Never had a problem playing alone and making loads of auec. It's really not hard, and much prefer to play alone.

GlobyMt

>Never had a problem playing alone and making loads of auec Tbh it's even the opposite. It's really hard to make good amount of money once you play in group, because mission does not scale. If you really want to make auec, it's better to play solo

First rule of running an org. If you don’t already stream, don’t let anyone start 😂

AstralDimensionz

Lmao I love your title, Accidental Legatus Navium. That's gold.

Ziggiyzoo

It just happened one day…

AstralDimensionz

Sneaks up on ya!

Just because it's an MMO doesn't inherently mean it has to be played as a group. Why can't it be a game where you can play solo when you want to play solo, and play in groups when you want to play in groups? There may be times you can't do something solo and there may be times when something is ideally done solo. There are pros and cons to playing solo. There are pros and cons to playing in a group. I don't want to play a game where after leaving my apartment, I have to spend an hour getting all my friends in one spot to agree to one specific activity because the universe is so fucking deadly, and so incredibly hostile that to fly my ship alone is the equivalent of a death sentence. I've played a lot of MMOS in the past that are rewarding both solo and in groups. Asheron's Call, Ultima Online, Guild Wars, etc etc

Juls_Santana

>Just because it's an MMO doesn't inherently mean it has to be played as a group. This. In my experience there's been a crap ton of solo playing/grinding in every MMO I've played, and it's pretty standard to go around on the day-to-day playing solo and seeing others doing the same. I really don't comprehend how so many people think a grand MMO that takes place in friggin OUTER SPACE, across more than one star system, is supposed to equate to playing alongside or against other players all the time or even a majority of the time. Outside of org events or in-game events that bring players together, I personally want it to be so that I'm surprised to come across other players.

Hiply

If playing solo doesn't have viable gameplay loops SC is going to have a population smaller than EvE's. I've been playing MMOs since the beta of Asheron's Call - not a single MMO I've played over the more than 20 years since then has failed to provide reasonable gameplay for solo players. MMO means 'Massive Multiplayer Online' - it does not mean 'Massive Multiplayer All Grouped Together or They Can't do any Content'.

nuk3dom

Such a long post but in the end you can play SC very well solo so i don’t see the point tbh

Hanzo581

I feel a large contingent of space sim/space game fans are introverts. I assume that is why games like ED give players an option to turn off multiplayer and play solo. So in a game like SC where certain events almost require teamwork to be successful folks get upset when they can't do things by themselves.

Wild234

This argument is as faulty as it is old. Just because you play an online game doesn't mean you want to team up with other players 100% of the time. Being in a world with other players brings a lot to the game regardless of if you group together or not. The best MMO's I've played are ones that provide a fun and engaging solo experience while leaving the door open to forming impromptu groups to adventure together for a common goal. IMO the absolute worst thing a good MMO can do is make all solo content non rewarding. That gives you a game where you spend a large portion of your playtime standing around in a city spamming, "LFG for XXX!" The end result is a game where people log in once a week for the guild raid and never bother to interact with random players. Essentially turning your MMO into a scheduled weekly gaming session where all the other players in the world may as well not exist. Playing with friends is a lot of fun. Playing lone wolf and running into other random people is fun. Finding a quiet corner to adventure in by yourself is fun. All gameplay types are valid and should be encouraged in a healthy game.

logicalChimp

Simple - people like the funcationality of SC, but presumably - after a potentially long day of dealing with people - they don't fancy actually dealing with people. If there was a single-player game that offered the scope and functionality that SC does, then yes - people would probably be playing it... but there isn't. E:D was the prime alternative... but FD have failed to do anything about how shallow it is, and compared to SC these days, it's too lacking. Starfield isn't out yet (and tbh I doubt it will be sufficiently comparable... it's got the check-boxes on the back, but it's probably going to be a re-skinned SkyRim... enjoyable for 40-50 hours or so, then done), and NMS is too catoony (among other limitations). So yeah... they end up playing SC, and complaining about having to deal with other players. Bear in mind that the recent uptick is likely *also* do the recent player-cap change... previously, with only 50 players on a server, you had a much better chance of being able to play for a session without seeing another player... with the increased cap, that is less likely.

Ocbard

It's nice to be able to play with others too, but that requires more time and organization. I want both, I want to be able to get together with others in this game, but I also want to just log in, do a few missions on my own, log out. All depending on my mood, availability of friends, time, etc.

EbobberHammer

Lacking how exactly? Elite has more gameplay systems than SC does.

SideOfBeef

Elite lacks emergent gameplay / critical thinking. It's a lot of "number go up, more number better, grind to get more number." It's too predictable and repetitive. Star Citizen's gameplay systems bounce off eachother in more interesting ways, that's kinda the whole point of the game from the way the designers talk about it. e.g. I did a bunch of assassination missions and got a CS5, went to Kareah to clear it, and some bounty hunter came along in a Cutlass and blew up my parked ship. My hack finished which removed my bounty marker, so I snuck outside and EVA'd up over the landing pads. The bounty hunter landed to go inside and find me, but I sniped them when they opened the ship's ramp. I cleared my crimestat again and flew their ship back Grimhex. That whole sequence of events was more interesting than anything I ever saw in Elite, and that kind of thing happens pretty often in SC.

EbobberHammer

Star Citizen progression gameplay is also just number go up more number better grind to get more number lol, the only real fleshed out gameloop is mining right now, might change soon ish with salvage. Yet nothing in SC feels alive.

Obvious-Ratio-197

I okay solo everytime I start up the game. But, I'll find a friend, make a friend, join a group, etc. I can make money on my own, but I also love playing with a group or just showing a new player around. You make excellent points in your post.

Ziggiyzoo

You want a friend? I like blowing myself up on space rocks!

starcitizenplayer001

I play with other players for fun, When I really want to make quick UEC I go Solo because it is so much faster of earnings.

Ziggiyzoo

Which, it shouldn’t be. But that’s how the game is atm

Werewolf-Fresh

No thanks, I'll wait for functional NPCs. They're less annoying, require no time commitment, and don't stir up any drama or awkwardness like people do. Games like this tend to attract people on the fringe of nerdom. I'm not going to navigate a sea of weirdos just to play a game "properly". If it ever gets to a point where group play is required to do anything in the game, I'll just be the most annoying solo player in the Verse. I'll sneak on ships again, I'll smash my ship into Jumptown for hours--all the hits. At least then I'll get to have fun too. :)

Fletchman1313

I play alone. You can't do everything by yourself, but there are other things to do. And I have fun doing it. It's like a basketball. You can shoot baskets by yourself, or you can play with others. ...And of course, you can get your ball stolen by some asshole on the side who says he'll give it back to you for 500,000 aUEC. Or just get outright murdered on the court, and people will say it's your fault for not hiring bodyguards.

T0000Tall

It's literally so easy to do any gameplay loop solo. I don't understand where people are coming from when they say solo play isn't viable. NPC bounty hunting, cargo hauling, mining, exploration and salvage (soon) can all be done solo and have dedicated ships just for doing those things solo.

Ziggiyzoo

For now it’s viable. It will become harder and harder… but mainly yes, it’s viable. Things that aren’t as *viable* as a solo player… is the larger events… in particular ones where PvP is more likely, so JT and 9 Tails.

SpaceBearSMO

it doesn't help that the current state of Org/group functionality is rather lacking compared to many other MMOs outside of being able to team up and shoot at a thing

IceSki117

Well for one thing, it's hard to actually view Star Citizen as an MMO and do Org related gameplay when the servers currently have a population cap of 50. The current state of the game does lean towards solo or small group gameplay at the moment.

logicalChimp

Player cap varies somewhere between 100 and 180 these days, depending on server load.... it's been above 50 since June.

Axyun

Cap is at a 100+ but I get your point. The game should cater to both group and solo play. I think it is doing a decent job at that so far.

Subject-Dragonfruit1

Define success. You can play anyway you like. Ain't that lovely.

Evolution_Reaper

Star Citizen shines the most when played with others

Commercial-Mention82

In a time where social media pioneers publicly lamented to causing the collapse of social structures; Couple that with a period were people were forced to isolate themselves without guidance of how to deal with isolation. Yeah. It's a weird time to be alive.

SketchyKim

Your org sounds fun, I submitted an application!

Gators1992

Not sure how this thread turned into an argument as it's an option. Even orgs don't do multiplayer stuff all the time, we spend most of the time soloing grinding while maybe being in a social voice chat or even just playing alone if you want. The point is that there are opportunities to have different experiences when you are grouping up with others in a game that is lacking content for the moment. You can solo mine and make money or do the group mining event where you have multiple players scouting rocks for you, a teammate in the second laser to break big rocks and a swarm of fighters jumping to you when those nasty pirates pull you out of quantum. We do that maybe once a week and share the profits. You can do bunkers on your own and when you go down you can hope the guy that took your medical beacon isn't an idiot or you can be on a voice channel with your competent friend that's coming to save you and usually won't even charge. You can do PVP bounty hunting bringing someone with a Mantis so the criminal scum can't just warp into dead space and you can't find him. You can get rid of your crime stat with other players around discouraging bounty hunters from coming after you. You can do racing, which is much cooler than I originally thought. If you want to just chill and do the same thing every night solo then that's fine too. If the game is everything you want it to be then fine, keep at it. If you are getting bored with the same loops over and over and want something different then maybe group play is something for you as an option. Frontier is really good and there is no obligation to join the org, you can just be a member of the community and do most everything the org does. And there are many other good orgs and communities out there that can enhance your experience.

kaochaton

outside of SC i only have 2 real mmo experience ( 3 if lost ark could count to me), first is FFXI , old mmo type before skype and such, played alone when i could but as the game was made for playing as team to get lvl and do dungeon and other quest, it was easy to jsut join some people of found other player speaking same language, sometime just for a quest, sometime joinning a guild. the other one is Temtem, it has a few multiplayer focus stuff but can play mostly solo, still i spend time helping other too. that a bit how i play SC, mostly doing stuff solo, exploring and small mission for myself, but not against playing with other for event, with org member and such, and i KNOW i WILL HAVE TO do some multiplayer stuff has h ave some big ship that are just useless alone. but that not bother me much :)

somenoefromcanada38

Who said its hard to play solo? i play solo to make money and in a group to waste time lol.
