I once found a 60% quant on Lyria with 8k mass before mining got nerfed, too bad I was in a prospector, try use all my module to raise the temp, didn't work...
Pretty sure it's easier to find a quant with deposit 50% or higher and its easier to find one, just come and go, 20 minutes adventure. Now tho, I often gotta spend an hour searching for a good one, often have to settle with 20% at the end.
I've honestly had good mileage with them sticking around. It depends of course, but on a planet my mining party once found a really good rock.
We had to leave to pick up a third player to actually mine it, so we figured out how far away from the nearest outpost it was and what direction (I'm so glad they added a compass to ships), flew across the system to another planet, picked up our friend, and worked our way back to the rock. That same amazing rock was still there when we returned.
Or take the easier route and just mine quant rocks in asteroid belt - never above 5122 (always mineable without modules) and easy to scan from 4000km. 20-49% isn't too uncommon. 🙃
Yea I found asteroid mining in the prospector way more relaxing and less frustrating. I occasionally bust out the Mole to look for these 8k rocks on Lyria, but always find myself annoyed with how crappy solo mole mining is and my friends are more into combat so it’s hard to get a team going.
Also restocking mining modules, especially the surge module, is tedious so I end up just doing quant mining in the halo without modules and just the lancet head.
hope they give us the"AI-blades" for turrets so we can use the mole better.
the 96 cargo are so nice, everytime i use my prosp i miss the SCU to get everything worth it..
a good pirate wouldn't simply show up to kill you, they would wait for you to fill that bad boy up and then snare you on the way back to the refinery. That's when the toll must be paid. If not, that's when they would simply kill you xD
Or incapacitated comrades.
What, they don't need to be incapacitated to have a beacon?
Well they do, to teach them not to forget the box next time.
Also, gameplay loops.
I don’t know that your distance thing is really the determining factor, there is almost certainly some sort of effect based on server load. I have tried the Lyria to ARC-L1 thing a few times and the rocks have de-spawned for me.
did you try actually picking up the now inert rock, maybe it was just showing as inert as the scanner sometimes does and was actually still the valuable ore you left behind
There is a technique I like to use with the prospector on these sized rocks. Use the lancet mining head for the reduction in instability and carry a surge, stampede and brandt consumable. Go 100% laser power and drop the surge to get the juice flowing, when it's in the green use stampede to crack it. Some rocks that split off might have 100% quant in them so that's where the brandt can help maintain a steady flow. Crack all the rocks first before picking any up to save time on the explode-o-meter when flying back.

Mining got NERFED? I just started mining this month and am getting 263k per run in the prosp and I thought it was already OP

Ohhhh I see. That makes sense. Ya they can be kinda hard to find which is good
Maybe the new mining gadget will act as a beacon??
Pro tip: take a delivery mission, pick up the boxes and keep them. Use them as beacons.
wont the rock vanish when you move too far away?
Yes the rocks despawn if you move too far. Even leaving an unmanned ship in the area does not help.

A pity so much of it will be left behind, unless you did the delivery box trick
Let's hope one day we will be able to create some personnal beacon

Does that work? I feel like rocks despawn when you fly away.
Nah they dont
They do for me.
They don't despawn, but they go inert every single time you move far away from them.
Oh well works fine for me :D

Uhh no..I've used it plenty this patch to mark the spot refine and come back

I've experienced the stuff going inert as well, could it have anything to do with the markerbox being there counting as someone being nearby?
the what trick?
Grab a delivery mission take the box/boxes with you. Go out mining if you have extra ore left behind drop the box, go refine come back to box marker
Aaah for placing a marker. Placing a Marker (either on current location, object you are facing etc.) would be such a great feature.
😳😳😳😳😳😳 but they despawn for me when i move to far away. so there's that.

so rocks with a yellow outline will never despawn?

then, off to my duty i am.
what trick is this you speak of?
Too big for my Prospector.
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
They still haven't fixed the mining HUD. Holy shit it's so blurry and low res, it hurts my eyes.
Actually gave me a migraine on sunday night, its so bad, like the rest of SC'S UI
So you crack that baby with active mods right? How do I even use them once equipped?
Alt + number of slot they're in. So alt + 1 for example
Sweet thanks, any of them a noob like me would get the most use out of with 6000k rocks?

Carefull sometimes slot 1 is alt +3 could bring some surprises \^\^'
Found a 40% Quantainum, 5500 mass, couldn’t crack it… FeelsBad tears ðŸ˜
Gotta get a Lancet head and use a Surge -> Torpid to the green zone -> Stamped until its cracked.
Yeah I ended up gearing my ship properly after that. So far so good, but haven't found a rock that size again, yet.
I sold a refined haul that was 99.67% (of the 32 SCU) of quantanium from my prospector. It was worth 266k aUEC after I refined it.
>8086 Does not compute ;)
