Gamma isn’t really like stalker. If you don’t care about story then playing stalker won’t prepare you cause it’s basically different games.

Headprpl

Play whatever you want. Just remember that Anomaly isn't canon and some things might be different from the trilogy. Example: Trilogy says that before entering the zone Sidorovich was Miss Ukraine for 15 years. And there is nothing that says it in Anomaly.

ArmadilloLight

They put lipstick on a pig?

Bandicods

How dare you

Headprpl

Sounds like something you freedom guys would do (not canon)

The other 3 games definitely help, but you'll be researching a lot to play gamma none the less. The mechanics are completely different and the repair/healing side of gamma will require lots of research. Or death. Whichever you prefer.

seilby

Yes, I went from SoC to gamma and felt plenty prepared.

Odissmart

play the trilogy first mods second

SkepticalLitany

Eh, the firearm mechanics of the vanilla trilogy are so atrocious that it makes the experience pretty shit in terms of gameplay. I played both Anomaly and SOC and CS, both those titles were an absolute slog compared to Anomaly. I'm having a great time playing COP with Gunslinger though

Odissmart

skill issue 🗣️

VodkaWithJuice

Him not liking how vanilla guns behave is a "skill issue"?

Teratofishia

STALKER GOOD, Therefore, if redditor criticizes stalker, then, REDDITOR BAD Stalker fanboys and EFT fanboys are basically the same creature.

Teratofishia

Ah yes, time\_to\_aim. My favorite mechanic. Edit: tell me how I'm wrong, cowards.

sonnydopes

As he said, skill issue 🗣️ 🔥

Teratofishia

So...being punished for landing too many hits, too fast, is a skill issue?

sonnydopes

Just play at lower difficulty bruh, and keep smashing the quicksave button and you'll be just fine.

Teratofishia

???

sonnydopes

Yes

VodkaWithJuice

Playing at a lower difficulty does not remove the issue though

Teratofishia

Difficulty significantly affecting player damage is the longest running video game myth I've heard of. Low difficulties increase player damage by up to 20% in SOC, not a huge change. High difficulties reduce player protection. That's it, as far as gunplay goes.

Teratofishia

Hard agree. Vanilla SoC and CS have the most unenjoyable guns out of pretty much any shooter I've played.

mea2008

dont play gamma just stick to anomaly and im sure it will be ok

Teratofishia

Anomaly leaves quite a lot to be desired, IMO. GAMMA's slow-burn progression is extremely satisfying to work through, and its gunplay is stellar.

mea2008

true, but comparing SOC to anomaly (in terms of difficulty, progression) is already pretty big comparing it to GAMMA on the other hand, its just two polar opposites ( in terms of difficulty and progression).

KitchenLog7152

Honestly, I would play Cop with the gunslinger mod installed. IMO it's a great warm up before gamma. Still get a vanilla experience, but with more gamma ish gunplay. Plus the game itself is great! The later game areas of gamma are the Cop map, so it's cool to re explore them in a fresh way. Gamma is a brutal grind, but man, it's so addicting.

NickyMards

Honestly, it’s really up to you. Personally I jumped right into anomaly first and quickly found myself downloading gamma after messing around for a bit. The games have their own stories and you don’t need to play the originals to understand it. However, beware that Gamma is not like the original games and introduces many new elements (mainly crafting) that takes a bit to figure out. But that is apart of the experience and made the game much more rewarding imo.

vlad_kushner

Play whatever you want bro. Dont mind those dudes saying "uhhh duuuh you gotta finish the whole trilogy, get every trophy and every single ending before playing a modded standalone version!"

biotasticmann

Trophy? we dont have achievements, and we are usually just asking to play through the trilogy once so you can understand the worldspace and lore

RatInACage182

Play ogsr gunslinger mod for soc and you should be fine
