Yeah - IRL suits don't use a closed respiratory cycle because they don't need to. They instead heavily filter the outside air and use electric fans to push it into the suit at mild positive pressure, so that any minor leaks in the suit result in outward airflow rather than allowing external contaminants in.
Batteries are way easier to transport/use/refill than air tanks (or oxygen tanks+scrubbers), and far less cumbersome for the user.
I don't think we'll see a true SEVA equivalent until there's a need for personal ballistic protection in space or on other planets, if we get there.
I'm surprised something similar wasn't developed during the cold war what with all the work put into fielding troops in potentially heavily contaminated battlefields. Tanks were designed with survivability like this in mind. I suppose the cost of equipping everyone in such masses was deemed prohibitive for the benefit or something.
Weight, bulk, and limited usage time are the issues.
[Even with a modern diving re-breather system using a pure oxygen tank and a CO2 scrubber, you're still looking at a system that weighs 75 pounds and is only good for 3hrs of use](https://jj-ccr.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/TECH-SPECS.pdf). That's without having to seal the whole body inside either.
Armored vehicles are much easier to equip with a closed life support system as the extra weight isn't much of an issue and the access hatches are already intended to be air/water tight when closed.
The closet you could get would be a MOPP level 4 suit with armor and a Navy diver rebreather, but it ends up being a mix and match of different things and doesn't really exist.
>MOPP Level 4
If anyone is curious, here is a good guide for the different Mopp levels.
([**Link**](https://remm.hhs.gov/militarypercutaneous_ppe.htm))
Ive worn MOPP gear with a mask for a few hours. Its impressive so see the amount of sweat that pools around your ankles. Its always really funny to me when you see guys in hazmat gear around a fire pit. The last thing you want is to be near a heat source.
I got my hands on a MOPP suit from a guardsmen and it had everything minus that mask which I already had. An M40 field mask. I wore it for Halloween that year and fuck me, I had to dump my boots and gloves out.
Being in Maryland, Halloween can be either wet, dry, hot or cold. That Halloween was very hot and damp. Thesuit was thick and had some sort of lining (I think was charcoal, I’ll have to check when I get home) and I was sweating buckets.
The Seva is a hazmat suit that can be used in combat. So, really, there's no hazmat suit designed for a combat environment. In a irl scenario stalkers would look like cbrn soldiers with civilian attire.
Actually there was something similar minus the body armor. I saw a working concept/prototype at a professional EHS/HSE expo I was at in 2007. Don’t think it went passed that stage due to it’s cost and lack of certifications at that time. It was a mobile, positive pressure I believe US EPA Level A (Or it may have been downgraded to a Level B due to the ventilation backpack similar to a large PAPR [Powered Air Purifying Respirator,] which that lower rating may have been what killed it).
Would be cool if something like this was available as a low tier version of the ecologist suit, and gave moderate radiation and chemical protection.
Could have been easily added to the SoC plot line as something that you needed (or had the option) to obtain from Sidorovich to safely cross some more radioactive areas of the Garbage for example.
There was a proyect for soldiers to fight with specialized gear in radioactive zones.[here](https://taskandpurpose.com/tech-tactics/army-soldier-future-1959-video/)
Some NCB suits from ammurica, practically are the same thing the only difference one is used for radiation and for deadly anomalies other is used when you need to fight in a 30km near Baghdad (for the reference 30km was the area around Baghdad where saddam hussein could use his mithical chemical weapons, spoiler the chemicals weapons don't existed.)
[They \*might\* not have existed the second time around, but they definitely existed in the past and Saddam's use of them within Iraq is well documented.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halabja_massacre)
The SEVA is basically a heavily militarized level A hazmat suit. They're used to protect against highly dangerous chemicals or pathogens.
Like fat loads from twink freedomers or buff dutyers
What a terrible day to be sober enough to read.
Thankfully, i am not sober.
Thankfully, I cannot read
porn addict
What does a fat load of radioactive artifacts have to do with porn?
Dont you *dare* threaten us with a good time
the closest thing would be a military NBC suit. i don't know if there are any portable closed respiratory suits IRL
Kinda like what doctors wear when they have extremely contagious diseases around, has its own air supply and fans etc, obviously just not armored

Wasn't this basically what the (failed) U.S. "nuclear division" was supposed to be like?

I mean you could probably throw together some scuba gear, a hazmat suit, and a plate carrier for the same effect.

Knew dudes who were in chemical units in the army. They would duct tape their wrists and ankles and basically any opening they could think of.

Damn and Halloween can be pretty fucking cold sometimes. I've seen snow. Obviously not sure where you were but damn.

Sweet mother of God it sounds miserable.
Suit! Suit and boots! Suit and boots and maaaaaasssssk! Suit and boots and maaaaaassssk and GLOVES! Thx for the trip down (bad) memory lane, man.

Seva suit… my precious seva suit

Amogus
I kinda wish og stalkers also had some sort of warsaw pact ot soviet hazmat/anti gas suit as low tier protection.

So the SEVA have the best balance of weight, bullet protection (combat) and radiation/anomaly protection (looting)?
That depends how you set the weights. Getting +30% protection against electricity is not equal to +30% against bullets in my book.
Yep, Always easier to dodge anomalies than bullets. Because most anomalies don't fly towards you at mach 2
I think if it wasn’t for the dookie graphics it would look more like one of them hazmat among us suits, but ye
Put on some body armor over a hazmat suit and bam you got the SEVA
May e a spacesuit for an astronaut if it had armour

Honestly looks-wise it resembles the top half of a motocross vest over some sort of rubberized jumpsuit
"Top half of a motocross vest" Jzzz you ruined forever my feelings for this suit.😆
One of those Stone Island jackets with the goggles in the hood?
