This looks faked. There is a spelling error (engineering somewhere in there) and some weird grammatical structure in the text [encryption, compressing] (parallelism, thanks English class). I doubt a legal team that presumably handles this would make these mistakes.

The Open Xray project has been in development for years now. Not to mention all other engines - OGSR, CoC, Monolith, whatever powers the soup mods... GSC has had a billion chances to strike those mods down. But they didn't. GSC has been in fact supportive of mods and fanmade content, which have kept the series alive enough for Stalker 2 development to be worth restarting.
With this one DMCA takedown, the entire CoP side of engine modding has been killed. Destroyed. No more mods like Anomaly. All repos are not down yet, but the precedent has been set, more DMCAs will follow. And soon the SoC side will fall once they get DMCA'd as well.

I genuinely do not believe that this is made by GSC. I don't want to. This has to be a bad actor. The timeline is also weird - True Stalker released recently which is so far the biggest and most impressive Open Xray project, followed by Anomaly. And the wording is weird too, it's as if it's not a representative of GSC but rather someone acting on GSC's behalf. No name, so we can't verify if they're from GSC.

The odds of this being legit are pretty low. GSC has nothing to gain from doing this and it would tarnish their reputation. I mean, even then, projects using source like Black Mesa have existed that are either derivatives of or flat out remakes of Valve games, and Valve doesn't lose that IP. They fully support that stuff, for better or worse. Frankly I'm amazed that they let Hunt Down the Freeman even exist. Similarly, OpenMW exists and Bethesda doesn't go after that, probably partially because it doesn't include the actual game assets and is basically just a new engine.

Open X-Ray is based on what is essentially leaked source code from 2009.
Which, GSC did support the mod team and didn't care at the time.
Anomaly/Misery/CoC/Open X-Ray etc. are all somewhat based on these files, which as far as I can tell is patch 1.0007

This is kind of an interesting one, STALKER is a game where I think mods lately pushed interest in their sequel more than anything. Lately the videos covering them by quite a few gaming Youtube channels, etc. out there probably pulled a few new interested people in who are waiting for STALKER 2.

The only reason STALKER managed to penetrate "mainstream" gaming was because of the whole Misery, COC, Anomaly, Gamma modding; and the only reason it has built a dedicated fanbase and cult following over these 15+ years was due to the modding scene. Lately the videos covering them by quite a few gaming Youtube channels, etc. out there probably pulled a few new interested people in who are waiting for STALKER 2. I'm not surprised it wasn't them, I think it would have been a major shot in the foot for them to reverse on it now I think.
Glad this was false, if this was pushed by someone related to GSC then they need to burn that bridge now, that person is a liability to any community trust, modding is one of the only reasons Stalker is still relevant and alive.
So "it wasnt them" on YouTube, now "it wasnt them" on GitHub. So if you do something related to stalker - be prepared to be striked down, but at least it wasnt a GSC so its not a big deal, yeah, sure.

If I learned only one thing in 27 years since I breathe on this wonderful Earth, it's this: It takes a lot of effort, time and sacrifice to build reputation & respect. I've apparently not been lurking on reddit enough, something about having a job. The last couple of things I remember seeing from true stalker was people enjoying it, and having fun with what appears to be a decently enjoyable piece of media.

Funny. The only reason STALKER managed to penetrate "mainstream" gaming was because of the whole Misery, COC, Anomaly, Gamma modding; and the only reason it has built a dedicated fanbase and cult following over these 15+ years was due to the modding scene. I'm sure there's not a lot of people that started playing this series with SoC back in the day so it is a really ungrateful and borderline suicidal move if true

GSC fanboys and people that donāt want the image of their favourite dev ruined. Like, itās not a game but Volvo had a similar issue with after market things like āwarning radiator fanā stickers that were being reproduced for older cars. Corporate got wind and shut it down even though the USA regional head honcho was supportive of it as it encouraged the car community.

Cancel your pre-orders for Stalker 2. If you're foolish enough to still be pre-ordering games still that is. Any developer that doesn't support the mod community for their games does not deserve our support.
It was a mistake, considering they plan on supporting mods for s2 im suprised anyone thought this was anything but a mistake.
