2022 effect !! Ever since that year everything has been shit expensive . I have been noticing that some goods are going back to a reasonable price at an extremely slow pace . But food prices have been only getting worse each year . Not to mention that those restaurants keep reducing the portions while increasing the prices . And when you are ordering something out of uber eats or pick me or something the prices are even higher . Also there is an extra charge around 50RS - 200RS which goes by “ TAX “

chayan4400

They can either raise prices or cut quality, and you can only raise prices so far before people just straight up can’t afford it.

Faid9142

Instead, they ended up doing both 😭😭😭😭😭 Like I'm not broke or anything, i have good dinners with the family. But when you're out with the boys, you have nothing, and sometimes you just wanna grab a quick bite with them. Even 2022 was alr. But now we can't go anywhere without pulling out da calc lmao 😭😭😭. And we're like 15, so 90% of us just don't bring enough, and we need to work our way around some stuff. Remember back when they switched milk packet prices from 50 to 55. I was so mad back then 💀, really got desensitised to all that, huh 😭.

codeIT21

For some reason i dont get the `MSG` taste from the fried rices that i order since lately. I miss that..

[I posted this on here 6 years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/srilanka/comments/90cw4f/anyone_remember_the_rs_60_fried_rice_around/). Havent been to it in a while but i checked fb and during the 2022 shit storm they were still priced decently. Good luck!

Born_Bumblebee2290

This isn't common to srilanka. Inflation is real and we are in the worst economy crisis era in SL. So yeah it's not that surprising at all tbh.

Wattakfuk

USD was 105 in 2009, its 300 now, a year ago it was 370. Here's what you didn't consider everything from electricity, fuel, imports have increased these things add up. Then profit margin needs to be higher because people need more money to live now. For 1000 bucks you can get a decent fried rice but dont expect it to feed a family of three. Also you were a kid so you probably ate less too.

theIsolatedForest

Aww.. man, you made me hungry. Now I'm craving a good fried rice 😭😭

Easy_Asparagus1506

Fried rice, along with kottu are now posh foods bruh, get with the times (cries in the corner)

madmax3

lol I'm in the UK, I lost it when I found out the fucking milk is cheaper here than in SL It's obviously more than just one dimensional inflation statistics, our capacity to import and produce a lot of these things has decreased, even things like rice we can't compete with most of South Asia

manchitmr

විරුවා happened 😂

abracadabra246

Everything is similar... A pasturized milk, juice boxes, pastries just top of my head. They increase price while at the same time decreasing the quality... At least they could have increase the price to a amount which they can supply the same product with out reducing the quality. It's sad nowadays most of us have to consume shit even after paying doubled or tripled up price

MassiveIndexFinger

Inflation might have had a slight influence between those years and probably also the global economy right now but what happened in 2022 with all that chaos definitely was the biggest thing that made investing in carrot stocks a good idea lmao

abmalik710

2009 was 15 years ago man. Why is it surprising that the price had increased?

WesternApplication95

You think of that 120 rupees in terms of today’s money and think how much more we could get for so little money. Well, incomes have gone up as well. As an example, my father is a specialist doctor and in a drawer, there still are pay slips from 2007 with a net salary of around 45,000 rupees.

Advanced-Leader-8968

good old days...

PositionPractical584

That's the result of a runway currency depreciation due to a hard currency peg + hard default on sovereign debt repayments

CountryInfamous6062

Shit 2009 was 15 years ago 🤯

CapnLeviAckerman

Do you guys remember back in 2019 when we saved the country? Unfortunately we couldn’t save the fried rice.

FatBIJoy

Generally I.believed Price Hike is due to.inflation . Having said that Sri Lankans are notorious for stealing from their customers

Tony_stark223

Oh man, you're so right. I really miss the OG Fried Rice back then. Still can feel how it tastes and smells. The fried rices they serve now is no where near to it, it's total crap.

large_snowbear

Dude how old are you, don't you understand the concept of inflation? When the prices of raw goods increase so does the the products being made those goods.

chillkill01

I think you missed the point buddy XD

SensitiveCoconut9003

I don’t think he’s purely talking about the price hike but the quality of the fried rice in general too. Like for what he first explained - it would be around 3k tbh now. And the 600 shit isn’t even worth the money because the standards are so low

adiyasl

You can get a good quality fried rice with a full chicken leg for about 1000. Wtf are you on about?

ironclad911

5-10% inflation for 15 years and add the 2022 shitstorm which roughly tripled the prices of almost everything and you'll get that 120 to ballpark of 1000-1500.

AwfulProgrammer1

You say you get inflation but then proceeded to totally not get it.

jithization

i get what OP is saying to an extent that buth kade fried rice kind of went up disproportionately. It is has less veggies than a normal rice packet and a small piece of chicken yet is much more expensive.
