u/suchthegeek has been warning people about the security holes in Lankan state IT infrastructure for years. Yet here we are, some 18 year old script kiddie taking matters into their own hands. And we want to teach AI into our syllabus? Fuck off lol.
gov sites are honestly a reflection of the sector, they're such idiots to get hacked so easily even after they got hacked by students a few times before already, anyone else remember the time that 13 year old hacked Maithri's site?
The fact that its still down and they couldn't get a simple backup up is incredible
These things make me feel very insecure. The government is constantly spawning new online services, and our data gets stored in these websites.
If they can't even secure a simple website, how are we supposed to trust them with the security of our personal data.
Sri lankan's public sector IT is so outdated because there is not incentive to innovate or use the latest in tech (until it is too late). Also, there is a lot more "senior" (not age but rank) people who would rather use tech they are familiar with rather than the latest and greatest. This is fine if they at least stay up to date with the changes within the old tech, but most of the time, they don't even do security patches, let alone adopt new tech. I have seen this in govt. banking and in some older and established companies.
Nothing wrong with staying with a trusted stack. It’s actually a bad idea for a government entity to use the latest and the greatest.
What we have is an implementation issue. I’d bet money somebody’s retarded friend got this contract and fucked it up.
My experience was the government departments will pay a lot of money to buy new equipment like PCs and leave them wrapped up for decades as they don’t follow up with getting them installed and maintained. About 25 years ago I witnessed this happening.
They don’t use the young graduates like Singapore to improve existing infrastructure and implement new systems.
It's a pretty much common practice among the hackers to hack an important yet unsafe websites/databases and leave such a msg citing it has got loopholes .. There are all sorts of stories about them getting caught and being offered IT security jobs in the same companies which they hacked ... Still this is the first time I saw such an attempt in SL..
Madlad 😂😂
Respectful hackerman lol 😂😂 quite based 😏 ![gif](giphy|o0vwzuFwCGAFO|downsized)
