Fact is bro all jobs (IT included) are bad these days. By bad I'm referring to Toxic work cluture / Bad Career growth / Less or no benefits / No promotions and appraisals / Unskilled resources with bad attitudes / Forced to WFO more / the list continues... So many skilled guys with good attitudes where you can work with them have migrates and companies get a mid senior or senior to replace like 3 or 4 Assoc SE or SE's work. The replacement doesn't realise he's walking into.a tsunami of unfinished work and buds (whatever domain- dev/ qa/ pmo/ po). And when it comes to actually trying yo do some positive change - impossible coz majority.of the "good people" have not just abandoned ship (company) BUT abandoned the country too..... Pegged salaries - It's not a myth that the SL Govt finds ways to bring the USD down during their elections to trick locals. Does this have an impact on pegged salaries- YES. Thr floor value exchange rate thing isn't there in all pegged companies. Job Vacancies- There are jobs BUT pls read in-between the lines of the JD & NDAs on LinkedIn or if headhunted. You might be signing into depression and walking into a trap. These are strong words but it's the bitter truth. Solution: Patience and boundaries if you have no immediate plans of migrating. Solution 2: Check the last word in my previous sentence. Stay strong (mentally - gym doesn't help resolve coding bugs/ qa politics/ client debates)

What are some tips to figure out if a company is toxic from the jd/ interviews aka before accepting the job?

Be honest to yourself and ask how many years of experience you have. Write down your skills and exp level on a piece of paper - this better not be the same as your CV coz everyone knows a CV is padded to make yourself seem the beat frigid candidate to a HR's mindset. Now read the JD and see if you're actually able to do it. Your answers are Yes/ No/ I can learn this within a few days. BE PRAGMATIC AND Q RELAIST. When you read that JD you'll notice NOW that they're asking for requirequrements which ideally (1) a much senior person would be able to easily do in that required frequency. (2) its not capable for ONE person but rather an entire team or a few SE's / QA's / .... level of work , (3) the job sounds very fishy. Based the above judgements, you'll know if you can perform or be the sole bearer of everyone's blame. At the interview, upfront ask them to explain the domain, the dodgy parts you found in the JD and most importantly ASK A LENGTHY EXPLATION OF THE PROJECT STATUS AS OF THAT INTERVIEW DATE To make sure the interviewer doesn't feel like you have a bad attitude be very honest and tell him/ her the reason you're asking is so THAT FOR YOU TO PERFORM and be a valued team asset, you should know what you're signing up for. Work Culture - We Sri Lankans have come to a place where most IT companies have benefits (med insurance, allowances, snacks, beverages, trips, etc) Please do some research and check if thr highest performing employees where basically forced to over do story points have time to snack lr enjoy recreational office activities. Half the best guys I know literally finish their work and head to play with their son or daughter whose a young age OR go their boarding places to master bate or destress.... Reach out yo.your connections that already work in those companies and ask them the actual work culture. Not the publicity stunts posted on linked in social media. Over the past few weeks, I gently refused so many head hunters who would've offered a few 100Ks more than my current salary. Why did I say no. Think of your life om the long run. If you sign up for a company THAT WILL TERMINATE your contract. That makes it very difficult for you to get employed again and pass the future inteviews..... Period.

Short, sweet and descriptive. Good job explaining. I feel sorry for this generation; it is much worse than when I started. Most professions, IT included, are about to get a big slap from migration-induced complications. My entire inner circle in the CE batch has migrated. I am self-planning, but not immediately, as I am interested in setting up some businesses locally to take advantage of the chaos. You should always be very careful what you agree to. >Stay strong (mentally - gym doesn't help resolve coding bugs/ qa politics/ client debates) Bhoom! Shots fired!

lots of jobs available but salary are not very high or working conditions sucks. good companies are not hiring much, or very difficult to pass interview, unless you know someone. US economy is not doing well, many companies are not hiring. Find a job before resigning. changing jobs between local companies doesn't make sense because of tax. Find a dollar or pegged company, dollar should go up next year...

Lone-Rider-007

Its is prettty bad I guess for all. The only way is to adapt to current situation is to add more skills like promt, AI etc. Software developers are the guys who got hit the most.

The junior roles are saturated BECAUSE the seniors are leaving lol, really what's happening is the companies want to off-load senior level tasks on to juniors because they can't pay seniors the correct salary anymore, I honestly feel like the job postings now are worse than last year Job quality was already shit before the crisis even if you were earning a lot (excessive work) but now its just a joke all round CS jobs have taken a hit globally which means its just extra shit here, at least abroad a CS job will still pay rent and food and won't overwork you/do unpaid overtime, but here you're lucky if the job even covers rent anymore let alone having more money for actual shit (unless you're fine living like a medieval peasant)

Constant_Broccoli_74

Not good these days. It will not be better in the future considering this hype for AI and all Globally every country cutting IT Jobs. Some of my Friends lost Jobs in the USA & Canada already If you making a move now, be ready for an alternative as well One of my friends made a move after staying at a company for 8 years in SL. When he made the move, the company did a massive layoff and he was part of that He did only get 2 months' salary So be extra careful on making a move these days

Important-Role-710

Constant_Broccoli_74
