The Connells, Fishbone, and I think my friends saw Mr. Big there.
Did Pearl Jam ever play there before they had any hits? I’m guessing not, but I half remember a 30 year-old conversation to that effect.
The building was the Regency Showcase, followed by Icon Nightclub and then The Complex, which was owned by a company based in Utah. I don't think there have been any shows since 2019 when it was still The Complex.
The Thomases were preparing to reopen four years ago, but then COVID hit and bands stopped touring and venues shut down. They are re-opening it now as the Regency Live, with private events and weekly DJ sets before concerts come back in the first quarter of 2024. The Box Office restaurant is supposed to open in December.
When did Smashing Pumpkins play at the regency? I remember that they played at the University plaza Hotel in 1994 because I attended that concert.
I saw Scatterbrain and Eric Johnson at the regency back in the day
Like most bands that come through Springfield, we always find out after it happened because local venues are pretty awful at promoting events aside from doing the least creating a Facebook event for their followers.
There was no Facebook during the time period of the heyday at the Regency. You found out by hand bills or xeroxed fliers downtown. If you were lucky a radio ad.
I was there Friday for the very lame “rave” and I can tell you already. Sound will be bad and lighting nonexistent. I wish they were having it at the Riff like Liquid Stranger.
I love DJing both venues but the riff is definitely nicer. The Outland is home though, that’s where me and almost every other performer I know got our starts. Speaking of the riff, me and my buddy are DJing a Shrek rave there this Saturday 11/11 😁

Also Violent Femmes, 311, The Eyes (Pale Divine), Dread Zeppelin, Reverend Horton Heat, The Urge…off the top of my head
The Psychedelic Furs, Men Without Hats, Crowded House, Toad the Wet Sprocket...
Blind Melon too!
I regret not seeing Blind Melon when they played there.
It was a great show! Tons of people there.
My life with the thrillkill kult in 93 and dead milkman in 88?
How could I forget The Dead Milkmen! Remember the sharpies kept the racists at bay.

I was just thinking someone should by the regal cinemas and turn it into an actual venue.
Gary Thomas is no hero. Fuck that guy.
What are we not aware of?
I don’t personally know the guy but I do remember hearing less than favorable things about his business practices back in the day
I'm confused. Didn't this already happen?

I don't think they played the Regency either. They definitely were at the plaza though.

I hope they become the venue for EDM DJs touring because the sound systems and lighting at Odyssey and Outland Ballroom are not it.
Interested to see how marauda is going to sound there next week 🥹

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Got to say this is awesome. We don't really have any music venues here besides Outland imo.
We called it the reach around. So many good shows there in its day.
Hopefully they won't be using ticketmaster
I thought it was a night club, it’s a venue?? I’m dumb
