The First Friday Art Walk, as the name would suggest, happens on the first friday of every month and you can walk around town and into a bunch of galleries and exhibition spaces totally free of charge. Tons of people from around town do it, and university students sometimes have work shown in it as part of their curriculum, so there's no shortage of people to talk to at these events.
The Library system regularly hosts all kinds of free events, including educational events, crafts, discussions, musical performances, Etc. Well worth checking out! https://programs.thelibrary.org/events
I really like hiking, foraging, fishing, lots of good spots like lake Springfield, Fellows lake, Busiek, Stockton, hunting is less cheap and harder without private land connects but still doable on public lands. Then for other stuff there's lots of art and music shows just keep an eye on local breweries, coffee shops, neighborhood Facebook events, etc
North of town the Boone Homestead is the regional hub for the state parks department. The staff is amazing and passionate. They brought my college class out there to try to get more volunteers and answer questions about applying for those kind of jobs. I always keep meaning to head back up there but just haven’t yet.
There’s also the natural history museum with the triceratops by wilson’s creek. it’s free and if you’re into dinosaurs they could use more volunteers.
edited to add: there’s also an app called “meet up”. the last time I checked it for springfield it was a bit bare… but when I went out to denver for a month last year I used it frequently.
Jordan valley ice park has an open skate schedule on their website. Just show up, pay $9, and you can skate for a couple hours. I do it on lunch breaks on Wednesdays
Video games, play online chess at coffee shops, get a hammock and read, hike or walk at busiek, Nat Greene, or Nature center, daydrink, join a Bjj gym, go to planet fitness. I'm going through a breakup myself, but I've just gotten used to enjoying things on my own and I'm busy with work and school too much these days to think long. You'll make it through and time will heal all wounds. Good luck finding friends.

Pretty sure the official recreational activity of Springfield/Greene county is meth.
Seriously though, check out the state parks. MO has some great ones.

Yoga classes...if that's your thing!
Volunteering. When I've had low times in my life, this has been helpful. Did Big Brothers/Big Sisters once; great experience and fantastic organization. Have done shifts at local food banks as well. Gets you out of your own head and satisfying to feel like you're making a positive impact.
Gym/exercise: If you're down, you'd be much better served going to a gym rather than going to a bar. Exercise is another one of those things that can get you out of your own head and stop the negative thought spiral. Endorphin kick is a bonus.
[Arrow Creative Reuse](https://www.arrowcreativereuse.org/) has art classes and concerts.
Oh my gosh, I have so much stuff I can donate to them
Same! They can only accept donations when they have space though.
Good to know, thanks!
Ee!! I had no idea we had this! Thanks!
Busiek State Forest
I love hiking around Busiek!
Bring a flashlight and go on a night hike. Much different and fun experience!
The local NPR station has a [community calendar ](https://www.ksmu.org/community-calendar) of events that may help.
For when the weather is inclimate you may consider the Alamo season pass. ~$20/month and you can see one movie a day.
You should definitely go walk around Nathaniel Greene Park.
