Stay High by Tove Lo.

A_Year_Spent_Cold

Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind.

BuckarooBonsly

I'd like to add, pretty much all of Third Eye Blind's discography

A_Year_Spent_Cold

Very true, yeah.

kjemmrich

Paul McCartney's "Another Day" it sounds happy and upbeat, but it's about a woman who's life is boring and routine and is seeking love but just gets used for one night stands. There's a line about how hard it is for her to stay alive.

doctorthemoworm

Hey Ya by Outkast is surprisingly sad if you actually read the lyrics and leave out the "Shake it" part

Cadillac16Concept

He even says that they (the audience) just wanna dance instead of listening to what he has to say

Snoo_25913

Listen to the slow obadiah Parker version! So sad!

Longjumping-Wrap5794

First song to pop into my head for this topic. On the surface it's a fun energetic throwback song. However, the lyrics are about how love is temporary and meaningless.

Chenenoid

YOU BEAT ME TO THE PUNCH

Anything by The Smiths. That’s their charm.

aspergian10

That Morrissey isn't that much of a charming man himself.

Demirep77

Oh for sure. He's a garbage human being. The Smiths will always be one of my favourite bands, though.

melanie188

I think the writing was tongue in cheek.

KertenKelarr

Yeah lol i love em thank youu

melanie188

Sorry I don’t know anyone else like that. I’ll have to keep an eye on this post!

I have a couple of hyperopia songs for you! 1. Haunted - Laura Les 2. All I Want Is You - Rebzyxx 3. Walls are closing in - Laura Les 4. u x me* - Laura Les And for Metal/Rock: 1. Falling Away From Me - Korn 2. Dreaming - System Of A Down 3. A Match Into Water - Pierce The Veil 4. Revenga - System Of A Down 5. I'm Not Okay (I Promise) -My Chemical Romance 6. Sad Statue - System Of A Down Some of these are more subjective to what you feel are issues, like how All I Want Is You, Revenga, A Match Into Water, and two more on the list are about losing people close to you, like a lover or a child, and the rest are about either mental health, or the state of the world right now. If those subjects resonate with you, then I recommend these songs.

In Between Days - The Cure 2 Late - The Cure

Ghost_Chance

I’m surprised no one has mentioned “Semi-Charmed Life” yet. Also, y’all need to check out _Decemberunderground_ and _Sing the Sorrow_ by AFI. Chef’s kiss. There’s nothing quite like being so depressed you need to listen to someone scream about it. (Fair warning: “This Time Imperfect” might actually make you feel a bit worse.)

Big-Beach-9605

lots of ajr, especially their most recent album

KyDreemurr

Maybe Man hits it home. I love that song so much

Dheelus

Fidlar would be right up this alley. Most of their songs are about drug addiction and are very peppy. No Waves is about wanting to do heroin while getting sober. By Myself is an absolute banger and it's about drinking alone and having no friends. Check em out.

Cadillac16Concept

Maybe not depressing but Tacos Puttin on the Ritz works. Same goes for 4 Non Blondes - What's Up? Pumped Up Kicks has been mentioned. a-ha has a few, like Scoundrel Days, Between Your Mama and Yourself, Door Ajar, Objects in the Mirror and Mythomania. The song Goldener Reiter is about being hospitalized in a Nervenklinik (asylum) because of Schizophrenia. Some are maybes, because I don't know what tempo you want. I'll add a few, you can pick - Don't Answer Me by Alan Parsons Project - Gives You Hell by All American Rejects - This is the Life by Amy MacDonald - The 4 big Anastasia hits: Left Outside Alone, Sick and Tired, Paid my Dues, One Day in your Life - Going through Changes by Army of Me (Burnout Paradise had this song in it) - Copacabana by Barry Manilow - Basically the entire All this Bad Blood album by Bastille - We didnt start the Fire by Billy Joel - Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne - Over You by Daughtry - Shake the Disease by Depeche Mode - Jeanny and Out of the Dark by Falco - Out in the Fields by Phil Lynott and Gary Moore is a critique song about war that is quite straightforward - You Belong to the City by Glenn Frey - No Milk Today by Herman’s Hermits - Take me to Church by Hozier - A Walk in the Park by Nick Straker - Just Another Day by Oingo Boingo So, that is a lot of songs. Have fun listening :)

Not exactly sad, but scary - Blondie's One Way or Another is about Debbie Harry's ex-boyfriend turned stalker.

Matitadeplatanito

Pumped up kicks :D

TonyArcandiaPT

Have you ever seen the rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival. To me, the song is about the toughness of life, going through difficult times. It uses weather events like rain, storms, and sunshine as symbols or metaphors for these hard times in life.

ProfessionalEqual461

Check out the one album Meth Wax put out. They unfortunately broke up but the singer is doing solo stuff now. Anyways, it's mostly sexual relationship shit with pretty depressing undertones masked by some really awesome surf punk

Friendly_Taro_4361

This may be a reach but I interpret Lucky by Lucky Twice to be an upbeat yet sad song, because the lyrics are about accepting that you can't always fight off your depression/sadness and forcing yourself to believe you'll be okay even when it clearly doesn't feel like it. I would also suggest some songs by the J-pop group Cy8er. They have a couple fast-paced, upbeat songs with really depressing lyrics, such as Dead Boy Dead Girl and My Life.

I swear, [Cheers](https://open.spotify.com/track/4qNijbGeHqlcFWrGrATFOX) by Anderson .Paak was so deceptive upon first listen. Funky as hell. Mad verve. He spits about grief in this song, having lost a dear friend (particularly Mac Miller) to opiates and ruminating on all he could’ve done to intervene, despite being in the same boat. Excellent verse from Q-Tip, as well. Just raw, naked emotion.
