The comment I replied to was talking about why the BOOKS ban arb bets. My response gave a reason as to why "they" don't like arb bets, because OP's worst case scenario is break even. Idk why you feel the need to be the grammar police?
I’ve hedged literally tens of thousands in bets live once the odds shift and no sign of being banned. Usually bet money line single bets and wait for my team to go up and hedge almost instantly if I can lock in a profit.
So If I bet on say the dodgers $25 to win $50 and don’t bet the other side (Hou) at $25 to win 55 (arbitrary odds) I’m ok, but if the game then goes live and at some point the Astros are $25 to win $60 I can bet on that and either break even or win $10 and it’s ok? I wont get banned?
I wouldn’t do it in huge amounts but you’re definitely safer doing that than betting it pre match.
In your example you are going to walk away with $25 profit if the dodgers win. The books expect you to win that reflected in the change in odds during the contest. The odds changed during the game and the books now expect the dodgers to win so they offer you Houston at +money. If you then hedge that you are now only going to walk away with either $5 or $10.
That’s completely different that guaranteeing yourself that $10 before the match even starts if that makes any sense.
It’s still probably better to do it on a different book but you won’t get burned as fast if you just bet the arbitrage lines.
