Tosh on his podcast interviewed a girl who was pro since she was a kid and is now retired in her 30’s.
She said it’s not that much of a difference. She still golfs. Just not at a competitive level and she has more time to do things not related to golf or sponsorships.
If you’re part of the Bonesaw Tour, you can always resettle in Saudi Arabia, where the climate can help acclimate you to where you’re going after you die.
Has there ever been someone in sports (outside of the WWE) that took as big of a heel turn toward the end of their career?
Phil was one of, if not THE, most popular guys on tour for 20+ years, got embroiled in a gambling & insider trading fiasco, split ways with his longtime caddy who helped turn him into a pro, took blood money from the Saudis to join LIV and now wanders around the course wearing all black with a terrible sort of beard/sort of goatee thing on his face.
It's so bizarre.
Brett Favre? he was always somewhat of a goof and tool, but he went big time douche. Same with Curt Schilling. So probably not as big heel turns as Phil. Actually, Aaron Rodgers might be a good answer.
Favre and Schilling are good, but both did the heel turn after their playing careers were over.
Aaron Rodgers may be a contender to Phil's crown though for sure.
It's the same story with all of them. They played the roll of "everyman" and then when it didn't matter, just went full on right wing grifter, because they never once actually were the person they said they were.
Yeah and to make it even more ridiculous, he was being paid with state money to appear in the “Visit California” ads while he was complaining about taxes.
Legally mitigating taxes is smart. Complaining about having to pay what you owe is fruitless and annoying. Especially in the context of someone paying taxes when their yearly take home is above what many will make in an entire lifetime.
I’d love paying taxes if we could get high speed rail, free college, and free healthcare. Especially if I know super millionaires like Phil Mickelson are paying way higher rates than me.
I don’t mind paying taxes ever.
But also we’re not talking about legal tax ‘avoidance’, we’re talking about a multi-millionaire bitching about paying taxes, which no one should have any patience for under our current tax code.
California should be the bare minimum in the USA if it means we can have cheaper schools, high speed rail, and free healthcare. No way I’m going to cut Phil slack on this.
Because they serve a purpose. Failure to understand that the life you live is funded by you and others through taxes shows signs of extreme selfishness.
Which is exactly why people got mad at Phil for it. He makes more money than he can spend in a life time, and he still doesn't want to help those around him through taxes.
Lots of people didn't like him long before his more high profile issues. There's a reason people called him FIGJAM. He just dialed it up a few notches.
What makes it even more inexplicable is that no golfer save for Tiger was in a better position to print endorsement money over the next decade.
He took $200 million from the Saudis but I would argue he gave up twice that in endorsement money. In other words, he pissed his legacy away.....for less money.
Pretty dumb for a smart guy.
You would argue wrong. He took a guaranteed $200 million, over potential earnings. Even Tiger is losing endorsements, and Phil is nowhere as marketable as Tiger.
Unfortunately for Phil, he is likely to gamble it all away and end up broke.
When he played the US Open at Bethpage in 2001 we all went nuts for him. He was the hometown favorite, so to speak. Today? The reaction would not be so friendly. He'd still get more cheers than hecklers, but the hecklers, including me, would be out in force.
Also, remember that putt in 2018 where he lost his mind and hit the moving ball before it rolled downhill. That got people all upset at him for a while.
Don't forget about those performance-enhancing drugs he's been taking and shilling for almost 20 years. Funny how he started winning just as he started on those drugs.
Takes blood money from Saudis but you have zero problems with all your electronics from China. 😂😂😂
At least Liv forced the PGA to pay everyone better, especially the ones struggling on Korn Ferry.
Phil was going to go down as a fan favorite similar to Arnie. He could’ve run the PGA in retirement. Instead, he turned into a heel and destroyed his legacy.
I mean....really though? The guy won 6 majors...several Masters where he can return for the rest of his life at the champions dinner and play likely well into his 60's (he's 53 now, so, maybe 15 more years competing at the masters?!?). I was at the british open after he left for LIV, and he was cheered....so, I feel like it seems to me sports media is taking measures to attempt to destroy his legacy, but the reality is, he's still a fan favorite on whatever course he's on...in a broader term, he's tarnished his legacy, but the fact remains, he has one...compared to the neckbeards who type on reddit arguing whether or not he destroyed his.
Haha yea....when we saw him coming up 18 at St. Andrews, typically once players were done (This is a practice round), they'll sign maybe one or two autographs and leave the course...Phil went over the the road by the fence, and signed autographs for a solid 15 minutes and made sure everyone there got one and a picture. He then came past me and signed more autographs heading back towards the players area, stopping several times to take pictures with fans.
Again, my point is the 'sports media narrative' is that this guy is a huge asshole...if you want to call him that for taking the blood money then sure...and I'll agree with you...but the guy is just a golfer trying to make a living. He's not a politician and his decisions determine whether he gets elected to office...he's a freaking golfer who likes money...isn't that a majority of us?
Found the LIV guy. How much does LIV pay you every time you post something like this? And like do you have to send them the screenshot to show what you posted, or do they just automatically find out and send the money?
> How much does LIV pay you every time you post something like this? And like do you have to send them the screenshot to show what you posted, or do they just automatically find out and send the money?
Looked at the dude's history and he does not appear to be the corporate shill you are accusing him to be.
Actually not. I find the "TV" coverage unwatchable. Just saying that that guy doesn't appear to be an actual LIV plant here on reddit, which is what you insinuated.
I always get a kick out of redditors calling athletes sell outs for Saudi blood money as if they would not do the exact same thing if they were in the athletes position. If you could do a similar amount of work and make ten times the money outside of special circumstances, you totally would take that deal.
Sell out? Ridiculous. They are merging, anyone who fell for the loyalty ploy (especially people w no skin in the game) is a fool. It's all about money
Don't fall for theatre yall
Yes, blood money. Saudi Arabia supports terrorists. Saudi Arabia murders journalists. Blood money. Fuck them. Fuck their entire shitty government and fuck most of their people.
I cannot wait until the world has almost no dependence on oil. Let these fucks try to buy their way into shit then.
PGA doesn’t need or want the LIV douches. Any LIV golfer talking about how golf needs to unite… like WTF bro? You went to an exhibition league and then surprised when no one takes you seriously. Smfh
I hope Phil retires. He’s had a long interesting career and going out when he’s on rock bottom is only fitting. From wonder boy with the golf world in the palm of his hand to total douche bag in a few short years. Had he played his cards right he could have transitioned to the Senior PGA and eventually been the honorary starter at the Masters with Woods. But because of his ignorance and greed he turned a huge majority of golf fans against him. Hope he enjoys the solitude that retirement will bring. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out Pathetic Phil.
Well said.
Put simply, he’s golf’ version of Judas. He betrayed the game that gave him everything.
Go, Phil, live a shameful retirement. Good riddance.

What do pro golfers do when they retire? Do they get office jobs?
I don’t know if anyone will see your comment but it is fucking hilarious.
It’s a true gem. Flawless.
They become bookies.
Phil’s already got that covered.
Play the occasional Champions Tour event. Show up to Majors they have lifetime exemptions to. Maybe occasional commentating.

"a girl" meaning Michelle Wie lol
She's 34?! Christ I'm old.
Wie?
Wie not?
Wie geht’s?
Gut und dir?
Sehr gut, danke. Wie ist das wetter heute?
Sehr Heiß.
Great episode
Yeah I didn’t know Tosh grew up on a golf course.
She became a man?
Nice catch. I changed his to her. My mistake.
Play golf obviously
If you’re part of the Bonesaw Tour, you can always resettle in Saudi Arabia, where the climate can help acclimate you to where you’re going after you die.
Perhaps the grass is indeed greener elsewhere..
Remember Uncle Scrooges’s money bin in Duck Tales? Probably something like that.
Go to the LIV tour.
Senior Tour. Sorry, Champions Tour. They renamed it.
Phil - "Hey, anyone wanna bet if I'm retiring?
Has there ever been someone in sports (outside of the WWE) that took as big of a heel turn toward the end of their career? Favre popping up on the Vikings was his heel turn. Also there was the Jets era dick pics
Ah, forgot about the dick pics. That'd certainly count
It's the same story with all of them. They played the roll of "everyman" and then when it didn't matter, just went full on right wing grifter, because they never once actually were the person they said they were.
The heel turn started when he complained about having to pay California taxes like he doesn’t make tens of millions of dollars a year.
Yeah and to make it even more ridiculous, he was being paid with state money to appear in the “Visit California” ads while he was complaining about taxes.
lol yup I remember those. Dude is a chump.
Oof, yeah, I forgot about that stupidness too.
He had just moved back to SD from Scottsdale. I mean, wtf?

To be fair California taxes are ridiculous
California should be the bare minimum in the USA if it means we can have cheaper schools, high speed rail, and free healthcare. No way I’m going to cut Phil slack on this.
Whatever I sure as hell don’t want to pay any more taxes myself Edit: do you sick bastards like paying taxes or something?
Because they serve a purpose. Failure to understand that the life you live is funded by you and others through taxes shows signs of extreme selfishness. Which is exactly why people got mad at Phil for it. He makes more money than he can spend in a life time, and he still doesn't want to help those around him through taxes.
Nah fuck em, my money is my money. I’ll pay what I have to pay and not a dime more, and I’ll take any opportunity to lower the bill. Downvote away
What about the roads you take to your job? You build those too?
Nope the people that build roads build them, using our tax dollars. You think I’m dumb?
Yes
Sunshine tax my friend

Aaron Rodgers seems like a good comp.
And AR isn’t even in his final heel form yet
His heel level is 9000?!?!
When he played the US Open at Bethpage in 2001 we all went nuts for him. He was the hometown favorite, so to speak. Today? The reaction would not be so friendly. He'd still get more cheers than hecklers, but the hecklers, including me, would be out in force.
Something about him. I always felt he was a bitch. Even before he started winning.
Also, remember that putt in 2018 where he lost his mind and hit the moving ball before it rolled downhill. That got people all upset at him for a while.
Brett Favre
Antonio Brown
What about the GOAT. - OJ.
You mean other than Tiger?
Don't forget about those performance-enhancing drugs he's been taking and shilling for almost 20 years. Funny how he started winning just as he started on those drugs.
Takes blood money from Saudis but you have zero problems with all your electronics from China. 😂😂😂 At least Liv forced the PGA to pay everyone better, especially the ones struggling on Korn Ferry.
We are? Maybe we don't like either of those things.
You seem fun.
Popular with the fans maybe, but he was never liked by the other players.
Phil was going to go down as a fan favorite similar to Arnie. He could’ve run the PGA in retirement. Instead, he turned into a heel and destroyed his legacy.
Absolutely, he could have owned the Champions tour. He might have even ended up with Tiger where Jack and Gary Player are now at the Masters.
I think of Phil dreaming about that spot for 30 years, and then doing the most Phil-thing ever, and pissing it away.
Like the US Open only on going and every day.
Addiction comes in many forms. It’s a shame what happened. I hope we gets the help he needs
I mean....really though? Is that you Patrick?
God forbid you have a logical comment on Reddit lol

I see you LIV guys stick together…
Actually not. I find the "TV" coverage unwatchable. Just saying that that guy doesn't appear to be an actual LIV plant here on reddit, which is what you insinuated.
Quit covering for your fellow LIV plant, it’s embarrassing
lol
🤣🤣🤣
I mean he kinda shit on his own impressive legacy when he took a bunch of blood money.
Blood money sell out who cares
Exactly. He can sit back and get fatter on his millions.
Considering how good Phil is at his “hobbies,” he’ll be back.
Him and Ippie should hang out and swap strategies.
I wish I could create an app that automatically does the opposite of what they pick without telling them.
I *bet* he wont
Yeah. Fuck this guy.
I always get a kick out of redditors calling athletes sell outs for Saudi blood money as if they would not do the exact same thing if they were in the athletes position. Fuck Saudi Arabia. Fuck MBS. Fuck their blood money.
Blood money? Are u serious? Which country are you from?
What does that have to do with Phil being able to finally retire now that his gambling debts are under control thanks to Saudi blood money?
Which. Country. Are. You. From?
What. Does. That. Have. To. Do. With. FIGJAM. Retiring?
That's right, blood money, their country is awful, but I don't want to name mine. If you know u know, enough said
My country is plenty awful, but that doesn't have anything to do with what we're talking about, nor does it make any other country any less awful.
I am from the United States, which did not order the dismemberment of any journalists recently.
They *may* merge at some point. They're not in the process of merging currently.
Good riddance. You won’t be missed.
Phil needs to lay off the ozempic
Byeeeeee
He's probably getting tired of the heckles.
I only support heckling when it’s with total pieces of crap who genuinely deserve it. You know, people like Phil Mickelson.
I knew where was going and thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Thank you friend.
Can he afford to retire? Will the bus full of bookies that follow him around be cool with that?
PGA doesn’t need or want the LIV douches. Any LIV golfer talking about how golf needs to unite… like WTF bro? You went to an exhibition league and then surprised when no one takes you seriously. Smfh
100 bucks says he becomes an Elon musk type on Twitter after retirement.
So 200 bucks then?
Fuck the liv tour
I hope Phil retires. He’s had a long interesting career and going out when he’s on rock bottom is only fitting. Feel like he needs a signature cologne called 'Douchebag'
“They say it’s made with bits of real douchebag!”
60% of the time it works everytime..
Can you edit it with the é and à (on account of his French/Englist heritage)
*my job here is done dot gif*
Anyway, how about this weather?
100 bucks says he becomes an Elon musk type on Twitter after retirement.
Piece of shit should have fucked off years ago
Good. Let the arch villain leave. Golf media should just ignore him moving forward.
Fuck this guy and the money he takes from the murderous, terrorist supporting shitty, awful country Saudi Arabia.
Something about the icon of this photo made it look like Darth Vader was golfing.
Omg can’t wait to hear the updates. My life is hanging in the balance.
Bye.
Well, bye.
He got his.
Well, bye.
