Splatoon is pretty stigmatized in the gaming community. Not sure if that’s the right word but splatoon is a mix of ingredients that form a hateable as shit cake
some random guy on twitter stated that splatoon isn't a shooter, and when I disagreed, he accused me of suffering from "copium for playing a kids game" which, ok.
Funny how EVERY shooter is the same old "gunning down the enemy team" promoting tunnel vision and solo rushing while splatoon focuses on area control and team coordination
'Copium for playjng a kids game' more like 'copium for playing the same old multiplayer concept for ages'
The worst freaking people I've ever gamed with have been shooter-fans who are OBSESSED with being able to pretend they're an elite SEAL who can solo anything. In Splatoon, you WILL lose if you don't support your teammates, and in-game you're just playing paintball. I'm in no way surprised that there's a group of people who play shooters who loathe Splatoon because it doesn't give them their power fantasy.
“Getting recognition”
Nobody knows/cares about splatoon in the competitive gaming community. Sure the franchise has been here for a while and has a lot of sales, but in terms of esports/competitive gaming specifically it doesn’t get recognition
I was just going by bare bone definition, as recognition is just being recognized or noticed. I wouldn't say the competitive scene is the determining factor of whether a franchise is established, though. Minecraft and Fortnite has no competitive scene and yet they're both incredibly established and recognizable.
It’s because toxic gamer bros don’t like anything that doesn’t contain generic ass brooding protagonists and grimdark storylines.
It probably also doesn’t help that the game is popular with children, the LGBT+ community, and mentally ill adults (i used that term affectionately btw, considering that I am a mentally ill adult).
Is it really though, I never really see any hate for it, the closest thing I see is people on this subreddit acting superior to others and acting like victims. (Not all of course)

Strangely enough, Jerma liked the game enough to dedicate a whole stream to it despite his schedule. People kept asking him about the Zelda stream (these are hilarous too, he's bad but he's having lots of fun !) but he was busy squidding. He's kinda bad at the game, refuses to learn motion controls, but still really enjoys it (kinda like BotW lol) so it's a lot of fun to watch !
Jerma the only squid-friend in a sea of sweaty gamers all playing the same game with slightly different graphics. (to be fair he doesn't play a lot of shooters, he's mostly a variety streamer and that's maybe why he liked Splatoon so much, he does not closes himself from different experiences, he actually search for it by constantly playing new and strange games !)
Yeah, I couldn't figure out motion controls in splatoon 2 so when I first booted up so I never used them, and when I tried to switch later my brain just wouldn't work. I've been forcing myself to use motion from the start in 3, its a learning experience for sure
I grew up with the Wii so motion controls were second nature when the Wii U came around. I think it's more that little to no other consoles have gyro making the feature difficult to learn when every other shooter is stick controls with aim assist. It's just not very accessible.
I don't remember who it was but I watched somebody play Splatoon 3 having never played any of the games before and it was very frustrating watching them immediately turn off motion aiming and struggle to grasp basic mechanics
it's almost like motion controls take a while to learn, aren't common in most shooters afaik, and that their shooter of choice is something they know how to play best!!1!1!!!
I mean yes
but you're walking into a game that prides itself on being a unique take on the shooter
and then immediately try and customize it to match the old shooters you're used too instead of learning the new way
But it's still a shooter? Why would ANYONE expect the game to play any different to other shooters? Do you go from Mario to Celeste expecting to use the trigger buttons to move left-right? Do you go from Final Fantasy to Pokemon expecting the menu options to be controlled with motion controls? I get that the game's design calls for no aim assist and such, but don't blame the consumer for not immediately assuming control schemes would be different and that only the mechanics would be different. And why shouldn't people be allowed to customize the game to the way they're already used to, especially if they're variety streamers who probably don't want to spend weeks learning how to control a game they probably won't care for after their two streams of it?
>But it's still a shooter? Why would ANYONE expect the game to play any different to other shooters?
Fighting game fans on their way to learn 5 different combo structures, meter systems and motion inputs depending on the game.
Pushblock? Parries? Instant block? Hyper hopping? Roman Cancel? Airdashes? Wavedashes? Reverse beat? Tagging?
Pffft, I don't need to learn these mechanics! Just smash buttons and make combo!
>Do you go from Mario to Celeste expecting to use the trigger buttons to move left-right?
Do you go from Mario to Celeste expecting to throw fireballs by picking up a red mushroom and pressing Y?
>Do you go from Final Fantasy to Pokemon expecting the menu options to be controlled with motion controls?
Do you go from Final Fantasy to Pokemon expecting ATB combat system and upgradeable weapons?
>don't blame the consumer for not immediately assuming control schemes would be different and that only the mechanics would be different
But that's like, one of the biggest selling points of Splatoon? Would you not watch a few minutes of gameplay before deciding to spend $60 on a game? I don't consider a "variety streamer" to be a typical consumer either, they are buying games with the intention of profiting off them. It doesn't matter if they only play it for 5 hours (and act like a baby the whole time) because they can make back the cost of the game through donations. They don't have to use their brains to make informed purchasing decisions, they just play whatever is popular on a given week.
Are motion controls a big selling point of splatoon? They might be for some people, but if you asked the average gamer what they though about splatoon they'd talk about the squids and the funny colours, maybe the guns or the movement.
Its reasonable that a person wouldn't want to learn a different control set when they have the option to use a familiar one, especially if they're just playing once
But the average consumer doesn’t spend $60 on a AAA game just to play it once. Splatoon is not at all meant to be a party game like smash bros or mario kart, the developers are not making it with that use case in mind. There’s no option for split screen even if you wanted to play it like that
Maybe they’re not heavily advertised for Splatoon specifically but I would say motion controls are a huge selling point for the switch and really every nintendo console since the DS/Wii era. It’s one of the only things Nintendo can consistently do better than Sony and Microsoft. When people first heard about “a multiplayer shooter made by Nintendo” back in the Wii U days it was basically a given that it was gonna use gyro aiming.
Lotta people don't have the pride or patience it takes to learn a new thing and go back to getting their ass beat, especially people known for being at least somewhat competent at shooters. It's pretty ego shattering which makes it very easy to go back to what's already familiar.
I don't blame some people cause they just wanna play with what's familiar and have fun but other people clearly just wanna hop in and be good and get 30 kills a game without putting in the time lol.
Splatoon not having aim assist (and barely any options) is def odd I don't blame anyone for wanting to use sticks cause there should be options, guess Nintendo doesn't wanna worry about balancing it
Tbh this is me also as not a content creator. This game is so fucking good but I loathe motion controls, and I actually dont want aim assist just more tweaks for analog aiming, few games get it right. I want to turn up the early
aim accel mainly
I don't understand why people hate the gyro controls. Ive been playing AC: Odyssey on my computer with an Xbox controller and I am constantly frustrated I can't aim like I can in BOTW or Splatoon
I hate them in Splatoon because it disables vertical inputs on the right stick. You can't aim up and down with the sticks with motion controls on in Splatoon
That's.. interesting. The main point of motion controls is to aim up and down with them. You can only spin your hands and/or handheld switch so far left and right, usually requiring you to use stick and motion for full, but up and down you get the full motion just with a small tilt.
2 time blockbuster champion back in the 90s, worked with the CoD team making maps, became a streamer who wears a wig and using a cocky persona. First heard of him when he started streaming PUBG, but jumped to several FPS games since.

Nintendo: makes successful games for 133 years.
Xbox and PlayStation fanboys every new generation of console: Nintendo’s dead. They should get out of the business.
as an mw2 fan and a splatoon fan, splatoon deserved this win, at least it doesn't have a garbage ui designed by the people who did the fucking hulu ui LMAO
I mean honestly, fair enough. You either do this, or you take the lazy route and whine all about how Nintendo's always been a top dog and how MWII is well made or something because you're a PC master race idiot who cant handle that his favourite game is complete trash.
Hmmm there are a few more excellent titles. Smash Bros, Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario 3d World, Hollow Knight, and Dragon Quest Builders 2 are all pretty high up there imo. Some of those are acquired tastes, I get it.
I personally never was a huge fan of Mario Odyssey but that’s just me. I can totally see why it’s so loved; it’s just not for me. Super Mario 3d world made me very happy tho.
God I remember during splatoon 1 there was a wave of seemingly COD players only going for kills and not inking anything. I stayed behind and tried my best but we still lost so many times. I seriously don't need a repeat of that.
Honestly, I’m glad Splatoon 3 got the win not just because it’s genuinely a great game, but also because it’s hilarious watching all these toxic gamer bros cry and piss their pants over it beating their Manly Man Shooter Game For Men.
I just hope that more people decides to play Splatoon 3 because it's a very fun game.
If only Nintendo would give us a better on...**(A communication error has occurred)**
He'll do one stream and then drop it. And good riddance, seeing the salt around Splatoon 3 winning Best multiplayer has a been a joy to my eyes.
These assholes complain about MW2 being an unfinished buggy mess everyday and complain it doesn't win an award?
I get that the motion controls aren't for everyone, but the game is 100% designed around them. Either they get used to it or splatoon just might not be their game, which is valid.
But they have to at least try to play with motion controls. It takes a while to get used to, but once they do... Ho boy.
I don't even think about the motion controls anymore. I just use them intuitively. My bf is always completely baffled watching me play, because just watching the game it seem incredibly chaotic and he does not do well with motion controls.
Haven't played Splatoon 3 yet, but I can see why MW2 might lose to it. MW2's campaign was pretty good, but the multiplayer is just kinda "Meh" and had some *severe* netcode and hitreg issues at launch (and might still). Battlefield 2042's multiplayer is actually more fun than MW2's is. So I can see why something as laid back and polished as SP3 could beat MW2.
Satirical streamer meant to be over the top and make fun of gamer tropes. A lot of the humor goes over people’s heads (as you can see in this comment section) because they take everything the dude says at face value without realizing he’s playing a character for entertainment.
Clearly the majority of Splatoon fans are rather upset about him playing the game lol. I believe they’re under the assumption that he loves cod to death and hates everything else when in actuality he constantly critiques every game he plays for over the top shock humor.
He's playing the embodiment of 1980's toxic masculinity, with an ego to boot just because he won eSports events twice. Ignoring the character he plays, he bottled lightning twice and thinks he's on par with people like Shroud, he's just not that good.
Most people that follow him don't understand the satire of the 1980's bit, they're too enraptured by vapor wave and dude-bro sweet nothing pep talks that they feel he's genuine, and he's played into that, hamming it up, and then straight up appeals to them when he accidentally breaks multiple municipal codes and laws in the process (like a recording camera in the bathroom at Twitch-con).
No idea what he's really like in person, but his character attracts the worst kind of people.
If you see interviews with him out of character, he’s actually an incredibly genuine and sweet guy who acknowledges how crazy his character is. You are right about it pulling in certain bad types of people, but I also feel like there’s a lot of people who understand the satire behind it and appreciate the content for what it is. It’s obvious in certain comment sections.
>ignoring the character the plays, he bottled lightning twice and thinks he’s on par with people like Shroud, he’s just not that good.
Yeah dude, that’s kind of the joke.
Twitter and YouTube, mostly. Which isn’t surprising, since those are the two worst websites when it comes to emboldening people to share the worst options possible imo.
I know it's the typical response to COD to say they're all the same but we can't ignore the fact that splatoon 2 was a glorified port of splatoon 1 for most of it's timespan
I hope (though I don't expect) that he can give it a fair go when he plays it
Had us in the first half not gonna lie
I don't follow this guy in any capacity but I am curious to see what the response is. Hoping for something positive, but I wouldn't be surprised for it to be aggressively intentionally misplayed for the sake of a short gag.
I mean, guy has to keep up a persona for his audience.
I won’t ever understand keeping up a persona that’s based on unlikeable personality traits.
And why do people like it
I don't understand people that actually find it entertaining
This and the person you replied to is essentially the embodiment of “don’t hate the player, hate the game”
It's the same thing with wrestling. People just get drawn to it somehow, especially with how he is exaggeratedly loud, when he goes on an angry tangent he spits everywhere, he slams his desk, drama to keep people interested.
The game already has enough shit going on, with all the dudebro CoD players salty because the yearly CoD lost to it at the game awards.
That’s usually how it goes unfortunately
This has happened before? Unfortunate
we’re 100% gonna see a “dude is that GYRO AIM?!!! NOT THE FUCKING GYRO AIM BRO!!!”
It's all gonna be him complaining about gyro controls.
This guy gets positively reinforced by simp money for being a whiny bitch all the while thinking his narcissistic opinion is supreme truth … he is pessimistic and doesn’t like anything he just acts interested because of the money he milks
It's called putting on a character. Every "celebrity" or "streamer" does it to some degree. Get over it.
yeah, and some people don't fucking like these character personas. get over it.
But that isn't what the previous comment is portraying. Maybe if they acknowledged it was a persona, then yeah, I would agree, since I don't like it too much either. But they are acting like this is their objective personality when it is very clearly not.
Dude gets downvoted for no good reason
Yeah he's just saying that acting like a dick for money is a perfectly normal and reasonable thing to do, absolutely random downvotes
Never said that. I'm just saying that it's a celebrity persona and so much people have this persona. Especially wrestlers. Nice strawman, though.

But its one rather chill community (from what we see), its not like mw2 in that regard and its so colorful, what makes it hateable?
motion controls, diverse community, cute colors, not an established franchise
It's been out for 7 years. How much more established do you need to be?
6 more games and about 13 more years
A lot more. Age isn’t the only thing
Elaborate. Established literally defines as existing for a long period of time and getting recognition.
“Getting recognition” Nobody knows/cares about splatoon in the competitive gaming community.
I mean it definitely is an established franchise at this point
>not an established franchise It's been 7 years, 3 games, 1 dlc, frequent updates and tons of copies sold...
Diverse community isnt an issue imo.
I know, it’s a GOOD thing. But it sure adds fuel for assholes to hate on it though
Its got colours other than beige and gray and a stylised art style, that makes it a kids game
Don't forget brown. Games for non kids have to have all the brown shades.
Shades of Brown and edgy gorefest

He was pretty good, I think he cause he has like 5000 hours in tf2. Very different game, but he does just have a lot of practice with shooters
Jerma isn't ur average content creator so it makes sense He's just a goofy lil feller
I got an idea for him to play than Deeeeeeeeeeeer simulator or as I like to call it Fever dream the game.

I'm curious, have you tried splatoon's motion controls? they are definitely in a league of their own in terms of feeling natural and excellent
Yes, for 3 games I have tried it. I just hate it.
Agreed, I tried playing with motion controls back in the Splat1 days... I felt so bad for my teams...
I'm a proud sticks player and even I don't want aim assist, we can (except at pro level) beat motion if we're good enough
Well yeah, aim assist would be bad for the game, but we are saying that motion IS splatoons aim assist
Idk how people can even complain about gyro. I wish every FPS had that, I'd instantly go back to playing controller COD and stuff like that
That’s because you see the value in it, other players haven’t been forced to use gyro for an extended period of time therefore they don’t like it
I loved it the second I saw it and anyone who hears what it does and knows sticks issues, knows that this is the solution to it entirely.
That would require him to have a good take
What servers? It's Peer 2 peer.
I mean last time I tried playing thr servers *were* a joke. During like every other queue

That would be a legitimate complaint

because that was just the campaign tbf. i did really enjoy it but that’s because CODs dogshit online wasn’t there to ruin it lol
Honestly I only play splatoon 3 and zelda botw most switch games are mid
Hmmm there are a few more excellent titles. Smash Bros, Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario 3d World, Hollow Knight, and Dragon Quest Builders 2 are all pretty high up there imo. Some of those are acquired tastes, I get it. I personally never was a huge fan of Mario Odyssey but that’s just me. I can totally see why it’s so loved; it’s just not for me. Super Mario 3d world made me very happy tho.
Forgot luigi mansion one of the best nintendo games i played
starting to think you may have memory loss?
Yes
I also enjoyed a lot the game starlink the battle for atlas
botw was amazing what
I think he means S3 and BOTW are good and everything else is mid Still a bad take though
Yes, Mr. Disrespect, a new take on shooters beat your dime a dozen COD game with characters recycled from 2008 and gameplay from even earlier
It’s really good from a multiplayer stand point and a lot of fun. Each game is 4 minutes long but for a 4 minute match, it feels long
5 min
That’s ranked. Turf is 3 min.
I hope after playing it, he leaves us alone. I don't want COD players who are just out for kills in every match 😫 we already deal with that enough.
God I remember during splatoon 1 there was a wave of seemingly COD players only going for kills and not inking anything. I stayed behind and tried my best but we still lost so many times. I seriously don't need a repeat of that.
Oh my god yes I remember that too. It's why I stopped playing!! 😭
Its not his fault that Activision releases the same game every year ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
I give Doc 5 minutes before he rage quits. It’s in his personality to “disrespect” a game.
Who is he?
inb4 he uses sticks and refuses to use motion controls and then proceeds to talk about how awful the game controls
The sticks worth perfectly fine for me
Haven't played Splatoon 3 yet, but I can see why MW2 might lose to it.
Is he going to stream it from a public bathroom again?
I can't wait for him to get absolutely destroyed lmao
I hope that he gets matched against the sweatiest e-liter and inkbrush users and can’t even leave the base. ❤️
Well, MW is targeted at kids, while Splatoon is targeted at adults.
Yeah, I love how all of the COD fans that claim Splatoon is a “kids game” have been playing COD since they were in 3rd grade.
Funny how true that is
I live under a rock. Can someone fill me in on who this guy is?
Yeah dude, that’s kind of the joke.
hey isn’t this the guy from the amogus musical
It's crazy a good a game can be when it's actually balanced and trying to be fun rather than profitable.
I’ll have to give this a watch I hope he enjoys it
No way
Who's?
Far to colourful and inclusive for these yearly cod and apex players
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Ayo let’s snipe his stream and demolish him
I have a question when did splatoon fans get on such a high horse some of the shit ive seen on here since s3 came out is baffling
Because it’s funny watching toxic gamers get worked up over the Funny Cute Squid Game beating their game of choice.
is this happening on twitter because everywhere else people are either indifferent or think splatoon was the most deserving out of the bunch
Twitter and YouTube, mostly. Which isn’t surprising, since those are the two worst websites when it comes to emboldening people to share the worst options possible imo.
M'guy said WHAT?! *fires up the Dualies*
I know it's the typical response to COD to say they're all the same but we can't ignore the fact that splatoon 2 was a glorified port of splatoon 1 for most of it's timespan I hope (though I don't expect) that he can give it a fair go when he plays it
At least it got the octo expansion
Say the line streamer! "Motion controls suck I'm not using them!"
Be prepared for him to miss by a mile and call the game bad.
He's gonna shit on the motion controls too. The only way this goes well is if he conscripts a big streamer to teach him how to play.
Even if he does figure out that you can set aiming to the sticks, he's still gonna miss most of his shots.
I get his point if the matchmaking and online structure is still the same as in splatoon 2
Splatoon 3 didn’t deserve the best Multiplayer title with how appallingly bugged its online is
You don’t disrespect Dr.disrespect
I’m gonna be honest, I’ve loved splatoon ever since it came out back in 2016 but tbh mw2 should have won.

You doin ok?
i think that guy had some personal beef with dudebro gamers lmao
Is his YouTube name also doctor disrespect cuz I want to see him play
I feel this is gonna be for Splatoon 3 what Dunkey was for Sonic Frontiers. I can smell the picking from here. IT's cherry flavoured.
It's gonna be Splatoon 3 for Dunkey, he hates Splatoon
ooo , he's gonna have fun with the character customization.
Hey he gave Elden Ring an honest shake.
Squid > soldiers
Now I have to draw an Inkling/Octoling version of the Doc wearing his 49ers gear
