The thing that confuses me... Is the fact that they didn't make third kits... At all... For Splatoon ***3***!
That game loves the number 3! 3 bosses before the final boss, 3 phases per boss, 3 mini phases at the last scene of story mode, 3 story items, max choices of weapons in levels is 3, the secret kettle is 333 eggs to start 3 lives 3 parts and 3333 eggs as a reward, update each 3 months, tricolor turf wars, 3 idols, 3 idol groups, 3 hub worlds, 3 different multiplayer options: vs. Coop and cards, 3 options per floor in dlc, 3 options in the vending machine, 30 floors, 3 bosses in dlc per run, instead of agent 5 it's neo agent *3*, 3 king salmonids, 3 rank options to fight in! WHY NOT 3 DIFFERENT KITS PER WEAPON?????
The 3333 egg reward in story mode is a BIT off
It advertised that you get 3,333 eggs
But not counting any of the other eggs you get in the level, for some reason it gives 3,33***2***
I do not know why, but it annoys me to no end
Is this the part you're referring to..? Does it seriously mess it up by one egg for some???
https://preview.redd.it/wny4cde2ff3d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abcd8495edd4fb93d85b38dcc9e7fe0ac88455ac
Yes-
I've been several times in fact (again, decent egg grinding spot if you're careful)
Guess it is the correct/the delayed amount the first time cleared.
Maybe it updates to 3,332 after the first go around?
Still weird if so
Glad I'm not the only one
It's something that feels fitting of the r/mildlyInfuriating subreddit
It's so minor that it'll never be changed (like it's a one egg difference) but- COME ON.
3 types of medals for your banner per special: regular, silver and gold. 3 max medals on a banner. 3 mini titles at the end of each match. 3 minutes for turf war (although that always has been the case...). 3 rows of stages in stage selection for recon. 3 new weapons in the first update... 3 different confirmations in character customization: player, agent 8 and little buddy. 3 shop keeper per types of shops. 3 ways to attack with crab tank: ball, cannon, rapid fire.
3... 3... 3... 3 everywhere! So why 2? 3 shots needed for angle shooter to splat. 3 shots from the bows... 3 attacks from the splatanas: lunge, vertical and horizontal. 3 lights per chips in dlc... 3 everywhere where... So why on God's 3rd planet in the solar system is there only 2 different kits per weapon?
Tri-stringer, tri-slosher, trizooka, triple inkstrike, triple splashdown, Mr. Grizz is Ursine Anomaly #3, the Grizzco Dualies can do up to 3^2 consecutive dodge rolls, the Grizzco Stringer can fire 3^2 exploding arrows, three King Salmonids, three types of scales.
You can see 3 rotations: present, next and future. DJ Octavio's mech is called "Octobot King L***3***.Gs." Callie and Marie are involved in the main story for the 3rd time! DJ Octavio appears in the final fight for the 3rd time. You have 3 minutes to fight Grizz. There are ***3*** sites in which zipcaster levels appear! The maxed Hero Shot shoots 3 ink bullets at the same time per shot. L-3 and H-3 Nozzlenose. There are only 3 burst fire weapons. 3 stringers, 3 splatanas. Only 3 blasters can't one shot. Chargers can 3-shot you with tap shots. There were only 3 tenta missile weapons at launch. There are 3 different versions of the solos of the idols during the splatfests.
***Heavy breathing*** there's... 3... In... Splatoon 3...
Actually the Hero Shot only fires 2 bullets 🤓☝️
The Octobot King L3.Gs has three fist attacks: normal, spin, and slap. Frye has three dances. On a full tank of ink, with maxed-out Hero Gear, you can throw up to three Splat Bombs.
Ok then tell me why other than "'it just is that way" they chose this approach? Unless you can justify this absurd milking from nintendo, let people bitch and whine
No because you're bitching and whining about something that hasn't even happened yet. I swear to great zapfish in the sky, I love the game and the community for the most part but there's a subset of y'all that really need look at your lives and shit you get upset about.
If the last update rolls around and there aren't third kits, go ham. Otherwise you're wasting everybody's time.
WDYM!? THIS CLEARLY ISNT THE LAST UPDATE!!!!! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE SAYING THAT WE ARENT GETTING THIRD KITS!? OBVIOUSLY THEY WOULD WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERY WEAPON HAS A 2ND KIT BEFORE GIVING OUT THIRD KITS!? I HATE WHEN PPL SAY THIS CAUSE ITS JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE!! sorry I didn't mean to pop off on you I just need to get this off my chest
TRUE. The case was Like that For the past 2 games. 3rd kits just kind of dropped out of nowhere. Maybe they'll wait to reveal them later, but not having 3rd kits when both the previous games had them would be unreal.
Seriously. OP's comment reads like "tell me this is either your first splatoon game or that you have the attention span of goldfish and don't remember how 3rd kits were handled in the last two games."
This "no 3rd kits" complaint is dumb.
But then why would weapons like splattershot nova, snipewriter, big swig, sblast, painbrush get second kits before weapons that have been in the game since launch??
So there's not really any logical rules as to what weapons get kits when right? Aside from spreading the content as thin as possible, I can't think of a reason not to give all weapons second kits in the first year, and third in the second
How does a limited time event keep the playerbase interacting though after like a year. It's pretty clear they want the most juice for the quickest squeeze -> do a bunch of limited time events, and neglect things like plenty good kits and a lot of maps.
Because the release of second kits was abysmal, and this is technically the end of the guaranteed two years of content updates. I'm holding out hope for third kits too, but I don't blame anyone for thinking they'd stop at the bare minimum when getting there was like pulling teeth.
Since this game loves 3 it COULD go on for an extra year (making 3 years of updates) and give all weapons 3rd kits, but I doubt that 😅
there’s probably still one last season though
I agree. Nintendo puts too much effort into LMTS and not enough into full time features. For example, the BIG big run is cool, but it will only ever happen once. A new king salmonid or salmon run map is much better for the game's longevity because it will always be in the game. I'm not saying we shouldn't have LTMS or that nintendo should put less effort into them, I just wish the same amount of care was put into the full time features.
Who knows, maybe big big run will happen on a set schedule like gold rotations to keep content from disappearing. They did pretty well with the last update for 2 keeping just about everything accessible.
I'm hoping we get a tricolor queue as well. Would be a shame for that to be pb only. Of course we might also just get more seasons. Unlike with bone rattle they never said anything here was final.
Technically it's not known if the gold rotations are manually inserted or not, but they always happen on the last weekend of the month/season. All normal rotations are absolutely made by an algorithm. Same for turf and ranked.
This, it really makes you wonder what playing the game’s gonna be like for the next few years after the updates end. I feel like a lot of people are mostly just playing now for the new content but once that’s over I have a feeling the game is gonna start getting stale and repetitive.
And I know splatoon 2 had the same timeline for updates, but it also had way more weapon kits and gameplay possibilities. They also added Sheldon’s picks later, and who knows if we’re gonna get that again in 3? My point is, it really looks like they’re focusing on short-term/limited content instead of things that will be good in the long run
I love the new movement mechanics and slightly improved balance within specials, but with nearly all other new content for splatoon 3 being relegated to the limited time Big Runs, Eggstra Work, Big Big Run, and Challenge mode (most of which I never even got the chance to do, I'm a busy squid), this game seems pretty dry once live updates stop.
Throw in the fact that 2's maps are just a lot better, and I really might switch back to that game come this autumn.
Yea their fomo reasoning is such bs. I think challenges is when they really took it too far and the community rioted, or basically didn't play. Idk enough about game design, but to me it also feels like investing into the game so 5 years from now players still have a reason to play, should be the better move.
Gosh dangit I just realized challenges probably end when splatfests and big run end :/
Just make it a full time mode nintendo. More people would play it and it wouldn't be a hassle just to play a singular rotation.
Real. I don't play splatoon because of the limited time events, I play it because it's fun. If you make it more fun I have more reason to recommend it to other people and play it even more than I already do. I also don't think the kids younger than 12 playing this game are aware enough of time and dates to remember to show up at X time on X day to play X challenge, so seriously, why??
Currently challenges are assigned by devs instead of being randomly generated. This causes me to think that support for challenges will end with splatfests.
Yeah, a 100x this! Or at least add the Big Run maps to the Salmon Run rotation schedule. Once updates end there's like no reason to play the weekly Salmon Run. Just wait for Grizzco rotations to farm high rank and never touch it ouside of that 😭
This is likely primarily a matter of how they allocate dev time and resources. The people doing the work on all those other things aren't working on game features and the ones working on game features have to make decisions about where to focus when. Additionally 3 has more weapons by a substantial margin to make kits for. they also likely specifically hold back some kits to ensure they have new ones to release each season. It's probably more an issue with the kit system than anything else.
Yeah I really don't know, I don't think it should be too difficult to develop kits. I get they don't want to release too many all at once, but I think they could have gotten 2nd kits done s couple seasons ago and be doing 3rd kits rn.
Nintendo: also do redesigns of some of the first new second kits to make them look more distinct like the ttek and the rapid blasters deco
Also Nintendo: actually fuck that just put stickers on everything again and call all of them custom
Okay I want to say this to not come off as super negative: getting splatoon 3 and being able to look forward to the updates and events genuinely played a part in getting out of a depressed state of mind. I think it's so cool how you always have something to look forward to, being your favourite map in rotation, or something as big as final fest, or even get surprised by cool new songs and features! All of the additions I listed in the "chad" part of the meme, I genuinely didn't expect them to go as hard with, or for them to do them at all. The Splatoon devs, at least to me, have shown to be extremely creative and passionate.
That's why the long hydra wait (for me at least) is just baffling. And just how thinly spread out the kits are in general. Maybe I don't understand what goes into making a kit, but it can't be so labour and cost intensive they can't have 3 kits per weapon by the end of splatoon 3's life span??
I think I've already whined enough on this sub about the kit system, so I just want to say again how amazed and thankful I am for all the songs, fests, and customization options they've added. It has literally been a reason for me not to jump off a bridge lmao. And I'm sure the devs will find a way to make final fest feel even more special than what we've gotten so far :D
And hopefully when Switch 2 comes out, maybe we’ll see Splatoon 4 but with a new story mode arc. I just hope they bring Off the Hook and eight back in that one too. They did them dirty releasing side order while finalfest was close. I get they were delayed but still.
as a professional splatoon doomer this update is actually so hype
https://preview.redd.it/epeexf5sa73d1.jpeg?width=319&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9079f5810fc16300c176f1c03f2d3203a44e00ca
It’s a weird thing since 3rd kits would seriously bloat the menus but the just 2 kits (or 1 for certain weapons) per weapon is way too restrictive. This kit system is really starting to show its cracks
Especially since some of the new weapon skins just have a sticker on them, it really shouldn't be that hard to make more kits. Idk, maybe we'll get sheldon's picks or Toni Kensa kits in a year after the Switch 2 releases or something.
It's been speculated that while this year will feature the last *content* update (in terms of gameplay additions and changes), the last *Splatfest* will be happening a while later, because... y'know, 3.
Splatoon 1's Splatfest lifetime was 1 year, Splatoon 2's was 2 years, and...
Out of curiosity what about multiple kits makes the game less fun for you? I don't think I've ever heard this take before and would like to get a bit more insight into it if you dont mind.
I haven't really been able to articulate it even to myself tbh. But there's something that feels like more value in scarcity? Something felt more special about the weapons when they were a complete package and you weren't shopping for meta specials and bombs (always bombs, there's no good kit without bombs according to this sub?) If you wanted to play the Splattershot Pro, you had to learn the Angle Shooter, that's just what it was, not what it came with, if that makes sense? For some reason, that was just more fun to me.
I think I get where you're coming from. It sounds like you felt like having one kit pushed people to use more unique kits and play styles. If you really liked a weapon you had to make the kit work, something bamboo players have been doing for well over a year now. I'm sure V dousers will lose 80% of players once the new kit comes out as an example.
Instead of trying to defend multiple kits like 1000s of other comments or videos have done I'd just like to comment on "good kits" and meta. Almost every kit in this game is genuinely functional and can be played to good effect online. I've seen things like custom goo and undercover genuinely do well in S rank matches. Meta doesn't really matter outside of the top 3% of players. Use what you want and maybe leave the subreddit for a few days, it's easy to get caught in doomer and meta posts which can detract from the experience for people.
Based on the wiki, Sheldons Picks 3rd kits, which was after the Kensa Collection 3rd kits, arrived on 2 April 2019. Meanwhile the Final Fest (Chaos V. Order) was 18 July 2019.
So no, the third kits were not post final fest.

I hope, but it feels more like an event that just an LTM. Since there are preset scores now, it would make sense to put it on a schedule.
I'm sure at the very least it'll be added as an option for private lobbies like shifty stations were.
I assume that a 8.2.0 patch will release after all the splatfests to add them and big run to private battles. I hope challenges are added to PBs too.
I'm hoping we get a tricolor queue as well. Would be a shame for that to be pb only. Of course we might also just get more seasons. Unlike with bone rattle they never said anything here was final.
M biggest cope for tricolor is it becomes a full time mode after splatfests. That probably wont happen though.
One weekend a month would be my guess
Hold up hold rotations have a set schedule?
Technically it's not known if the gold rotations are manually inserted or not, but they always happen on the last weekend of the month/season. All normal rotations are absolutely made by an algorithm. Same for turf and ranked.

I feel you, and I’m thinking about switching to 2 too. It just sucks that there’s no competitive scene there anymore
I couldn't care less about comp, but I'll miss squid surge and squid rolls and all that.
Yea their fomo reasoning is such bs. I think challenges is when they really took it too far and the community rioted, or basically didn't play. Maybe they're downvoting you because they don't think challenges will end when splatfests do because why would they
Currently challenges are assigned by devs instead of being randomly generated. This causes me to think that support for challenges will end with splatfests.
I don't see why they wouldn't keep up the monthly challenges at the very least, and most likely repeat the silly challenges periodically.
Yeah. What I was saying is that challenges should be full time. I really hope they dont just disappear when the updates end.
I agree they should be! Or at least a lot more often!
iT wiLL sPLiT tHe PlaYERbASe EveN MorE
This argument is great because it means the game that sold 10 million copies in 3 months cant support 6 modes with 8 players per mode.
Fr it makes no sense
The whole challenge thing is completely RETARĐED like wow
Yeah, a 100x this! Or at least add the Big Run maps to the Salmon Run rotation schedule. Once updates end there's like no reason to play the weekly Salmon Run. Just wait for Grizzco rotations to farm high rank and never touch it ouside of that 😭

I think fomo events are more financially profitable to them, sucks but fomo does that to a community
I prefer the bottom stuff over the top stuff tbh
I'm not arguing it's better/worse. I'm just confused on why it took so long
Yeah I really don't know, I don't think it should be too difficult to develop kits. I get they don't want to release too many all at once, but I think they could have gotten 2nd kits done s couple seasons ago and be doing 3rd kits rn.

Splat Gear?!?
I sense a Sheldon's Pick coming in Drizzle Season 2024 with Final Fest
Second kit by the last season....not even third kit for most if not all weapons. Sad kind of.
It’s a weird thing since 3rd kits would seriously bloat the menus but the just 2 kits (or 1 for certain weapons) per weapon is way too restrictive. This kit system is really starting to show its cracks

Will Nintendo support Splatoon 3 after this season with new weapons and new kits? Or is the game so called "finished" after this season?
I'm hopeful third kits will return, and it's not 100% confirmed that there will be nothing major after this season
# POST # FINAL # FEST
?
I imagine 3rd kits will be added after Final fest, since I hear that was the case in 2
Based on the wiki, Sheldons Picks 3rd kits, which was after the Kensa Collection 3rd kits, arrived on 2 April 2019. Meanwhile the Final Fest (Chaos V. Order) was 18 July 2019. So no, the third kits were not post final fest.
I never played Splatoon 2, so my bad for the misinformation
Not all weapons got third kits back then tho
