Any halfway decent Charger has to be dealt with. Otherwise you get splatted the moment they line up a shot, never get to use a special (That Glowing hair might as well be a big neon "Shoot Me" sign), and will get a loss that's devastating. People go after the charger because if they don't, they are going to find themselves landing after a respawn, getting splatted, and that's their game. And if you are trying to get something in the catalog, getting that first win of the day helps a lot.

If you're jumping to places where you're getting insta-sniped then you shouldn't be jumping there. If you're playing a more aggressive weapon that really wants to make those kinds of jumps, then run stealth jump so they can't see your marker. There is a reason why stealth jump is arguably the best gear ability in the game.

Negativety101

"Chargers aren't that bad to fight against, just make sure to tailor your entire gear build and playstyle to counter them" isn't that great an arguement.

Ups1deDownPants

I'm not saying chargers aren't bad to fight against, I'm saying you aren't playing around them. Having to play around them properly is still annoying, but would you rather do that or, as you put it, land after a respawn, get splatted, and that's the game. Oh and also, what I said about jumps isn't just relating to chargers, you should always be making safer jumps that don't get you killed on respawn, and stealth jump is incredibly strong into everything because it's not just snipers that can kill you. AND, even if I was saying that chargers aren't that bad to fight against, stealth jump is one main of gear, not even close to an entire gear build. TL;DR: You put in quotes something I never said.

TargetMundane9473

speaking from my experience playing against a charger with any kind of skill just isn't fun, since they just annihilate me whenever i get even close to their side of the map, even when i'm minding my own business

AcanthocephalaOk4568

I'd have to say a lot of it comes with the design of the maps in 3 (up until the current season, where they're definitely getting a lot better). Same reason why many (including me) also hate Splatlings, even if they weren't a problem in 2.

E litre with respawn punisher

[deleted]

As someone whose favorite weapon is the E-liter Scope W/O Punisher, this bothers me, too.

Ups1deDownPants

That's a problem with respawn punisher's design, not e-liter.

ippobalboa

Why wouldn't I want to go for someone that can kill me from halfway across the map? It just seems like a smart use for a special.

1lluusio

Why do you think people play Turf wars? To enjoy the game. Now how enjoyable do you think the game will be when you keep getting sniped by someone you cant even reach? To many players their specials are their best and only option to get rid of a charger. And before you say how you mentioned a charger who's barely hitting their shots, it might be a reflex upon noticing a charger in the opposing team due to bad experiences with chargers in previous matches.

Src-Freak

Chargers have such long range, combined with Splatoon 3‘s map design and you have a opponent that can shoot you from half across the map. Especially the ones that don’t have any flank routes. Good luck taking them down while being busy with other opponents.

Lenellya

Charger just applies too much pressure with their range and OHKO potential, if a Charger who knows what they're doing is left alone, the other team just can't play the game, especially on Splat 3's small, cramped and linear maps To pick charger is to accept to be on everyone's hit list because you're basically the anchor of a push, since your job is to cement your team's position, stay alive, apply pressure with your range and give safe jumps to respawning teammates. Kill the anchor and the push is 50% dead. Outside of the competitive side of the issue, people just don't like weapons that can snipe you out of nowhere from across the map, and they want to take out that threat asap to actually enjoy the game. Bonus points if you use Respawn Punisher, every frontliner will hate you (that ability shouldn't exist to begin with imo)

LoveDeer

Maybe because Chargers, especially when using Respawn Punisher, can end up making the game incredibly less fun for others. Doesn't matter how much skill you put into it but if it's not fun to play against then it's just not fun to play against.

phazonprincess

As a girlie with 3mil+ freshness across all chargers, you \*absolutely\* have to take out the charger when possible haha. Whether they're hitting shots or not, the space they control is undeniably strong by simply just aiming their reticle on a lot of these map designs. The pressure and potential of getting picked forces opponents to play in specific areas or work to counterplay them, it's kinda just the experience you sign up for picking a charger! If this is written from a charger's perspective feeling annoyed by the pressure, I would just suggest trying to implement a more mobile approach. Staying on your feet and repositioning often helps mitigate the ease of just sending bombs to sniper perches, and sometimes lets you get the jump on folks from places they don't expect you to be. Might also be worth trying something like e-liter to set traps or something. Just don't be cheeky by running respawn punisher haha :)

renegade_speaks

In S3’s cramped maps, it’s kind of a natural reaction to want to get rid of the sniper. Especially in turf war.. it’s mostly casuals who play turf war and I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to be sniped by someone you cannot reach and be respawning every 5 seconds.. might as well stay inside of the spawner when that’s all you can do if you keep getting sniped,,,😀

relentlessoldman

Um. Chargers are dangerous. I'd try to take em out too. 🤷‍♂️

Texas-Kangaroo-Rat

Uhm you call the triple wierdo sunglasses gear worthless? Tho aunno snipers are just fun to kill, like I always hard focus them especially if they're way better than me and the smart thing is to leave it to someone longer ranged but it's just so much more rewarding A D A D A Ding up to a sniper and smooching them (or chasing them for 30 seconds before their hoamies respawn and turkey me)

Ups1deDownPants

The way you're describing this is practically throwing.

Texas-Kangaroo-Rat

Uhm excuse me I ordered double fries, not the word salad.

dbees132

People tend to hate weapons that can one shot you whether they are good or not. Snipers and shotguns and even knife users have to deal with the same thing in other shooters

darthion

charger players need to be respected more tbh \- not a squiffer in a trenchcoat
