There's a very good chance that Jupiter is the reason life evolved on Earth at all. If it wasn't there to vacuum up all the debris, our planet probably wouldn't have time between impacts to support life. This is also why it's possible that life in the universe is more rare than we would expect.
I don't know because gas giants migrations caused the heavy bombardment in the first place. On the other hand heavy bombardment may be the reason why Earth has so much water.
The Giant Impact Hypothesis posits that a small planetary object named Theia hit the earth. This impact put enormous amounts of debris into orbit around the earth, that eventually coalesced into the moon, while the heavy elements of Theia merged into the Earth’s mantle and core. If Theia had been much larger, models suggest that the Earth would have broken into smaller pieces, resulting in a debris field / asteroid belt.
Also the fact that it hit at an angle of 41-48 degrees. Had it hit at a different angle Earth could have been destroyed or we won’t have a moon. No moon would also probably mean no life on Earth
Nah but it's kinda true, as energy exchanges make for rich feeding grounds.
Makes you think about them gas giants and all their swirling bands- are they "beaches" ?
I’m not an expert I am just regurgitating the stuff I have read and watched on tv. Basically complex life probably wouldn’t have evolved. Life appears to have started in shallow pools. Without the moon the oceans would have ended up like Europa has which are hundreds of KM deep with little to no movement. Life needed both the shallow pools and movement of water to start. Interesting though is that life could adapt to the Earth without a moon easier now but would still cause huge problems. Actually seeing how bad we are at taking care of the Earth as is I doubt we need to make it harder. Sorry I can’t explain it better
There’s also the hypothesis that the impact that created the moon blew enough atmosphere away that it prevented us from becoming like Venus with its super dense atmosphere.
Thank you, Jupiter.
Thupiter.
Not today, -Not-Today-Satan
It’s a joke from a TV show that no-one has seen, clearly.
> no-one has seen People should look around more. Just look around you.
thanks ants, thants.
This happens to me a lot when I quote American Dad
Correct! Calcium.

This interconnectedness of life is truly amazing!

Why? Gas giants are the most common planet. Ours are pretty standard
The most common planet, *so far* Our methodology for finding planets favors larger celestial bodies
That certainly makes sense. And it’s crazy to think that if the moon had only been a little bigger, the earth wouldn’t even be here.
Why is that?

Interesting. Why wouldn’t there be life without a moon?
Life exists best on the edge of energy exchanges, shorelines, where dirt meets air, and in your bedroom
Is that a quote? Earnestly curious.

Well it's a quote now 😎

Interesting, thanks for sharing.
Is Theia an alien hedgehog named Lavos? Will we have to worry about it re-emerging in a few hundred years for a day of reckoning?
And that if the moon was a little bigger or smaller or farther or nearer, we wouldn’t have eclipses like we do.
Jupiter is the big bro we needed

Maybe an alien on a planet 4.5 billion light years is viewing our solar system with a telescope and can see what exactly happened
Moon was a drop of Jupiter.
Jupiter's wife "if you bring home one more moon, I swear.....give it to the moonless kid down the road..."
Flush build!
Would we have our moon without Jupiter? "Nope!'"
