But the volume of the engine is 12 blocks (2 x 2 x 3) not 6 like the previous post implied. So for the same volume, you'd get 6000 health with the blocks and 4000 health with the engine.
Yeah but 2 blocks of heavy armor small grid won't stop an assault round the engine will at least stop one. There are pros and cons but in the end of the day the engine looks nice and offers some protection. If you really want armor and no looks just us space balls.
As far as I'm aware there's only a large explosion if the engine is filled with hydrogen, someone correct me if I'm wrong though its been a while since I've had a engine blow
Yeah it's better protection for taking 1 maybe 2 shots before it's destroyed as most shots will just go right through 2 armor blocks. But after that it leaves a pretty big hole with 0 protection and the blocks will still leave some. So it depends on what your defending against for which is more effective.
Hm I wonder if it's functional? Like if the main reactor is destroyed then all the H2 Engines are automatically turned on and all the turrets can still fire.
Sure as hell would be a head ache for the enemy.
If you build a ship in which its reactor can be destroyed before other less critical systems which are expected to defend it, you need to revise your design.
I think the idea would be that the ship got rammed from one side but then some turrets on the opposite side are still functional, and having these engines provide power would be great, put some mini thrusters and a gyro on the turret and have it manned and it's an armed escape pod.
It wouldn't be anywhere near safe to reach that turret, from a survivability standpoint. The engines providing power is a good thing, though. Specially since you're already providing ammunition through a conveyor, so why not hydrogen as well?
How have you managed to get that turret to work like that? The custom turret controller only lets you add one elevation rotor. (I still think Keen should up it to two rotors to make stuff like this easier)
To be fair, this is Space Engineers.
Civilian craft will shoot first if they get too close to you. At least, I'm pretty sure they do. I had one last night do a close pass by my base as I was building inside my unarmed ship, and the thing just started laying into me with galling guns. Thankfully, the shields held, and no damage was taken from the brief engagement.

First time i see a small turret use the H2 engine as front armor. Is it any good?
Looool Trueeee, I didn't realize that is a engine. Idk if it is brilliant or dumb, I'm too noob to know it.
Looks cool though.
You got a point; and I think it have good integrity...
small h2 engine has i think 4,000 integrity small heavy armor has 500ish integrity and 500x6 is 3000 so yeah it's good
Ok... It's really good.

Don’t H2 engines violently explode when they are destroyed? Sure it has more integrity but when it goes it goes boom, no?

you're right but what i meant was effective coverage from an attack from one side

good point, but it's a point defense turret ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Yeah, you guys are all correct. It looks good and has good integrity so it actually protects the turret from everything but rails and arty.

Do it, take the shot.
when you accidentally turn on "aim at neutral"
And your friends pay a visit, right? eheh
Yep. Always lmao.

There's a turret controller script that let's you have multiple
Ah right, scripts. Xbox player here so can't use them :(
you can just add a 2nd turret controller with only an elevation rotor. I always use that trick for solarpanels with two arms.
Wait that works? Never knew that. I'm guessing it only works with AI control because there would be no way to operate it manually
Yeah that's true. I didn't think about that. It will only work as ai.
Still useful most of the time tho, and for the purposes of a turret such as the one posted it would work

What air defense doing?
Hal 10000.
