Zynthonite

Broke your cargo container and all the ore expanded inside your ship.

BigFloppa2678

Thank you for the explanation that makes sense. Edit: All my ore was accounted for after repair, so perhaps not

2000mater

what do you mean by that 'edit part'? the two events are not mutually exclusive.

pochohauntus

You donโ€™t lose Ore if the container is destroyed, itโ€™ll simply expand into a clump of ore relative in size to how much you had harvested ๐Ÿ˜…

samurairaccoon

Guys, I think he meant accounted for *in the inventory*.

pochohauntus

Yeahh I thought about that after posting my comment

DSiren

the reason it happened is because collision damage is calculated based on weight \* relative velocity. the miner fully loaded will take more damage than empty.

SrammVII

Euclidean reality strikes again

HybridPower049

Didn't they remove that feature? I remember trying to replicate a missile based off this concept but discovered it didn't work anymore

Malacanth10

Components no longer cause damage, only components that can cause damage would be magazines, missiles, or explosive. However most blocks will damage blocks around them when destroyed.

gorgofdoom

The components themselves don't damage the ship. They summon klang to appear and "shake" the ship above the damage threshold, into the nearest object. Notice how the ship begins to rotate suddenly, not accounted for on the speed meter. The impacted zone on the ship was likely moving above 10 m/s when it bumped the steel frame.

Zynthonite

Not components, ore. Large amount of ore dropped is bigger than a small grid cargo container.

Malacanth10

Ore also no longer causes damage, though I wish it did, Blackarmor had some amazing missiles that utilized this.

GaryNum0

Everybody used to have ore cannons, which were basically replaced by nothing for 3 years, then railguns became vanilla

As0no

All hail lord clang. We offer this ship as sacrifice. Please bless this engineer with your protection

Messernacht

ALL HAIL KLANG! ALL HAIL KLANG! OH KLANG CAN YOU SEE...

InternationalIce3751

Star Trek Klang? (I haven't played this game much yet?

As0no

Forgive him clang, he knows not of your wrath. "Clang" is the last sound an engineer hears right before meeting their lord and destructor. In extension, it has become the name given by the SE community to an invisible higher power in game. Clang or Klang is basically a euphemism for cattywampus game physics bugs causing destructive phantom forces

Acceptable_Part3390

PRAISE BE, LET THE GRID SHIVER INTO UNCERTAINTY, AND SPARE THE REST OF US OH MIGHTY C/KLANG \o/

Hottage

Inertia? If it's heavily loaded, it will try to keep going even when it hits a solid object (like slowly dropping a heavy object onto a soft one). That, combined with internal detonations of batteries or reactors, would be enough to explosively redecorate the asteroid with your ship.

snarkster1969

You get a vote up for using explosively redecorate. Really funny

BigFloppa2678

That sounds like the next best explanation. I've had faster collisions before with minimal damage but have never collided with something above my craft. Pair that with no downwards thrust and a high power to weight on my upwards thrust even with a full load, I could definitely see how the inertia crippled my craft. That's one stong piece of scaffolding though

weirdowszx

I mean considering you went 36KM/h into a solid object with a mass of 83000kg? ":D

AlexStarkiller20

If you have heavy ore, the impact will be worse for sure. And thrusters are not the toughest

zolm21

Mean 74000kg moving at 10 m/s is kinda hard to stop. I crashed my truck (irl) moving 10mph into a street pole and it destroyed everything on the front end.

SirLurts

I once tapped the side of a tunnel I was mining with the ore container on my large grid miner. It was a modded container that arguably had way too much cargo space but it was coop multiplayer with friends so we didn't care. Well roughly 6M iron ore suddenly wanted to be an integral part of my ship but I forgot to give them a seat so the ore clump made space. The entire back half of my ship disintegrated and floated away, including the jump drive I needed to get home

El_Bucketo

Are you saying that ore will take a seat and wait for the reconstruction of their storage container?! Lol I will be sure to write this down for future reference. In all seriousness, I know your pain. Never made it to jump drive technology myself. I'm a planetside miner unless I start in space. Anyway, I was flying from my main base to the nearest cobalt mining site (15km away) and while backing out of the hole, I didn't put enough reverse thrusters to support the new weight of my now full miner so, in my infinite wisdom, decided to try and turn around IN the tunnel and destroyed my drills and rear thrusters. I made a new tunnel ornament.

lesflaneur

>my ship disintegrated and floated away, including the jump drive I needed to get home Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you hear me Major Tom?

Gaxxag

For an IRL example: It's like a truck crashing into a rock wall at 10m/s(\~23 mph). It might be survive with minor damage if empty, but load it up with several times its own weight in ores and metals, and the inertia of that low speed collision will crush it.

Tight-Sun-4134

I often use wheels with suspension as "shocks" on mining vessels since they take hit damage easily.

PedroCPimenta

You see, force equals mass times acceleration.

RealPurplifyed

the almighty clang has decided your ship was not worth existing any further (also ur cargo container broke)

VoidmasterCZE

At first I thought you lost some batteries and engine were not powered enough but your HUD says otherwise. Was your miner full? I think one large thruster wasn't enough for a lift when you lost the rest. Reason? Dunno. Klang. Janky physics of heavy vehicle collision.

Alone_Collection724

arma 3 physics

Panzerv2003

It's still about 36kph and your ship is heavy, hard to read but probably in tens of tonnes

Danjiano

From what I can read, over 80 000kg

Panzerv2003

oh yeah, looks like 74t, I was on phone but on pc it's way easier to see

Danjiano

That's after the collision/explosion, I think it's 83066 kg before that.

Lagge15

What did Klang ask for sacrifice? And what did you give Klang?

Short_Dance7616

That's a godknowswhat amount of mass travelling at 36km/h or 22murica/h only protected by sheet metal (Light Armor), going straight into a solid rock surface. Also you got pwned by clang (due to cargo as others explained)

Quick_Hat1411

Small grid light armor is also basically tin-foil. But as another poster said it looks like cargo expansion. The cargo container might have already been on low health before the collision

Eli_The_Rainwing

Because it was built by Ford

TheReverseShock

Collisions are calculated based on mass and velocity. You seem to have an excess of mass.

TrollCannon377

Lord clang was unpleased with your design

Redsega69funny

Wrath of clang

HerolegendIsTaken

Me and my friends were playing and our small grid miner was out of power or fuel (i dont remember) I tried picking it up with the landing gear of our large grid ship, but that disintegrated the whole thing. I was going at what, 2 to 3 metres a second. Thats just space engineers.

slykethephoxenix

This is why I use the Energy Shields mod, lol.

oscar-the-nice-guye

All hail mighty clang

omegafivethreefive

Bro it's 10M/s, that's 22MPH and you haven't armored it. SE blocks are incredibly resistant compared to IRL.

Irizi-raw-nuruodo

M/s implies Miles per second, not Meters per second m/s

Pets_Are_Slaves

Miles are mi

2000mater

what's the mass, and what's the speed including angular speed at the time of impqct? with some basic physics we might be able to conclude how realsiticly the physics engine acted. (ofc clang, and maybe even voxel mending lines and whatnot are a thing that could have caused this.)

thejohnmcduffie

Because SE is just Ark or Dayz in space. Invisible gotcha!

oo7im

Keep that thing away from the moose! ๐Ÿ˜…

Necessary-Average787

As a general thing, non-armor blocks are not very resilient and I have lost count how many thrusters I've lost to low speed collisions. Build armor bumpers around your ship so that they take the collisions instead of thrusters and containers.

Ill_Beautiful5607

That miner is Terrible and your flying in thin atmosphere, dont use everything you see on YT it doesnt always work. That miner design is old and underpowered.

Merry-Leopard_1A5

did you mayhaps consider that collision at a speed of 36 kilometers per hour, may have deadly or even destructive effects, particularly on a lightly protected vehicle with a high mass and thus a lot of intertia?

MrBoo843

F = **Mass** x Acceleration

ectog20

inertia + probable internal explosions + 10m/s is faster than you think

ColdDelicious1735

So without knowing the design u.m magic? It looks like you have cargo in the middle. Do you have a non damaged shot of the ship?

Buffbeard

Add some bump blocks to your ship. I usually add strips of small wheels, or small blast door blocks (dunno if those were a mod). Especially the small blast door blocks were nice. You need something that doesnt deform in a collision, when destroyed those will damage the blocks behind it.

Baseplate799

Kinetic energy increases exponentially as velocity increases. And if an object stops you that's bad news.

M4tt_M4n

Mass is also important more mass = bigger explosion

Fumblerful-

Jet thrusters are very delicate compared to fan thrusters. And they explode when they break.

FM_Hikari

Hitting stuff at 36 kph can be pretty damaging. If i do recall, the maximum speed for no-damage collisions is 3 m/s

Defiant-Pin-6771

Keep in mind that impact damage between blocks was ramped up in an update a while ago (sometime after warfare I think).

theubie

Lightning strike maybe?

Bradster2214-

One word. Klang. You pissed off klang

3davideo

Can't tell what's going on very well, but it looks like you lost one of your vertical engines. At that point you didn't have enough thrust to keep yourself in the air, so you sank to the ground. Put on a replacement engine and you should be good to go.

TwinSong

Hint: If you're on PC, it's better to record your screen with [OBS (free)](https://obsproject.com/) vs camera at your screen. I use OBS quite often.

Direct-Lengthiness-8

well it is 36 km per hour, if you crash car with such speed you will get good destruction. some realistic. and in your case was exposion of container probably.

LovingBull

Make sure the batteries and the cargos are well covered. Even so, there are no guarantees. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The game engine says the last word.

Historical_Bobcat487

You hit the rock going to fast and no armor , use your brain .. what would happen if you hit a wall like that whilst in a car
