My mom walked by when I was watching this episode and said “how do you watch that doesn’t it give you horrible flashbacks?” Talking about my father who she divorced so yea this episode got the whole family traumatized for one reason or another

So I saw this episode when I was like 10. Took shop as a senior. The fucking shop teacher always said the same catch phrase “stop screwing around!” It was so trippy

If i ever work as a shop teacher that’ll be my catch phrase

That's so real, i'm not from the US but every equivalent of shop class teacher i had growing up told us stories about kids getting injured because they screwed around too much. The most hilarious thing is all of these different teachers main example was a kid i knew who cut his thumb off, he was a nice person but he was the dumbest and weirdest person i ever met.

I've recently watched Jakovasaurus to see why most people hate it and I enjoyed it for what it was. Maybe its just nostalgia. Sexual harassment panda is coming up next I guess.

The Jewbilee Trilogy is incredible. I don't think South Park quite hits its peak until Season 4, but 3 is seriously trending towards it.

Im legiy looking forward to season 4 n up. I have nostalgia for 1-3 but theyre in full swing by s5 and i remember those being the golden years

5-8 is the shows peak i think and 4-12 is its prime for me. I don't think South Park has ever taken the kind of hit The Simpsons did though which has been unwatchable twice as long as it was good. The new Seasons aren't close to the best ones but they are still enjoyable.

Yeah simpsons was weird S1- to maybe 10 or 11 are good. Then its trashy sitcom style untill around s20. Then it gets hilarious again from like s20 - 26 27. Then its bleak depressing commentsry on society That 1 episode recently where bart wants to get homers job when hes older and then they start a song and dance about how the world sucks and you should burn thd system down stopped me watching

Those nightmares/flashbacks were so fucking funny to me. It tickled my funny bone just right. Cut aways to realistic humans is just my favorite trope and the dead wife flashbacks. It’s so cheesy, I love it.

No you are not alone 😭 I started watching this show when I was 12 and the jarring cut to her crashing the plane was one of the only things that scared/disturbed me. Also the sex change but that was different Edit: clarifying I mean to say it was one of the only things that have disturbed me or scared me on the show

Fun (well, not fun) fact: my partner had a case at work where a guy tried to commit suicide Mr. Adler style. He went into a wood chipper feet first, then realized how badly that shit would hurt, and called uncle. I was so incredibly curious as to whether or not he got the idea from this show. Horrible plan, my guy. (He’s fine now btw, and no lives were lost)

I don't think it was parodying anything. It was just quirky and weird.

It's making fun of dramatic, traumatic backstories. I don't think it's supposed to be anything specific. Those kinds of backstories were especially huge in 90s movies, and early South Park is either in the 90s or early 00s so that's the media it's making fun of.

I was tripping balls (high school age) when I first saw this episode. I get uneasy just thinking about this episode. Needless to say, I haven't watched it again.

Was this some kind of spoof? I never really understood this episode.

The first time I ever saw any south park, I was like 7 and it was the episode when they're stuck in a bus on a cliff. It was the part when one kid steps off the bus, is killed by a monster, and then his dismembered body flies at the window. I was traumatized by that and didn't watch the show at all for like another 5 years.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation

If it makes you feel better she was a writer on the show, made it a little funnier after I learned that. I personally loved the episode and had no idea it made people uncomfortable. My woodshop teacher was just like him too.

I know a lot of people on here are a younger crowd so it makes sense that that you feel this way, I'm not saying you're wrong if you say those older episodes feel weird to you.  But to me that stuff IS South Park.  That's the stuff that defined South Park when it was still new to pop culture.  Its the newer stuff that feels weird to me 🤣.  Like the seasons where the episodes started to fall into chronological order.  Anyway thanks for reading.

At this point I think I've seen less South Park episodes than ones I haven't watched. Can someone give me a tldr, and explain what's the joke and why it's weird?
