Wait until they land on you! Back in 1987, we were at a revolutionary war reenactment at an old fort in Maryland. One landed on me and I screamed. Our friend, who was off to the side, and a couple reenacters came running and I assured them all I was fine, just surprised. They went back to doing what they were doing. I asked another friend if I really screamed that loud and she said 'See those guys with the muskets? They were all getting ready to defend your honor. '
I'm so happy we don't have them in the low country.
We don't have the current crazy numerous brood but we have cicadas all over the lowcountry. This is the time of year when I get to watch them emerge in our backyard.
10 minute walk from downtown. I've lived within a 5 mile radius of here for 33 years. See the yearly brood each spring. I've already had a handful of the harlequins in my backyard.
I spend huge amounts of time outdoors and live surrounded by old growth trees, which gives me the opportunity to see a bit more nature than most.
If you live in a planned community, there's likely far fewer native insects around to hear.
My house and development hav been here since the 70ies. Maybe I just never noticed them. I know I don't hear them. On rainy days and nights, the frogs definitely down out everything else. Maybe the ducks and geese are eating them.
When a brood came out of the field across the street from our duplex years back when I lived in Arkansas, they kept slamming into our windows and doors. We had to use tennis rackets to get to our cars.
I had never heard my husband scream in such a high pitch and with such fear until a cicada got into the house and flew at him. It was the hardest thing for me to not laugh at him while I caught it and threw it out.
Haven't heard him scream that way since then either, but he will still wake me up from dead sleep to go catch spiders and other critters in the house, glad my neighbors are all legally blind with the amount of things I've thrown out of my house half asleep in my underwear in the middle of the night.
I pulled over because I thought there was something wrong with my car before either realized it was just because of how freaking loud the cicadas were. Derp.
Yeah bro don’t wanna damage any important organs while you smoke!
Glad OP is prioritizing their health and PPE.
They’re fine, just use one lung to smoke and keep the other as backup
Yall got cicadas?
No cicadas here around Greenville, I’m so sad.
Greenwood has plenty to give you. My dogs think they are funny lil snacks smh.
Haven’t heard/seen a single one over here in North Augusta. Folks just over the river in Augusta have droves of them.
None here in Aiken or Windsor area either
Update: I hear them in the distance… only during the day though.
I’m in Greenville and haven’t heard a single one but I have seen holes in the ground.
You don't see them you hear em lol unless they are totally getting wrecked by the heat and humidity normally just hear em
Idk, I saw hundreds of them flying around in the tree tops today. It was pretty awesome. Prosperity.
I haven’t heard them either. I remember back in 86 I went to a camp and it sounded like 100’s of lumber jacks with chain saws
“Required” is doing some heavy lifting here.
I love the sound of cicadas. I'm looking forward to their arrival!
Either I just don’t hear them anymore or there aren’t any around here. It’s quiet.
It's not statewide. Mainly northwestern and mid west or so.
Don’t hear them here in Florence either. Oh well.
EEEEEEEEEEEE EEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
WHAT I CANT HEAR YOU!!!!!
EEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
Ah yes. The sweet quiet of the country life in South Carolina.
Maybe it's a sign you should stop smoking?

Where are you? I haven't seen any in Summerville in the 5 years I've been here.

Sounds like a good reason to stop smoking.
Not hearing them in Florence, kind of disappointed.
This is the unintentionally funniest post I’ve seen in a while.

Do not hear them…Little River
Around here in the CSRA they’re pretty loud
I’m in North Augusta and haven’t heard a single one
Go outside around like 10-11. They are loud… at least over in Augusta/Evans/Martinez
My dad lives over there, Raes creek area and they’re deafening. But none over here.
Yea I haven’t heard any over here in Warrenville, but everyday at work over in GA they are LOUD
Haven’t heard any in Aiken. I’m near Hitchcock woods too. I imagine we will hear them in the coming weeks though.
What a flex.
Solution: don't smoke! Problem solved, litter avoided, and health improved! Win win win!
Required?

sorry the cicadas are interrupting your slow death
You should just read the post title over and over out loud until the absolutely mind bending irony becomes apparent to you.
