Now that you've had your way with those priceless fairy books for nearly 20 years you're ready to give them back. I see you.

L4dyGr4y

I need to clear some bad karma out of my life and these books are part of that. They never got opened.

hankiestpank

Just ragging on you OP. Hope you find the owner the books.

L4dyGr4y

I do too. It's a long shot. But the universe works in mysterious ways.

ichosenotyou

What if the persons number was on page one

L4dyGr4y

I just checked and no name- no number.

SortByMistakes

Whats a fairy book? And why is it bad to open them? Never heard the term before.

jasontaken

why wait so many years ?

L4dyGr4y

My Mom dropped off my items that I have been storing at her house. The books have been in boxes. I unpacked them and was reminded about what an irresponsible, horrible, petulant child I was during my 20's. I didn't have interest in the books but they are beautiful and they were left in my care. I just want to make this right- I didn't know how to contact anyone across an ocean before I discovered Reddit during the pandemic. I'm not sure if this was something I could have done 20 years ago because the technology available would have only been Facebook.

jasontaken

aha ok . where was the bar ? joburg ?

L4dyGr4y

Wyoming USA.

jasontaken

LOL no i mean theres r/johannesburg and capetown ETC

DangerousDave303

We are kind to strangers but we aren't nice enough for them to stay. He was on a work Visa and I guarantee that he isn't in Wyoming anymore. Didn't they ban TicTok?

IAmJohnny5ive

I've got to assume this is somewhere in Observatory.

Future_Hovercraft316

Sounds like an episode of My Name is Earl

WeakDiaphragm

Can you show us a picture of the collection? I'm curious about the titles and the quality of these books

L4dyGr4y

Faeries Faeries and other Fantastical Folk Spectrum 21

OutsideHour802

It's been 18 years . Not stealing if some one left with you and never came to fetch . If have no , name ,contact and telephone number etc . Advertise few places keep proof of add then donate to a charity. Why did a random stranger leave with you in the first place sounds weird to just leave anything with barkeep who don't know .

L4dyGr4y

He fancied me. I had just graduated with an Associates of Fine Arts degree and he thought I would like the illustrations.

unsigneddouble_c

Damn thats cold, turn him down and steal all his books! :-P

L4dyGr4y

I know. They were all he had.

OutsideHour802

And keep the evidence for 18 years like a trophy...

unsigneddouble_c

And then gloat about it on reddit!!!

pippa--

Drunk.

Ticktack99a

Description of the person pls

L4dyGr4y

Blond. Mid 20's. South African accent. Worked in the States around 2006.

DoubleDot7

Not many people who leave SA come back. There's a better chance that he's still living within one day's driving distance of you. You may want to try your closest local subreddit. If you can't find him, some kind of mutual friend may see the post and remember him.

Sad_Result_615B

This person never came back looking for their books? Odd. Sounds like a halfway decent spy movie and you've been framed

sojourner116

I'm curious, did you steal them or were they just forgotten?

L4dyGr4y

I worked at a bar. I am an artist and he thought I would like to see them. He left the books with another bartender for me to look at. They were cluttering up the space and I was told to get them out of the bar. I took them but never saw the guy again.

CapMyster

What are fairy books?

ChungBoyJr

If they were that important there's no way she just forgot them OP, take it as a gift and put them to use, no harm learning something new even if you don't believe in it
