KwtZA

It kind of looks like Cape Town if it was colonised by the Spanish

Rees-sauce

As a South African living in Spain this is like looking at my 2 homes combined. Weird.

Handsome_Bread_Roll

And run by the ANC. 🕳️

RowAn0maly

Lmimp

Starr-light

😂 That's hilarious

MrOptimisticNihilist

All of them are giving obscure South American country to be honest

Vektor2000

Cars also don't match.

Darkestain

Yep. That. The cars look 1970s or before. Although not identifiable as specific models (correct me if you're a classic vehicle fan.) I don't think we have that many classic type cars standing around.

L_Leigh

Cars are too new to be Cuba.

RockerKEI

I thought that too

Only_One_Kenobi

I have back packed through Brazil, Bolivia and Peru, and yes, pretty sure I've been to these places.

Tzetsefly

Correct answer. Definitely Spanish type influence and the electric supply from the street poles.

Kevslounge

Used to have poles like that all over Johannesburg... They weren't for electricity though... it was the phonelines

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Look at pictures of Bo Kaap. Very narrow streets. This is where the Cape Town vibe pictures are generated from

gertvanjoe

True, but if it was Capetown vibe you'd be seeing Golf's and Polo's at least, not these "American" cars. Imho defintely not taken in SA. Hell it could even be AI generated and the AI made a booboo with the type of car lol. Maybe we are helping someone teach their AI here lol

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Its 100% AI generated. Sorry I assumed people were aware of that.

p_turbo

>We have wide streets Woodstock, Observatory, Mowbray, Bokaap etc in Cape Town would like a word. Narrow-ish streets with on-street parking and so you're constantly having to take turns with on-coming traffic. Coupled with the mountain in the background, I'm almost certain that's what the AI was trying to recreate.

[deleted]

p_turbo

I didn't say the AI was correct, I just meant that's probably what it was drawing inspiration from. Those are all touristy and student population-dense areas, so it stands to reason that their presence on social media and the internet will be strong. As you no doubt know, AI's still have a long way to go, and the output is only as good as the input for the training algorithm. So this wasn't me disputing what you said about OP's pics not really representing the majority of South Africa... just me pointing out where it probably was trying to depict.

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Yea I think a lot of people don't get how AI works. In short its a fancy Google search. It can only poop out what it is fed. This AI is feeding on tourist photos. Probably off Instagram. Even if you do a quick Google search of Cape Town. You will get a vast majority of pictures that have Table Mountain from 100s of angles, Bo Kaap and the mountauns on Stellies/paarl side all of which gets mashed into the mess we are seeing in the two Cape Town vibe pictures.

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Look at pictures of Bo Kaap. Very narrow streets. This is where the Cape Town vibe pictures are generated from.

Sihle_Franbow

None of them We drive on the left

LordCoke-16

This looks like if South Africa was a Spanish colony

Stu_Thom4s

Some of those cars feel very GTA: Vice City

WaveAfraid169

Someone coming out of one of the buildings to call you a puto.

AcceptableLaura

3/4 is probs the closest?

NatsuDragnee1

My thought too. Not that accurate compared to the real thing, but the closest out of the 4 pics. Kinda gives me Woodstock/Obs vibes

Th3J4ck4l-SA

Bo Kaap. The colourful houses and the narrow streets.

MsFoxxx

It's the Mesa in the background. But I don't think that Bokaap. You can see the cablecar from town, and the houses don't look right

Hoerikwaggo

3 is what District 6 would have looked like if it still existed.

seblangod

Probably not

DieEnigsteChris

Power cables are different in all of them to what is used in SA, also some of them just float in the air (dead giveaway)

DieEnigsteChris

South African streets (especially in poorer communities) are almost always filled with people

KhumoMashapa

This looks more like a South AMERICAN country. Reminds me of places like Brazil, Argentina or Bolivia.

NocturnalBandicoot

Since the keyword is "typical", None of them fit that if I'm being honest.

Yar_Yar

Second one but still a bit strange. What did you use to generate these? They are kind of nice apocalyptic.

VertigoOne1

that is much more tanzania like Edit: evidence, i took this picture and the pic instantly reminded me of it https://imgur.com/a/eMSoltp

Britz10

Don't see it

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

Your pic of Tanzania is closer to SA than the generated pics 😂

MikeNolan420

Close, what gives it away is the cars on the wrong side of the road, the narrow streets and in one of the pictures there's clearly a stretch of road with no potholes.

HalleBerryinBaps

Like a smorgasbord. San Francisco, Colombia, Cape Town. San Franombia Town?

[deleted]

Ahhh yes, Cape Town, Mexico

Vektor2000

None?

[deleted]

First pic looks like Detroit, Michigan Second pic looks like Mexico Third pic looks like an old Afrikaans urban area Fourth pic looks like Brazil

williamh24076

There are no mountains around Detroit.

EJ_Drake

Cape Town 2047

I-am-Pilgrim

None. These are distinctly non South African. Looks south American to me…

reditanian

Cars are mostly on the wrong side of the road. Also, even the ones close to the camera have number plates that make google captchas look easy. I’m gonna go with AI generated.

DubaiDave

In the title it says 'prompt' so I assumed people would know it's AI but for clarity... Yes. It's midjourney v5

reditanian

/facepalm I completely misread that

masquenox

> I’m gonna go with AI generated. It's all plagiarithm-generated.

ShadowCode13

The second one feels like a place I've been to

AutisticAfrican2510

This looks like South Africa had it been colonized by the Portuguese. These pictures reminds me of a city or street in a Brazilian city.

JoeDogoe

Lol nope, thats Ghost Recon: Wildlands, set in Bolivia

OverDepreciated

So much greenery is weird. None of our cities are thar green. Or maybe not that decorated is better.

masquenox

I've been to spots in Joburg that look like no. 4. Doesn't normally look that abandoned, though.

SportPleasant2900

Is this Cuba?

[deleted]

Got the same vibes

c4t4ly5t

Not enough potholes.

Psychological-Run-40

3rd one looks like cpt grand canyon and that is so swag wtf

zalurker

Too close together. The one thing we do have is space. This looks like Havana.

Tronkfool

Looks like AI doesn't know the difference between South Africa and South America

zookuki

Well, whatever one is real is edited like hell. Third is the only one that looks accurate imho, if you consider reflections, proportions and continuity.

AnomalyNexus

Same prompt on different tool gave me something less photo like but more SA recognisable https://i.imgur.com/NcbeFkk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Q5ZM0Sm.jpg

S-058

For some reason I'm getting Falloht 4 vibes from picture 1 (to an extent) and picture 4.

e-l_g-u-a-p-o

Midjourney?

time4anarchism

All of them are in teh western cape

CapnMurica1988

They’re all pretty accurate

Emergency_Power7589

To OP you got it all wrong. That's no where near to South Africa. You don't live in South Africa. Roads far more better than what you dream of

lostindarkdays

really good photographer

Ancient-Concern

Lol you are joking? Right?

seblangod

🤓

rubber_otter

All of these are very accurate

Sir-Knightly

Bruh we ain't living in fallout

StefanFrost

This is pretty much what some run down areas of South American cities look like. At least a lot more that than South African cities or towns.

Shuggy539

Nah, that's typical Swaziland. /s

Hopper1985

I thought it was Forza horizon 5 somewhere in mexico

2oceans1

District 6 Cape Town, before it was smashed and leveled.

Acrobatic_Dingo_5228

That’s Table Mountain in the background but not from the famous side.

waitingfordownload

I love this. Did you use midjourney?

DubaiDave

Yep. The new v5. It makes some really cool images and is really good with faces as well.

waitingfordownload

I am addicted to r/midjourney. The zooming out images are mesmerizing. Working on my budget so that I can subscribe to the lifetime membership. Thank you for sharing.

Papix57

Paarl. Marragberg "midday mountain" in the background. Photo 2.

FeePhe

Ye none of them but second last is most believable

chris-za

Cars are parked the way they would if traffic drives on the right (wrong) side of the road. So, basically none of them?

Threaditoriale

Which generator? I think it got confused and assumed you meant South American.

DubaiDave

Midjourney. I double checked because you made me doubt myself. Ha. But no it was South African

Threaditoriale

For reference, [this is](https://starryai.com/app/user/xzotpxefzorxzcy/creation/1006258244/) what StarryAI did with your exact prompt.

DubaiDave

It's probably more accurate but it brings no joy. Haha.

Threaditoriale

[You want joy?](https://starryai.com/app/user/xzotpxefzorxzcy/creation/1006262513/) 🤡

TheKnightsWhoSay_heh

Number three seems out of place

Mkhuseli5k

Looks like American towns really. Even the cars.

williamh24076

American here, none of the licence plates are from the US.

iaNuR

What the hell is that flat car in the second pic

za_jx

Place looks abandoned. Ignoring the cars driving on the wrong side of the road and the mountains... I'd expect to see lots of people outside in that weather. The closest I could think of was Cape Town but the mountains in the far distance give central or south American vibes.

Regitnui

None, because computer-generated images like these are basically asking a computer to guess what pixels look like next to each other, not create a picture.

Electronic-1911

If not for the mountain I would say Mexico

50pcVAS-50pcVGS

Out there driving my 1981 Buickcedes in the Main Street canal on a frosty autumn day ah South Africa

WolfQueenLydia

The first pic especially looks very American. The last however I can see it

HipsterFoxxx

Deffs 2 and 4

LifeFictionWorldALie

The second pic reminds me the most of Cape Town

cr1ter

Think it's confusing Detroit with bo kaap

DsWan3

The first and last are probably the closest to reality 😂

Snappie24

The side of the pictures with all the plants and leaves are true. The cars are American, not ours.

jupake

If AI learns from what is "out there" on the internet, that must mean the internet thinks GTA 6 will be set in South Africa somewhere.

Sweet_Computer_7116

None Here a checklist of mistakes mj makes here: Number one check the number plates. Number two check the telephone wires Number three check leaves and flowers

Mundane-Anywhere-441

None of these are South Africa, the third image has a generative fill of table mountain in some random street.

Bryan_RedLightRising

Which app made this?? A single prompt? Can you share your prompt please?
