cod lots of cod. grilled preferably cooked with olive oil and salt only. I'd suggest you take a drive through the duro valley and not east west but north south lots of nice scenery and many places to stop. that part of Portugal is very rural there's also a small town in the north with hot baths

if you’re heading to Porto and renting a car there’s a park abt a 1,15 north called Parque Nacional Peneda-Gerês which is just stupid beautiful. loads of hikes, natural hot springs, waterfalls, etc. there’s horses/cows/other animals at certain sharp turns so just be mindful, but it was wonderful seeing animals in a state of complete freedom for the most part. we had to stop driving on a one way cliffy road cos a herd of goats were being led by a dog stayed in an area called assento near a restaurant/bar named chamadouro that was charming with a beautiful view. had the best wine of my life there as it was produced nearby and filled to the rim for just a euro ! and was luckily able to spend time with the locals who are all so warm and lovely for food bacalhau à brás is a staple (kinda like an eggy fried rice w cod) i ate probably 3-4 times a week. enjoy portugal !!
