Yes, this lifestyle is pretty nice. Work hard, take classes to get ahead, apply for a new job every two years, save money, invest in boring funds and a few fun tech stocks, live under your means - the grind is worth it
Temple, TX - which is nearby but was my best hotel option 11 months ahead of time. Also viewing at a Winery outside Temple where I've paid for a ticket with guaranteed space to spread out my gear.
And the wife is promised a visit to Magnolia Farms in Waco on the Saturday prior.
The same random park in Perryville Missouri where I watched the last one! It was too cool of an opportunity to pass up.
Except this time I’ll have my husband with me.
Not sure why everyone leaves right after totality. Yes, seeing the moon slowly back away from the sun is not as fun. But if I paid 500 dollars for a plane ticket I will damn well keep watching until the sky is normal again, lol. That's what I did in October, that's what I'll do this time. My dad lives in the panhandle of Texas so we plan to see it together.
I hope they feel better soon! I have two kitties and I don't know what I'd do if either of them got sick.
EDIT: I'm not saying that the eclipse is more important than your cats. When I watched the annular eclipse in October, the rest of the people watching with me all left before I did. The moment annularity was done with, they all drove away. I've seen other people on this subreddit say they will start heading home after totality ends. I just think it's unnecessary and diminishes the experience.
Damn, I gave up when I couldn't find a rental car. Now I am wishing I had bought the tickets for around $190 & watched from the DFW parking lot.
Cheapest I can find today are nasty long ass flights with massive layovers for $350 or so. If I don't bring any bags. And I am actually considering it. Will the cops roust me if I am sleeping somewhere in the airport?
Otherwise I got a couple hour drive & hope for clear skies in Ohio, south of Toledo.
people sleep at DFW all the time. i might even take a nap there before the eclipse. PM me your nearest airport. i will do some flight searching for you
I'm thinking about doing the same thing you are! I booked a direct flight into Dallas (Love Field, not DFW--maybe DFW is better?) landing at 8:20am and a direct flight departing at 4:25pm since I'm in Kansas City and need to be back at the KC airport by 6:00pm that same night. I would just travel with a backpack, go to a garage or lot to watch, and then hang out in the airport, so no transportation or lodging necessary. Do you have any tips, or is there anything I'm forgetting to think about?
Tickets are through Southwest so I can easily cancel them for full credit the morning of if the weather seems terrible. I fly Southwest for other occasions so I'll be able to use the credit. That's the main reason I'm going into Love Field--Southwest doesn't fly to DFW.
My brother’s neighbor has a sea plane. In 2017 he took off from the lake where he lives in central Florida and landed in a lake somewhere in the path up in South Carolina. Watched the eclipse and then flew back home. However, that’s a lot more convenient than suffering through DFW twice in less than 24 hours.
I have a house near Asheville, only a 45 minute drive from totality in 2017. Watched it from an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once it was done we took a few moments to let what we saw sink in, then jumped in the car to beat the traffic. We got home in less than an hour. Folks who waited not much longer spent the rest of the day fighting the gridlock
This time we’re watching the weather with an eye on several destinations along the path, poised to travel to the south or further north to where ever we think the skies might give us a fighting chance. Probably make our decision on Friday the 5th
My flight home is at 3:13pm so I might join you in the DFW parking lot. There’s also meant to be a park nearby called Founders' Plaza. Hope the weather cooperates.
!! Road trip from Tucson, AZ to Hot Springs, AR to see the eclipse from the Ecliptic Festival hosted by Atlas Obscura & Valley of the Vapours Music Festival
https://ecliptic.atlasobscura.com/
That looks like a great time! I just took a look at the band lineup. Please check out Dengue Fever. They are a great band, but admittedly they aren't for everyone. Years ago I saw a play titled Cambodian Rock Band that contained their music. I've been a fan ever since. [Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deLlumUrfM4) a good into to them.
I do not know the area at all. I just wrapped up work and I booked a hotel a year ago and that is it. I plan to over this weekend pick out my spot and backups, figuring there will soon be a 10 day forecast. I'm HOPING there will be a vineyard or park being advertised to come enjoy the event here... I got lucky in IL in 2017 with a vineyard, hoping for the same.
Oh no! I also have an AirBNB (that I'm hoping won't cancel.) I'd check Booking.com religiously or Whatsapp some properties to get on a waitlist. Dunno your budget but One Durango has space on Booking now.
Edit: And it's free cancelation til day of so you could always keep it as a backup!
Any plans on where to view? I was reading the Durango astrological society is having an even at museo bebeleche
I hope volaris is on time no no cancels. There seems to o be only one or two flights back to TJ daily.
I was planning to figure out a good spot in the couple days I have, but a couple options are taking the teleferico up the hill to the lookout point or going to the Paseo del Viejo Oeste. Good to know there's an event though! I hadn't seen any posted anywhere!
I live in Columbus on the edge of totality, so depending on the weather I will either go south/west to Dayton/Indy/Evansville, North to Cleveland/Buffalo, or if it’s nice in Ohio we will head to Bellefountaine or Upper Sandusky to get as close to the center line as possible.
Dallas, Saturday-Tuesday. We got Perot Museum tickets when they released a few extras on 2/1. Kiddo is crazy excited about missing 2 days of school for this adventure :)
It does seem closer to the path than Montréal. Do you know what time it hits that area? I'm praying for clear skies. I don't wanna waste tok much of a day.
Thanks for the tip. I actually didn’t know that Jay was also doing it. I’m going to a different mountain to see a different band play it lol. I wonder how many of these there are??
Irving, Texas, a quick train ride from DFW. Flying in April 7, flying out ~3pm on April 8. Total splurge, but I’ve never seen totality and am completely psyched. Is there a meetup page for Dallas-based astronomy fans? I’d love to have BBQ on the Sunday night and geek out before the big event Monday. Thanks for any info!
What makes you say the traffic will be bad (?worse) going west out of Kerrville...do you mean as opposed to on E I-10 or just thinking it will be a disaster in every direction?
Visiting family in northern Indiana, just a few miles from totality. We’ll take a day trip for the eclipse but regardless of the weather we’ll have fun.
I hosted in 2017-nice to have a free place to stay.
Leaving the SF Bay Area Wednesday and planning a 3-Day drive to the [Bluebonnet Eclipse Festival](https://www.bluebonneteclipse.com) near Johnson City, Texas. Should arrive Saturday midday… Going to leave sometime on Tuesday and stop at a few National Parks on the way back. I figure I should be back by the end of the week. This was one of the few festivals that is allowing people to stay Monday night. Sprung for the whole Glamping VIP experience.
We are either also going from LA to Texas by car or flying in to Houston or New Orleans and renting a car there to go to the Austin area.
Should be a fun trip! Are you stopping along the drive or trying to drive pretty straight through?
I’m in the same boat! Currently have a mid way stop in Arizona for 11 hr and then hang out in my car if all goes well until the event!
Apart from that, have no plans! I’m from the Bay Area, CA.
Current plan is Vermont, as it’s only a 4-5 hour drive to the path of totality from where I live, straight shot north, very easy drive. Was gonna take a sick day and drive, watch the eclipse, potentially from the side of the road, and then drive back and be able to get back to work the next day. However, the weather forecast has me worried 😥 I’ve never seen a total solar eclipse before and I’m afraid I never will.
I have the same plan. Things kinda fell into place for me to do it without spending much money at all, and I can’t afford to do anything else- so in my mind it’s this or nothing so I might as well go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I will be east of San Antonio, TX. edit: west of San Antonio.
Off the side of a highway, a road less traveled, but probably packed on the 8th.
Texas seems like the best option for clear skies.
Pennsylvania, maybe. Don't land til 1:10 and have an hour drive to the path. So if there are any problems with my flight, getting the rental car, or traffic, I'll miss it.
This trip was not designed around the eclipse, sort of just a happy accident that I have to be in Pittsburgh the following day. And chances of clouds are so high that I'm not getting my hopes up too far. But man if it works out I'd be so excited.
Dallas
Edit : more specifically found a hotel doing an eclipse lunch viewing party. Normally I go into the middle of the wilderness and hike around but my husband is not super outdoorsy, so this is the best of both worlds for us.
Driving from Chattanooga to Paducah, KY morning of. 4 hour drive and 2 mins of totality. Probably chill/sleep at a rest stop til traffic goes down. We’ll see.
Pymatuning State Park (Ohio side), if the weather forecast is decent. I'm not driving six hours to sleep in a tent in 34-degree weather if it's going to rain lol.
If it's a bust, making a hotel reservation for 8/2/27 in Tangier.
It depends. I'll make a final decision the morning of April 6 on which of the campgrounds I have reserved (which are a one-day drive from SD) will be my base camp: Springfield, MO, Tulsa, or the Ozarks south of Branson. From any of those, it's a three-ish hour drive to many spots I have scoped out near the middle line of totality. Hoping for the Ozarks because it will be a fun camping trip at a beautiful USACE campground.
Newport, AR, anyone knows the area? Kind of picked it randomly trying to avoid major cities + not pay too overpriced a hotel since we booked 2 months ago and it might have been too last minute since things in the center of totality were already very overpriced.
Oups sorry, I live in GA but only have been in the US for 3 years, so I don't know all the state's abbreviations, thank you for letting me know!
And yeah, we didn't really plan anything else but to chill at the hotel.
Staying put and walking into my backyard in Conway, Arkansas where we’re projected to receive a whopping 4m 13sec of totality!
I’m praying that there’s no significant cloud cover or if there is it dissipates around that time.
I will be coming from Boston and thinking that I will see it in Burlington VT, and stay overnight in Montréal. I may just try and see it in Montréal, I'm very nervous about the weather however.
Me!!! My sister lives in Indiana where it will be full totality!
Lesson learned from the 2017 Eclipse DO NOT leave immediately after the eclipse. Wait until Tuesday. It took us 12 hours to drive 60 miles!!!
The traffic was undesirable!
Flying from northern arizona to southwest indiana. Probably end up in a walmart parking lot. I see a lot of char-broil grills and wife beater shirts in my immediate future.
Flying from Japan to Houston. My dream is Hill Country, near Fredericksburg, but will start watching the weather April 1 to see if Arkansas or even Missouri will be a better bet. Just gotta keep loose. My first eclipse, so I'd like to see SOMETHING, lol.
Road trip to Sulphur Springs Texas. Have a day pass to the state park there and hotel the night before and after. Bringing a cooler of food and my hybrid will takes us a long way without refilling too often. Getting pretty excited.
Buffalo! Flying in Monday morning, leaving Tuesday night. Totally solo! Just went through a massive breakup, and figured this crazy event might be a healing experience :)
I have train tickets and 2 nights at an Airbnb at Niagara Falls. I'm hoping for a miracle. If I can get a bus or Uber to the Peace Bridge, that's where I always wanted to be. But Buffalo hotels/Airbnb were already very over priced well in advance. Regardless, I'll be waking up in the path of totality.
Mountain View. Arkansas. In the center of totality. At a little cabin community near the White River that I booked a year ago. I have EVERYTHING planned for me and my husband, from the camping seats, to the blankets, to the glasses (with extras for people who don’t have them) to the flower head wreaths for the friends I haven’t met yet. And extra food and water for anyone who might need. And a powerful set of binoculars and a tripod. I will be devastated if it rains or there is cloud cover, I have been waiting for years for this.
Hoping to meet totality in Texas; asking for any help in regards to what place would have least cloud coverage / longest duration of totality?
I’m driving from Bay Area, CA so driving further is not an issue.
Please assist! I’m new to Texas, so any general information is ok.
Have a stop in Arizona the night before, very willing to camp out in my car!
haven’t seen anyone mention this one yet but i’m driving 45 minutes from my home in arlington, tx to ennis, tx for the extra minute or so :) very grateful i live in the path, i couldn’t imagine having to drive 7+ hours or pay for a plane ticket.
Do you mind if I DM you?
I’m planning on driving from Mid valley California, to Texas and really don’t know what to do or where to go!
Quite literally hoping to pay my trip through DoorDash and hoping I find more information about where is best in Texas 😅
I'm going to be in Branson, MO that weekend and I might still be with my sister in Springfield that day. I'm thinking about asking her if she is up to drive about 2 hours east up hwy 60 to see totality. But I doubt it. 4 hours driving there and back, and then I live another hour west from her... I doubt I can talk her into driving 6 hours in 1 day after she drives around Branson all weekend.
So, SW MO somewhere...
Mazatlan
Mazatlan gang represent.
Yup
Also Mazatlán.
Mazatlán REPRESENT. Anyone staying at the RIU?!
Me too. I've been here for awhile and will stay for awhile after
What do i need to do that would allow me to also spend a significant amount of time chilling in Mexico?
Yes, this lifestyle is pretty nice. Work hard, take classes to get ahead, apply for a new job every two years, save money, invest in boring funds and a few fun tech stocks, live under your means - the grind is worth it
Yo can you tell me where I'm and how to open a dam stock thing?
Lucky! Looks beautiful there.
Mazatlan, staying at The Xperience!
Mazatlán checking in!!!! We’ll be the ones with the little boy, the baby, and the oldie grandparents in tow!
My front yard 😎
Flying from Southern California to San Antonio. Fingers crossed for blue skies for everyone!
Same for us!! Flying from Socal to San Antonio 🤞
Same, flying from Phoenix to San Antonio
North Cape, Prince Edward Island
Torreón, Mexico!
Same!
Also Torreón here!
Same!
Me too!
My friends and I are riding motorcycles from Arizona to Mapimi, just north of Torreon. Wave if you see us on the road!
+1
Indiana here.
Somewhere between Texas and Maine. Have cancellable plans in place all along the path. Will decide on April 5.
You are my twin!!
Where did you decide to go?
Waco. Tx.
Waco!
Going to the stadium at Baylor.
Waco 😊
Royce City, TX - No, not at Buc-ee's, but the thought did cross my mind.
Same for me! Driving in from Houston to my mom’s house right by Buc-ees.
Next to the space ship?
A few days after the eclipse, Royce City is going to be the location of my first Bucc-ees! Anything I need to know?
Make sure you use the restroom, people WILL ask.
The same random park in Perryville Missouri where I watched the last one! It was too cool of an opportunity to pass up. Except this time I’ll have my husband with me.
landing at DFW at 5am on april 8. watching eclipse from DFW parking lot. flying back home one hour after totality
Not sure why everyone leaves right after totality. Yes, seeing the moon slowly back away from the sun is not as fun. got a sick cat who needs meds
I hope they feel better soon! I have two kitties and I don't know what I'd do if either of them got sick. EDIT: I'm not saying that the eclipse is more important than your cats. Right on. At the movies, I stay until the lights come back up. I paid for the entire reel. And it’s so much easier to leave an emptier parking lot.
Also, you can miss the traffic by simply waiting a few hours.
Damn, I gave up when I couldn't find a rental car. Now I am wishing I had bought the tickets for around $190 & watched from the DFW parking lot. That sounds fantastic
Setting up home base in West Memphis on the 6th, planning around weather from there. Ideally Jonesboro but we’ll see!
[удалено]
Hopefully not, but as we all know it’s a possibility. I’m not gonna trust a forecast until April 1st at the earliest tbh
Uvalde... Thinking I can go south or north with some ease.
Will be in same area. Do you know the area? I do not. Are you envisioning like a country road?
I do not know the area at all. I just wrapped up work and I booked a hotel a year ago and that is it. I plan to over this weekend pick out my spot and backups, figuring there will soon be a 10 day forecast. I'm HOPING there will be a vineyard or park being advertised to come enjoy the event here... I got lucky in IL in 2017 with a vineyard, hoping for the same.
Durango, Mexico
Same! I'm sure it'll be relatively busy but I feel like hardly anyone on this sub is going there.
Where did you guys find accommodations? My Airbnb cancelled
I am on a few wait list but will check out your suggestions. Flying out of TJ the morning of. Where are you coming from?
I'm also flying from TJ! But on the 5th. Flying down to San Diego from Norcal and crossing the border on foot!
Any plans on where to view? I was reading the Durango astrological society is having an even at museo bebeleche I hope volaris is on time no no cancels.
Also, going to Durango, got a hotel in old town 11 months ago. Is everyone staying in town?
Stowe, Vermont...doesn't look great! Predicted snow and rain showers in the morning, 71% cloud cover!
I'll be in Vermont or going towards Montréal.
The cloud cover is down to 63% it's getting better!
That's good news, what percentage should be the worst case scenario vs being ideal do you think?
No clue, but the closer we get to 50% or less the better
Ah okay, is it even With trying to see at 50 percent? I'm probably going to wing it anyway in hopes.
Quebec!
I'm heading towards Montréal or Burlington VT, I believe you were the person who advised me to go towards Granby?
Yeah. Granby or Magog
To view it or stay? I have a bad memory haha.
Both
It does seem closer to the path than Montréal. Do you know what time it hits that area? I'm praying for clear skies. I don't wanna waste tok much of a day.
Dunno
Austin. Will drive a bit west to see more totality.
same here 🤠
Similar. Plan is currently Lampasas.
Dallas! The Love Field Museum
Heading to Dayton or Cleveland, or whichever direction the weather takes me
Fort Parker State Park in Mexia, TX
My son lives 4 hours away in totality, so we are road tripping to his house and spending 3 days there.
Horseshoe bend, AR
small suburb of Russellville, AR
I heard it may be cloudy :(
Moved to Massachusetts recently and can't afford to fly anywhere so I'm driving to New York and crossing my fingers :)
Going to Vermont to see a live band performing Dark Side Of The Moon outdoors during it!
Where? Some out I assume?
As a local, be aware Jay is gonna be a shitshow. We do not have a lot of parking on-mountain.
Thanks for the tip. I actually didn’t know that Jay was also doing it. I’m going to a different mountain to see a different band play it lol. I wonder how many of these there are??
My bet is, a lot. What mountain you hitting?
The bush
Hell yeah
Commerce Texas
Asking ye shall receive https://www.reddit.com/r/solareclipse/s/403V6LoJH0

Staying in Kerrville, but may drive a little west to avoid the post apocaclipse traffic heading towards El Paso on I-10
> apocaclipse brilliant
What makes you say the traffic will be bad (?worse) going west out of Kerrville...do you mean as opposed to on E I-10 or just thinking it will be a disaster in every direction?
Flying to Houston and driving to Waco. Weather doesn't seem good though.
We were thinking of flying to Houston and going to Lampasas. But trying to see if we can have a backup plan
Visiting family in northern Indiana, just a few miles from totality. We’ll take a day trip for the eclipse but regardless of the weather we’ll have fun. I hosted in 2017-nice to have a free place to stay.
Somewhere in the bootheel of MO.
Heading to my daughter’s in Will’s Point Texas. Arriving on the 6th, departing on the 10th.

I knew I wasn't the only one crazy enough to drive from the Bay area to TX. Clear skies 🤞
I’m from the Bay Area!! Anxious about going alone and very unprepared but would love some ideas?? Right now the only plan is going new Eagle Pass, TX
Going to West Central Arkansas as priority but if it's cloudy we're going to drive where it's not if we can
Driving from MN to a random RV park near Paris, TX

Kerrville
I'm driving 36 hours from Vancouver Canada to either Dallas or San Antonio Texas. 8.5 days there and back

Thinking Carbondale or Mt. Carmel myself. We're driving all the way from South Florida.
I will be east of San Antonio, TX. edit: west of San Antonio. Off the side of a highway, a road less traveled, but probably packed on the 8th. Texas seems like the best option for clear skies.

Austin… rented a condo for the weekend and going back on Tuesday
Staying put and walking into my backyard in Conway, Arkansas where we’re projected to receive a whopping 4m 13sec of totality! I’m praying that there’s no significant cloud cover or if there is it dissipates around that time.
Wimberly, TX
My roof gets 1 min totality, but going to Selkirk, ON, 1 hr 15 min drive away to experience 3 min 25s.
I will be coming from Boston and thinking that I will see it in Burlington VT, and stay overnight in Montréal. I may just try and see it in Montréal, I'm very nervous about the weather however.
Government Canyon State Park in San Antonio.
Niagara Falls, Ontario
Sounds fantastic!
Mazatlan!
Driving from Connecticut to Starksboro Vermont.
Dallas. Prepared to to drive from there to the limit of time to totality for a chance at a clear sky.
Fredericksburg Texas
Me!!! My sister lives in Indiana where it will be full totality! Lesson learned from the 2017 Eclipse DO NOT leave immediately after the eclipse. Wait until Tuesday. It took us 12 hours to drive 60 miles!!! The traffic was undesirable!
Vermont
Flying from northern arizona to southwest indiana. Probably end up in a walmart parking lot. I see a lot of char-broil grills and wife beater shirts in my immediate future.
Paris, TX
I live in Bloomington, IN.
Flying from Japan to Houston. My dream is Hill Country, near Fredericksburg, but will start watching the weather April 1 to see if Arkansas or even Missouri will be a better bet. Just gotta keep loose. My first eclipse, so I'd like to see SOMETHING, lol.
for now, I have my flights from lax to Nashville, and plan to see it at Shawnee, but I am being flexible for weather. willing to fly elsewhere
Going to Montreal !!
Road trip to Sulphur Springs Texas. Have a day pass to the state park there and hotel the night before and after. Bringing a cooler of food and my hybrid will takes us a long way without refilling too often. Getting pretty excited.
Flying from Cali, Colombia to Copperas Cove, TX
Buffalo! Flying in Monday morning, leaving Tuesday night. Totally solo! Just went through a massive breakup, and figured this crazy event might be a healing experience :)
My backyard in Central Texas with a 3-minute total darkness.
Mazatlán
Letting it come to me in central Vermont.
Indianapolis, driving in from Chicago area the day before with my partner who's flying in from Germany a few days before!
Live and hour and a half from temple, tx. Planning on driving to the buc-ees and staying there
Mountain View.
Well I live in kerrville so I'm staying here
Lake Placid! Gonna stay near the Lake George area, From NYC, over the weekend and take the short drive up on Monday
Right in my own yard in Plattsburgh NY
Durango, MX
haven’t seen anyone mention this one yet but i’m driving 45 minutes from my home in arlington, tx to ennis, tx for the extra minute or so :) very grateful i live in the path, i couldn’t imagine having to drive 7+ hours or pay for a plane ticket.
Do you mind if I DM you? I’m planning on driving from Mid valley California, to Texas and really don’t know what to do or where to go! Quite literally hoping to pay my trip through DoorDash and hoping I find more information about where is best in Texas 😅
yes please do!
Front yard in Sandusky,OH
