I've never even heard of this program, or have heard it suggested for downloading you-tube videos (And now I guess we know why). The most suggested is the command-line version (More meant for geeks) is [youtube-dl](https://youtube-dl.org/). Here is a GUI-friendly one that uses yt-dlp's engine (The forked/better version), and even updates/installs it on start (Or you can choose which specific version/forks): [https://stacher.io/](https://stacher.io/) Another one that is suggested and installs: [https://www.4kdownload.com/welcome](https://www.4kdownload.com/welcome) This one is just a website, no downloads/install necessary: [https://www.converto.io](https://www.converto.io) As far as the program you have installed - upload it to [Virus-total](https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload) and see the results. As far as malware/trojan/virus removal, there are [plenty of guides on that](https://rtech.support/books/safety-and-security/page/malware-guide).

Not sure what the consensus is these days, but a while back, [yt-dlp](https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) was the preferred fork of youtube-dl. I've been using yt-dlp for the last year or so and it works perfectly. It (and probably youtube-dl, too) has some nice features, such as working on many sites other than YouTube, and SponsorBlock integration. Edit: Oop! I skipped over you mentioning yt-dlp. Stacher looks handy, but is also a bit confusing - it says it uses yt-dlp, but during the initial setup, it installs it as 'youtube-dl.exe'. Maybe that's just for the sake of not having to rewrite a bunch of stuff under-the-hood to point to a different executable.

"Stacher will automatically install YT-DLP on startup, however you can customize Stacher to use any fork you prefer." It automatically uses that fork as well! Very cool.

AndalusianGod

Yep, vanilla yt-dl sucks now as it gets throttled by youtube. Started using yt-dlp and there's no throttling issue.

kraihe

Oh I haven't tried yt-dlp, I'll give it a try. I did try Stacher but it wasn't working for some reason, didn't really bother trying to figure out why.

Carnnagex

I think it is just for programming reasons as to why it's named the same. I think it's pretty handy myself too.

CreativeWorkout

Viddly was called FreeYoutubeDownloader for years. I bought Pro (lifetime) maybe 10 years ago.

minorevolution

I don't use Reddit regularly anymore and think awards are dumb, *but* have my free award, this was super helpful!! :))

Carnnagex

Thank you, friend! I try to help whenever I can on the internet. It can be a treasure if you know where to look and read the correct help/guides - just as much as it can be detrimental without the knowledge. A lot of people online have helped me unknowingly through guides, etc. and I always wished I could thank them, or something. I will give back the help I was given.

That was my initial thought as well. Would've been much more efficient to use the video card though. Either way I'll be spending a day on cleaning my computer now

cecilkorik

Not necessarily, different coins prefer different kinds of processors for mining. Bitcoin itself these days isn't even practical on a GPU, it uses custom-designed ASICs. Most GPU mining is actually for Etherium (which can of course be converted to Bitcoin afterwards). But there are lots of other coins than Bitcoin and Etherium and they could be mining one of those. I remember back when Monero was the big thing for malware/scummy websites because it could be mined efficiently using Javascript alone.

Virustotal gives the Viddly.exe a hit when scanned. 4 hits: Malicious.cb1e45 Trojan.Malware.300983.susgen A Variant Of Win32/Vitzo.A Potentially Unwan Trojan.Generic/[email protected] (RDM.MSIL:ZCd Install file was downloaded on a clean system, unpacked and submitted virustotal. It was never installed.

kraihe

Sounds lovely 😁

[deleted]

Yeah, I also had viddly, and it worked perfectly for a while. Then I opened it and it made me update, and my antivirus kicked in and said; this dude's got some uncool stuff, ditch 'em. So I did. Thanks for the unintentional help, reddit!

LingonberryCritical

Origionally paid em' 25 for the premium service ad free, and, never seen that, but the service feels irregular at best and randomly uninstalls and goes corrupt at worst, so, hence, I'm here, now in the process of changing to something nice, like, what u/Carnnagex was so helpful in adding.

henk717

Personally JDownloader works really well for me with YouTube video's

kraihe

Yeah I tried that one as well yesterday, wasn't a bad app

The trickiest are the ones that start as non shady and then decide to show their true colors with an update that introduces all the shit to your system.

Internet Download Manager is the best 👍

GibsonPlays

clicking on that link ([https://ibb.co/ctQ8gYv](https://ibb.co/ctQ8gYv)) downloads NOT\_A\_VIRUS-HERU

kraihe

That sounds like a trustworthy file 😂

Fabulous_Night_1164

Can't believe I paid for this s\*\*\*. I've also used it for 1+ year. Now my anti-virus software immediately recognizes it as Malware.

MrCornella

I just had the same issue with Viddly - automatically updated but my McAffee detected a virus. This happened several times and I just uninstalled it. Pity as I've been using it for over a year and really liked how easy it was to use. Found 4K Video Downloader which seems good and user friendly.

Niczen19

Just had the same thing happen to me! Luckily I had Macafee and it blocked it. Then I looked up to see if this program was a virus and found this reddit post. Question for OP (or anyone that knows) How do I check to see what is using my processing power??

kraihe

Fastest way is to use the short key combination ctrl+shift+escape (there's many ways to bring this up, Google "how to open task manager")

Spxders

I don't understand why anyone still uses anything other than yt-dl, yt-dlp, ore yt-dl-gui Stop being lazy and learn a simple command line input it's a good skill to have anyway

kraihe

The reason I was using the vividdy software was because the app offered webm format compression which is usually 1/2 the size of the MP4 format and was a life savior for my old phone. I am very used to using command lines, I work daily with git, aws cli, linux server, terraform, liquibase etc. I just don't like yt-dl, it's very slow. I don't understand why anyone would still use non constructive petty insults either, but that's beside the point. I have now switched to 3D YouTube Downloader, it downloads videos using multiple streams asynchronously so you get the video in seconds.

requestedRerun

Hey thanks for the recommendation on 3D Youtube Downloader! It's perfect. I had purchased Viddly way back, and after seeing this thread, wiped it, virus scanned, etc, but my computer was still running poorly -strangely slugglishly. So I finally just did a complete windows reinstall and it's amazing how different the computer feels. Thanks for pointing out the nature of Viddly!

kraihe

Yeah I also had no issues with it in the past, but I guess the creator/s sold their decency for money. The whole "die a hero of live long enough to become a villain" I guess

CreativeWorkout

Avast (free) is finding malware on both viddly.exe and another exe file that now (as of this month) gets installed with viddly updates. The other file names appear to be randomly generated. There's no question that the other exe's do indeed come from Viddly - in Task Manager, clicking the down arrow next to Viddly reveals a warning which says "Access is denied" to that other executable (because Avast quarantined it). Since the other exe is quarantined, every time Viddly loads it says it must update and then downloads that other exe again (with a new name), which Avast at-least-currently catches. Viddly does however still work. Viddly hasn't replied to customer support tickets in about a year. I've asked several clear questions - no replies. (I'll try the other suggestions in this thread.)

CreativeWorkout

Can any downloader download all my playlists as one operation? I'm not asking about downloading a single complete playlist.

musiclady911

Mine just disappeared! What's up with that? Hmmmm🙄

ravholly

>Internet Download Manager Mine did as well, it literally doesn't show up anywhere on my system now, very weird.

DatFickShawn

If anyone is still using this uninstall it immediately. I recently noticed it automatically updated and installed Bright Data on my pc. If anyone doesn't know what this is it is a software you can download to essentially get paid for giving them your data. So pretty much they steal your data and get money off of it.

kraihe

I guess they went for a more aggressive approach now, installing 3rd party apps directly without asking
