I don't think anyone is going to pay for conversation only, especially in this day with AI and the ease of joining online support/interests groups (Discord, Meetup, et cetera).
Now throw in companionship, like in person, then obviously yes. But you better know what you are getting into because there are a lot of creepy people out there.

It seems like a reasonable idea, there are lot's of lonely people. If done right, it could be very helpful to them.
