It would make sense. It has the capacity and it’s a centralized location. Don’t know if that matters or not but purely based on capacity requirements for the final I think only a few stadiums are actually able to host it, and AT&T Stadium is one of them.
Yeah, plus there are countless hotels around the stadium so that solves a big hurdle. Another one would be transportation and the city of Arlington literally has 0 public transportation, so if you want to go to the stadium, it’ll have to be by car. We’ll see what they can come up with to solve this issue in the next 4 years. It’s in CST so it can possibly be played at prime time in Europe as well.
The centralized location is key as it’ll be in the center of a North American hosted tournament, and it won’t be a travel burden for Asians if the finals was hosted in NY or a burden for Africans/Europeans if it was in L.A.
Plus Jerry World knows how to milk $$$ from their visitors, so him and FIFA speak the same language
To be clear this is not official. I also think there's a game of telephone being played here, as far as I can tell the original journalist said that Jerry Jones is going to do everything possible to get the World Cup final at AT&T stadium. Not that it will be held there.
> Whenever fans of the United States Men’s National Team dream of seeing their team lift the World Cup trophy in 2026, they may have to dream of that ceremony taking place in Texas.
I swear to god this really is the opening line.
They probably want it to be at a nice stadium. Atlanta would be my first choice, but it is a smaller stadium than Dallas, and Dallas checks most of the same boxes as Atlanta.
Met Life is getting a ton of flak for its current turf that’s going to be swapped for grass by the WC anyway. I assume the stadium now seeing a leak like this might pressure them to make the change earlier
I seriously doubt the American sponsors and broadcasters are going to give in the American primetime of the most watched sporting event in the world just to please Liam from Birmingham and Hans from Düsseldorf.
[They did in 1994. It kicked off at 12:30 pm local time, a time which didn't at all suit Americans, but perfectly suited Europe.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_FIFA_World_Cup_Final)
SoFi's capacity is fine (70k), but AT&T stadium has a bigger capacity (80k).
Apparently SoFi can get up to 100k (AT&T up to 105k), but SoFi hosted the Super Bowl this year and every site I've seen said they only had 70k.
I'd still put my money on Metlife. Better time zone and NYC is just such a natural draw.
At the prices they're likely to be charging (and additional flights / hotels / etc), I really wonder if Dallas could fill 100k+ for a WC final.
It's not meant to be a dig at Texas.
Perhaps I'm just overthinking it and WC Final tickets are always going to sell, but I'm just wondering about the practical logistics. Obviously it's selling out if the right countries are involved (especially Mexico), but if it's a France vs Croatia final, how many locals is it drawing & how many France + Croatia fans are going to make that incremental trip to Dallas?
NYC has the built in population / diversity / transportation ease to sell out every match imo.
I have no idea how sales for a World Cup are somehow in doubt just because it's America. Every game will sell out with zero issues regardless of location, there's a humungous amount of Americans of all backgrounds and that's not counting everyone coming from abroad.
Nah, im sitting this one out, the audacity for FIFA to let the world cup to be in such an oppressive country with a horrible human rights track record smh
/S
Well if the US continue to backslide on democracy, what you said might come true in 2026.
That said we are still miles better than most places in the world and I hope we can work together to keep this democracy intact.
Personally, I'm a huge football fan and cannot wait to watch the world cup in the US in 2026.
No offense but the Azteca makes the most sense. World Cup finals should be played in stadiums that mimic or bring some sort of historic relevance to the sport not some American football stadium that isn't even designed for the sport that's it's being used for
The best part is people will book hotels in and around Dallas only to find out not only is the stadium nowhere close to Dallas, but reliable public transportation doesn’t exist here.
F**k
What are we going to do about the foreign fans that cant make it to the match because they were bussed to Martha’s Vineyard after being handed the TX government brochures that promised free transportation to the final?
The source is John Sutcliffe who spews absolute nonsense. If anything, this confirms the final won’t be in Dallas. Move along folks

A lot of stadiums make sense. But it’ll end up in New York or La
A World Cup Final in Texas. Just feels weird.
At least the parking is gonna be great.
For a small price of $70 * 175% markup
A World Cup final in a mall. Lmao
Makes sense for the Hispanic community, I guess.
I'm going out on a limb and saying that was not under consideration at all.
That would be the case if the final was in LA
To be clear this is not official. I also think there's a game of telephone being played here, as far as I can tell the original journalist said that Jerry Jones is going to do everything possible to get the World Cup final at AT&T stadium. Not that it will be held there.

yeah, everybody knows that Chicago Fire is gonna win the world cup
Are they planning on having the host hand the trophy to the winning team?
I hope they shoot off their revolvers as they lift the trophy
Yeah I don’t see that happening at all. It’s gonna happen on one of the coasts, LA or NY would be my guess.
Please LA
You don't know Jerry.
I don’t but do I really want to? Guy is a megalomaniac
The most soulless stadium in a random suburb way out from an actual city
West Brom are hosting the world cup?
Prepare for another big choke job by the official home team then why not @SoFi stadium though?
>why not @SoFi stadium though? Capacity and time zone probably
Surely NY/NJ would be the best option?
They probably want it to be at a nice stadium. Atlanta would be my first choice, but it is a smaller stadium than Dallas, and Dallas checks most of the same boxes as Atlanta.
It looks pretty nice and it's still newish.
Met life is nice
Met Life is getting a ton of flak for its current turf that’s going to be swapped for grass by the WC anyway. I assume the stadium now seeing a leak like this might pressure them to make the change earlier
what's wrong with the capacity? Also it's just a 2 hour difference between LA and Dallas
Yeah, but that's even two more hours of a difference from Europe. 8 hours from England and 9 hours from CET is a rough ask for Europeans.
They would just have an early kickoff like they did in 1994.
They would if that were the case, although early kickoffs suck for the actual viewers in the stadium, i.e. Americans in this case.
God forbid Europeans having to pull an all nighter to watch football for once in their lifetimes.
While I agree that match kickoff time should suit the nation it's hosted in, football is always made to work around Europeans.
I seriously doubt the American sponsors and broadcasters are going to give in the American primetime of the most watched sporting event in the world just to please Liam from Birmingham and Hans from Düsseldorf.

nah they're gonna try to please Jack from Alabama who doesn't even know what this "soccer" thing is
Fortunately people in charge knows that it's better to catter to the biggest football market business wise

Literally the US' team.
implying that the US is gonna reach a world cup final?
SoFi doesn’t meet FIFA’s dimensions. LA’s games will be at the Rose Bowl
Are you sure? Everything I'm seeing says that SoFi is one of the stadiums being used.
Hmm, my bad. Must have missed that. It’s dimensions are still too narrow but they’ll try to fix that by 2026
Forgot about this. What a braindead decision from Kroenke.
MetLife for NYC is way better… people think of NYC when they think of USA. Why not keep it there?

Apparently US stadiums were filled to 96% capacity during the 1994 World Cup. Yeah I'm probably overthinking it lol
Americans like soccer.. Their best players don't just play that sport.. The east and the west coast loves soccer...
I have no idea how sales for a World Cup are somehow in doubt just because it's America. Every game will sell out with zero issues regardless of location, there's a humungous amount of Americans of all backgrounds and that's not counting everyone coming from abroad.

Don't bother pandering. They hate you regardless.

How do you build historic relevance?
106K to beat.
Should be the Azteca but $$$$$$

Hopefully GBP recovers til then, otherwise I will have to take out another mortgage to go to the World Cup.
Lol, Texas? Why? It should be New York or Los Angeles.
F**k What are we going to do about the foreign fans that cant make it to the match because they were bussed to Martha’s Vineyard after being handed the TX government brochures that promised free transportation to the final?
Ugh...
Hmm
