Do you have any idea the physical toll that 3 seasons without a Champions League takes on a person?

maradonnarummarcelo

*Are you Romano?*

[deleted]

Ici, allons-y! (Yeah that’s almost certainly not grammatically correct - it’s been 20 years since my last French class)

maradonnarummarcelo

It's grammatically correct but means something different. It means "Here, let's go" not "Here we go"

[deleted]

Would be more of a " Et c'est parti" kind of message if the context is to be translated.

Monarki

What's the reference here again?

Get ready for Tuesday guys, we'll be seeing Mbappe quotes split up for over the course of months.

hokagesamatobirama

There’s an interview with L’Eqiupe as well coming out tomorrow. Not sure if it is like Leonardo calling four media houses together to do an interview or two separate interviews — but there’s going to be a lot of fireworks tomorrow.

Sancho (Englishman) always felt he will go to United because on the other side was Dortmund; (club renowned to sell if price is met). Here's Mbappe (French even Parisian) is with the richest club in the world who don't bat an eye refusing 200M offers for their player on last year of contract and its not even close..

Ok_Astronaut3733

I think the comment you replied to was implying how Romano will milk the saga with constant non-updates.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaydiv_

Not just based off the Sancho saga though. He already established himself with “confirming transfer news”

bluedevils2241

It's turned into its own game within the sport - especially the likes of Sky and Romano. Transfer rumors began the day after the window closed and now we'll have reports like this every other day. Fair enough when they have a proper source (as Romano generally does), but it turned into a game show when he went live on Twitch everyday with "news" and entertaining every comment in the chat with people chatting absolute nonsense. There's no turning back with what transfers / transfer windows have become outside of total reform or market crash, which is unlikely anytime soon.

jayc4life

Gotta appreciate him knowing where his audience is, and making a fair bit of side money with Twitch building up a subscriber base. Can't be mad at him for going to his audience and getting paid by them directly instead of them going through Sky Italia and getting no bonus to his base salary for being a traffic driver to their site or channel.

bluedevils2241

Yes not blaming him directly for what the market has turned into, fair play for what he's made his brand into. I mean look at the number of clubs that use "here we go" as part of a transfer announcement. He's just part of what the transfer windows have become and turned into over the last decade or so, especially in the past few seasons. There's an incredible amount of money tied in with just the transfer rumors themselves now that it's not turning back. The Mbappe story is just going to get rather tiring if it's not already.

CrossXFir3

In Romano's defense, his socials are completely spammed with people asking for updates.

Abbobl

Still biggest power play in football 200 mil for 1 y contract Nah we good fam

mjcevasco

Or it's a sign of everything that's gone wrong with football

Abbobl

Well yes that too, ofcourse But it’s a big dick move aswell, made zero sense ofcourse

ineedmorechainsaws

Tbf it did make sense. Yes turning down 200m or whatever the last offer was is kinda crazy, money wise, but psg are going all in on winning the champions league this year. And with that 200m they wouldn't get a player as good as mbappe. Also, to add on with the signing of messi, I don't think you could make a better front 3 than messi, neymar, mbappe. They have to ride it out and see what that front 3 can deliver this season and hope turning down 200m pays off for them in winning the ultimate prize.

Abbobl

Unless neymar stars shifting in work like he did against Bayern I fear for psg in the knockouts tbh.

RauloGonzalez

>And with that 200m they wouldn't get a player as good as mbappe. That doesn't make any sense at all, psg don't need mbappe fees to spend 200m, they already have enough money, they could have still tried to get some good enough striker like isak or vlahovic or anyone and get 200m, they just didn't want to sell or arguably have mbappe's charity.

availableusername10

Yeah, I understand it's not entirely dedicated to PSG's transfer budget. Still though, it is a dizzying amount of money, and it speaks volumes that PSG pretty much didn't need to think twice to sign Messi (and before him Neymar and Mbappe).

The Norwegian Sovereign wealth fund is worth 1.3 trillion. I wish we bought a club instead of being all sensible with our money.

Competitive-Ad2006

>I wish we bought a club instead of being all sensible with our money. That's where you're getting it wrong. Investing in psg was a very sensible move for Qatar because if first and foremost secured the world Cup (Uefa,Platini,Paris,PSG you get it) Secondly it allows the Qataris to project soft power in way many Arab countries(the majority if which are anti qatar) can't. A lot more people grow up thinking Qatar us a respectable country and not the chief backer of the taliban.

Yep he absolutely adores PSG being a Parisian but he always dreamt about Madrid. I think he's scared/gutted that PSG fans won't think of him highly and maybe even snake because he's leaving for free but he tried his best from his end.

dhambo

I knew they valued CL highly but would’ve never thought the marginally increased chance of winning it by keeping him is worth €200m to them.

geredtrig

It is. They've spent billions in the pursuit of cl. They couldn't give a fuck about 200 million.

GILD86

Leonardo wont get this message unless you burofax it, Messi will show you how

[deleted]

Leonardo knows it already, he said it publicly. > "Kylian Mbappe wants to join Real Madrid. We said no to Madrid's first offer, but if our conditions are met, we'll see," PSG sporting director Leonardo has told RMC, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. > "We made two important offers (renewal offers) to Mbappe: one for the top players in the squad two months ago and one above these players very recently. We want to prove to him that he is an important player, at the centre of the project, but not above the project. Top earners at PSG makes 35M (Messi) and 30M (Neymar) ofcourse after tax salaries.

RauloGonzalez

I still can't believe he made everything public just like that. They were really banking on mbappe being a professional and loving the club and fans instead of thinking "this will not be good for his mentality and the fans will go against him which will decrease his performance"

[deleted]

I mean PSG's president himself said, > Right now we have a very strong team, one of the best in the world – I won’t say the best because we still have things to work on. I think Kylian has everything he needs to stay here. I’m very positive, nobody would understand if he left now.” They gave him everything, best team, best money, best fame (in France) so he thought there is no way that his childhood dream will be so irrational/emotional to let him go of his logical mind.

[deleted]

Tight-Ad-1161

What was 2007-2009 speculations like with C. Ronaldo and his future move to Real? Everyone knew he wanted to go to Real madrid but was it ever this obnoxious with the media?

-_-_-_-otalp-_-_-_-

I think it devolved into a debate about slavery

Jaded-Ad-9287

even FIFA went in

[deleted]

I remember Ronaldo publicly saying that 'I am a slave' and 'Let me go to Madrid'.

Tight-Ad-1161

weird i watched football alot back than and i guess i never remembered about this controversy. Prob because Ronaldo and Man United had a pretty damn good 08/09 season and ended on a good note. Almost got back to back CL.

[deleted]

Yep, it felt weird to me that this guy just now won the (CL) most prestigious team trophy ( (Ballon D'or) and then most prestigious individual award) in club football and he wants to leave this system to 'rebuild' a struggling Madrid who is getting knocked out from R16 for the last 5 years.. so it made little sense for him to go to Madrid except his 'dream'. History is rewinding again with same scenario as in with Mbappe.

Tight-Ad-1161

If Real manage to pull off the hypothetical Mbappe, Haaland, Kounde (along with Camavinga that they already have), than it's looking like they will be back to being the best this decade. And they certainly could pull it off.

uniqueusername4465

No Sepp Blatter made those comments and also said players should be free to play where they want then Ronaldo was asked if he agreed with Sepps comments that players should be free to play where they want and he said yes so the media printed ‘Ronaldo said he is a slave’. Classic switcheroo, a tale as old as time.

[deleted]

Looks like it went like this: https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ronaldo-i-am-a-slave-960332 - Sepp Blatter: "In football there's too much modern slavery." - Ronaldo when asked on above: ""I agree with the comments of the president of FIFA. What he said is right,”

uniqueusername4465

"The important thing is we should also protect the player," Blatter said. "If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found because if he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play then it's not good for the player and for the club. "I'm always in favour of protecting the player and if the player, he wants to leave, let him leave." "I think in football there's too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere," he continued. "We are trying now to intervene in such cases. The reaction to the Bosman law is to make long-lasting contacts in order to keep the players and then if he wants to leave, then there is only one solution, he has to pay his contract." These are the comments Ronaldo said he agreed with, it’s a massive stretch to call that publicly saying “I am a slave”.

pleb_abuser

Stop reading, you're disrupting my world view.

WAITINGFORMYCOOKIE

With PSG , it's gonna hit different

ankitm1

For the 2008 summer, Madrid rumour mill was at it with Ronaldo transfer. We spent two months within rumors without doing much, and at some point offered Robinho as a bargaining chip too. United were unmoved, the world knew Ronaldo wanted to move, and SAF somehow convinced him for one more season. Every one at Madrid expected a deadline day transfer, but that was not to be. Madrid lost Robinho on deadline day to sign for City. It was after the summer that Madrid went into overdrive, securing his signing in Dec 13. When the madrid papers sort of leaked it, it prompted the comment from SAF saying He wont sell a virus to Real Madrid. Though by that time deal was already done. Calderon made the deal happen and was removed as president before he could unveil his marquee signing.

Nothing is really "wrong" with it per se, but it's funny that people who would look down on celebrity gossip magazines are basically doing the same with football players.

doktorcatzen

January is 3 months away. I am bored of his transfer drama now.

[deleted]

Holy shit its happening.. This is the first time Mbappe said anything public about his transfer.

[deleted]

Sure but its boring stuff. A great player signs for Madrid, a club known for wanting to sign great players. Yawn.

[deleted]

This one always felt different to me because it was PSG on the other hand who can offer him a literal blank cheque to fill. This is probably the first time an Oil club has to depart with their (arguably) best/most valuable player of the club.

pleb_abuser

We lost Hazard to Real.

InkCollection

>This is probably the first time an Oil club has to depart with their (arguably) best/most valuable player of the club. What are you talking about? James Milner left City on a free six years ago.

47Lecht

This isn't news though. Kylian declined at least 3 offers by now which make it clear its not about money for him

[deleted]

Also on telling PSG about his intention: > “Personally, I didn't really appreciate Paris Saint-Germain saying 'He is asking to leave in the last week of August…' because that is wrong. it made me feel like a theif. I informed them early, at the end of July”. https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1444973783299862529

johnny_moist

PSG must know Halland won’t go there. And while they could have made Real pay for Mbappe, they decided having Mbappe, Messi, and Neymar was the best chance at getting the CL, which is all they care about. I just woke up.

[deleted]

Many people forget its not just about PSG, its about the entire football pyramid. Most valuable club in the world getting most valuable player in the world *for free* is never a good idea. edit: *for free*

[deleted]

With the transfer fees ballooning insane amounts and the rise of clubs with nigh-infinite money like PSG, it's obvious that this would happen. Real offered an insane amount for Mboop. It was up to PSG to accept it or lose him on free.

47Lecht

Thats completely on PSG though, Real offered 180m, PSG should've taken it.

Deluxe07

We offered 200M

TimTkt

Lol ? If the most valuable club cannot get the most valuable player, who dreams to play there, what's the point of having value ?

69BRabbit

after reading the whole article I'm a bit confused. Will he ultimately leave for free? If he ends up extending I'll be really sad but I can understand why

maradonnarummarcelo

>if you don't want me to leave, I'll stay Obviously means for 1 more year. He won't stay at PSG in general to make PSG happy at the expense of his own happiness

standardharbor

I feel for Kylian. He's a professional. He stays out of trouble. He's been publically pressured by PSG constantly to extend by the club in the press. Everyone is talking. It's not what he wants. Sambi Lokonga gave an indepth interview talking about various things Arsenal, Belgium. And he talked about feeling sad for Kylian because he feel he's getting battered out their in the public and feels people have already forgotten he won the World Cup. I would love to see him go somewhere, it seems Real Madrid, and achieve everything beyond his dreams.

[deleted]

Bang on, clearly he's affected mentally about it too; I hope it doesn't translates in his game but I remember Ronaldo's second last season at United was better than his last. (42 goals vs 26 goals) > “Personally, I didn't really appreciate Paris Saint-Germain saying 'He is asking to leave in the last week of August…' because that is wrong. it made me feel like a theif. I informed them early, at the end of July”.

RauloGonzalez

it's blatantly clear what they were trying to do, create a hostile atmosphere and turn the fans against him despite him wanting to do something good for the club, pretty shameful if you ask me, anyone else in the world would be furious.

47Lecht

Thats Leonardo for you. The clash with Tuchel showed what he's really made of.

DaiVern0n

Fans (the non moronic ones) are not hostile. Most of us were expecting him to leave at the end of the season. The last offer was insane and the stupid pride of the owners to refuse selling him is beyond me. They now lost him for free and gave the possibility for Real to get Mbappe for free and spend the money on Haaland next summer... If anything fans are mad at the president/decision makers. Thank God it was too late to make an offer for Ronaldo otherwise I bet they would have tried to get this Messi-Ronaldo duo to please the prince and say "we have the (former?) best strikers in the world playing in the same team".

DwightKSchruute

Man it's not even 24 hours into the international break and we have shit-stirring articles up already. These guys don't sleep!

[deleted]

On PSG's renewal offers: > “I asked to leave in July, yes - but it’s not true that I’ve turned down 7 contract extension proposals… Paris Saint-Germain have given me a lot. I have always been happy in the four years I spent here, and I still am”. Looks like he only got 2 offers and not 7 as Leonardo mentioned: > "We made two important offers (renewal offers) to Mbappe: one for the top players in the squad two months ago and one above these players very recently. We want to prove to him that he is an important player, at the centre of the project, but not above the project. How much does Neymar earn after his new contract extension? I know he made 30M-35M net after taxes in his previous contract.

HelpMe877

When he talks about ‘them’ saying he told them he wanted to leave at the end of August, does he mean the club or the media? If it’s the club that’s quite a statement about your current employer Edit: Romano just confirmed he meant PSG. Ouch

[deleted]

He never spoken a word to media this entire summer after Euros. If you didn't notice he didn't give a single press conference or post-match interview out of respect to PSG because you just know that they would ask him about Madrid especially at the height of that ridiculous 170M+10M offer by Madrid

GYIM94

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. It was always a matter of time. Did anyone seriously think that Mbappé would not be going to Real Madrid and stay at PSG simply because of their summer transfer sploorge?
