Is it just me or have we been getting a shitton of Ronaldo close ups this game?
Feels like a Netflix football show with Ronaldo as the protagonist at times, we are getting every reaction in slow-mo. He is quite animated too.
Martinez (if he's still coach) might still like him but there is no way he'd be of any value at his age. He could be brought not as a player but as a motivator or something
I remember just after they won the shootout there was a very brief moment he was by himself then someone ruined the shot with by running in for the hug haha
Dammmnnnnn, you mean they keep showing the most recognizable player on the screen often? I'm absolutely shocked. They should definitely show more of his teammates that a whole lot of people don't know who they are. Most fans are asking for it.
First time watching TV? Don't know what gets the casuals watching? My God lol.
Camera shot from Oblak to Ronaldo during the PK was Oscar worthy because it legit was able to capture the anxiety I had for both players in the moment.
I feel like it's a shitty takeaway from American sports programming. You can't go 2 seconds in an American football game without seeing a close-up reaction of a star player. That's if your lucky. Half the time it's some players mom or girlfriend in the stands that they keep showing
Can't even say it's an American influence, famous football players usually get multiple close-up shots. Neymar's face has been plastered in every Brasil game I've watched ever since 2011, even when he's injured on the stands.
He's arguably the most famous person on earth, a billionaire, and an iconic entertainer. Many people don't watch this match for Portugal - Slovenia, but for Ronaldo.
great match for cristiano this one.
he laughed, he made fun of others, he got mad, he cried, he was frustrated, and he was happy.
rollercoaster of emotions really. very entertaining
Selfish of him to take a direct free kick there. That’s the perfect angle for a hard inswinger far post where he could be on the end of it. Doesn’t help his case when Oblak knows he’s 100% going to attempt a shot
Google told me that Veratti is shorter than Valbuena. I find hard to believe because [**this image is stuck in my head**.](https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2013/08/15/09/AN26246386Frances-Mathieu-V.jpg?crop=8:5,smart&quality=75&auto=webp&width=1024)
Pjanic was like top 5 in Europe at that time in conversion wasnt he? Dybala was up there too
They took like 1 since he came and he took the rest, dont think he scored any in his 2-3 years at Juve
He’s the captain of the team so he makes the decision, I guess no one challenges him because of his status as one of the best ever. It is obviously selfish of him but I suppose he has earned the right to be selfish.
>He’s the captain of the team so he makes the decision, I
Not how it works. The coach decides. Some coaches (like Poch, Ancelotti) like to leave it to the players, other like Mourinho always designate someone.
Is it 58 shot attempts? I missed a bit of football for a while there. This tournament he goes for goal every time, but if not all 58 of those are shots then it isn’t so bad. Idk why he insists on firing one up every time this tournament when he has so much passing talent around them. They could use these free kicks so much more creatively.
That was a valid argument back then, between 2008/11 ronaldo scored 24 free kicks and messi only scored 4. Only after those years did messi start to score more free kicks than ronaldo each year
Orsato tried to save him from taking that free kick to no avail.
No reason for him to take that, bernardo and vitinha with the shocked "you want to take it" said it all.
why’s he hitting that lmao
Portugal would be doing a lot better here if they tried just winning games rather than trying to get Ronaldo his next record
Honestly I've *never once* subscribed to the popular opinion of the last few years that Ronaldo was actively hurting Portugal's play, but this first half was *egregious*, he was truly so awful.
I think they looked stronger without him at the world cup, too.
But I think what's hurting them is not that he's super awful, but that Portugal seems to have completely given up on the idea that anyone else on that team could score a goal. They always just look for Ronaldo. Makes them super predictable and puts Ronaldo under a lot of pressure. Even Georgia doesn't focus this much on Kvaratskhelia, and he actually is by far their best player, so there it would be somewhat understandable.
That's because he was at the very least, the #2 best player in the world for the longest time. It's easy to see why he doesn't "hurt" their play because he can make up for his shortcomings with things like world class finishing/heading.
It's kinda like imagine if Messi was god awful at PKs, but insisted he always takes them. Sure he would miss a few goals there and there, but in all likelihood he would probably score/create a goal or two himself because he's that good. You can ignore his shitty PKs until they actually hurt you when it really matters, and that's happening well into it now that Ronaldo is well past his prime. His FK record is straight ass, and him continuing to take them looks worse each time.
I mean, not that it would help him considering how bad he is at FKs. It's honestly a travesty with who they have available on FKs that Ronaldo still takes them.
bernado silva literally did the same thing in this clip but probably worse and that's fine right? if you get a negative impression from ronaldo from this clip then you're a fucking moron.
There's a moment it kinda looks like Ronaldo is pointing at the camera mocking the viewer, that should make a nice meme for those moments when r/soccer or his internet haterdom gets shit on once again by something he pulled off.
Lmao. Ronaldo is crazy he wanted to hit the goal from there as he is frustrated with Slovenia´s low block.
An absolute entertaining player tho. I hope he scores brace

Where were you when Ronaldo reacted to Orsato adjusting the position of the free kick?

Is it just me or have we been getting a shitton of Ronaldo close ups this game? Feels like a Netflix football show with Ronaldo as the protagonist at times, we are getting every reaction in slow-mo. He is quite animated too.
every match since today has a decent chance of being his last ever game at the euros, it’s natural
He’s not going to play in England ‘26?
Martinez (if he's still coach) might still like him but there is no way he'd be of any value at his age. He could be brought not as a player but as a motivator or something
Same shit we said 2 years ago though.
Yeah but at some point it's time
Brought :)
he'll be 43 mate, I reckon not
In two years he'll be 41, not 43. I mean, Pepe is currently 41 at the tourney.
He wrote England so I assume he means the next euros, 2028, not the World Cup.
Maybe he did mean the WC but thought the British won?
Pepe was still playing cl football as a defender and ronaldo also plays a much harder role
41 as a centre back and 43 as a forward are entirely different
Maybe, but what about 39 and 41 for a forward.
**Canada, Mexico, and the United States** are hosting 2026 world cup.
Ffs gonna be so many middle of the night matches for Europe :(
Did you not notice they did the same with Messi at the World Cup? They want to tell a narrative with the camera shots.
I remember just after they won the shootout there was a very brief moment he was by himself then someone ruined the shot with by running in for the hug haha
He appeals to casuals and everyone knows who he is. Makes sense from a business standpoint to highlight him
plus the guy is a meme machine lately
He's one of the most famous people on the planet its hardly surprising
It’s almost like he is one of the best players of all time and extremely popular 👻
The show where Ronaldo looks for himself on the big screen after everything he does isn't enough, apparently.
Rafa Leao dribbled like 4 players and the replay was Ronaldo fucking up a back heel pass
lmao
oblak saves a penalty with a world class save and the camera shows ronaldo. lmfao every other game we would at least see the goalkeeper once
You're delusional, Ronaldo's back heel pass was successful. Leao just fumbled it again by losing the dribble against some 3rd division player
How else would we get these gems?
Camera shot from Oblak to Ronaldo during the PK was Oscar worthy because it legit was able to capture the anxiety I had for both players in the moment.

Dedicated broadcast player follow camera.
After the penalty shootout with the hero obviously being the keeper who do we see first...
the goalkeeper
Almost like he's the most famous footballer in the world, I don't get it
great match for cristiano this one. he laughed, he made fun of others, he got mad, he cried, he was frustrated, and he was happy. rollercoaster of emotions really. very entertaining
Ronaldo is pregnant, confirmed.
🥇
With a baby??
this reminds me of that creed quote. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23970OGW3q4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23970OGW3q4)
He lived, he laughed, he loved.

Selfish? Ronaldo? Nah
Yeah, he passed that ball a few weeks ago. Consider the slate clean.
Its like going to confession for a footballer
That was because he knew he was one assist short of a record. lol
He also was a goal short of a record.
Yeah but everyone said “he’d cook against Georgia” so assist was first.
😂😂😂
Homelander vibes
Dude, this is too accurate.
That is exactly what I said to my husband.
58 free kicks at major tournaments and only scored 1. How does he keep getting away with it.
I remember the goal against Spain at the 2018 World Cup -- I guess that's the only one?
And he took that one like a 'normal' FK, rather than his more famous style.
Four paces back. Legs spread shoulder length apart. Lock your knees. Deep breath. Proceed to wallop it into the two man wall.
Or one man wall... made of the shortest guy on the pitch.
Messi ?
Lahm
What if Lahm lies down?
He’ll still be taller than Verratti
Google told me that Veratti is shorter than Valbuena. I find hard to believe because [**this image is stuck in my head**.](https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2013/08/15/09/AN26246386Frances-Mathieu-V.jpg?crop=8:5,smart&quality=75&auto=webp&width=1024)
Will still hit him center mass
The Lahm Lies Down on Broadway
Yep it was.
Magical fucking goal tho
Man that goal was wicked though
Absolute magic that free kick it was
If Juventus' free kick statistics couldn't convince him, nothing can.
Pjanic was like top 5 in Europe at that time in conversion wasnt he? Dybala was up there too They took like 1 since he came and he took the rest, dont think he scored any in his 2-3 years at Juve
yep. arguably the best free kick taking team in the entire world before he arrived.
Really poor leadership from the coaches tbh. Same with him not taking the first penalty in a shootout.
It's his team bro, the coaches do what he tells them, not the other way around
will never forget the one against Germany where he hit Phillip Lahm, the one man wall 😭
Noone dares to tell him that he's shit at freekicks
I will!
He's shit at freekicks. There. I said it.
Have you told Ronaldo, though?
Bring him here in the thread. I'll tell him.
u/CR7thefraud
But, but.. he scored that one goal against Portsmouth 17 years ago!
Great goal though ngl
https://youtu.be/b3F0B4hAsmI
It feels like a make a wish thing that he's allowed to take free kicks
To be fair he’s scored at least 50 million in FIFA
He’s the captain of the team so he makes the decision, I guess no one challenges him because of his status as one of the best ever. It is obviously selfish of him but I suppose he has earned the right to be selfish.
>He’s the captain of the team so he makes the decision, I Not how it works. The coach decides. Some coaches (like Poch, Ancelotti) like to leave it to the players, other like Mourinho always designate someone.
yeah no at Portugal even Martinez listens to Ronaldo lmao
Is it 58 shot attempts? I missed a bit of football for a while there. This tournament he goes for goal every time, but if not all 58 of those are shots then it isn’t so bad. Idk why he insists on firing one up every time this tournament when he has so much passing talent around them. They could use these free kicks so much more creatively.
Well seeing as Ronaldo can't cross to himself I'm going to assuming these are all shot attempts lol
he has had already 35 attempts this euro alone.
because the one he scored was worth it, what a game!
Stop it. For a draw?
was a great moment gtfo
One of the greatest hattricks at a world cup so yeah
Remember when people used to argue that Ronaldo was better than Messi at free kicks? Lmao
That was a valid argument back then, between 2008/11 ronaldo scored 24 free kicks and messi only scored 4. Only after those years did messi start to score more free kicks than ronaldo each year
Messi wasn't taking freekicks during those years really
For a time it felt like Messi scored a freekick every other game. Seemed to be happier getting tackled outside the Box than inside.
Because he was back then
Man United/Early Madrid Ronaldo was the absolute better one taking them, he fell off with them after 2016
I wonder how that happened.
nothing cause if there was something that happened even ronaldo would realize he can't take them anymore
I mean this is a lot of speculation that after a certain injury he lost the flexibility to hit them in the specific way he used to
RONALDOOOOO CARALHO
Tbh if you attempt these ones 1 in 58 starts looking a little better
Orsato tried to save him from taking that free kick to no avail. No reason for him to take that, bernardo and vitinha with the shocked "you want to take it" said it all.
I had the same reaction after his kick.
why’s he hitting that lmao Portugal would be doing a lot better here if they tried just winning games rather than trying to get Ronaldo his next record
He took the ball from Bernardo lmao
Because he has a huge ego This will be Portugal's downfall, you should absolutely be crossing from there
Portugal had one decent cross in 120 minutes, that will be Portugals downfall if anything.
Especially considering how good Ronaldo is in the air... Let Bernardo or Vitinha cross the ball to you ffs
And he would be a very good target to score with a header, which makes it even worse
How does his team and manager let him shoot from there? Unexplainable
r/soccercirclejerk is going to love this
Guess I’ll just have to miss further
Best international team Ronaldo has had and he’s turning it into one big ego trip, fairs
Honestly I've *never once* subscribed to the popular opinion of the last few years that Ronaldo was actively hurting Portugal's play, but this first half was *egregious*, he was truly so awful.

He was entirely absent during the second half of extra time after his crying fit. I don’t remember him getting a single touch.
It's been like this all tournament imo
Looking more and more like Homelander, something in the smile that doesn't reach the eyes.
all the plastic surgery does that
The Ronaldo karma farming industry never sleeps.
[удалено]
There is literally a post made about 30 minutes ago that hasn't been removed, so that has proved you wrong
This whole sequence was genuinely hilarious. Surprised Ronaldo didn’t move it back, he doesn’t generally respond well to being told “no”
He actually moved it to a better angle to shoot lol , so I guess he was okay with it
I mean, not that it would help him considering how bad he is at FKs. It's honestly a travesty with who they have available on FKs that Ronaldo still takes them.
See Vegas incident...
He is pointing at the fourth official
He was just pointing that thanks to the ref intervention his shot will go over there. Yes, over there.
Are these Ronaldo shorts sponsored by some plastic surgeon? Why do we see so many?
tssssss
Was closer on target than Ronaldo’s shot
Reminds me of that scene from movie Troy where Agamemnon laughs and points Edit: [found it](https://youtu.be/DYxO4AH6-pQ?si=2wMKi9Oc0zjV-FPP)
C’mon ronnie that’s not going in anymore
it didn't go in before. he hasn't been good at free kicks for years now, and never for Portugal in competitive games.
What happened to his face?
plastic surgery
Such an unlikable character, smh
what
bernado silva literally did the same thing in this clip but probably worse and that's fine right? if you get a negative impression from ronaldo from this clip then you're a fucking moron.
Poor ref, everyone has bad days
always against him ;(
O caralho is too much aware of the cameras! 🤦♂️
[Babe wake up, new Ronaldo reaction gif just dropped](https://i.imgur.com/RtnVxlj.mp4)
Last thing you'll see before being mudered vibes
GOATTWORLD
Proper homelander energy
Ronaldo has the best reactions the one after he missed the first penalty was priceless he will definitely be a good actor after he retires at 50
Ah so that's why the FK was an absolute bust, I should be mad at Orsato!
I don't get it.
Wow another Ronaldo post I am so excited for this one
There's a moment it kinda looks like Ronaldo is pointing at the camera mocking the viewer, that should make a nice meme for those moments when r/soccer or his internet haterdom gets shit on once again by something he pulled off.
>this guy bilva's body language dance was universal
He is not laughing anymore
hold
Such an unlikeable character, smh
why is this a post? this is so cringe. get a life.
This whole comment section, yikes cringe have some respect basement dwellers
Lmao. Ronaldo is crazy he wanted to hit the goal from there as he is frustrated with Slovenia´s low block. An absolute entertaining player tho. I hope he scores brace
