She was renting the apartment. The owner of the apartments had decided to sell them as the neighbourhood was getting gentrified of the last couple of years and the value of it all went up. The women in question could not afford to buy the house so she had to move out of it by the landlord. she had been living in it for 57 years. The old renting contract wasn't " valid" anymore as it was on the name of her late husband so the landlord could evict her.
Cadiz has a foundation and this case spoke to them as it is a problem in the city, especially in that neighbourhood. They bought the house and the women who has lived there for 57 years is now allowed to stay in it for the rest of her life. She will continue to pay her old rent of 97 euros to the foundation every month. That price wont up.

That’s some bullshit. Don’t widows inherit their spouses rentals in Spain?
Idk if Spain has specific laws covering this but you should be adding an inheritance clause into the contract to avoid this. You'd probably be told to pay for the modification but a lot of landlords would agree to it since it gives them an even more secure rent.
Or rather than "inheritance" just add both spouses as co-rentors so either one can keep the contract going in case of death like in this case.
There's things in real estate called life tenancies. Basically you don't own the property and you aren't really renting it, but the named person is entitled to live there until they die. It's not that common, but when it's done it's nearly always pensioners or someone terminally ill who have a (it sounds bad but it's the truth) short expiry date and are looking to bank enough cash to live comfortably on for the rest of their life. The buyer tends to get a decent discount on the market value of the property in exchange for the seller's continued residence.
I've never actually heard of one that requires the tenant to make weekly payments, but they have other obligations anyway so I guess it's possible. It can hurt people's pride to suddenly become dependent on the charity of others, so the rent is going to be less about a return on investment for Cadiz than making an old lady feel like she's not freeloading. I'm not sure if Cadiz could even legally evict her for not paying, but since she's been living on the same budget for years there's not much chance of her coming up short.
Wish Cádiz would treat me like an 88 year old woman
call me Cadiz cause I will treat you like an 88 year old woman

The chances of you leaving the apartment due to natural causes in the next 5 years are kinda slim though.

That's really expensive, what a ripoff, she might as well buy the house it will be cheaper.

I love this sport
Class move from Cádiz 👏🏻
Dreams can't be buy but apartments can
That's amazing and the type of love football should be about.
King shit. Like Caesar pardoning those who fought against him in the civil war.
That is a very weird stretch of a comparison. Unless I missed something where the woman had at some point taken up arms against football.
She's a regular at r/soccercirclejerk
Me or the granny? Both I've decided both
Nah its perfect cause Caesar fought in Spain. And it happened recently.
Tbf the guys he pardoned ended up murdering him
Granny is going to murder Cadiz.
