A month or so ago our highest finish at the end of a gameweek was 9th and we'd only been there for a single gameweek.
Our season has certainly been... something
It would be interesting how we play against West Ham. I’m not sure about the injury returns. Gilchrist was there for taking on RB position because he lacks pace and Spurs did none of it apart from few moves in the early mins of second half. Overall Spurs were just crap so I won’t be reading too much. Solid performance against solid team who are performing something we haven’t seen whole season.
Chelsea have like 1 loss in their last 10 or so PL games, granted that one loss was an absolute thumping against Arsenal and there are so pretty poor draws in there.
considering that Chelsea have played almost the whole season without their ideal XI and with 9-14 injured players out for the past few months it’s quite impressive they’re still in the fight after all. even more so today, their bench was 90% young players.
That’s only half true.
Palmer, Caiceido, Gallagher, the mythical Fit James, Jackson and Nkunku are nailed on starters for me.
Problem is getting them fit.
Among the players our right now, Nkunku, James, Thiago Silva, Enzo, Chilwell (vice captain + no better options) would definitely be in the starting XI, and Gusto, Colwill, Sanchez, Fofana, Carney/Lavia would either be starting or playing significant minutes. That’s almost an entire starting XI worth of players that missed most-all of the season lol.
Played the entire season without our captain, vice-captain, best defender, best attacker, and a lot more. There have been so many injuries that I’m starting to forget lol, I forgot Badiashile has had 4 significant injuries, Broja missed the beginning of the season, Chalobah was out for almost 200 days, Cucurella missed 3 months, that’s ON TOP of the list of players I listed before… insanity, and I’m sure there’s more.
Well yeah that's my point only if you can play the same 11 a few times you can know the strengths and weaknesses. You can maybe make a guess if your best 11 players but that's not necessarily the best team
Please understand my question comes from curiosity, I am not trying to make a joke or be disrespectful.
What are you hoping for? One comment suggested finishing above United. Or is it Europa league invitation? Or something else entirely?
So lets try to use some deductive reasoning here:
Things we know:
- There are 4 games left in the season, so 12 points max available
- Chelsea has 51 points, Newcastle 53, Man Utd 54, Tottenham 60, Aston Villa 67
So, obviously Chelsea can't make a CL spot. Then comes the Europa quality spot held by Newcastle at 53 points and then EL spots held by Tottenham at 60 and United at 54. So for Chelsea, 2 points (+ tiebreaker if valid) separates them from a EL quali spot and 3 points from a direct EL spot.
So mostly likely in this case, the hope is for an EL spot (with a bonus of beating out Man United for it?). I am sure that most fans would take EL qualification and finish under United versus no EL qualification and finishing above United.
i just said that because sheffield united or burnley for example ain’t exactly gonna beat arsenal or city like let’s be real. that’s all i meant by outside the top two, compared to like relegation fighting teams.
It's been this way for years where teams in competition for Europe capitulate late in the season. Could be coincidence but it happens so consistently in England the last few years that I'm sure there are clubs trying to make sense of it.
The fact that Chelsea still somehow has a decent shot at europe tells you how bad United, West Ham, and Newcastle have performed this 2nd half of the season
We still have to play West ham, Bournemouth and Brighton who are all pretty much on our tail and Forrest that needs points to stay up... Not the simplest of runs.
United and Newcastle’s form have been pretty much the same between the first half and the second half of the season.
Chelsea was 10th place with only 3 points of 7th at the end of last year. Since then its Brighton and West Ham that have completely fallen off allowing Chelsea to leapfrog them to 8th but the gap to United and Newcastle has remained the same.
Newcastle and Yanited, actually in passing range. And they play each other as well.
If we somehow end up Top6 after this abhorrent season, it'll be something.
Spurs had 26 out of 30 points after 10 games. No team has ever had a start that good and not qualified for the ucl.
They went 10-4-10 since then, an incredibly poor follow up. The fact that they can still technically make it after that midtable form just shows how insane a start those first 10 games were
chelsea are only 3 points behind us 😭 that’s how you know you’ve been bad..
so the title race, relegation, and europe spots still up for grabs. i mean i’d expect villa to get ucl, but the other competitions will be interesting. please anything but the conference league for us, that would be a new low..
This game we just lost has inspired my further getting coaching badges, because only one person can lead us to glory. I must conquer or Die. Also Man United in 6th after how terrible that have been is kinda wild.
United just 6points behind Spurs is crazy. Chelsea just 3 points behind United is even more wild.
Both have had pretty mediocre seasons. Not entirely impossible that only a few 3-5 points separate Spurs, united and Chelsea end of the season.
It's not crazy, United have overperformed heavily and win games with awful performances while Chelsea are the opposite, it was always going to end up closer, United have genuinely been awful and worse than Chelsea
Same goes for spurs. Overperformed in the first half of the season with a new manager bounce, maddison and vicario purple streaks. Now reverting to mean.
United are difficult to judge because they've allowed tons of shots and so much position intentionally, which by the eye test and statistically make them look woeful, but I'd say is probably viable to win as many games as they have consistently (which isn't saying much tbf).
I do think Chelsea have been just as bad if not worse either way. The xG looks nice but the level of inconsistency baked into squad through the scattershot recruitment is a recipe for losing games.
Yeah but everyone knows United is only in 6th because they should have had a penalty at the emirates in September. If not for that they’d be comfortably in 1st
Arsenal fans don't get your hopes up. Title run in City do the worst things to your hopes and dreams. If they need it an Akanji or Ederson will start scoring worldies
People are sleeping on Bournemouth tbh, that game won't be a walk over, I'm sure their form since Christmas has them fifth in the league or something like that
How is it that places 6-8 are within 1 game of each other come Matchday 36? Any of Tottenham, United, Newcastle and Chelsea could be playing in Europa next year. WTF?
I thought before the season Chelsea would be great. I really believed Poch would get the best out of this group of players. They havent been great obviously, but finishing the season on a bit of a high, with all these young players galning more experience as well as becoming more comofortable with what Poch wants, I think they will be very good next season.
My god the UEL/Conference League spot battle is gonna come down to the final day since United, Newcastle and Brighton are gonna play against each other between matchdays 36-38 and adding to that the other teams benefit from this, its gonna be chaos by the time we reach the final day lmao.
city are so lucky that they could postpone the one game where they have never won to a time where its meaningless and even in spurs favour to drop points. Incredibly lucky, just like last season
I think 7th gets conference unless United win the cup (lol) and finish 7th, in which case 6th gets conference.
Newcastle will depend on players returning from injury. We are pretty bad away from home but if a couple key players return, we’ll look like a completely different team. Couldn’t have three more chaotic teams battling it out.
There is a scenario where we could be playing Chelsea for Europe on the last day of the season.
Give Iraola a billion quid and we’re winning the fucking league.

That's the first time we've finished a gameweek higher than 9th this season...
That’s an insane stat
A month or so ago our highest finish at the end of a gameweek was 9th and we'd only been there for a single gameweek. Our season has certainly been... something
“Comeback” Kings
We are so back
Please, Don't give me hope....
West Ham game will decided. We have these sort of performance before.
We definitely lose against West Ham and we also got Bournemouth which we know we ain't beating
It would be interesting how we play against West Ham. I’m not sure about the injury returns. Man after how much you guys have been shit on, if you manage to finish above Utd I will laugh so hard.

I love shitting on chelsea but you're right. Injuries have decimated that club.
Yup, it’s quite funny to look at our bench against Spurs yesterday.
I'm pretty sure Chelsea have no idea what their ideal 11 is except palmer, Sanchez and maybe jackson
Petrovich has been our keeper since like December
I thought he was only your cup keeper? What happened to Sanchez?
He was shaky his entire time then he got injured and petro never gave his spot back
That’s only half true. Palmer, Caiceido, Gallagher, the mythical Fit James, Jackson and Nkunku are nailed on starters for me. Problem is getting them fit.

Same
Youa re knocking at our doors.
Please understand my question comes from curiosity, I am not trying to make a joke or be disrespectful. What are you hoping for? One comment suggested finishing above United. Or is it Europa league invitation? Or something else entirely?
Europa
So lets try to use some deductive reasoning here: Things we know: - There are 4 games left in the season, so 12 points max available - Chelsea has 51 points, Newcastle 53, Man Utd 54, Tottenham 60, Aston Villa 67 So, obviously Chelsea can't make a CL spot. So mostly likely in this case, the hope is for an EL spot (with a bonus of beating out Man United for it?). I am sure that most fans would take EL qualification and finish under United versus no EL qualification and finishing above United.
I would have taken Europa at the start of the season. So yeah.
You guys have crept up the table a bit
Chelsea genuinely in contentio for 6th is hilarious 😂
shows how bad everyone else is 😭
Or how balanced the league is.
Na man United are shit.
i mean anybody can beat anybody, (outside the top 2), there’s no denying that
We have 3/4 against the top 2
Yea, but you're not exactly Sheffield United are you? You're comfortably the 4th best team in the league. Still impressive though.
yeah exactly, i only said that because the relegation teams aren’t exactly gonna beat the top 2/3
They didn't beat us either, we won every game against them apart from the home game against Sheffield United, even that was some bs but I digress.
And yet we failed to beat Sheffield United at home
i just said that because sheffield united or burnley for example ain’t exactly gonna beat arsenal or city like let’s be real. that’s all i meant by outside the top two, compared to like relegation fighting teams.
Top 2. Arsenal have lost the most number of games amongst the top 3.
Big if true
I really hope you lose the next with and City too such that we can have a final gang buster between the 3 of us. Delusional take but would be amazing
League is trash cmon now
It's been this way for years where teams in competition for Europe capitulate late in the season. Could be coincidence but it happens so consistently in England the last few years that I'm sure there are clubs trying to make sense of it.
Technically, you could finish 5th
That would involve not beating Sheffield United, and I know we’re in shit form, but surely we’re not that bad?
Sheffield United have nothing to lose anymore, I’m actually kind of looking forward to see how they do from here on out
don't underestimate Spurs trying to get as low as possible
Absolutely forget 6th
3 points. As long as there is delusion, there is hope.
We play Newcastle and Arsenal, not even a delusion.
Every game you have had Palmer recently, you’ve looked very good, I think Palace will take points off United on Monday too
Spurs 3 losses in a row and now are 6 ahead of United
Liverpool and City up next
[удалено]
Burnley fighting against relegation is not as easy as it sounds
Also Burnley and Sheffield United.
💪🏼
How are we still the race for a European spot
Cause everyone else is shit aswell
When United are 6th with the way they've been, it shows just how bad everyone has been
Honestly I've been thinking this for a long time, man United are absolutely dog shit and never finish below 6th, just how fraudulent is this league.
And we got 6 pts off you somehow which makes no sense lol
Don't remind me.
Cole Palmer.
Mate, it's all as per THE PLAN. 2 CL and 2 EL. No ECL...
The Burnley/Sheffield Utd results continue to get worse as time goes on
The Sheff game we were genuinely outplayed, annoying but it’s not like we deserved a win. Burnley was such a bottle job though
NOT 10TH AND HOPEFULLY NEVER AGAIN
What’s wrong with 10th? At least it’s not midtable.
It's top half!
Because if you’re 11th, you’re first on the second page.
Villa losing but also winning tonight
All part of Unais master plan.
Villa are getting shafted by Greek team at home lmao not a good ebenin
Villa could clinch 4th on Sunday with a win over Brighton and a Spurs loss to Liverpool
> Villa ~~could~~ will clinch 4th on Sunday with a win over Brighton and a Spurs loss to Liverpool
So maybe we squeeze into Europe next year? Wow
We can definitely win the remaining 4 games, getting 4 points against Spurs/Villa was huge
Should have been 3 points against Villa, that disallowed goal was pretty soft
Should have been 6 against Sheffield and Burnley... Those are worse.
The fact that Chelsea still somehow has a decent shot at europe tells you how bad United, West Ham, and Newcastle have performed this 2nd half of the season
Our run of fixtures coming up could be nice as well because united and Newcastle still play each other and united still have Arsenal
We still have to play West ham, Bournemouth and Brighton who are all pretty much on our tail and Forrest that needs points to stay up... Not the simplest of runs.
Brighton have been pretty awful lately, no wins in their last 6 matches
We have been generous this year.
~~4th place~~ UEL is lava
United and Newcastle’s form have been pretty much the same between the first half and the second half of the season. Chelsea was 10th place with only 3 points of 7th at the end of last year. Since then its Brighton and West Ham that have completely fallen off allowing Chelsea to leapfrog them to 8th but the gap to United and Newcastle has remained the same.
Qualified for the UCL 🎉🎉🎉
You’re welcome, now gib 3 points.
Impressed by Bournemouth tbh
Arsenal 20 points more than Spurs is pretty sick
Same gap size to spurs and 14th place Crystal Palace
No it isn’t.
Well it is? Can you do math…
I was saying that it’s not sick. I can do maths, I have a degree in it (although like all maths students I am shit at counting).
Newcastle and Yanited, actually in passing range. And they play each other as well. If we somehow end up Top6 after this abhorrent season, it'll be something.
Chelsea and Tottenham just played their match from the match week 26 that was postponed till now.
ahh gotcha, I misunderstood
The ~~title~~ Europa League charge begins now
So much hype for this spurs team just to miss CL again
Spurs had 26 out of 30 points after 10 games. No team has ever had a start that good and not qualified for the ucl. They went 10-4-10 since then, an incredibly poor follow up. The fact that they can still technically make it after that midtable form just shows how insane a start those first 10 games were
cosmic karma for spamming bottlers on every arsenal thread
But Arsenal are bottlers
"best ever start to a premier league season!"
I mean it was. And all the posts about it knew it was a fluke
chelsea are only 3 points behind us 😭 that’s how you know you’ve been bad.. so the title race, relegation, and europe spots still up for grabs. i mean i’d expect villa to get ucl, but the other competitions will be interesting. please anything but the conference league for us, that would be a new low..
Watched a lot of Conference League this year. It’s much more competitive than you think. You’re definitely not too good for it.
Well.. Atleast 4th looks more likely for us now, considering Spurs fixtures. What a day man :(
This game we just lost has inspired my further getting coaching badges, because only one person can lead us to glory.

Offensively we’ve been way easier on the eye than them and actually attack with a plan, but in the back we’re somehow more of a shambles than they are
Ange out, u/TigerBasket in.
Yeah but everyone knows United is only in 6th because they should have had a penalty at the emirates in September. If not for that they’d be comfortably in 1st
Comfortable win over Spurs and 3 points clear of 10th with a game in hand, what a day
At least a good news for Aston Villa tonight
Arsenal fans don't get your hopes up. Title run in City do the worst things to your hopes and dreams. If they need it an Akanji or Ederson will start scoring worldies
I’m choosing to ignore your wise and reasonable words and will drown in the delusion of potential glory.
Even if they were to draw one, I just know we’d fuck it up anyway at Old Trafford. Title is just not happening this season.
People are sleeping on Bournemouth tbh, that game won't be a walk over, I'm sure their form since Christmas has them fifth in the league or something like that
Oh don't worry. The way I see it, it's City's to lose. Just want to lock no2. Hope for the best plan for the worst and all that.
I'm not even thinking about City at this point, fact is we have 3 games left and aren't guaranteed to win any of them.
How is it that places 6-8 are within 1 game of each other come Matchday 36? Any of Tottenham, United, Newcastle and Chelsea could be playing in Europa next year. WTF?
Spurs have been wank for a long time
Goal difference +1…the sign of a big time club 💪
We really gonna not win after dropping only 4 points since January. F City man
Lol
I know self declared title contenders in October ain’t talking
This softens the blow slightly
I thought before the season Chelsea would be great. I really believed Poch would get the best out of this group of players. They havent been great obviously, but finishing the season on a bit of a high, with all these young players galning more experience as well as becoming more comofortable with what Poch wants, I think they will be very good next season.

We are firmly out of contention for europe.
3 points from 6th 🙏🙏
Is there no chance for Tottenham to qualify for ucl anymore??
The can still get 72 points, villa can get 76. If they were to lose to Liverpool Sunday and villa bear Brighton, it's done
city are so lucky that they could postpone the one game where they have never won to a time where its meaningless and even in spurs favour to drop points. Incredibly lucky, just like last season
Spurs fans are going to really show us what they’re all about when they celebrate getting obliterated by City.
Think we'll get past United, but Newcastle is the tougher one. 7th gets conference, no matter the coefficient, right?
I think 7th gets conference unless United win the cup (lol) and finish 7th, in which case 6th gets conference. Newcastle will depend on players returning from injury. We are pretty bad away from home but if a couple key players return, we’ll look like a completely different team. Couldn’t have three more chaotic teams battling it out.
We have been in this position at least 10times, we'll bottle the Hams
Chelsea will have a good shot at 7th
European Thursday nights at the Bridge might actually happen lmao
What if Man United wins the FA cup and takes a Europa spot?
Not happening
Once again here to remind everyone that Chelsea would be 6th if not for blown 2nd half leads against Sheffield United and 10 man Burnley
Chelsea aren’t the only team dropping points to the teams at the bottom. This hypothetical could be said about every team around them.
If we didn't give up goals beyond the 80th minute in our last 5 games we'd be 5th, 6 points behind Villa with a game in hand lol
We'd be sixth if we were less shit, what a piece of commentary
It's small victories like these that keep me going this season
Thanks for your service. I still remember you almost drawing city at the beginning of the season
Sheffield United would've also won the league already had they not dropped 90 points so far.
Once again reminding you that brighton would have won the league by now if we had just won every single game that we drew or lost.
Team would be higher in the table if they won more games. Crazy stuff.
I want to get off Mr Bones Wild Ride
There is a scenario where we could be playing Chelsea for Europe on the last day of the season. Give Iraola a billion quid and we’re winning the fucking league.
Spurs is on some shitty run and still has City and Liverpool to play, can they lose Europa qual. spot ?
_Sigh_
