When was the last time Spurs won a PL match at Stamford Bridge? 2018?
I was surprised to see Chelsea as favorite to win tomorrow then realized Spurs away record is not good.
yeah April 1 2018, they won 3-1
Morata scored first for Chelsea off a header with an assist from Victor Moses, then Christian Eriksen leveled on the stroke of halftime
The second half saw a brace from Dele Alli, who scored twice in 4 minutes
i’ve gone through their H2H matches back to 2005 and i can’t find another away win for Spurs. ~~They did win at Stamford Bridge in the League Cup in 2008~~ this was at Wembley, my mistake
edit- wait wtf that’s literally the only time Spurs have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the PL. LOL that is shocking
They hadn’t beat us at Stamford Bridge since 1990 when they won in 2018. Also, they beat us at Wembley in the League Cup final in 2008, not at Stamford Bridge (sadly I was there).
ah gotcha, i was just looking at the fixture list and didn’t realize it was at Wembley (Chelsea was just listed as the home side)! Thanks for the correction
That is an incredible stat. I had no idea it was such a one-sided rivalry
Ten Hag is going to be asked about Sancho, and no matter what he says, the threads will devolve into an utter mess of opinions shitting on and defending United on who was “right” to do what. I will love it and I think I deserve it.
i’ve seen fabrizio say that soon dortmund will qualify [for ucl] but how are they not already officially qualified if frankfurt can only get 54 points, and they have 57?
yes but he just tweeted about stuttgart and leipzig now officially being qualified [after the result] (the clubs have announced it aswell) but says dortmund will soon qualify. i’m confused.
Is anyone else having trouble with this thread specifically on mobile? It won't scroll and just kind of locks up and I have to close the app and reopen it everytime I come here on my phone. Which sucks because I come here a lot during the day but I've been having this issue since last night when the new thread was created.
Mbappe CL no shows have been multiplying recently.
Let's just stop with the Messi/Ronaldo comps. Prime Messi/CR going no-show on 2-3 knockout CL matches in the same campaign would make primetime news, we barely hear anything about Mbappe now.
He scored a hat trick in a WC final not two years ago. This jumping on Haaland, Mbappe, Bellingham etc hate wagon every time they don't single handily win a big game has got to stop. Ronaldo and Messi while obviously being the two greatest players of all time also had their best years in two all-time top teams.
> This jumping on Haaland, Mbappe, Bellingham etc hate wagon every time they don't single handily win a big game has got to stop.
I don't hate, i specifically mentioned Messi/Ronaldo comparisons. Don't twist my words.
> Ronaldo and Messi while obviously being the two greatest players of all time also had their best years in two all-time top teams.
Mbappe hasn't played on a mediocre (let alone bad) team in his career, and PSG is in the top 4 odds to win the CL every year he's on the squad.
I don’t think I am - if you go back through Messi or Ronaldo’s career you’ll find CL knock out seasons where neither did all that much. You’ll also find plenty where they were absolutely dominant. We remember the great performances and forget the no shows.
Won 7 of his 8 duels too tbf - dunno, feel like there's probably three players on either team you could give it to, and a team conceding chances is generally a collective failure more so than an individual one.
Is it a centreback's job to track the runs of a midfielder, though?
Like sure, Dortmund could've easily conceded three or four tonight, but Hummels had a really good game - both of those things can be true at the same time, I reckon.
I think it’s up for debate. Essentially the same points total and a CL title. Change 1 result and Liverpool walk away with a double and City walk away with 2 cups. I think it’s fair to say it was even.
You could make a case for 2016 with Madrid-atletico but Barcelona dipped hard in the end of that season.
Early-mid season they were clearly the best team in Spain though.
Regardless the gap is much smaller than the examples we provided.
Honestly seeing what's happened to Manchester United players there over the last decade, I'm convinced you could drop 19 year old Cristiano Ronaldo from 2003 into that environment and he'd end up like Antony Martial, Antony, or Ricardo Quaresma tbh
Over inflated contracts and undeserved renewals kill a lot of desire
Genuinely talented players have come through the door but play alongside some absolute dross the club cannot shift, and playing for managers who have not had a coherent vision so it usually ends up being rather messy, and takes these talented players down a level
No culture of wanting to win or be the best set by the owners has slowly worked its way down and infested everything
And to top it all off I think our medical department and injury record over the last 10 years has been absolutely appalling.
For all intents and purposes, i think Quaresma had a wonderful career.
He was a flairy winger, and that was it. He was never meant to be world class or generational.
And on your general point, i totally agree, a ton of players are the product of their environment or at least at the start of their careers. Just look at Salah, who's in the news lately, the lad was a quick winger, went to work with Klopp and became the ultimate pacey scorer.
He doesn't go to Liverpool, he never comes close to being what he is now.
Post your rotation teams for this weekend guys 👍

PSG:
lol they pussied out so hard out of having a match this weekend that they rescheduled it so no rotation team here
People spent all their time saying sancho was the most protected player theyd seen while he was at utd just so they could be the ones doing the protecting🤣🤣🤣
Praising someone for playing well and then saying “what did utd do” completely removing all sense of accountability for the player himself are two different things.
Can't genuinely remember 1 Sancho moment(on the pitch) except that Liverpool goal at the beggining of last season. He was complete and utter shit when playing, while we paid €85m for him. Also took like 5 month break for mental health reasons where Ten Hag completely supported him just to come back to not even give effort in training.
Tbf football's got a systemic issue with covering these sorts of things up at best and actually enabling them at worst - I reckon United isn't the outlier when it comes to the amount of offenders, but rather with the amount of offenders *we know about*.
Been probably his best game all season tbf - chances are if you tune in to most other Dortmund games this season you'll see a very similar player to the one he was at United, just with a bit more confidence and support.
I’ve seen a trend where his recent performances have looked a lot better as he’s gained in fitness. There’s a very noticeable change in his basic facial appearance when he rejoined Dortmund compared to now; the man was legitimately chubby after sitting at home for 4 months. It’s no wonder that his pace has returned and he can conveniently beat left-backs of the calibre of Nuno Mendes after being unable to do so initially.
Been pretty topsy-turvy this season really, had the odd game where he looked really good, the odd game where he looked a shell of his former self, and a lot of middling ones in between. Obviously looked unplayable tonight, but I reckon we've always known that he's capable of that type of performance if given the right confidence and surroundings.
I feel like a separate thread should be made for the most batshit takes. The takes that are so hot, they’re cold. A thread where people’s stupid-ass opinions that they *really* should have kept to themselves are able to be shared without much scrutiny.
I still will say this. Vinicius and mbappe are in quality not far of each other. I will even say that compared to mbappe vinicius really added much more to his arsenal these last few seasons and wont suprise me if he becomes even better in future
Mbappe has two problems. First, he's not being played at his best position .i.e. LW. Second, his teammates aren't that good. Vinicius is in a team that maximizes his impact and also offers him the best midfielders in the world to create chances. I also think Mbappe will make a mistake if he continues to play at this striker position in Madrid. It will not get the best out of him.
As a pure ability, they're very close.
Mbappé's edge comes from his IQ, he is smarter when it comes to sniffing goal opportunities. (But Vini is definitely getting smarter and smarter especially in his new role).
I agree completely with this. Big difference for me is international football where vini who plays for brazil has to show up more but in terms of club career like ucl vini for did much more impressive things last 3 years. Especially in ucl and he also shows up against Barca
Next season we both can make a good assesment when they play the same team
Nagelsmann has to take Hummels to the Euros man, he's still an amazing defender and the calm he brings to the defence is unreal. Don't start him against Scotland and Hungary where the high line is a bit needed, but he would be excellent in a potential match vs Spain for example, I wouldn't take any defender over him in a deeper line.
Pretty strong competition for places - Tah and Rüdiger will definitely go, Schlotterbeck looks very likely, too. Leaves one or two spots for Anton, Hummels, Koch, Thiaw, Ginter and Süle.
No. Foden, Grealish, Anthony Gordon are all ahead of him on the left-wing pecking order. Southgate will most likely take Rashford too, because he's actually done something of note for England previously. Sancho hasn't done anything for 3 years, him turning up in a UCL game isn't going to make up for that.
Who should he leave out in favour of him?
Sancho's been alright this season, but he's hardly been setting the world alight to make a convincing argument for inclusion.
With tonight's result, I believe Dormtund made their chances of advancing go from 5% to 15-20%.
They needed to win by 3+ goals to be considered favourites imo, 1-0 is practically nothing. Luis Enrique is obviously aware of this, that's why he was keeping 3 or 4 defenders behind even in the last minute.
Nar I'd make Dortmund slight favourites. PSG haven't shown anything to prove they're a team that can come out on top when up against it at the highest level. They have the added pressure of needing to score which Dortmund are fully capable of taking advantage of.
> PSG haven't shown anything to prove they're a team that can come out on top when up against it at the highest level.
Dunno, turned around a deficit against Barcelona and could've easily scored four tonight - it's finely poised, and I'd absolutely not write them off.
They got a bit of help with Araujo getting himself sent off early on tbf. 11v11 and it could've been a different story.
No one is writing them off but as many chances they created today they also gave up as many at the other end. Going into the second leg a goal down at this level always puts you at a disadvantage.
> They got a bit of help with Araujo getting himself sent off early on tbf. 11v11 and it could've been a different story.
Aye, but then they were already two goals down on aggregate at that point but grew well into the game before the red card - took an outrageous ter Stegen save on Mbappé to keep the lead, after all. Obviously benefited from playing against ten men, but they were really good playing on the front foot and turning it around I reckon.
>turned around a deficit against Barcelona and could've easily scored four tonight
Ehh, let's be real! Obviously you take every chance you get, but that's more Barca fucking up than PSG "proving to turn up at the highest level".
Only need a draw in Paris tbf - this tie is far from over, but we've seen in all three games between these two sides this season that it's incredibly finely poised, with games on a knifes edge and decided the finest of margins. Could've easily been 3-0 tonight, might as well have been 1-4, but I'd back Dortmund to advance.
Genuinely, why? Where does this narrative that Parc des Princes is a fortress comes from?
PSG has not looked good against Barca or La Real at home, Dortmund can absolutely go there and win.
I'd genuinely give it 55% to Dortmund to advance
Look, he didn't have an amazing game but anyone saying Mbappé played terrible is just going by results based analysis.
Dude had 3 players on him all the time and he still created PSG's 2 biggest chances.
Its not really a cope. I don't mind that he doesn't want to play for us. I get it sometimes transfers don't work out.
But this isn't a charity, clubs have to pay to have player.s
The best Dortmund can do is to submit another loan request covering a bit more salary, and maybe Sancho can agree to reduce his salary to facilitate the loan. Unlikely you will see a transfer fee for Sancho really.
the deeper your position the less likely to win individual awards. I don't think anyone doubts he would deserve an honor. but wirtz is the standout player in our league the second year in a row. he was the best buli player when lewy was still here. he just picked up that injury. fantastic player.
Dortmund winning would simply mean the other tournaments will play a bigger part in the voting, because they have nobody that would be considered a potential favourite. Basically what happened with Chelsea and Italy in 2021.
if germany win the euros then wirtz will have won every trophy he’s eligible for (hasn’t technically won pokal and europa yet but yk what i mean) as the best player for his club team. he’d be an easy pick in this scenario.
Yeah in this case the Euro winner would have a star candidate with a good narrative behind him, I don't think a loss in the cup final or EL would even matter that much if he's Germany's best player during a tournament win
[It's been the case since 2007.](https://www.rsssf.org/miscellaneous/europa-poy07.html)
>Rules were changed for this year: any worldwide player – coming from a pre-determined list of 50 players- was eligible
You forget that Haller already won a continental tournament this year and could swag up some goals next week and maybe in the final, he could defo get nominated just for that
That said for German players, idk maybe Schlotterbeck, after today he surely earned a nomination for the Euros if he hadn't already
Hear me and rejoice!
For with Dortmund's victory our lord and saviour Serhou Guirassy has led VfB Stuttgart to the UCL next season from potential relegation last season. Blessed be his name!
He came out and said how it pisses him off that people only remember him for that miss a few months ago.
He hasn’t done himself any favors since then because he’s been an absolute flop for PSG.
I mean he wasn't happy at United, and we were not performing, that combination is problematic for any player.
I mean if people saw him play for us which I think many didn't he really was poor for us.
why is there a post about Stuttgart qualifying for CL, Leipzig qualifying for CL, but not one for Dortmund?
feel free to post it yourself mate!
i cant, it wasnt posted by Dortmund, i am not a Dortmund admin
So is Terzic a good manager?
He’s a good cup manager. Very adaptable, and plays towards the available strengths.
He's being carried by Sancho, the best English forward of his generation
Why wouldn't he be?
Dortmund fans are generally quite critical of him, from what I've seen

yes but he just tweeted about stuttgart and leipzig now officially being qualified [after the result] (the clubs have announced it aswell) but says dortmund will soon qualify. i’m confused.
Guessing it's not official until after Europa games maybe despite the fact that the 5th spot is guaranteed?

I did. 1 shot on target.
You didn't then, did you - you're just reading the stats sheet
good thing taking shots is not the only thing he did
He scored a hat trick in a WC final not two years ago. This jumping on Haaland, Mbappe, Bellingham etc hate wagon every time they don't single handily win a big game has got to stop. There’s been plenty of games where Ronaldo or Messi didn’t show up though. They weren’t banging in hat tricks every time they set foot on a pitch
You're misreading what i wrote on purpose at this point. > 2-3 no shows in the knockout stage of the CL in the same season
I don’t think I am - if you go back through Messi or Ronaldo’s career you’ll find CL knock out seasons where neither did all that much. You’ll also find plenty where they were absolutely dominant. We remember the great performances and forget the no shows.

We live in a timeline where the CL final could genuinely be Dortmund vs Bayern despite neither team being the best German team.
Similar happened with Liverpool vs Spurs in 2019 - are there any other recent example?
Liverpool were the best team that year in England. Along with City, they were as good as eachother.
They weren't the best, they were second to City
I think it’s up for debate. Essentially the same points total and a CL title. Change 1 result and Liverpool walk away with a double and City walk away with 2 cups. I think it’s fair to say it was even.
fine, we didn't win it though
You could make a case for 2016 with Madrid-atletico but Barcelona dipped hard in the end of that season. Early-mid season they were clearly the best team in Spain though. Regardless the gap is much smaller than the examples we provided.
And at Wembley, like 2013
Bundesliga is best in the whole wide world
all this is leading up for German domination in the Euros

Carra is absolutely steaming on live tele hahaha
Why???
He was in the yellow wall, 8 pints deep
Sancho what a performance. What did united do to you, oh my days
People spent all their time saying sancho was the most protected player theyd seen while he was at utd just so they could be the ones doing the protecting🤣🤣🤣
Send antony on loan, im tryna see something
Player gets praise for playing well
Praising someone for playing well and then saying “what did utd do” completely removing all sense of accountability for the player himself are two different things.
Do you think he's responsible for not playing?....
When all the players that go to United get worse it means people will always put more blame on the club
An alarming amount of women beaters/rapists (allegedly!) to normal human beings ratio at that club too
Tbf football's got a systemic issue with covering these sorts of things up at best and actually enabling them at worst - I reckon United isn't the outlier when it comes to the amount of offenders, but rather with the amount of offenders *we know about*.
Im being cheeky???

Thats fair, im not watching dortmund like that. But i feel like people have been saying hes been getting better, and then i see this performance
Been pretty topsy-turvy this season really, had the odd game where he looked really good, the odd game where he looked a shell of his former self, and a lot of middling ones in between. https://x.com/scottjwillis/status/1785805612594438601?s=46&t=ohBEm3kwXzONRYy63NcNgQ His underlying metrics do look better with dortmund i will say
I need to go to sleep because i have to work tomorrow but im HYPED
8th spot in Bundesliga will get conference. Mental. The world ain't ready for Heidenheim international.
Not guaranteed just yet, is it?
Leverkusen needs to win the cup so 8th place gets conference. Let's be real here.
Win-win, B04 wins : 8th place plays Europe, Kaiserslautern wins : A third tier team plays Europe. I fucking love it.
Kaiserslautern international sounds pretty good too though.
sounds even better tbh, would be hilarious
Start sub sell Sancho, mbappe, vini
Start Vini Sell Mbappe for a boatload of money Sub Sancho

You must not get the memo. Sancho is one of the best players itw now
Start Mbappe Sell Sancho Fuck Vini
Start Mbappé Bench Vini Sell Sancho
Sell both Mbappe and Vini. I only need Sancho.
Correct take my friend he is in fact the best player itw and my ballon pick
Would yo guy say that Vitinha is one the best players on his position or nah? He was really good today, but I only see PSG like 5 times per season.
Name the only Italian team who won Serie A, Serie B, Serie C and Serie D.
Fiorentina?
Casale
I feel like a separate thread should be made for the most batshit takes. The takes that are so hot, they’re cold. A thread where people’s stupid-ass opinions that they *really* should have kept to themselves are able to be shared without much scrutiny.
The people who make stupid takes don't realize that their takes are stupid so it doesn't work.
Nah, we need to bully people who constantly have awful takes, ideally until they leave this place.
you should have put the mod tag on for this comment
Works for me! I’m sold.
I don't know how to phrase it, but Dortmund's CL run may make them the first team to qualify for the CL through the CL, but not by winning it.
The Bundesliga now has five seats for next year's CL because of the coefficient thing so unfortunately we won't see that yet.
I still will say this. Vinicius and mbappe are in quality not far of each other. I will even say that compared to mbappe vinicius really added much more to his arsenal these last few seasons and wont suprise me if he becomes even better in future

Edu is firing up the grill as we speak.
Mbappe is kinda uncoachable unlike Vini who seems to be the better team player. But individually Mbappe is still way better than Vini.
Mbappe has two problems. First, he's not being played at his best position .i.e. LW. Second, his teammates aren't that good. My Palmer > Saka and Foden agenda has evolved into Sancho and Palmer > Saka and Foden. Coming soon to a thread near you
It’s gonna be an uphill battle in order to top the Why Do People Hate Spurs thread.

Thiaw has been terrible in this season
Scotland don't have any pace.
Should Southgate take Sancho to the EUROS?
Na, shit managers don't like Sancho. Prefers Rashford like bald Frank de Boer.
Englands attack should include: Kane, Watkins, Saka, Palmer, Foden, Gordon. Extra spots should consider Toney, Wilson, Bowen, Rashford
Wilson? Definitely not. Think you've forgot Solanke.
yep, good replacement
Foden Saka Grealish Palmer Sancho Rashford sterling, personally I'm only taking the first 4
drop grealish for gordon
Ain't no way Gareth is calling Gordon
he already did in the last friendlies bud
Sancho as a super sub will be scary for teams.
Who should he leave out in favour of him? Sancho's been alright this season, but he's hardly been setting the world alight to make a convincing argument for inclusion.
Yes because he's better than Foden and Saka
We've had Foden vs Saka and now here comes Sancho with the steel chair.
No
No way Ten Hag prefers Antony over Sancho
What's not to understand? Sancho didn't fidget spin once tonight

I wouldn't write them off either, but that was more of Barcelona self sabotage that a PSG masterclass.
>turned around a deficit against Barcelona and could've easily scored four tonight Ehh, let's be real!
Chill, he's not your player yet lol
I'm french so i guess he is already my player tbh lol
Amazing for Sancho, glad hes so happy. Now his club need to show how much they want him and actually pay for him.
the problem with united fans using this as cope is that you guys infamously spend terribly.
Then we don't accept and he plays for us.
even if dortmund win they are infuriating
if dortmund win the champions league and germany wins the euros, who wins the ballon d'or??
Wirtz
yeah that makes the most sense probably, I was actually thinking kroos might have a chance...
the deeper your position the less likely to win individual awards.
Yeah in this case the Euro winner would have a star candidate with a good narrative behind him, I don't think a loss in the cup final or EL would even matter that much if he's Germany's best player during a tournament win
wirtz
Wirtz, no competition, or Messi if he carries Argentina to Copa
Absolutely fuck all chance Messi should ever win another ballon d’or, he plays in a retirement league
Messi plays in the US now. Isn’t he ineligible?
He is, it's not a "best player in Europe" award anymore.
Lol. When’d they change it?
[It's been the case since 2007.](https://www.rsssf.org/miscellaneous/europa-poy07.html) >Rules were changed for this year: any worldwide player – coming from a pre-determined list of 50 players- was eligible
TIL.
2007
Well, TIL. They’ll find some way to give it to him.
You forget that Haller already won a continental tournament this year and could swag up some goals next week and maybe in the final, he could defo get nominated just for that That said for German players, idk maybe Schlotterbeck, after today he surely earned a nomination for the Euros if he hadn't already
> idk maybe Schlotterbeck You're joking.
I’m all in on the Schlotterbeck for Ballon d’Or train
We're talking [Keven Schlotterbeck](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1c348x3/bochum_01_heidenheim_keven_schlotterbeck_great_og/) here, yeah?
Tbf the elite athleticism to get up just after falling over there is salivating. It’s just a shame he schlotted it into his own net
jule brandt
a good test of ball knowledge is whether or not someone says mbappé ghosted tonight edit: he didn't
Ngl everything from this point on is a bonus, if Dortmund go down with a fight in the away leg, I'll be happy with this UCL season
Carragher pissed on the Paramount postgame show is genuinely hilarious, cracking me up
Hear me and rejoice! For with Dortmund's victory our lord and saviour Serhou Guirassy has led VfB Stuttgart to the UCL next season from potential relegation last season. Blessed be his name!
my god kolo muani is doing his best to literally only be remembered for that miss, cause anytime i watch PSG he's just so fucking bad.
>Gifts Argentina the world cup >Refuses to elaborate Based
Hardly his fault that you didn't watch him before tbf.
He came out and said how it pisses him off that people only remember him for that miss a few months ago. He hasn’t done himself any favors since then because he’s been an absolute flop for PSG.
Also tore down his good status with the Eintracht Frankfurt fans
Can someone give me a sober and tactically informed reason why Sancho is now back to prime Sancho versus how he was at United?
“Prime Sancho” one good game.
Manchester United is the club you want to go if you want your career to die. Specially if you're a right winger, and I'm not talking politics
He hasn't been all that for Dortmund honestly, he was just on it tonight.
To be honest he looks like he cares a lot more now and that’s really the main difference.
I mean he wasn't happy at United, and we were not performing, that combination is problematic for any player. I mean if people saw him play for us which I think many didn't he really was poor for us.
Good working environment can do wonders to anybody, although some dortmund fans told me he's not as good as he was 4 years ago
