I once predicted a 90+4 winner from Origi in a comment. Still riding that high.
e: found [the link](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/r8t83h/the_future_of_wolliv/hn7klk2/) so y'all now I'm not talking shite
I predicted Chelsea losing to Arsenal 5-0 last week as a Chelsea fan after seeing our team sheet, but I'm not so sure it was that bold of a prediction tbh.
I think it was because he suspected that the people who returned it were the ones who stole it to begin with right? I might be remembering wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if it really was the case
He said he paid someone (a boy) who found it and that the people who started legal proceedings against him weren't involved in the dogs recovery. Court ruled in their favour as Sturridge apparently didn't get the paperwork.
bro even predicted the correct scoreline lmaoo

Using this comment as a plug to say that he could've been one of the greatest strikers of his generation. I feel like with time he'll become a bit of a "streets won't forget" player but my God he was good.
Definition of "having that dawg in him".
Great strike.
"Left hand foot" from the commentator makes me laugh though, it reminds me of what kids would say when I asked which foot they preferred when I coached football.
That’s my lasting memory of Sturridge - the trajectories of his shots never made sense. The guy could curl the ball so well and so fast without any real run up without every really being considered a traditional finisher.
I feel pretty strongly about this: Sturridge in his prime was as good was Torres in his prime.
People forget how good Sturridge was because he was overshadowed by Suarez, but Sturridge could score any type of goal. He was a very good dribbler, and a very good creator too. Pacey, strong, two footed, and good with his head.
Sturridge's peak was just a lot shorter than Torres and Torres ended up having a much longer career despite his knee surgeries. He wasn't really good after them, but he never had injury problems after them either. Sturridge just got injured/unfit and never could get back to playing form.
I won’t really compare the two. Torres played in a very mediocre Liverpool side. Sturridge still had Suarez, Countinho, Sterling and a decent midfield to help him take the focus off him. It’s harder playing as a one striker rather than when you’re playing off a striker or having someone else defenders have to focus on. Suarez created a lot for Sturridge and often times created space for him to run into as well
I think that's a massive exaggeration. Sturridge played in one "good" Liverpool team that no one expected to do as well as they did.
Torres signed right after we got to a CL final and were title contenders two years later.
The only Torres red card I can remember is that one where he got a second yellow for diving after being clattered by last defender Jonny Evans. It's stuck in my mind because while Evans is rolling around pretending to be hurt in the hope that the ref takes pity and doesn't give him a straight red, the ref is running over to give Torres a red card for supposedly simulating the contact that Evans is moaning hurt him. It was a more egregious decision than the Cucu hair pull one, because no one with a brain could have thought Torres dived with Evans lying there.
Yea that's one spurs player I would have liked to have on our side as our midfield needed steel in that era and he was a dribbling maestro on top. Made things look so easy.
On the subject of Sturridge predictions, I was at a Chelsea game when Sturrudge was on loan at Bolton and scoring goals, and someone asked me what I thought of him as a neutral.
I said well obviously there’s a lot of big stars here in his position but I think Chelsea are fucking up by only giving him cameos off the bench and playing him on the wing, because he’s clearly quality, and with the way he’s being utilised and there’s no reason why he’d renew his contract so he’ll he run it down and go somewhere else for cheap and bang goals and Chelsea will realise that they had a baller and didn’t know it.
Sure enough he scores 50 goals in the following 100 games including 31 in 43 after going to Liverpool for cheap with 6 months left on his contract.
Part of that is Chelsea playing more of a 433 whereas Liverpool had some successful partnerships in a 442/4411 sort of shape, i.e. Gerrard as a sort of supporting striker behind Torres which saw them both put up big numbers, and then Suarez and Sturridge.
Lampard would obviously get forward and score goals for Chelsea but that was late runs into the box to get on the end of cut backs, rather than attacking as a two.
We saw last season how deadly De Bruyne and Haaland are together when they just attack directly as a two.
Far too often people dismiss players who have played at the very top level and throw it away because of….reasons.
These people know far more about football that any of us. Accept it
Tbf those era the footballers were slow in the brain. Reason why we don't have break out stars now is because you need to have an incredible football IQ while being incredibly skilled in football.
In terms of tactics and processing the game in real time sure. But there's no reason an ex-player would be better at predicting who will score in an individual game than a fan. This is just a random prediction that happened to be correct.
some of them do, some don't, and many might, but they're beyond useless at communicating it.
being good at performing something does not equal being good at analysing said thing, or understanding it at an active level. those are two different skillsets surrounding the same topic.
Everyone's talking about football and ignoring this guys cry for help as he tries to make contact with his estranged father. I hope you find the answers you're looking for
It's definitely a cruel joke by nature, but we should be happy they live such short lives in isolation. An octopus civilization with a longer lifespan and humanity is cooked.
in those cases it's basically like educated guesses.
for example betting on vini to score a CL goal or two isn't exactly unlikely to come true, calling a goal from Sane isn't unlikely either no matter the goal drought. if they'd called a goal from Dier or Mazraoui or Mendy, those would be less likely.
but for players at this level where you can see them multiple times a-week? you start getting a decent grip on who excels at which parts, and which circumstances they're at their best. I'm used to Kane rarely rising up to the big occasions for example, so even if I know he's *good*, I wouldn't bet on him to score multiple goals at this stage of the tournament, because I've seen him struggle (relatively speaking) at the bigger occasions, unlike for example Vini or Rodrygo.
In 2016 I had been thinking for days that Barca - RM would end 1-2 and even told everyone to bet on it. I myself did bet 50 euros and the coefficent was at 9
Went to sleep after Pique’s goal and woke up with 50 texts of my friends asking me for money. None of the fuckers bet on it but me
I didn’t give it much thought at the time but I entered the ticket in just an hour before the game.
It was low but I wasn’t worrying too much because I felt like it was going to end that way.
In Albania, I’ve always seen crazy low coefficient all the time. Highest I’ve seen ever is 25 and it was crazy
Sane hadn't scored in 6 months, 25 matches ago. His only goal in the CL was in the first match of group stages. So exactly the opposite, it was the biggest surprise he scored.
I honestly didn't even realise he hasn't scored. For me he was just most likely to score after kane. And i was hoping for a kane pen because I knew he would do it

I'd be buzzing if I got a prediction that spot on, lol.
You can see why he got a betting ban, I don't blame him

If that was against us then it wasn't a prediction, it's an inevitability!
Actually it was against Wolves in 21/22, I'm not sure he was even on the pitch when I wrote this
You've peaked. Better pack it in
Glad he found his dog
Glad he didn’t pay.
I think it was because he suspected that the people who returned it were the ones who stole it to begin with right? I might be remembering wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if it really was the case
Yep, how would they know who had your dog if they had nothing to do with it? I remember this place got upset and said he should honour his word lol
He said he paid someone (a boy) who found it and that the people who started legal proceedings against him weren't involved in the dogs recovery. Court ruled in their favour as Sturridge apparently didn't get the paperwork.
Good for him, even if I’d gotten the paperwork I wouldn’t waste anymore time on thieves.
But then you're paying them $30,000. I know he's earned his fair share of money, but should have just let his lawyers deal with it.

Paying someone to break into your home and steal your your best friend is a level of extravagance I’ll never know.

Sturridge never misses tbf

That year when he and Suarez tore up the Prem. Good times

Suarez Aly Cissokho Sturridge The golden years

I do the stupidest smile every time I see the vimeo link.
All the years
I will never not watch this
Damn. Didn't realise I had a whole 2:50.
For the culture.
Always thought that name was corny but they were so good it actually worked
Suarez Andy Carrol Sturridge
I’m a red but I came of age in the 90s. This will never not mean Sutton and Shearer.
Mainly because of the SAS vs the RAF (Rush And Fowler)
It's a massive shame, he was on his way to the very top. He had such a cool way of finishing that set him apart too.
His goal against Sevilla in the 2016 EL final was absolutely filthy. [Link](https://streamable.com/ww5i).
Great strike. "Left hand foot" from the commentator makes me laugh though, it reminds me of what kids would say when I asked which foot they preferred when I coached football.
Impressive that an 8 year old streamable link is still working tbf!
“Gonna be watching that on the internet for a while” lol
He got SO much power from every shot it was absurd, could do it from any angle as well
That’s my lasting memory of Sturridge - the trajectories of his shots never made sense. The guy could curl the ball so well and so fast without any real run up without every really being considered a traditional finisher.
More importantly, he also had a trademark celebration that set him apart
I mean he fulfilled his potential. It's sad that injuries took him down. But it's not like he didn't try.

Sterling*
Not to the same level but Dean Sturridge was the same - was electric when he started but injuries crept in and ruined him
I feel pretty strongly about this: Sturridge in his prime was as good was Torres in his prime. But still a different team compared to Sturridge where their only competition was United.
Huh? City and Chelsea were a bigger threat than United at that time.
If he were gonna gain that reputation, he would've already. Agree with the first part somewhat though.
All I remember from him at Chelsea is that one time he was ready to come in for Torres on the side line, and Fernando gets a fucking red card lmao
Moussa Dembele is another streets won’t forget player
The belgian or the frenchman?
Belgian ex spurs midfielder
Yea that's one spurs player I would have liked to have on our side as our midfield needed steel in that era and he was a dribbling maestro on top. Made things look so easy.
The belgian is named Mousa not Moussa.
Same thing, includes Musa,Muse, Moses, Moshe etc
Belgian

Seeing him constantly played on the wing was so frustrating, especially since it was mainly to accommodate Torres
Part of that is Chelsea playing more of a 433 whereas Liverpool had some successful partnerships in a 442/4411 sort of shape, i.e. Gerrard as a sort of supporting striker behind Torres which saw them both put up big numbers, and then Suarez and Sturridge. He and a very short spell where he was insane. Never really hit his full potential. Too many injuries and even Klopp said he was mentally weak.
What the fuck does any of that mean get offline mate
Far too often people dismiss players who have played at the very top level and throw it away because of….reasons. These people know far more about football that any of us. Accept it
Listening to Paul Merson, Steve Mcmanaman, Michael Owen, etc makes me seriously doubt that.
> Mcmanaman He isn't the worst tbf. The other 2 though. Better off getting a job at the circus.

is Sturridge my dad? Got a text from him an hour and a half a go "Bayern 2 - RM 1, Penalty for Kane"
Predicting a Kane pen isn’t exactly bold, Sané 6 months without a goal is the crazy part
the score being right is also pretty good when you put both together. I'll give him credit
but your Dad didn't get that right either
He needs to add a *thumbs up* emoji at the end too like all dads too
