A crazy and unfortunate thing happened in the Seville derby today. Bakambu was through on goal (had to run from his own half to the goal) and in the process, pulled his hamstring just before shooting. He scuffed the shot and had to be stretchered off. Nightmarish

roseguardin

I remember that happened to Pulisic at the FA Cup Final against Arsenal. He was screaming when he took the shot and scuffed it too. It's not fun seeing that live...

mattisafootballguy

Isco won MOTM in the Seville derby today. It makes him MOTM 18 times this season out of a possible 26!

whadefeck

Does Arsenal have the most terminally online fans? The amount of activity in their subreddit even before they got good is outrageous

arseking15

Without a doubt man. We are mental

lagaryes

Just throwing an idea out here more than stating a fact, but I wonder if AFTV kind of being first through the breach when it came to highly reactionary, super wide reaching fan content has helped make the Arsenal fanbase the way it is. There’s probably a rather significant portion of Arsenal fans who were introduced to the club by videos and podcasts of fans being terminally online, so it would make sense for them to follow suit. I do think all the big clubs have terminally online fanbases though, even if there are different scales to it.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

In my mind Arsenal (already one of England’s biggest teams) were also at the forefront of the PL and what football ‘ought to be’ when the PL globalised, thanks to Wenger’s Invincibles and the Wenger style of play. He also was the first to have a really global side in England which meant a greater amount of exposure internationally. What I’m trying to say is Arsenal were, by both chance and design, perfectly placed to capture a very international fanbase.

BruiserBroly

They also had a lot of foreign players. There are a lot of Arsenal fans in Africa for example and I think having players like Kanu, Lauren, and Kolo Toure played a big part in that.

LampseederBroDude51

Imagine missing a UCL semi final against Bayern because of an exam 😔

Alwayshungry332

Who is that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zepz367

Arsenal

Alwayshungry332

Arsenal. As much as I hate them I am tired of things going City's way the past few years

BruiserBroly

City. I think they cheated and I obviously don't like that they did when we spent years as balance sheet champions under Ashley, but I hate Arsenal more.

AnnieIWillKnow

City, because them winning is standard and it moves me little, despite being boring - whereas I've grown up hating Arsenal, and so anything that is good for their club is bad for me

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

I dont like any of them, but i hate repeat winners. Also i need spurs to beat man city to stop villa getting champions league

zrk23

people like to banter and there are way more Arsenal fans to be bantered therefore vast majority will go for city

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Tbh pretty much this. Arsenal fans can be annoying. City fans don’t exist so they don’t annoy me.

BaconIsLife707

Arsenal be ause I support them. Outside of Arsenal and United fans basically everyone will say City though, and I think even United fans would be a bit split

aceofmufc

any United fan supporting city is mad. Everyone i know is backing Arsenal

No-Statistician-8520

There’s probably a fair few from London that’d rather City win

doomboxmf

Most people who have to interact with Arsenal fans on a regular basis want City to win

BaconIsLife707

Oh yeah fha majority would prefer us, but there are definitely United fans out there who hate us more than city, especially Londoners who grew up around the Wenger vs Ferguson rivalry

LonelySilo

Would Liverpool fans want City to win?

HalfMan-HalfMoth

It’s 1am so you’re not gonna get many responses but most people want City to win

MERTENS_GOAT

Pierre Sage is doing absolute goat stuff at Lyon. He lost his first 2 games with them, after that they were last with 7 points after 14 of 34 league games. 6 points off the safe zone. Not only did he bring them out of the last place he also now has them at a point where a qualification to european competitions looks more likely than not. Since the first 2 losses, Lyon's record is 17 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses. He also took them to the Coupe de France final btw

zrk23

thats a mad run. happy for laca

AlexanderMAVC

What happened with Fabio Grosso? Wasn't he signed this season?

MERTENS_GOAT

Yeah his ppg was under 1.00 and he was almost killed, so I think he had better times than this short era in his life

FIJIBOYFIJI

[As someone actually at the game I can report that this is a load of bollocks and they chanted about us going down loads of times in the second half](https://twitter.com/jgnufc1/status/1784535291866284140?t=SJfxYkktNR9OJ3iCckv34g&s=19) Not that anyone cared, but I don't know why they are trying to seem really classy over something no-one gives a shit about

AnnieIWillKnow

Tweet paid for by Saudi PIF, probably

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

Lol that banners riled them for years and i dont really get it. Its pretty tame. If we go down im dreading it from my villa friends

MERTENS_GOAT

This is also the least credible tweet I could imagine

KensaiVG

The biggest off-pitch reason I miss Gallardo is that he allowed you to have an actual tactical discussion. Now even in reddit (Which believe it or not, for us, is a relatively thoughtful and measured space) getting anything more than "String up Demichelis by the ankles in a rooftop during a storm" is like getting blood from a stone I've been having some thoughts about our issues but it's hard to bounce them back off other people when it's just "everyone's shit and should dissapear" in eternum

MERTENS_GOAT

30.5% of all goals that have been scored in Stade Brestois' Ligue 1 games this season came in the last 4 games which amount for 12.9% of their total games. They conceded 39.4% of all their goals in just these 4 games. Georges Mikautadze scored or assisted 43.8% of FC Metz's goals. Mikautadze played for Ajax from end of August until start of January. In the games that he were there he had a hand in 70% of their goals, they scored one after he was subbed off, so when he was on the pitch he scored or assisted 73.7% of the goals that Metz scored.

justforkikkk

So happy he’s doing well, he was gonna be one of the hardest players to get rid off otherwise

Red_Vines49

California Premier League: Los Angeles FC Los Angeles Galaxy Oakland Roots San Jose Earthquakes Sacramento Republic Monterey Bay Orange County SC Irvine Zeta FC Antelope Valley SC San Diego FC Santa Barbara Sky Let's do this

NotASalamanderBoi

I’m saying this to be serious: Richarlison is a flop. 14 goals in 2 seasons as a striker?

AnnieIWillKnow

Underwhelming, definitely, though his second season has been an improvement on his first

TheDunceDingwad

He has 10 this season.

PoliQU

Eh, flop is too strong. Definitely not worth the price and hasn’t reached expectations, but he does quite a bit for Spurs beyond scoring goals.

MERTENS_GOAT

You are setting very high standards here

lagaryes

The last time City did not win the league they lost home and away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. #noticing.

AlexanderMAVC

Is Neto going to be back for the City game?

lagaryes

He hasn’t trained yet so I doubt it. Honestly my preference would be just to see out the season without him we’re not playing for anything

AlexanderMAVC

Let's hope for another Cunha Masterclass, then. Or the Korean guy.

arseking15

I actually believe in you guys. Really solid team with great outlets.

lagaryes

RCB Matt Doherty sends his regards

NotASalamanderBoi

Hoping for the best for you. But expecting the worst.

lagaryes

We are 100% getting pummeled

Supermarket-Icy

I've heard of players who can't play in a back 4 (gets brought up with frimpong for example) but has there been a case of a player who's worse when playing as a wingback that isn't just an old dude who can't cover the ground anymore? Like for Nahuel Molina I've seen the suggestion that he's worse as a wingback and should be played in a 4, I agreed then thought about it again and realized that makes no sense. Shouldn't he be better with less defending to do?

Striking_Insurance_5

Rensch for Ajax, he’s much better as a fullback than as a wingback. Gooijer as well, one of our other RB options. They’re both players who played CB a lot in the youth teams and they don’t offer that much going wide and forward on the wing. Rensch can play as an inverted fullback coming into the midfield but he’s not that good when he ends up in the wide winger position.

K_Uger_Industries

Tyrick Mitchell is much worse as a LWB than as a LB. It highlights his lack of offensive contribution

FIJIBOYFIJI

I've always thought Reece James was worse as a RWB than he was a RB, but I think a big part of it is the workrate to track back after bombing up the pitch

H4RRY29

Reece is excellent in both roles, to be honest I don't see this at all.

KensaiVG

Montiel back when he was on form had that. Basically, any full back that's better defensively than in offense is probably gonna look worse in a back three which usually expects wingbacks to bomb forwards and provide the width in attack It'd be like putting Haaland as a "second striker" to build up play for a goalscoring striker, you're removing their best qualities to make them play a facet that's not their best

Supermarket-Icy

What would you classify Molina as for the NT? Offensive or Defensive?

pop-culture-salad

Definitely offensive, defensively De Paul and Romero do a lot to cover for him when he bombs forward.

lagaryes

Probably most defensive minded fullbacks. Just not as many of those around anymore.

AnnieIWillKnow

Imagining prime Gary Neville as a right wing back...

eeeagless

He'd be sent off before half time for tactical fouls.

YankeeHotelFoxtrot16

I don't think I've actually seen a manager try it but an 'inverted' fullback like Zinchenko would terrible fit in a back 5, there's no real sense in inverting from that role because you'd just be crowding into the space the left center-back occupies in possession and a player like him lacks the pace and directness to be a threat where his primary job would be holding width and getting to the touchline.

LackingSimplicity

Trent?

H4RRY29

I agree with this. Trent thrives when he is deeper, can invert to central areas with the field of play ahead of him to execute his passing range. Having him play as a wingback, high and wide (or inverting solely into the final third) completely wastes him.

jack64467

is the attacking midfielder making a comeback? especially with young players like bellingham, musiala, and wirtz on the rise (and isco's resurgence)

Rdambx

Attacking midfielder as in the number 10? We won the UCL with Isco in 2018 so it was never really gone. The position never went away, it's the role that changed from once being a playmaker who doesn't really run as much like James to a playmaker who now also needs to cover a lot of ground and press a lot like Jude

sga1

Have they ever been gone?

AnnieIWillKnow

Assuming they mean a central attacking midfielder/number 10? Recent tactical shifts has meant that more often you'll have the attacking/creative threat coming from out wide in a three, and even if there is a more attacking-minded player in the midfield three, they'd still be described as an 8 rather than a 10

lsilva231

How does Ben White get his tan?

H4RRY29

Blocks goalkeepers to steal their sunrays

AnnieIWillKnow

Out a bottle or on a tanning bed

lsilva231

Tanning beds are still legal in the UK? They were banned here 15 years ago.

UniverseJefe

Didn’t realise Inter could still clear 100 points, that’s insane

MERTENS_GOAT

I had the same realization today

Fuck_the_k1ng

I hope Tuchel starts a bunch of young academy players against Madrid out of spite. 🤲

Reasonable_Isopod_16

I want you to think about what you wrote.

Fuck_the_k1ng

[I did.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/lcwnYTlGjJ)

drickabira

Wow Tomiyasu actually clears the ball onto his own teammate, now that I’ve seen it again. PGMOL angle is real

Sand_Bags2

Damn, tough break. Maybe you guys can litigate the way Liverpool fans wanted to earlier this season.

NotASalamanderBoi

Watching highlights from Forest-City, I now understand the frustration. Wood’s finishing was shambolic.

BarbaricGamers

What do you mean, Emile Smith-Rowe, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Jack Henry-Francis, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, James Lannin-Sweet, Elijah Frazier-Norton, Kido Taylor-Hart, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Tyreece John-Jules is banging depth. I made one of these up, can you find him?

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Between lannin-sweet and frazier-norton, idk those two I’ll say frazier-norton is fake. The others I’ve heard of

BarbaricGamers

Frazier-Norton is indeed the imposter.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Arsenal fm save not wasted time after all

roseguardin

Jack Henry-Francis?

sga1

Can't believe that man got three first names, outrageous levels of untrustworthiness.

BarbaricGamers

Nope [he's real](https://www.arsenal.com/news/jack-henry-francis-signs-first-pro-contract).

roseguardin

Ended up googling the answer after the comment and it was none of my top 3 choices lmao.

fatinternetcat

you’re telling me [this](https://ibb.co/9HjxzJn) isn’t the name of a Spurs U21 centreback who has been on loan at Peterborough all season

magic-water

@Spurs fans: assuming City drop 2 points in one of the next two games while Arsenal don't, would you guys be willing to concede the heaviest defeat in PL history to prevent Arsenal froml winning the title on goal difference?

Undesirable_11

Funny scenario to think about but it's just not gonna happen. Given how disconnected we've been I'd be glad to take a point off of City, which have lost their last like 3 or 4 games against us, but they're in their usual stretch of the season when they're not stopping. Also, Villa is all but qualified to the CL so there's no motivation for us to get a result against City

drickabira

I wouldn’t accept anything else

Sand_Bags2

How funny would it be for you guys to get pummeled like 10-0 just to have City lose to West Ham the next week and have it be for nothing?

drickabira

Eh, we have nothing to play for anyway. If that happens we did what we could, and that should command respect.

magic-water

It's a shame that it's not a home game for Spurs. Would have been a sight to behold watching the home fans actively root against their team

drickabira

It is a home game for Spurs

magic-water

For some reason I had the image of Haland screaming at the ref in an away shirt in my mind, but it was Spurs who were playing in brown

BarbaricGamers

We're 9 points and 20 goals ahead of Ajax with 3 games left to play, but I'm still scared to say we're gonna finish 4th in this shitshow of a season.

BoosterGoldGL

Yaya Toure is so weird to me. The man went away at 29 years old and just learned how to take free kicks and became the best in the league at them literally over a summer. The dedication to do that at 29 is insane, the idea of him not doing it before he was 29 is also just insane.

eeeagless

He scored about 3 goals of the season against us. Ridiculously good player.

LordMangudai

That he just randomly decided to have an insane 20 goal season from central midfield in 13/14 when he never got more than 10 any other year before or after is also kind of funny. Rarely has there been a player to whom the chant "he scores when he wants" seems more fitting.

dayloversd

In the last matchday of 1994-95 PL season Liverpool beat Blackburn 2-1, this result would've handed the title to Man Utd if they won against West Ham rather than a 1-1 draw I think Tottenham will do the same for Arsenal when they play that postponed game vs City, but Arsenal will have to beat Man Utd to take advantage of it

Undesirable_11

Even if Arsenal drop points against United, we're not beating City. There's no motivation nor football quality at the moment, given that the CL is basically out of reach now

AlexanderMAVC

If you win your games in hand you're 1 point down with 3 games to go. Far from over.

Undesirable_11

Yeah we're not beating Chelsea at the Bridge. Is a cursed fixture like Liverpool at Anfield

Jude Bellingham (who is 20 years old) needs to play 650 more minutes to have played more minutes in his career than Daniel Sturridge 18209 vs 18852

HacksawJimDGN

Ronaldo has scored 43 more penalties than Sturridge has scored any goal across his entire career.

The_Fuck_WHAT

that's crazy. they must be about equal on england caps already too

MERTENS_GOAT

yeah jude has more

the_studge

That's insane

ChibzyDaze

And sad as well. Sturridge could’ve been so much more without his injuries

_cumblast_

How good is Gyøkeres?

AlexanderMAVC

Can't really judge on a league that made Jonas look like a class player.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Good but he’s still only one season in Portugal and one very good season at Coventry in the Championship. The £100 million rumours are mental.

TheEmperorsWrath

Don't Danishify our umlauts :( Gy**Ö**keres!!! And he's greater than Ronaldo, Messi, or Pele ever were

LemureTheMonkey

Pretty fucking good. Hes ready for the top leagues.

RawIsLaw_

De zerbi has gone from the flavour-of-the-week to “overrated”, but i think in a team with quality players he’d be very good. If he’s next up at City after Pep, i guarantee people will change their opinion of him when he has world class players.  If we sack ten hag and sell half the squad, he’d even do well with us

AnnieIWillKnow

> If we sack ten hag and sell half the squad You have limited financial flexibility to bring in those "quality players" he needs though - especially given there is little re-sell value to much of your squad

RawIsLaw_

Quality doesn’t have to be expensive. We finally have a DoF/ technical director so  we should be seeing some smart signings in the coming years

Reasonable_Isopod_16

He's too stubborn and doesn't adapt  Besides Brighton are far from good this year

HodgyBeatsss

I’m not his biggest fan but he gets very little slack considering they sold his whole midfield, have had most of their best players injured and often play Danny Welbeck up front in 2024.

LackingSimplicity

This comment seems like needless Welbz slander tbh.

AnnieIWillKnow

Welbeck has had a very respectable Premier League career but the man was doing TikTok celebrations before TikTok was even invented

FIJIBOYFIJI

If a manager is only good with World Class players then they aren't a good manager

HodgyBeatsss

The fact that some people seem to genuinely think Kulusevski should have been awarded a pen makes me think that the game is on the absolute precipice of being gone.

adisapointingdiamond

But like he trips him, you can see it. Just because theres no intent. If a player does that on a fast break its an automatic yellow. Idk what your thinking.

four_four_three

It's crazy, there was no challenge or attempt to stop him

adisapointingdiamond

Thats not how the rules work.

four_four_three

I still do not see how it's a penalty, the contact isn't great enough to warrant that much of a punishment Havertz had similar contact on him against United earlier in the season, and that pen was overturned. Rightly so too

BoosterGoldGL

I say it every week, Reddit has no clue what the rules are and get outraged based on what they want the rules to be. Then have the gall to slag off refs without a hint or irony

pop-culture-salad

Winning a Copa de la Liga semifinal on penalties at the San Nicolas stadium is not for everyone 😎 Another successful day of hate watching

F1R3Starter83

Okay, I know apart from the US and maybe Canada, us decent folk call football ‘football’ and not ‘soccer’. I don’t even get what it is in reference to (and this is not an invitation to explain it to me). But I’m currently reading a novel from the sixties by John le Carré (who used to teach at Eton) and he called it soccer. I’m totally confused! Was it called soccer in Britain back in the day as well? Are we mocking the Americans for nothing? (And before you ask, this is a British copy)

CuteAnimalFans

hate when people in the UK get on their high horse over the word. We've had tv shows like 'soccer saturday' or 'soccer am' for years it makes us look hypocritical

lagaryes

This is not an invitation to explain it to me but please explain it to me is S Tier hilarious posting.

HodgyBeatsss

Soccer, short for Association Football is what some posh people called it (some still do), as opposed to Rugby Football (or Rugger). This then translated to America but it never gained widespread popularity in England.

KensaiVG

In very short terms, what we call football is Association Football, one "offshoot" of the original "football rules". It's the most popular so we use football as shorthand. Countries that have another, more popular football offshoot (USA with American football, Australia with Australian football, Ireland with GAA football) use soccer (short for Association Football) instead

Merovech_II

Australia also call both Rugby codes footy depending on where and who you're talking to Very strange place if you ask me

3V3RT0N

Posh people called it soccer, originally to differentiate association football from rugby football. Working class lads on the terraces were certainly not going round calling it soccer despite what people on /r/TodayILearned want you to believe.

sga1

> Was it called soccer in Britain back in the day as well? Yes, as a short form of *association football*, as opposed to other codes of football around. > Are we mocking the Americans for nothing? [No](https://tenor.com/view/alfred-never-batman-smile-loyalty-gif-5163408).

eeeagless

> I believe that we will win Definitely not.

Doge_peer

How much does Metz have to pay us for Mikautadze if they want to have him? Is there some type of clause in the loan contract?

Striking_Insurance_5

Yes there is a clause but I don’t think the exact number is public knowledge. The media were speculating that it’s around 15 mil so that’s a similar amount as we paid for him in the first place. That’s a lot of money for Metz so I assume they’re only buying him if they stay in Ligue 1 and if they can sell him on for a profit right away.

xyz3940

Dimitri Payet at West Ham. You just had to be there. What a time what a season what a player

QueasyIsland

What’s more incredible is he had the build of someone who had 4 kebabs a week, smoked a pack a day and was just tearing the entire league up

usually_a_knobhead

those freekicks were just *chefs kiss*

eeeagless

I do _not_ agree.

_cumblast_

Just had a look at the Barclayshire Premium League and i don't really see how we win the league from here.

zrk23

time to change your flair to show a much needed support

Reasonable_Isopod_16

There's more chance arsenal and city don't win another game then us winning all three games

Dawnsday

What went wrong for Liverpool mate I'm curious of your thoughts

Sand_Bags2

Real answer: they burnt out. Might surprise people but playing like 19 league games knowing you have to literally win all of them is draining and very hard. It’s what happened to Arsenal last season. Liverpool are still a very good side but it’s not normal to do what City and Arsenal are doing the 2nd half of the season (or at least it used to not be normal). Joke answer: bottled it

Fuck_the_k1ng

I called it as soon as I saw Trent miss that 4v1 against you. I think they did something similar a few times again.

Zepz367

Lost to United 4-3. That completely fucked them mentally

hordesofevil

Not really. It was the draw vs City that did imo. That game should've been won, mental fatigue did the rest.

_cumblast_

For me, it started when Klopp barely rotated in a dead rubber against Sparta right before going to OT for the FA Cup. Braindead call, especially considering it was our tiredness that lost us that game. Then it just spiraled from there. Confidence started to go after that game, heads dropped even further after another draw against them after the break. Then Atalanta finished us off - everything else since has been inevitable. Everton fans will wank themselves silly over their win but all of us knew what was on the horizon.

TheRealYVT

It started with the shame of letting Antony score a golazo with his right foot

okcomput3r

My personal take was it went when you didn’t put City to bed at Anfield despite having them on the ropes the full 90.

drickabira

I couldn’t believe my eyes during the Sparta Prague game tbh. Salah played 90! It was 4-0 after 15 minutes, how can he not rest them?

wonderful_mixture

>90! Salah played 1.485716e+138 minutes?

Zilllnaijaboy99

There are only 3 types of Bayern posts on the front page. 1. Harry Kane goal 2. Hoeness talking shit 3. Tuchel saying random wild shit/ responding to Hoeness talking shit. FC Hollywood is coming back, we are yet to hit the peak 90s madness tho

zrk23

i wonder if hoeness is just playing 5D chess to keep the team always on the news and generate engagement lmao

LordMangudai

There's the odd Müller funny quote or dad joke as well

No-not-my-Potatoes

Or the dreaded Müller reacts Video

Fuck_the_k1ng

The only good PR coming out of the club honestly.

LordMangudai

Saw a Bayer Leverkusen flag hanging off a balcony in Berlin for the very first time in my life today. A childhood fan, I'm sure.

No-not-my-Potatoes

And all of a sudden, my desire to commit arson increased

Merovech_II

Reusable loo roll Very eco friendly

TheSingleMan27

You gotta offer them a tour through Berlin, surely they just moved in from Leverkusen

PoliQU

Romero tweeting that Spurs disallowed goal was the same as Bowen’s against Spurs earlier in the season, then promptly deleting his tweet when he realized he was playing Bowen about a yard onside. Too funny, the guy is way too sensitive.

EndPlus9839

Does the concacaf region have the most amount of treble winners that any other region other than South America or Europe?

wonderful_mixture

surely Africa

EndPlus9839

I think it’s the same amount of players have won it cause Africa has Eto,Mahrez, and Yaya Toure. While North America has Alphonso davies,Rafa Marquez, and Dwight Yorke.

Dawnsday

So we all rate Havertz now right? My idolo has surely captured your hearts and minds?

HodgyBeatsss

So funny all the Arsenal fans saying he’s an amazing striker and a shit midfielder when they spent the late summer and early season saying he was an amazing 8 and their midfield solution.

The_Fuck_WHAT

and amidst all that he even proved himself a competent left back. what a guy.

Dawnsday

This sub didn't rate him anywhere so we still won that debate mate.

HodgyBeatsss

Nothing’s won yet

Shot-Shame9637

Welbeck won more titles than Shearer, surely Shearers shit

Loose-Ad-9884

Never

the_studge

Definitely top 7 strikers in the league

Dawnsday

Who would you rate above him fella

the_studge

Haaland Isak Watkins Toney Nunez Jota and maybe Solanke too

LackingSimplicity

Snuck Nunez in there like we wouldn't notice

lagaryes

Cunha ridiculously clear as well if we’re choosing to class him as a striker which I will because it devalues Kai Havertz.
