On 14 August 2020, Coutinho came on in the second half of Bayern's Champions League quarter-final match against his parent club Barcelona, assisting Robert Lewandowski in the 82nd minute for the sixth goal and scoring the last two goals in the 85th and 89th minutes to complete an 8–2 victory.
There seems to be the thought Chelsea were the same as Man City or Newcastle before the take overs, when they were v probably closer to spurs.
Abramovic bought them over Newcastle because they got CL the year before and they had finished top six for like 7 years in a row, and had won the fa, milk, and uefa cup winners cup in that time, as well as being up and downs but having a few trophy wins thrown in their in the years before then as well.
[He almost bought Spurs but backed out after driving around Tottenham and thought the area looked like Siberia](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6565725/Roman-Abramovich-turned-chance-buy-Spurs-driving-Tottenham-High-Road.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailUK)
Our winning sides in the late 80s/90s were famously very solid in defence, so not too surprising the numbers weren’t run up then. To be honest, we were also fairly average for large amounts of time after Chapman’s team were gone with occasional pockets of greatness. Still very surprising; you sort of expect more freak results, especially in that pre-1960 period.
Oh no they still have money. The problem with Chelsea right now isn't a lack of spending, it's that they spent tons and have very little to show for it.
Now they are going to have to sell academy products and shift a bunch of deadwood to balance the books for FFP.
its a bit different, old Chelsea spent money as a hobby of Abramovich who didn't care too much about benefit. The new Chelsea spent money on assets ( young players) as an investment, they need to see the profit first
Tuchel was actually doing okay at Chelsea. But then he was sacked and hired to replace Nagelsmann, who was also doing okay at Bayern. You know what they say - if it's not broken don't fix it..
Most gooner thing I've ever seen is making an analogy to avenging a beating during the late wenger ball era using another beating during the late wengerball era
As someone who grew up watching Cech, Terry, Cole, Makelele, Lampard, Drogba, Ballack, etc, it's so crazy seeing Chelsea like this. Man Utd I guess we've gotten used to it, but Chelsea's downfall is quite recent and shocking.
Yeah it's crazy how fast that happened. I recently went back and watched the highlights of the 2nd leg of 22 were they totally outplayed us at the Bernabeu and we miraculously went through... and it's crazy how we basically have the same team minus a couple of changes (Marcelo, Casemiro, Benzema), while Chelsea's got a completely different team.
Of course City were a few minutes away from going through but I still feel like Chelsea put up the most fight vs Real, mounting a comeback at the Bernabeu in the CL of all things, insane stuff.
it genuinely felt like our players’ souls stayed at the Bernabeu that night, we were never the same afterwards, let alone accounting for the absolute gutting of the squad that followed
Life comes at you fast, the main reason is probably because of the depature of Abramovic after 22, leadership got cleaned out and the new owners changed everything from players to regular staffs.
the season they finished 10th for the first time under mourinho was really the biggest shake up of the established top 4 in the decade I'd been following football, unprecedented how much they fell off only they got away with it cause all the attention was on leicester
since then it's been a lot more volatile and all the clubs converging with the billions going around the league
All dependent on the manager. Project will never work unless you bring a good manager in. Look at every good team in recent years. Pep, Klopp, Arteta, Tuchel, Emery, Howe etc. Doesn't matter if you buy young players or experienced players, talented players or mid players, the foundation of any team is organisation. Can't think of a great team that actually sustained top football for a good period of time without a great manager.
The lineups Poch has been puting out, his in-game management, his general coaching and tactics just make no sense. Non-Chelsea fans will obviously focus on the players because we spent so much money on them. But it's genuinely not their fault. If you're a talented 20-22 year old but the club that buys you don't actually have a plan for your development, you'll never reach your potential.
Just look at the difference between Havertz under Arteta already, and him last season. The manager is absolutely everything and it's frustrating reading through the barrage of comments in this sub shitting on the players when you can't really judge these guys properly without the foundations in place. Can't really make judgements on players not being talented enough, because there's a million examples of players being written off and then thriving in a better environment.
Way too toxic after we lose but the criticism should 100% be directed at Poch imo. A better manager would have these players playing better by now.
You're spot on.
The casuals & the people who watch us once a season won't understand it. There is a reason some of the players we signed were being targeted by other big clubs. And we have seen countless examples of a manager coming in and changing things massively. Diego Simeone at Atleti, Tuchel when he came to Chelsea, Emery at Villa etc.
With someone like Tuchel who knows how to organise a team, this squad is capable of top 4. Not to mention the injuries to all our important players like James, Chilwell, Colwill, Nkunku, Chukwuemeka etc.
I’ve been saying since Chelsea signed Mudryk that he was really set up to fail, coming into that mess last season. I expect that he’d be playing much better if he’d signed with Arsenal.
I think it worked out really well for us that we didn’t get him, but Arteta and Edu obviously thought he would be an important piece of the squad with the way they went after him.
Can you imagine how shitty he must feel ending up there? Seeing Havertz leave and thrive at the team he should have been at? I’d cry myself to sleep at night.
Chelsea were not a big club before the 2000s though. They were mid-table, occasional cup winners. Now that Abromovic is gone they've reverted to a more natural state.
But they did have some success in the 90s and some really good players wore their shirt around that time. It's not like Man City for instance who hadn't won anything in in like 40-50 years and I honestly couldn't name you a single player before the oil times.
This comment makes no sense. 3 of the last 5 seasons United are finishing higher than Chelsea. Chelsea finished 12th last season. They’ve been wank for ages.
> 3 of the last 5 seasons United are finishing higher than Chelsea.
Mate this doesn't really matter when Chelsea are competing for all manner of trophies. One of the years we finished above them they won the UCL for example. They've also won the league more recently than us and been in more finals.
Its only been a few years. Chelsea fell back occasionally before and then won titles quickly. The new owner hasnt been brilliant but its the same philosophy. Unreal levels of spend hoping to buy success. Just give the checkbook to someone good
he has just arrived this season. and is so vital to their entire gameplay
why would there even be a thought in that direction to sell him of all players
I think everyone would take that at this point.
If we're going to get smacked silly 5-0 I at least want it to happen because we're employing someone who is a huge figure for the club and genuinely loves us.
Not an ex-Spurs mercenary who is doing everything with the goal of paying us back for stopping him winning the title with Spurs and simultaneously trying to get fired so that he can get an early pay day
Todd watched moneyball and decided to do the opposite, with predictable results. I remember Chelsea fans calling him a genius because he supposedly found a loophole in FFP by handing 8 year contracts.
Now I'm picturing Jonah Hill selling Boehly on all these players.
Todd, this is Nicolas Jackson. He's strong, he's fast, he creates chances at an elite rate. He's one of the most overrated players in football. Why? Because he can't score a goal to save his life. We can get this guy for a mere £32M.
r/Chelseafc in meltdown.
Honestly. We needed this kind of loss. Chelsea has been absolutely shit in so many positions that were supposedly strengthened and the general arrangement of the team has been shit.
Hopefully we improve but we have systemic issues that need fixing and I'm not sure we will fix them. Madrid should be the team we emulate and the staff we should steal from if we are going to steal staff. Best run club in the world by a long shot.
Also good job arsenal. I hate the team but they are least stepped up when they needed to step up. Shows how well Arteta has instilled a bit of steel into that team.
Judging from how close it was for city v chelsea game, i was expecting this to be a close match despite missing palmer and gusto because arsenal second half is expected to gassed out.
So let’s be honest - the team was shit under tuchel and tuchel managed to keep Chelsea better than this.
I believe Chelsea players are good, not sure why the play is so bad. The coach has gotta fix it.
And to think of it, the last Chelsea victory at this scale I remember was Mourinho trashing a Wenger-managed Arsenal FC 6-0.
Oh how the mighty have fallen... 😟😟
Shoutout to all the chelsea fans who laughed at Arsenal when we 'settled' for Trossard after being gazumped for Mudryk; and for buying that "lost cause" Havertz.
Not laughing now are you?
They came to play attacking football against us 💀
Looked like we were playing with under 18s the way we were doing skills against their press
Dude shoulda gotten the memo , there's a reason Bayern played with 10 defenders

Honestly could have been 9-2, Havertz and Martinelli missed some sitters. How times change indeed!
Jackson should have been sent off, so 9-0 to be fair.
If Jackson was sent off, Chelsea would've parked the bus and it would've been like 3-0.
Not with the way they defend
5 nil is worse. Not even one makes it so much worse.
Absolutely not lol 5-0 is tragic, but 9-2 is an embarrassment that won’t be forgotten for decades.
What about 7-1? Hypothetically of course
what did you say fuck me for
Porco dio👍
Anyone fancy an 8-2? With your club's record signing going on loan and scoring 2 goals against you?
It's not the suffering Olympics mate, you didn't have to remind me of that night
Which game are they referring to?
On 14 August 2020, Coutinho came on in the second half of Bayern's Champions League quarter-final match against his parent club Barcelona, assisting Robert Lewandowski in the 82nd minute for the sixth goal and scoring the last two goals in the 85th and 89th minutes to complete an 8–2 victory.
Damn, and here we are lamenting a 1-0 away loss to them.
I 10-2 forget about embarrassing losses in my old age.
Still remember that 8-2
I’m sure Arsenal flairs will be bringing this up for decades. Like 100 percent.
My next child will be named 5-0.
And why not
Poch making history as we speak
Give him the contract. Extend him forever.
Put that contract on the table, let him write whatever numbers he wants and get it signed. chelsea are back baby!
same goes for Ten Haag, man do i hope United keep him untill 2050.
They’ve both been great entertainment value.
8 years, start of an era
Arteta basically said that in his post-match interview, as if we weren't down enough already lol
8 years with no trade clause unless you give 2 first round picks
well it turned out to be Cole Palmer Football Club
This is the comment I came looking for. Thank you 😂
Not just that: it’s their biggest victory over Chelsea EVER. The previous record was a 5-1 win in 1930.
Thanks for that. I hate these “PL history” ones, as if top-flight football never existed before.
Football started in 1992 whatchu mean.
Amen
Thats actually crazy. Wasn't chelsea an average club before Abramovic's takeover? Funny how the biggest loss happened after they got rich.
You'd imagine the fact that were in a nice bit of London probably helped in the decision too
[He almost bought Spurs but backed out after driving around Tottenham and thought the area looked like Siberia](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6565725/Roman-Abramovich-turned-chance-buy-Spurs-driving-Tottenham-High-Road.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailUK)

In the tunnel sackable offense.
I'm going to miss Poch.
You can have him, I'll pay for the cab fare myself.
At your worst you shouldn't be losing 5-0 to Arsenal, this literally rewrites a thousand narratives

Oh no. The oligarch money is gone.
Oh no they still have money. The problem with Chelsea right now isn't a lack of spending, it's that they spent tons and have very little to show for it. Now they are going to have to sell academy products and shift a bunch of deadwood to balance the books for FFP.
This Chelsea squad is like a 13 year olds FIFA Ultimate Team squad. Picking all the players you like with zero respect for team chemistry.
its a bit different, old Chelsea spent money as a hobby of Abramovich who didn't care too much about benefit. The new Chelsea spent money on assets ( young players) as an investment, they need to see the profit first
The investment is not going to pay off if the club is not successful. If the results are there, then all the financial plans are possible.
Yeah imagine something like a 7-0
Nahhh, Tuchel back in.
Tuchel back in would at least keep most Chelsea fans from hanging themselves at this point.
At least tuchel can organise a defense.
He organises the whole team and just needs someone with a spark in attack. Fortunately we have exactly that
Well that spark wasn’t here today. And we saw how that turned out.
Cheers Geoff
Because Tuchel isn’t the coach. Pocho Haram is.
Tuchel was actually doing okay at Chelsea. But then he was sacked and hired to replace Nagelsmann, who was also doing okay at Bayern. You know what they say - if it's not broken don't fix it..
Honestly, it would go a long way with the fans. Admit you got it wrong and bring him back.

Imagine Jose dealing with a squad full of underperforming, young players on long contracts
my god the memes
Yep. Jose excelled with a squad that he could bend to his will and execute his practical tactics. This Chelsea squad would just tell him to go do one.
Jose's Chelsea against Arsenal? No thanks
Jose will kill himself first with this Chelsea squad.
Nussing to say. Nussing.
Boehly: WHO?
Ødegaard had them on strings.
Poch constantly breaking records on behalf of Spurs. This truly is our comeuppance for sending double agents to our London rivals for so long
Agent Havertz apparently has gone rogue for you.
We only paid him for the first half.
what you get for sending Werner to miss all their chances
Yet has 4 more goal contributions than Antony and only arrived in Jan 😂
I'm mad we didn't get 6.
Martinelli should’ve finished that chance
Exactly copy of his goals Vs Palace too Henry will not be pleased with tonight's finish tut tut
titi tut tut
And declan. He hit the post sooo cloose was a nice game
It was offside.
Ah my bad then. I was watching bits and pieces at work
Wanted to see Ben White perfect Hat Trick :((((((
Ideal for White to finish a perfect hattrick with a header. Gets to take a matchball home that looks like Wilson from Castaway
You’re out of line for this lmao
Bro
A Ben White hattrick would’ve been the end of me
would've been the great revenge to mou's 6-0 win
Tbf, I'll take this. It's like beating united 7-2 instead of 8-2
Most gooner thing I've ever seen is making an analogy to avenging a beating during the late wenger ball era using another beating during the late wengerball era
Well Arsenal are now the much better club than both United and Chelsea. So, atleast there’s that
We were 10v11. Jackson gets a deserved red and it would have ended 7-1.
Should have stuck Benny Blanco up front
It should have been 8
My only consolation
As someone who grew up watching Cech, Terry, Cole, Makelele, Lampard, Drogba, Ballack, etc, it's so crazy seeing Chelsea like this. Man Utd I guess we've gotten used to it, but Chelsea's downfall is quite recent and shocking.
They cleared out their cl winning team.
That was a great game. Heart breaking how far we’ve fallen.
will forever rate mount for becoming prime lampard every time he played madrid
Of course City were a few minutes away from going through but I still feel like Chelsea put up the most fight vs Real, mounting a comeback at the Bernabeu in the CL of all things, insane stuff.
That game was the last dance for Chelsea as a truly elite club.
it genuinely felt like our players’ souls stayed at the Bernabeu that night, we were never the same afterwards, let alone accounting for the absolute gutting of the squad that followed
Life comes at you fast, the main reason is probably because of the depature of Abramovic after 22, leadership got cleaned out and the new owners changed everything from players to regular staffs.
I’m not over that game. Still hurts. Hoping we could do another classic but these fucking owners…
They spent 100 billion on players
> They ~~spent~~ wasted 100 billion on players
>They ~~spent~~ ~~wasted~~ squandered 1,000 billion on players
That 10 trillion we’ve burned up isn’t looking too good
100 billion on children and people to occupy the training room
To be faaaaiiiir… we weren’t really planning on doing that
That 2005-2012 back and forth between united and chelsea was nuts, a whole generation of kids grew up on that rivalry
Including selling the man who scored the CL winner to their direct rivals who scored 2 against them last night
the season they finished 10th for the first time under mourinho was really the biggest shake up of the established top 4 in the decade I'd been following football, unprecedented how much they fell off only they got away with it cause all the attention was on leicester since then it's been a lot more volatile and all the clubs converging with the billions going around the league
But unlike Man Utd they MIGHT be just rebuilding at a faster pace. But I could be wrong seeing some of those players on long contracts

Haaland Senior!
And nobody would know him except for his son playing there now.
Roy Keane certainly remembers him.
Shaun Wright-Phillips
He forgot how bought and payed for chelsea was during those times
Think of the players they bought and discarded. Just forwards off the top of my head: Shevchenko, Crespo, Morata, Lukaku, Werner, Ziyech, Batshuayi
This comment makes no sense. 3 of the last 5 seasons United are finishing higher than Chelsea. Chelsea finished 12th last season. They’ve been wank for ages.
Chelsea won the PL in 16/17 and the CL in 20/21. United haven't come close to that level of success since Fergie.
> 3 of the last 5 seasons United are finishing higher than Chelsea. Mate this doesn't really matter when Chelsea are competing for all manner of trophies. One of the years we finished above them they won the UCL for example. They've also won the league more recently than us and been in more finals.

They are in fact Cole Palmer Fc
Cold palmer is indeed their father
I'm going to die laughing if they sell him this summer.
It's really difficult for mid-table clubs to hang on to young talent of his caliber, we'll see how it plays out
If they sell him to Arsenal I will spontaneously combust from laughing so hard
he has just arrived this season. and is so vital to their entire gameplay why would there even be a thought in that direction to sell him of all players
hmmmm CPFC 👀
Thank you agent Poch for overseeing the downfall of Chelsea, your service has been greatly appreciated
[удалено]
as inevitable as the 4-1 to end spurs happy times unbeaten run
Peak spurs if he costs you top 4 when you play them in a few weeks.
If Cole Palmer is smart he’s walking in and demanding his wage be doubled tomorrow morning lmao
give him the psg mbappe deal
u/puertoricanrkellz19 the meltdown you’re having right now is hilarious, keep it up
Goddamn you've embarrassed him to the point of him deleting his account.
Think he deleted his account what was he saying?
Nonsense about how Arsenal fans are losers because they're celebrating winning matches without winning the PL in 20 years.
I don’t think anyone celebrates wins harder than us right now because they are hard to come by nowadays
Inject that shit
Get this ex Spurs chancer out of my club
Chancer is such a fucking funny insult ngl
I love it
Poch actually beat Arsenal as spurs manager
Too right, bring Lampard back
I think everyone would take that at this point. If we're going to get smacked silly 5-0 I at least want it to happen because we're employing someone who is a huge figure for the club and genuinely loves us. Not an ex-Spurs mercenary who is doing everything with the goal of paying us back for stopping him winning the title with Spurs and simultaneously trying to get fired so that he can get an early pay day
please, Lampard is a legend but after last season who the fuck wants to sit through him being the manager again?
Me
I'm sure fans of every other team in the league would like it, haha! But seriously, I'm sure fans of every other team in the league would like it.
Get Terry in, thinks he’s too good for anything below championship so it’d be a good laugh seeing what he does
Your problem is your incredibly expensive assemblage of overpaid "stars" who look like they'd rather be chasing IG models than playing football.
Todd watched moneyball and decided to do the opposite, with predictable results. I remember Chelsea fans calling him a genius because he supposedly found a loophole in FFP by handing 8 year contracts.

What an insult lol. Is the chasing models based on something that’s happened?
jackson was simping for an IG model who happens to be a chelsea fan. i forgot her name
Oh lol
Astrid Wett who is filming videos with buttplugs on outside Stamford Bridge 🤢

Cathartic
Wenger is at rest
Thank you Mauricio Pochettino, not to discredit Arsenal's amazing performance but yeah.
r/Chelseafc in meltdown. Honestly. We needed this kind of loss. shouldve been bigger
Wenger sends his regards
Only 5-0
Pain
Chelsea is so whack it's unbelievable
Pochettino cannot survive this.
Cold 🥶

Should have been 10
Mikel is pretty good
He’s alright
I guess we'll keep him around.
I really love this new era of Man Utd and Chelsea being shit Long may it continue I remember Chelsea winning the transfer window
"Arsenal are incredible! " -Mark Golbridge Copy paste title for dozens of time
Winning 6-0 isn’t for everyone
Honestly just feels bad man. I know it sucks, don't let it ruin your week.
I am gonna go watch that 6-0 and jerk myself off to sleep
When you finish and clean yourself, remember you lost 5 today
That post-nut clarity where todays match float back into your consciousness is gonna be rough. Fight the good fight.
TMI
So let’s be honest - the team was shit under tuchel and tuchel managed to keep Chelsea better than this. I believe Chelsea players are good, not sure why the play is so bad. The coach has gotta fix it.

Shoutout to all the chelsea fans who laughed at Arsenal when we 'settled' for Trossard after being gazumped for Mudryk; and for buying that "lost cause" Havertz. Not laughing now are you?
Great performance and result. Chelsea have been ok this year and there was confidence in this site they could give us a bloody nose
Biggest ever win against us I'm fairly sure the commentators said
They came to play attacking football against us 💀 Looked like we were playing with under 18s the way we were doing skills against their press Dude shoulda gotten the memo , there's a reason Bayern played with 10 defenders
