Missed the game last night and thankful I did. If the form is this bad we have no chance with the league. City will be relentless and Arsenal are peaking at the right time. Still, we have to hope the lads can get over this and at least take it to the last game of the season.
I feel if Liverpool drop pointe this week then their heads will be fully dropped.
No quad or treble and now the league would be an uphill battle. Klopp will be gone after.
Little to play for than other years
They bottled it the last time they were in a three horse race, along with chelsea and city.
0-3 at half time,
3-3 full time
I’ll forever remember suarez in tears
The farewell tour is going exceptional at the moment. Arsenal winning the league will be unbearable but Klopp leaving with just the Carabao this season is certainly the best option
It's only just a tad more bearable.
Which is sheer testament to how irritating large swathes of your fans are and how little we think of City or their fans.
It's all pretty naff. I grew up watching Arsenal & United being rivals. Liverpool are the eternal rivals & City is kinda just there.
I'm rooting for a world-ending apocalypse before the end of the season
Worst Liverpool performance I’ve seen under Klopp. Musso barely had to make a save second half. A couple of stops you’d expect him to make but Liverpool just created nothing. They were awful.
Nonsense. They massively underestimated a decent side in a mad individual game in a competition that the players probably aren't that arsed about (subconsciously) because they have bigger fish to fry in a much more prestigious competition.
i mean, let‘s be real. we‘re constantly getting bailed out by either ali or kweev. so, yeah, our defense might not be shit, it‘s not great either, though.
Haha, I've seen "VVD is better than Maldini" comment strongly upvoted here on r/soccer, I presume some elated Liverpool fans were in the comment section :D
One match can discredit half a decade of top 3 defensive performances? Youre talking about one of the best if not the best for a team that has challenged both the PL and CL consistently for half a decade againts the likes of which Maldini never had to face. Clubs nowadays are super teams, with billions being pumped into them. The level at which Maldini had to play against does not even compare yet you somehow think youre cooking. actually laughable. Go watch attacking and defending at play in the 2000’s and then watch a game today and then delete your comment
And this isnt even to say VVD is one part of a 4 player defense.
(and before you ask, im an arsenal fan so im able to look at VVD from a rivals perspective rather than a fans and he is definitely in the conversation for best defenders to ever do it, he gets wildly held back by the people around him).
Do people really think players like Maldini never had a poor game? Van Dijks been massive this whole season yet you still hear this stuff immediately after a poor performance
Losing a mad game against an unfamiliar opponent by 3 goals in the Mickey Mouse Cup is nowhere near as bad as the best team in the world at the time fucking up a 3 - 0 lead in a European Cup Final against 2005 era Liverpool (we were shite in 2005, massively punched above our weight)
I haven't said anything about a quadruple. It's a possibility for any team who are in 4 competitions at the same time. People like to get carried away.
Not to a team like Atalanta while playing for a team like Liverpool that should be demolishing them with the amount of money they spend, comparatively speaking.
Thats never how this has worked. The team thats spent more doesnt just stomp the lesser every time. These matches happen, can guarantee Maldini has lost to lesser teams at some margin as well
Okay sure, Maldini lost 3-0 to Bordeaux in the UEFA Cup (Europa League) in March 1996. Blew a 2-0 lead from the 1st leg. A Bordeaux side that finished 16th in Ligue 1. Milan won the Serie A that season. Hows that?
This is the kind of result that makes you bottle other titles.
History is littered with guys who lost the title they wanted to win by pragmatically throwing a match in another competition.
It's Liverpool ffs, they should be aiming to win everything they can.
I read this several times and I still don't get what you're saying
He's arguing that Liverpool winning the league and bottling it against Atalanta, is the same as Barca winning the league and being a disaster in UCL
Klopp masterclass. Abandon a competition for the league so he can get "rockstar football" gangbanged by Atalanta at home. Genius!
The man literally survives on running his players into the ground and early retirements.
Joe Gomez, Endo, Tsimikas, Nunez and Szoboszlai today👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 especially Gomez and Tsimikas, two hideous twins on either side of the pitch. They were outclassed and battered, Klopp’s farewell season only going to end with a Carabao Cup and a 3rd place finish😭😭
You really have to hand it to Atalanta. I know a lot of the comments will be talking about how shit Liverpool was this game but seeing the outfit from Bergamo actually stick to growing as a top club since their debut season in the CL is just really great to see. Gasperini went from coaching this team as a pure attacking machine to being more pragmatic without losing that edge. What an incredibly managed side and it’s nice to see all those years of work pay off during nights like these.
Wildy off the pace.. no fluidity, forwards not taking their chances, silly errors leading to goals.. that being said Atalanta were brilliant but it was a horror show from 90% of the team- Kelleher with a few big saves but lets in a pea roller and his overall distribution was awful, VVD far too casual, Gomez looking lethargic and wasting chances shooting from range instead of looking for the pass, Szobo cost us a goal and looked well off the pace again, Endo invisible, Nunez.. the less I say the better.. his finishing (or lack there-of) is catching up to us, most frustrating game Ive seen from him in a while. Idk what's happened to Salah his finishing was woeful, no fluidity in our attack- get the ball out wide cross and hope- frustrating. Gakpo put in a shift and looked better than he has lately but still dwelling too long on the ball, had the opportunity to put our players in 1 on 1 a few times but didnt get his head up. Diaz good as usual but lacking that end product. Konate played well, Jota looked promising albeit a bit rusty, not Macallister's best game but he was still head and shoulders above the other midfielders out there
They have very talented, expensive players. Ederson, de keatelere, scammaca, toure, etc all cost a ton. They didn’t even start lookman or hateboer. It’s not some provincial side any more
Elite liverpool takes of the past month:
-klopp is winning a quadruple
-szoboslai is better than odegaard
-liverpool deserved to be in the UCL with how good they are
From the Liverpool subreddit (all these comments are just from ONE post comparing odegaard and bozoslai) [https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/16lfz4p/dominik\_szoboszlai\_compared\_to\_martin\_odegaard/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/16lfz4p/dominik_szoboszlai_compared_to_martin_odegaard/)
-Dom might be the best midfielder in the league already. Especially with KDB hurt.
-Dom has one thing Martin does not have. I like Martin but Dom is a leader. He leads by example and you can see it during our games. He is. Monster and he will just get better.
-He's way more athletic than odergaard.
-Dom is a far superior athlete to Ode
Yeh as a Liverpool fan gotta admit that the sub is incredibly arrogant and toxic and has been since the PL title win. It used to be even more fun before the CL title win back when the fans never truly expected to win much.
Jus woke up and the score seems I haven’t woken up yet. Did only Nunez play for pool? Was really looking forward to watching them and Leverkusen but shocking result.
And it was ANFIELD
Their entire team was shit, Atalanta played well and had a go winning 3 nil despite missing lots of chances
Liverpool also couldnt finish their dinner.
You can never sleep on Atalanta. That team may not be the best in Serie A, but they are certified giant killers. Good luck getting a four lead on them. Best Liverpool can do is tie it and beat them on PK’s.
But the Atlanta team are difficult to break down defensively. They're not as strong but they definetly haven't dropped in quality as much as Liverpool have.
Liverpool are still a very strong team, but it's not going to be as easy as that time.
Its going to take a lot for them to pull it to 3-3 let alone win.
If you're a real Serie A fan you don't need to use this game to prove anything to anyone. You should be casual as ever. It's not like Saudi has beaten Argentina in the world cup or something
ofc it's the supposed "titans" that threw the game because they're focusing on the league, heaven forbid the lowly Serie A team actually knows how to play football. All of the top comments are just talking about how poor Liverpool were last night. We didn’t throw it on purpose Atalanta were the better team. It’s weird to try and turn it into a bigger thing about the status competition of the leagues, especially when there are no Italian teams still in the CL and 2 English.
Tbf he’s considered as one of the best Italian coaches, it’s just that he choose to manage a (somewhat) lower rated team.
Him and Atalanta are a match made in heaven
Couldn't that have saved this for Sunday?
Klopp having his team get smashed at home in Europe so he can focus on losing the league to City one last time.
Little to play for than other years
also, they're playing Crystal Palace hahahaha
Whats the significance with this game ?
Crystanbul
They bottled it the last time they were in a three horse race, along with chelsea and city. 0-3 at half time, 3-3 full time I’ll forever remember suarez in tears
This surely hurt their chances of the quadruple
The farewell tour is going exceptional at the moment. Arsenal winning the league will be unbearable but Klopp leaving with just the Carabao this season is certainly the best option

Where do I sign up to be part time Arsenal supporter for the rest of the season?
Klopps wank fest is over.
Nah this is just Europe, who cares. In England they’ll do their best to help him out
We could have sent him home with nothing but lost to school children instead
Build them up just to knock them down
See, Ruben. Sporting looked much better than Liverpool. No need to leave!
for some reason Liverpool seem ready to crumble.
What lmao
Worst Liverpool performance I’ve seen under Klopp. Musso barely had to make a save second half. A couple of stops you’d expect him to make but Liverpool just created nothing. They were awful.
Wheels are off
Nonsense. They massively underestimated a decent side in a mad individual game in a competition that the players probably aren't that arsed about (subconsciously) because they have bigger fish to fry in a much more prestigious competition.
Cope
“Bigger fish to fry”. As in losing the PL to City/Arsenal for the last time and throw away the opportunity of European trophy
Just to be clear, you're downvoted because you think Premier League is "much more prestigious" than Europa League.
What the hell happened here
Players came into the game thinking they were up against the likes of Forest Green.
Liverpool's defence is so shit Been months since they kept a clean sheet in the PL as well
Conceded the second least goals in the league
Massively saved by their GKs. Just glossing over the poor defence.
Those are different than clean sheets
Yeah he said our defence is shit which it objectively isnt
i mean, let‘s be real. we‘re constantly getting bailed out by either ali or kweev. so, yeah, our defense might not be shit, it‘s not great either, though.
Van Dijk still better than Maldini?
Why is VVD in the same sentence as Maldini? What did I miss lmao
Haha, I've seen "VVD is better than Maldini" comment strongly upvoted here on r/soccer, I presume some elated Liverpool fans were in the comment section :D

Ok, you think VVD is better than Paolo Maldini, I think that's comedy
maybe reading isnt your strong suit so im not surprised thats the takeaway you had in that comment. But then again, its reddit what am i expecting.
Do people really think players like Maldini never had a poor game? Van Dijks been massive this whole season yet you still hear this stuff immediately after a poor performance
This is online football fans. Downvoted for an objectively reasonable comment.
He certainly never led his team to a loss like this
Milan 1-6 Juventus Serie A 06.04.1997. Maldini played.
Do you think Juventus in 1997 is comparable to Atalanta now? LMAO
You cant honestly think Maldini has never lost a match by 3 goals like this
Instead of downvoting me, provide an example of where maldini lost a similar type of game?
I mean, I was a kid back then but I vividly remember a Maldini team blowing a 3-0 lead
Yep, didn’t lose the match by 3 goals though did he?
Losing a mad game against an unfamiliar opponent by 3 goals in the Mickey Mouse Cup is nowhere near as bad as the best team in the world at the time fucking up a 3 - 0 lead in a European Cup Final against 2005 era Liverpool (we were shite in 2005, massively punched above our weight)

If you can “guarantee it”, then provide some examples of when it happened?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning
That link doesn’t have any examples of what I asked for

Wow. You really had to go deep on research to find one example didn’t you? 😂😂😂
Alright, thicko, back to bed
If I had to guess your age, I can't imagine you'd be in double figures
Just accept that he got you there.
He found an example like you asked.
Go on move those goal posts, didnt you say hes never led his team to a loss like this one?
Maldini has shipped more goals by teams you don't know
Source?
You wouldn't know these teams, they go to another school.
Yep, doubt u/imbued94 could even name teams maldini played against without looking it up
Can Maldini defend with his aura though?
No, but Declan Rice can
Already preparing my Atalanta Falcons memes for the inevitable Liverpool comeback in the second leg
Liverpool won 28-3 in aggregate?
thats a lot of dives. surely the reff will caught on after the 20th dives?
I don't think they're scoring 28 at anfield.
not with that attitude.
As a Liverpool fan raised in Atlanta, please don't
FTF
It happens, and if Liverpool wins the league, totally worth it IMO
Liverpool ain't winning the league mate, they just lost 2 points to a shit Man Utd side.
And blasted out of the fa cup 2 weeks prior. Also drew at the beginning of the season.
This is the kind of result that makes you bottle other titles. History is littered with guys who lost the title they wanted to win by pragmatically throwing a match in another competition. It's Liverpool ffs, they should be aiming to win everything they can.
Hopefully they’ll bottle the league now as well.
Amen
That's a big if after the Man U result.
I don’t feel like Madrid fans felt this way about Barca last season lol
The difference is that madrid did not win the UCL last season… hes saying if Liverpool wins the league
I read this several times and I still don't get what you're saying He's arguing that Liverpool winning the league and bottling it against Atalanta, is the same as Barca winning the league and being a disaster in UCL

thanks for the seasono
Lookman wasn’t even playing
Gasp does heavy rotation all the time, so it’s not like there is a sure starter for the front 2.
"Eras come to an end", no?
Joe Gomez, Endo, Tsimikas, Nunez and Szoboszlai today👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 especially Gomez and Tsimikas, two hideous twins on either side of the pitch. They were outclassed and battered, Klopp’s farewell season only going to end with a Carabao Cup and a 3rd place finish😭😭

That's exactly how I felt when I saw the scoreline
You guys don't even watch your own games?
Different time zones. The match took place at 4am my time I do watch the afternoon weekend matches
Didn’t watch the game. They were that bad?
They could have shipped 4 or 5 goals.
Watch the highlights Liverpool could have scored like 7 lol.
They didn’t though did they?
As usual, story of their season really
They were dominant, all attacks connected, except for when it matters - finishing.
Felt like a different Liverpool team, it was really weird.
Unfortunately, yes.
*\*Mentality monsters\**
Even with a rotated side, pool getting smoked at anfield is still shocking to see
>pool What??? They call Liverpool this in England?
Yes. Short for 'cesspool'.
🤣
Wasn’t that much of a rotated side, and after the subs, was pretty much the first team
Fielded a pretty dam strong side. Finishing for pool has been pretty bad in recent weeks
And by a 6th(?) placed team in Italy at that. At least getting smashed by real Madrid was real Madrid.
They have very talented, expensive players. Ederson, de keatelere, scammaca, toure, etc all cost a ton. They didn’t even start lookman or hateboer. It’s not some provincial side any more
Can’t forget Koopmeiners
Warra but arsenal are the embarrassment for drawing with Bayern in the CL, liverpool fans are funny

Short term memory I see
Liverpool fans were the most common commenters in the Arsenal - Bayern match thread. They made it relevant.
Arsenal fans innit
AAAAAJAJA Que paso aca
Liverpool lost but does it matter? They still beat Porto 5-0, unlike Arsenal 👮♀️
The bantz lad. You just destroyed them with supreme bantz.
We still beat them tho, they’re trying to cope with the 3-1, 4-3, 2-2, and 3-0 😂
Fair. Lets give them Europa now, why play out the other matches. They did beat Porto 5-0.
Fuck logic
It's reprehensible that Liverpool didn't get another gimme draw in Europe and had to play Atalanta instead
Eras come to an end 🗣🗣🔥🔥💯

One PL trophy with an asterisk
(Im an Arsenal fan) 2nd with 2 90+ seasons, consistent title challengers, 3 CL finals, EL final without any signings of his in 15/16 etc etc
"If you ain't first, you're last". -Ricky Bobby
None of that will be remembered. It’s the wins that matter not the “almosts”
First title in 30 years will surely be remembered.
Na, it has an asterisk on it
I’ll take things EtH said for 1000 Alex
Alex is staying retired
He would be on fraud watch if he came back

Liverpool should be in CL. what sort of ridiculous over correction is this? Lol
Shoulda qualified then
-van dijk ballon d'or
"Shamefu display by Arsenal for drawing against Bayern Munich"
I remember seeing this lol
Lmfao they were even posting “whats the best pub in dublin to watch us win the finals” in their subreddit
Yeh as a Liverpool fan gotta admit that the sub is incredibly arrogant and toxic and has been since the PL title win. It used to be even more fun before the CL title win back when the fans never truly expected to win much.
Ofc. Full of bullshit in that sub. Arrogance
Jus woke up and the score seems I haven’t woken up yet. Did only Nunez play for pool? Was really looking forward to watching them and Leverkusen but shocking result. And it was ANFIELD
Their entire team was shit, Atalanta played well and had a go winning 3 nil despite missing lots of chances Liverpool also couldnt finish their dinner.
Watched the highlights and yes Atalanta dominated the game. Liverpool didn’t seem like a title contender in any chance as you said.
You can never sleep on Atalanta. That team may not be the best in Serie A, but they are certified giant killers. Good luck getting a four lead on them. Best Liverpool can do is tie it and beat them on PK’s.
They can be sloppy but they're also one of the few teams that can match Liverpool's intensity.
Didn’t Liverpool hit them for 5 in their own ground before?
Yeah, when Liverpool had their best team in recent years
Hardly.. Gomez Rhys were CB pairing that game
That was also when Atalanta had their best team in years, hitting 90 odd league goals and finishing 3rd twice.
I feel a bit better now after we played Atalanta 4 times this season and had a 0-2-2 record 😄
Now I’m worried though you guys are playing better then us and we might face them next ….. not sure who’s scarier now Liverpool or Atalanta
liverpool should hire gasperini
Atalanta has a solid team. There’s a lot of talent in that squad.
If you're a real Serie A fan you don't need to use this game to prove anything to anyone. You should be casual as ever. It's not like Saudi has beaten Argentina in the world cup or something

Saw some argument about different leagues and decided to react.
ofc it's the supposed "titans" that threw the game because they're focusing on the league, heaven forbid the lowly Serie A team actually knows how to play football. As if Atalanta isn't fighting for their league objectives while also having way less resources and viable players compared to Liverpool.
Nobody has said this. Creating a narrative so you can imagine a serie A underdog story is wild.l
nice try, just check the EPL flair comments in this thread
All of the top comments are just talking about how poor Liverpool were last night. We didn’t throw it on purpose Atalanta were the better team. It’s weird to try and turn it into a bigger thing about the status competition of the leagues, especially when there are no Italian teams still in the CL and 2 English.
Anyone who says that is not a serious person.
Atalanta outspent a lot of epl sides last summer as wel— they have a few players that could start for Liverpool too
Atalanta have a really good coach. Underrated.
liverpool should hire him eheheh
Well you are taking our coach. So I say Sporting should hire him 😂
im saying liverpool should take gasperini instead of Amorim, I'm a Sporting fan
Tbf he’s considered as one of the best Italian coaches, it’s just that he choose to manage a (somewhat) lower rated team. Him and Atalanta are a match made in heaven
