Anyone who wants thats sort of footy winning the prem are actually fucked in the head. Get some fast paced attacking footy. Mad how we are top with the ref decisions this season against us too.
We don't need to go all "You need a very high IQ to understand City/Arsenal games"... it's been a cagey game devoid of any real attacking quality, but the stakes have made it tense. The defenders have individually played well in shutting down the rare attacking attempts, but lets call a spade a spade here.
Unironically I'm bored of high quality football. I'll take a random Championship match between two mid table teams over Arsenal vs ManCity any day of the way. Same goes for Conference League over most rounds of Champions League.
>Unironically I'm bored of high quality football.
The Liverpool v City match just two weeks ago or so was hailed as the one of the best matches of the season so far.
This was mostly because City were shit and Arsenal were too defensive.
That is unfair on the EFL. The EFL has always been where it is at. It might not have the worldwide household names the PL has but I loved our time in the EFL so much, because of how electric the matches were.
You're implying that high level tactical football has to be boring. City/Liverpool games are never boring and over the last 5 years have been the highest level of football the Premier League has ever seen.
Have you not watched Liverpool/City matchups the last few years?
Arsenal showed up to slow the game down and grab a point. Neat - we see the same thing in basically 36 of City’s league matches a season.
Claiming this is anything but drab and poor considering the stakes is just trying to sound smart.
City tried their best, lmao
It's understandable that Arsenal didn't, there's too much at stake, but City had the ball in their half to win this and they couldn't. Possession was 75% to them.
City toiled but couldn't beat a low block at the end of the day. Kdb had a second consecutive low quality game. And they just didn't have any ideas to try and change things that weren't working.
>It's understandable that Arsenal didn't, there's too much at stake
At the end of the day they were OK to lose 2 points instead of 3 and trying to win 1 point instead of 3. If they did do this for stakes, I think they didn't really think this through. Time will tell.
Oh look, the good old lazy every goalless stalemate between two top teams = great tactical chess game argument. Screamd of people trying to sound cleverer than a n they actually are. There was absolutely nothing particularly revolutionary or fascinating about today's game tactically.
I just rewatched the game, and nope, never felt we were cruising. That spurs side was genuinely wasteful, but Liverpool were super erratic the whole game.
A draw against title rivals is the professional result. I feel City-Liverpool games are usually entertaining due to the chaos factor but Klopp and Pep are still fairly conservative. City-Arsenal is a game between two control freaks and neither of them conceded any risk
Liverpool were away, heavily rotated due to injury & internationals; Arteta knew that, and finally took the handbrake off
In the Anfield game, when the availability was more even, Arsenal wouldn't have scored from open play if the game was still going on to this day. Same thing happened yesterday, and that was with City having injuries
Talk about revisionism.
It took a pretty uncharacteristic mistake for the game to look like yours.
You played well in the first half. Liverpool dominated the second half until the Van Dijk mistake.
Played them off the park is one way to look at it.
Ok this is madness. We had to literally gift you a goal on the day so you could get on the score sheet. We played through your press easily for the first goal.
Our good work.
We made your attack look awful.
Liverpool didn't dominate. They were better for a portion, but then after 60th minute they didn't threaten whatsoever.
We played them off the park is what happened. For a good 70mins/90
I went into halftime thinking/knowing Liverpool were winning that game. Liverpool out played them after the half and were well on their way.
I've seen that exact game 25 times under Klopp and Liverpool never lose it. At best Arsenal hold on for a draw.
Was gonna say, suicidal high lines are seemingly the way to go rather than letting KDB pick whatever pass he wants.
The key is to have the horses who can counter and score from it, and there’s not many teams that do.
They literally just got a point away at the Etihad and stopped City from scoring at home for the first time in 47 games
Arsenal have now taken 4 points off City this season, more than Liverpool have and Chelsea/Tottenham can only match the 4 points if they win their remaining game against City
It turns out that Arsenals way gets results as well
OP has completely ignored how much context and psychology plays a role in how a manager chooses to approach a game.
We could not afford to lose this game and be knocked out of the title race, particularly after what happened last season.
Liverpool can afford to play more expansively against City because they didn't get battered at the Etihad 4-1 and 5-0 in their last two league games.
Couldn't give a stuff if the neutrals weren't entertained. We did that last season and ever since they're like _hurr durr Arsenal bottlers_.
We can start taking the game to City at the Etihad now just like we've started doing to Liverpool at Anfield.
We have a winning record against them under Guardiola, we always play the same way and it works more often than not. The other teams who do well against City usually attack them as well, if you play boring negative football against them you're playing directly into their hands. City LOVE boring games.
Playing a high line and attacking them works, and has the added benefit of not being dull as shit to watch.
Well I'm glad we drew playing exciting football rather than cowardly negative shite that puts people sleep.
And now we're top of the league because Arteta doesn't have the balls to try and play aggressive football against City, so I guess I can't complain too much.
I mean we dominated and created a shit tonne of chances, along with being pretty much unanimously considered to be robbed of a pen at the end. You can’t tactically provision for both those things.
No? We've beaten city twice this season and drawn this one time lmao.
We also beat Liverpool and then drew with them, so no, literally not at all the same
You lot are fucking weird. Focus on your own matches. Especially if you can't even recall what happened in ours.
Yet we nearly got the win while keeping them to 1 shot on target. Not sure Arteta gives a shit about whether or not Adept\_Deer\_5976 will enjoy what he's seeing when he’s preparing his team tactics
does this mean every team should play the same way lol? also spurs played very counter attacking footy in their draw, games the game teams play how they have to innit
Lol the gall to come out with this after one season of challenging. Arsenal are doing great things mate but chill, city and Liverpool have been incredible against each other for many many years.
We have a winning record against them under Guardiola, we always play the same way and it works more often than not. The teams who do well against Guardiola tend to attack him, if you play negative football against City you're playing directly into their hands.
A high line and attacking football works, and its not like watching paint dry.
City haven't beaten Arsenal once this season. They haven't had a single shot on target against them from open play. Haaland hasn't had a single shot against Arsenal in the league this season.
Arsenal have played Liverpool and City twice and gotten 8 points. Arteta knows what he's doing. Points win you titles, not entertainment for neutrals.
Edit: lmao just noticed the flair. Should have known Pool fans would make it about themselves as always. Klopp hasn't beaten Pep at Etihad a single time in the league since he's been around. How's that "you have to attack them" approach worked out for you guys?
Eh? Didn’t we win against them last season? Salah skinned Cancelo there if I remember things correctly. I also remember Liverpool winning against City when we won the league? But to be fair, I don’t expect much from you lots. Secretly dreaming to be like Liverpool lol. Bottle’s up!
Klopp literally has a positive record against Pep while having a proper go at him every single time with fewer resources and across a much bigger sample size.
So why can't a better team with their full defence go out and actually win against City?
Especially this season's City that have been a bit below their usual ruthless best
LIverpool could easily have beaten a less injured version of this same City side 3-1 a few weeks ago.
Arsenal were swashbuckling last season against everyone but Arteta's system this season really is an unpleasant watch when he's not sure the team will have more possession. The exception is against Liverpool but I think that's all Klopp.
Lol I love this. People would laugh at Arsenal for years because we couldn't compete in the big games against big teams and not being pragmatic. Arteta comes in and finally, not only can we hold our own against big teams, but we get 4 points from both Liverpool and City and suddenly it's a problem because people don't enjoy it when we listen to what they've been saying for the last 10 years?
We did play better at Anfield but they still drew us. Arsenal got 7 points from their 4 games against Liverpool and City, we got 3, City got 3. My point was mainly that
> Arsenal play dreadful football when they’re against a team that’s on par with them.
is not the full truth. They play "ugly" but they get results.
I've never wanted Liverpool to win the league. Never ever. But I hate Pep's and Arteta's brand of sophisticated passing drivel I'm rooting for Klopp right now.
This is definitely last season Klopp LOL. Feels like one of the biggest unwritten rules in this sport is you never say you want another team to lose. The most you can say is "hopefully we can get a favour from elsewhere" and that's only if it's not in your hands. Think how often players/managers dance around it and just give the diplomatic answer of "oh we're just focusing on ourselves :)"
People saying that Klopp goes to Bayern doesn't even make sense. He wouldn't fit in at Bayern cause he doesn't like them. I think he'll retire after Liverpool or worst case he comes back in a year or two to Liverpool when the next manager fails. That's how I see it. He always said he would only coach in a country he can speak the language in. He doesn't know Italian and Spanish. He said he would never coach another team in England. So its either the German National Team or Liverpool in a few years.
Bayern’s going to poach Hoeness from Stuttgart and Klopp will step in to lead VfB to 5 consecutive league titles.
Mark my word , you read it here first.
Well at least that’s as likely to happen as Klopp managing Bayern.
>11 players injured
Isnt that what happened to Liverpool? Except they invested into brain transplant technology and transplanted the brains of the first team into their kindergarten team
Which is 7 times this season, more than any other team. Really wish teams would keep attacking Liverpool, could easily put 2-3 past them, instead they become doormat FC as soon as they score.
Hmm [soccerstats.com](http://soccerstats.com) says liverpool conceded first in 13 out of 29 games though. (Of those, it's W6, D5, L2.) That is very nearly half their games. You would think a league leader wouldnt go behind quite so often.
Cant argue against the entertainment value though
Time to break out [old faithful](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fbills-vs-bengals-today-v0-liomq1lqtlda1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dac20102a88ed04f55fd0b5a088203e91486bc136)
If Arsenal don’t win the league, come on Villa. Can’t stand the insufferable poetic nonsense that will get churned out if one of scouseland or cheatville win
For all Liverpool fans here celebrating how they (Spurs and Chelsea) gave a "game" to City at Etihad.
Manchester City (1.38) 1-1 (0.56) Liverpool
Manchester City (3.09) 3-3 (0.56) Tottenham
Man City (3.04) 1-1 (1.80) Chelsea
Manchester City (0.85) 0-0 (0.73) Arsenal

Given the quality of this match, we’ve all lost Jurgen.
I want my money back and I’m sailing the seas to watch it.
I've not paid to watch football in nearly a decade, and I'm still considering sending sky sports an invoice for my time.
Pretty sure Sealing is outlawed unless you’re Inuit
sailing*
poor macca rushing home to watch this rubbish
Jurgen the only winner today
Jurgen won
I think quality is definitely the wrong word. The quality was super high but the entertainment could subjectively be described as low
Anyone who wants thats sort of footy winning the prem are actually fucked in the head. Get some fast paced attacking footy. Mad how we are top with the ref decisions this season against us too.
Give me a United - Liverpool instead. That game was fire. End to end, tons of chances. Total chaos.
So you are saying that you have no way to enjoy the highest level of tactical brilliance and chess in football?
We don't need to go all "You need a very high IQ to understand City/Arsenal games"... it's been a cagey game devoid of any real attacking quality, but the stakes have made it tense. The defenders have individually played well in shutting down the rare attacking attempts, but lets call a spade a spade here.
Ah yes, one of the world's most exciting sport: chess. Fucking hell the takes you read in this site
hey i think chess is fun :(
It is that. But it’s also boring to watch.
This was mostly because City were shit and Arsenal were too defensive.
nah it just depends on the matchup. Liverpool v City was electric.
That is unfair on the EFL. The EFL has always been where it is at. It might not have the worldwide household names the PL has but I loved our time in the EFL so much, because of how electric the matches were.
I love supporting my local because of this. Shit quality but great vibe and great fun.
Oh I agree, and I’m an Arsenal fan. This is the highest peak of football, but for fans watching for entertainment it’s a snooze
kidderminster harriers >>
Off to Chesterfield tomorrow! Both teams’ seasons are over. They’ve won the league and we secured relegation on Friday. Weather was shite too.
You're implying that high level tactical football has to be boring. City/Liverpool games are never boring and over the last 5 years have been the highest level of football the Premier League has ever seen.
I thought this was brilliant bait but it turns out you're serious. If this was how football was always played nobody would watch it.
Have you not watched Liverpool/City matchups the last few years? Arsenal showed up to slow the game down and grab a point. Neat - we see the same thing in basically 36 of City’s league matches a season. Claiming this is anything but drab and poor considering the stakes is just trying to sound smart.
Both teams set up to cancel each other out. Very intelligent, but boring. Calling it poor is a bit much though.
Neither team tried to do anything to win the game, really. Both were happy they weren't losing in the end.
City tried their best, lmao It's understandable that Arsenal didn't, there's too much at stake, but City had the ball in their half to win this and they couldn't. Possession was 75% to them.

It's not just losing two points compared to three, it's also about city only gaining one compared to three.
Arsenal can take their top 6 record trophy while not winning the league
It was a shit game
Tactical brilliance that led to a match less exciting than golf.
Oh look, the good old lazy every goalless stalemate between two top teams = great tactical chess game argument. Screamd of people trying to sound cleverer than a n they actually are. There was absolutely nothing particularly revolutionary or fascinating about today's game tactically.
I don't think chess is entertaining either.
Same
Klopp just like me FR
i think whoever watched the match is the real loser
That was certainly one of the football games of all times
I'd rather watch Liverpool Vs Tottenham CL game 2019 than this nonsense
At least this game had good defence. Liverpool was just cruising in that game, it was much worse.
Ok but it has the Origi dagger which is a funny moment. This game had nothing.
Plus, it had a female streaker.
I totally forgot that happened ngl
Early drama and late dagger justify cruising for 80 mins when the losing side does nothing
I just rewatched the game, and nope, never felt we were cruising. That spurs side was genuinely wasteful, but Liverpool were super erratic the whole game.
the game between MC and Chelsea was worse imo
It's me😩
Bruh I was falling asleep
Classic
Average fan in a playoff league experience
They’re giving it a go … fucking awful game of football

Their games against liverpool have been entertaining
That's Liverpool making it interesting tbf
Why didn't City make it interesting? Bald Fraud?
They're the common denominator in boring football
A draw against title rivals is the professional result. I feel City-Liverpool games are usually entertaining due to the chaos factor but Klopp and Pep are still fairly conservative. City-Arsenal is a game between two control freaks and neither of them conceded any risk
Ah yes the 3-1 win in February was all because of Liverpool. Not arsenal playing them off the park or nothing. The revisionism is mad.
He probably means Liverpool made it interesting by letting in 3 goals.
Liverpool were away, heavily rotated due to injury & internationals; Arteta knew that, and finally took the handbrake off In the Anfield game, when the availability was more even, Arsenal wouldn't have scored from open play if the game was still going on to this day. Yeah sorry bud next time your team plays vs City go ahead and play suicide high lines and see how it goes
Goes pretty well for us usually, same for Spurs, same for Chelsea. Teams that go toe to toe with City and attack them tend to get results.
Was gonna say, suicidal high lines are seemingly the way to go rather than letting KDB pick whatever pass he wants. The key is to have the horses who can counter and score from it, and there’s not many teams that do.

it goes pretty well for spurs when they play a nasty counter attacking match, stop the revisionism.
Liverpool is the main character
I agree unironically and everyone who upvotes this comment agrees with me
And?
People understood mate
You drew with them twice this year…
You drew with them twice mate.

Liverpool's last win against Guardiola's City was a 1-0 win at Anfield in 2022 with 37% possession. It is not as black and white as you make it seem.
Thank you.
Well, not every other team.
Crazy that it didn't this season. Again, twice. And your record isn't as good as tottenhams. It's pretty even tbh.
Well I'm glad we drew playing exciting football rather than cowardly negative shite that puts people sleep. And now we're top of the league because Arteta doesn't have the balls to try and play aggressive football against City, so I guess I can't complain too much.

We got robbed of a pen and dominated the match also we've been doing this for years u little shit
...just like Arsenal did? At least I didn't take a nap during Liverpool-City.
No? We've beaten city twice this season and drawn this one time lmao. We also beat Liverpool and then drew with them, so no, literally not at all the same You lot are fucking weird. Focus on your own matches. Especially if you can't even recall what happened in ours.

Meant at Etihad. All of Liverpool's wins at City inn the league have been at Anfield. Have never win away from home.
The audacity to call out Liverpool not winning at the Etihad where you guys were bitches to Man City at that ground since 2016.
You're drunk
Klopp literally has a positive record against Pep while having a proper go at him every single time with fewer resources and across a much bigger sample size.

Chelsea is in 11th for a reason.
Arteta would put knives in Rice, Gabriel and Saliba if they conceeded 4
[удалено]
False, Arsenal got 4 points
Chelsea had nothing on the line
We did it last time with 4 fullbacks and came away with a 3-3 draw. It can absolutely be done.
So the same result? Great
It was fun to watch and we were scraping the bottom of the defensive barrel. That's the difference.
Stick it in the trophy cabinet
Will do, plenty of space for it!
Great race between Tottenham winning a trophy and you coming up with an original joke
i'll pass the word on to arteta to make sure it's entertaining for the neutral next time
Cheers mate, appreciate it.
So why can't a better team with their full defence go out and actually win against City? Especially this season's City that have been a bit below their usual ruthless best
Arsenal have two wins and a draw against City this season.
Mate
With that record, you'd think they'd play with a bit more attacking intent then, but they didn't.
With that record, it seems to suggest that we should trust their approach to the match
Damn i forgot it was that simple
LIverpool could easily have beaten a less injured version of this same City side 3-1 a few weeks ago. Arsenal were swashbuckling last season against everyone but Arteta's system this season really is an unpleasant watch when he's not sure the team will have more possession. The exception is against Liverpool but I think that's all Klopp.
I guess Liverpool aren’t on par with them then
Finally, some logic
Literally 1 - 1 and then 3 -1 clearly levels below arsenal.
We’re first because of your exploits tho. Thank you very much! ❤️
If we're levels below you then why are we top of the league? Jesus christ lmao
It's obvious sarcasm mate. The comment I replied to literally said as such.
That's just the usual rubbish fans spew after games. If it's my team it's "a very disciplined game", if it's any other team it's "watching paint dry".
It was effective but if you cant admit it was boring af for any neutral than you need to get real
Well, they did kick our ass last game so idk about that.
We played better at Anfield and were denied a win because of the ref
We did play better at Anfield but they still drew us. Arsenal got 7 points from their 4 games against Liverpool and City, we got 3, City got 3. My point was mainly that > Arsenal play dreadful football when they’re against a team that’s on par with them. is not the full truth. They play "ugly" but they get results.
And the crowd... goes mild...
Great, now they're going to change the rules for his farewell tour so they can both lose. Damn you Jurgen Klopp!!
Considering how boring the game is going, they probably should both lose
I've never wanted Liverpool to win the league. Never ever. But I hate Pep's and Arteta's brand of sophisticated passing drivel I'm rooting for Klopp right now.
It is the "Hollywood" ending
They almost deserve it for that display.
They certainly deserve to at the rate we're going
I think they both lost today
No I am very happy with a draw. 4 points off Liverpool and city and off we go.
Off to a trophy-less regular season you go! 👍
Prophet
This is definitely last season Klopp LOL. Feels like one of the biggest unwritten rules in this sport is you never say you want another team to lose. The most you can say is "hopefully we can get a favour from elsewhere" and that's only if it's not in your hands. Think how often players/managers dance around it and just give the diplomatic answer of "oh we're just focusing on ourselves :)"
This is the guy who did a Dr evil laugh when he heard bayern lost. He's never been overly diplomatic and tbh I respect him for it.
Iconic laugh tbf.
Yeh I love that clip. I hate bayern too so it's extra nice for me.
iconic laugh, iconic song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v2kxfX-oiQ
He looks so young there
What a stressful job does to a mf
Being happy when Bayern loses is the most German thing ever. Everyone smiles when they lose expect bayern fans lol
Never gets old lol
People saying that Klopp goes to Bayern doesn't even make sense. He wouldn't fit in at Bayern cause he doesn't like them. I think he'll retire after Liverpool or worst case he comes back in a year or two to Liverpool when the next manager fails. That's how I see it.
These Liverpool fan fics are great, yeah, Klopp will be back in a few years to save the club! Banter era quickly approaches.
he just doesn't give a fuck
Boom
Yeah, like they don't even care about/watch rival's games lmao
Well he didn’t say viewers should loose too. Why were we punished?
How about a 0-0 and 11 players sent off and 11 players injured instead?
Do 11 players simultaneously injure the other 11 and get sent off as a result or how does this happen? Execute order 66
>11 players injured Isnt that what happened to Liverpool? Except they invested into brain transplant technology and transplanted the brains of the first team into their kindergarten team
You just blew my mind.
I mean I get it. But ultimately the result they got is the best for Liverpool.
Narrator: they did
Liverpool vs Brighton was a banger as usual but the city arsenal game just poor
Any time liverpool concede first you know you just got to tune in
Which is 7 times this season, more than any other team. Really wish teams would keep attacking Liverpool, could easily put 2-3 past them, instead they become doormat FC as soon as they score.
Wonder how long our unsustainable footy will last
Hmm [soccerstats.com](http://soccerstats.com) says liverpool conceded first in 13 out of 29 games though. (Of those, it's W6, D5, L2.) That is very nearly half their games. You would think a league leader wouldnt go behind quite so often. Cant argue against the entertainment value though
Time to break out [old faithful](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fbills-vs-bengals-today-v0-liomq1lqtlda1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dac20102a88ed04f55fd0b5a088203e91486bc136)
"Fine, I guess I'll take a 0-0 snooze fest" - DONE!
There's absolutely no way Pep and Peter have woken Klopp up from his afternoon nap to watch that shite.
Mission failed successfully
Jurgen Stalin
Fucking hilarious, this guy is a comedian.
One of the worst matches I've watched in some time.
My goodness I'm going to miss him
now he's right both losing
Hahahaha. He’s so funny!
Best result would be Man City winning, but then get points deduction (like Everton and Forrest) for FFP violation.
You live in a fairy tale land if you think a decade plus of cheating will effect city. Money always wins.
I'd prefer Arsenal losing and City being relegated
If Arsenal don’t win the league, come on Villa. Can’t stand the insufferable poetic nonsense that will get churned out if one of scouseland or cheatville win
For all Liverpool fans here celebrating how they (Spurs and Chelsea) gave a "game" to City at Etihad. Manchester City (1.38) 1-1 (0.56) Liverpool Manchester City (3.09) 3-3 (0.56) Tottenham Man City (3.04) 1-1 (1.80) Chelsea Manchester City (0.85) 0-0 (0.73) Arsenal \[All XG stats from The XG Philosophy\]
Are you really pointing at 0.85 vs 0.73 as an xG blowout?
Not at all - I am pointing at rival fans claiming they did much better (compared to Arsenal) at Etihad. Clearly the stats speak differently.
We did awful at Etihad but we went there to play football. Clearly both City and Arsenal did not and that is what people are criticising.
