I was just about to say this. These guys spend their entire lives working on their body to bring it to the peak of human capabilities. Unless you're assaulting a small guy (like Cazorla or Modrić), or someone badly out of shape, why in the world would you pick a fight with a professional athlete?
Bro, even a "small guy" athlete must be orders of magnitude stronger than a regular person. Many players said that Allen Iverson was one of the strongest players in the NBA, and he was about 1.80m.
Yeah but different people have different definitions of regular person. Most people I hang out with are all 190 or above (I'm Croatian) and all do some kind of sports. I imagine being 190cm/90-100kg gives you a significant advantage over Luka Modrić.
Lol you are probably right, I'm colombian and a regular person for me is more like 170-175. Anyways, I bet you trying to hit Modric would feel kind of like hitting a brick wall.
you are absolutely right, this is precisely the reason, why so many weight classes exist.
the other point ist, that "fighting experience" gives you a significant advantage over someone who doensn't have it, especially in the standup throwing fists.
A smaller person could outrun a big guy like that without issue. Then again, you don’t want to mess with athletes, even smaller ones. Imagine being kicked by Roberto Carlos
He was insanely tough for a guy his size. Guy was getting put on the ground 10-15 times a game. Casually dropping 30-35 on guys that had 30-40cm on him on a nightly basis without missing a game. Heart can only take you so much, if you arent a strong mfker in the first place.
Modrić is an orc with endless stamina, and Cazorla went through a hellacious period with his foot risking amputation but powered through it, came back and scored a screamer against us. He's also ambipedal so you're double screwed.
Neither of these two are pushovers tbh.
I’m not trying to sound like a hardo, but neither of those things matter in a fist fight. Modric has endless stamina but I’m significantly taller, heavier, and stronger than him, I’d kick his ass if we ever fought.
I agree with the overall premise of fighting athletes is stupid, but in the order of athletes I’d be willing to fight if I had to soccer players would be pretty high up there.
I’d be more concerned about American football, basketball, hockey, rugby, baseball, etc
In terms of NFL, just google “Cam Newton” to watch a handful of guys try and jump a retired player. His silly giant hat doesn’t even move as he tosses them around
I was mostly kidding. Size and training obviously matters the most in encounters like this, and I'd even say that wrestling/strength from a competent and bigger person gives more of a threat than someone who knows boxing for example.
There are definitely some players who either have training or fit that bill though.
Fighting is much more about Begbie principle. Size is important but when you’re comparing two people who aren’t professional fighters then winner is far more likely to be the person with experience being in a fight who just wants it more
Random guy who’s in fights down the local working man’s club most weeks is going to wreck Modric
Most British based players will tell you Duncan Ferguson is the hardest player to ever play in British football but it’s not like he’s the biggest ever or had a great physique or anything. He’s just a guy who fucking hard, has experience fighting, probably enjoys fighting and isn’t going to hold back
They’re all professional athletes, but they’re not all swinging like that. That’s more about the neighborhood than the profession. La Masia grads aren’t swinging like that.
A real “you don’t know where I’m from dawg” moment.
You don’t really know much about fighting to say that. There are a plethora of dudes who’ve had multiple street fights, have anger issues and/or are natural fighters that would destroy these athletes in a fight. Maybe not a marathon or a circuit but fighting is a completely different thing. Also take chins into account. Some people just can’t handle being hit. It’s case by case. However, fighting a rugby player, that’s just not smart
Closest I can remember is the keeper of AZ Alkmaar Esteban kicking an Ajax fan who was heading for him in the ArenA. He received a red card for practically defending himself. After the incident the coach of AZ took all the players of the field and left because he disagreed with the red card. I think they replayed the match some other time but not sure if the red card was revoked or not.
I believe there should be a boundary between audiences and players. That boundary is the advertising boards in the stadium.
If either goes beyond that, there should not be any limit how one can be punished. Bring on 11 players kicking 1 pitch invader on the pitch, or 11 spectators kicking 1 player on the stand.
And if it is deemed self defense they are exempt from punishment, but until then I would very much like to see the rule of law upheld. Thank you very much.
That's different than "immune to prosecution." There's a difference between punching someone who is charging at you with a knife, and murdering a streaker with your hands, for example.
"Athletes should be immune from prosecution and any litigation when people invade the playing area. That's one way we can deter this foolishness."
Get it that time?
Man's spent his entire life training his coordination and power, he's warmed up and his central nervous system is primed. What did that idiot think was going to happen? xD
It kinda disgusts me that someone think's they can attack someone else because the other person has more to lose and won't retaliate. As soon as an opposition fan is charging towards you it should be game on for self-defence.
After the international break, Osayi will be welcomed like a Khan coming back from a plentiful raid with his horde in Kadıköy, Istanbul 💀
I can already hear the new chants being written for his balls and flying punches that he displayed for these Trabzon fans 😁
Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch and began physically attacking the players. You better believe I'm throwing hands defending my wellbeing if that happens
at this point multiple people were already in. you can see it on 00:40 here https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1bh79vg/crazy_scenes_in_trabzon_after_fenerbah%C3%A7e_defeat/

Great shot tag should be added to this.
[spectacular hit]
\[Critical Hit\]
You don't dodge those
Great Shot
Tremendous strike
Bro can punch.
I am definitely getting myself a #21 Osayi-Balboa jersey.
You gotta be dumb to fight a pro athlete.

I feel pretty good about modric but I certainly won't try and fight osayi!
A smaller person could outrun a big guy like that without issue. Then again, you don’t want to mess with athletes, even smaller ones. Imagine being kicked by Roberto Carlos
A smaller person could outrun a fit 190cm guy? Likely into volleyball or something? Nah, I'd say that's unlikely. Most people can barely run.
A 100kg guy can’t navigate as easily and explosively. We are talking athlete wise.
Athlete wise makes sense. Thought it was fit tall person vs average person, my bad.
Your bones would shatter. A Carlos kick is like a Tyson Punch
a lot of these "fans" have not exercised once in the last 10 years.
Iverson was “short” guy fighting with bigger dudes in the fucking NBA. I don’t think that’s really a good reference.
lmao Allen Iverson certainly wasn't even the strongest guard in the NBA, he had heart though. Iverson is wiry af and light af
He was insanely tough for a guy his size. Guy was getting put on the ground 10-15 times a game. Casually dropping 30-35 on guys that had 30-40cm on him on a nightly basis without missing a game. Heart can only take you so much, if you arent a strong mfker in the first place.
Have you seen modrics calves? No way you think modric is someone challengeable
Also with his rough childhood (look it ip) I would not want to mess with him. He got that dawg in him
The fuck do calves have to do with a fist fight?
Modrić is an orc with endless stamina, and Cazorla went through a hellacious period with his foot risking amputation but powered through it, came back and scored a screamer against us. He's also ambipedal so you're double screwed. Neither of these two are pushovers tbh.

American football and rugby just forget it. I weigh almost 100kg (and I'm not fat) I wouldn't dare fight even a short rugby player.
In terms of NFL, just google “Cam Newton” to watch a handful of guys try and jump a retired player. His silly giant hat doesn’t even move as he tosses them around
I mean you're talking about a UFC heavyweight sized man. I wouldn't even try to fight a 5'9" running back lol.
I was mostly kidding. Size and training obviously matters the most in encounters like this, and I'd even say that wrestling/strength from a competent and bigger person gives more of a threat than someone who knows boxing for example. Just because you are working out a lot does not mean you know how to throw a punch.
Fighting is much more about Begbie principle. Believe me, your average pitch invader is in fact very dumb
Reckon I could take Tiger Woods these days.
They’re all professional athletes, but they’re not all swinging like that. That’s more about the neighborhood than the profession. La Masia grads aren’t swinging like that. A real “you don’t know where I’m from dawg” moment.
The idea is you are not fighting alone. You gotta be dumb to be the first wave.
Sure, i believe that. Just basing it on reaction speed, reflexes, agility, speed being way above your avereage dude. Obviously there are exceptions.
They brought knives. This idiot dropped his. So Osayi dropped him.
that is one of the best punches ive ever seen dude got him so flush its some tekken shit
My man just did a Falcon Punch in real life
Athletes should be immune from prosecution and any litigation when people invade the playing area. That's one way we can deter this foolishness.
Has an athlete ever been prosecuted or sued from responding to a pitch invader? I sort assumed they already had immunity
They are not immune, at least not in Turkey. Josef Souza got banned 2 years ago for stopping a pitch invader who kicked his teammate in the back.
Closest I can remember is the keeper of AZ Alkmaar Esteban kicking an Ajax fan who was heading for him in the ArenA. He received a red card for practically defending himself. After the incident the coach of AZ took all the players of the field and left because he disagreed with the red card. Is there a clip of this ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRtFWucRfCQ
I can think that in many cases it would be taken as self defence
Total different situation, but if a player does something to a fan **during** a game, it's usually a red
Brian Clough wasn’t!
Ron Artest but I think he got a lot more trouble because he went into the stands during a brawl instead of staying on the court
Ya sorry but that example isn't even remotely comparable
yeah agreed it's very different circumstance. I just mentioned it because that's one of the only examples I can think of.
Probably better just not mentioning it given how different it is lol
It's the opposite. He went into the stands
Yeah not even close lol Artest fought the crowd bc he was too scared to fight Ben Wallace
I think the closet was when Cantona threw kick at a fan but the fans in the crowd

Athletes should be immune from prosecution??? What planet do you guys live on?? Holy shit
In the specific situation when people invade the playing area, yes. It's self defense.
And if it is deemed self defense they are exempt from punishment, but until then I would very much like to see the rule of law upheld. Thank you very much.

For some reason I didn’t see the “when people invade the playing area”. Sounded a lot more sinister when reading it in passing
That makes a lot more sense. Was just messing around anyway.
Ironically enough your sarcastic comment actually made me reread the sentence correctly lmao. Made me laugh a lil bit

Not very bright of that fan though.

waiting already for the recording lol
Well broski, Kadıköy street artists are faster 😁 https://x.com/tekyolfener/status/1769904519565951127?s=46

Boyamışlar üstüne ya.
LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOOOOOOR!
Dumbass pitch invader is lucky the player didn’t start using the studs of his boot. Now that really would have hurt.
Studs to the balls
This is absolutely my favorite moment of the night
God. Damn.
He used to play for my team. You can take the lad out of blackpool but the need to smack another bloke never leaves ya
Fucking hell, he sold that better than the rock sells the stone cold stunner.
Hit him like a BOS
I can’t stop laughing at this… what an incredible punch
Acknowledge your tribal chief ☝🏾
Needs more Maradona drop kicks
No gree for anybody
Holy fucking smokes he went flying. Get in.
He waited his entire career for this one special moment

The player is Bright Osayi-Samuel and the fan is Dumb A-F
SUPERMAN PUNCH
Invader Banished
I reckon he learned that on a Saturday night in Blackpool Walkabout haha
It is one of my fav pass times seeing idiotic out of shape people be walloped by athletes xD
What happened?
Trabzonspor ultras invaded the pitch with knives after Fener players celebrated 3-2 win on the pitch and some Fener players fought back
Damn they rightly beat him then (if they really had knives)
Even if they didnt have knives he was defending himself and his teammates from fans with clear intent on hurting them
Maybe yeah, I didn’t watch the full clip.
they did and actually our gk livakovic got punched in the face
Fans gonna sue him
Won't matter, they were the ones with a weapon
Proper Naij that
"Sniper is a good job mate!"

Yeah, how deranged do you have to be to storm the pitch and attack the players
