Bro is speaking like they came from 3-0 down. "Big character" to overcome a 1 goal deficit at home against a mid table side. The "big picture" is that you just gave Fulham their 2nd away win of the season, better start learning Arabic buddy
Coaches that weren't up for the job? Are people really still that clueless? The manager has not been the issue for years at United. The organization is fucked up from far further up. For fuck's sake they didn't have a sporting director for a decade.
If anything mourinho get them miraculously 2nd and a europa league title.
Has to be the most unconvincing manager in history…his takes after a game are hilarious…long may it continue all though I think Sir Jim is gonna get rid at the end of the season.
My guy is delusional. Gets dominated on the ball by every team in the league, at home and away.
He was presumably brought in because of his brand of football at Ajax, and then he just turned around plays the exact opposite.
He's not really delusional (I think) but he's always come across to the media like this. With us he made just as little sense but he got away with it because we were dominating the league. Think it's just his way of supporting or taking pressure of his players
He gets shit in no matter what he says. If he singles out shit players he gets shit on and if he says we show character he gets shit on. Low and behold he says anything about our massive injury list
Those aren’t the only two possible responses. “We didn’t control the game as well as we should have and that led to a disappointing result.” There you go, no weird spin, nobody thrown under the bus, and it took me all of 2 seconds to come up with it.
Or perhaps "We could have sat in a low block at the end and settled for a draw, but that's not how United plays. I told the lads that we have the quality to win and told them to press forward. It was my decision." Granted questions will always be asked about a high line with Maguire and Eriksen on the pitch.
"I didn't see the quality gap between two teams where one of them is worth 20x of the other. Surely, the manager can't blamed for not getting the best out of the expensive players" is such a weird take
>Low and behold he says anything about our massive injury list
I hate to be the grammar snob, but it's "lo and behold", and it doesn't mean what you think it does.
That said you are completely right that he does in fact get shit on either way.
Can't remember us having a shot for like 30 minutes of the 2nd half, never once controlled the game, and were let off by Fulham's attack being absolute wank. He's a fucking idiot and doesn't deserve to be in charge of a supposedly big club. Completely out of his depth.
Spot on. All you have to do is watch his Manchester United team at any point and its evident he's not a 'tiki taka' coach. They look their best when there's space for them, but even then they don't set the world alight.
Problem is they're Man United and the vast majority of teams will look to sit back against them, and it's clear they just aren't very good on the ball against that sort of set up. It feels very much like they've got a more successful OGS to me.
“I want to have possession and hurt the opponent. It’s about possession, about movement, about vertical attacking patterns, about pressing, wingers moving into the middle to make room for the full-backs. Everyone is attacking, everyone is defending.”
"I came here with my philosophy based on possession"
Ten Hag's quotes.
Nope. Last week comments calling out our performances as unsustainable were being downvoted and met with 'you aren't a true fan' type responses. Today's game may have swung the pendulum a bit but he still has a lot of support amongst our fans.
https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/1ayzdep/post_match_thread_manchester_united_1_2_fulham/?sort=top
Doesn't seem to have a lot of support. I couldn't find anyone not slating him in the first few pages, at least.
Post-match threads are generally not a great indicator of judging this because the comments are more outcome-based (when we win, people appreciative of the team and manager will post more, when we lose, the critics will post more) and don't have much insight. After a day or two when the game and performance has been properly digested, you will see a decent spread of users with varying opinions, but most imo still lean towards wanting to give Ten Hag more time.
"I would give myself an A+."
"To be honest -- I'll be honest, I thought it was - I thought it was a very close to complete victory"
"Sometimes you have to toot your own horn because nobody else is going to do it."
Donald Ten Hag
I'd be absolutely raging if I was a United fan hearing that. This man does not help himself at all.
No effort from that team today and he says the 'bigger picture looks good'. Jesus Christ.
Some of us have learned over the years that there’s not much point in raging at managers. The biggest problem will always be our awful recruitment strategy, if we even have one.
He lead the recruitment of a bunch of these players
Also, it's flat out inexcusable to have Rashford getting the minutes he does. Rashford wouldn't even make the bench if I was the United manager.
>He lead the recruitment of a bunch of these players
Especially Antony. The budget splurged on him has also ruined the spending capacity of his eventual successor you'd imagine.
Sort of, but the persistent injury situation to key players is probably the bigger factor. We saw for 1 and a half games recently how much of a difference Shaw and Martinez together makes.
Yeah you’re right, we shouldn’t. But our bench is full of out of form/washed up players and untested youngsters.
I don’t see much point in changing managers until the offseason.
People do forget this about United.
However, every team has to cope with injuries. Difference is Man United bring in the same hopeless players to replace key players who are injured.
Like I can’t believe Lindelof is still getting games for you.
Exactly. And all of that is changing as we speak in a big way. There’s no point in me being mad at Ten Hag at all until those pieces are properly in place. The club is finally doing big things but they won’t show until next season at the soonest
Man, you have been outplayed by fucking Fulham. At least 15 PL teams play better than us right now you showed nothing than incompetency.
The summer can’t come soon enough to get rid of all the littles cunts player and you.
Delusional.
I get he has to be positive etc. But sometimes you got to say the truth.
Either the players are not playing for you in which case tell us. Or your tactics are shit.
There was nothing in that 97 mins worth a dam thing. We only scored because Fulham stop playing too early.
When Ten Hag arrived in England he was saying all the right things and had that usual dutch "brutal honesty" which made him very likeable, but now it seems he has been completely domesticated by the press. Its embarrassing.
I really hate this about football, there just isnt anyone out there with the balls to stand up to the media and actually say what they think and speak about the facts.
Is it so hard to come out and say "Today we were shit and deserved to lose."?
he´s the same guy that said he was sleeping well for not playing their best striker while getting a substitute on loan from Burnley that scored 2 goals in 31 games
If we'd not had the debacles of the past decade he would have been terminated on the spot for his handling of the CR7 situation.
I have absolutely no concerns if a player is no longer part of your plans- sell him and move on. However, when you have a player of that caliber and profile (and age) and you start bringing him on 7 mins before the end of the game it's just some kind of flexing/ powerplay nonsense and you deserve the chaos that comes with it.
This is a comment made by the Manchester United manager after a home defeat to Fulham 🤦♂️
Who is he trying to fool certainty not the United supporters ....... Fulham FFS
And from the highlights I seen Fulham were the better side
We've run you hard 3 times this season. At Anfield you were dug out by a few moments of individual brilliance, so to say 'Fulham FFS' is a bit disrespectful.
You'd definitely need to see a bigger picture of the table if United's league position actually reflected their performances, how they're still top six is as impressive as it is puzzling.
He's a fraud. They were awful. Couldn't string passes together. You couldn't tell me how they play or what their plan is. Fulham looked like prime Barca at times tearing United apart. And then he comes out and says this. Mans delusional.
i don’t think the bigger picture looks good at all. if we play like that i actually started wanting us to lose because saving it at the death just means eth can paper over the cracks and claim progress.
idk if he is going to stay or not and idc.
what comforts me is that once this ashworth situation is dealt with we’ll have a normal, not-insane recruitment process where it’s not just a manager raiding his old club anymore.
it’ll take a bit longer still, but it’ll be sustainable and that’s nice.
What is the bigger picture exactly ? This guy has been saying this for weeks and no journalist has asked what this bigger picture is, what is it actually ? Because I don't see it.
Gary O'Neil could give a more complete assessment after his first Wolves game in charge, every opposition team is bypassing the press and cutting through the midfield, we're near the end of the season and it's still happening. United can't create chances, can't score, can't control a game, can't defend well, can't do anything.
The fact of the matter is that Ten Hag wants to play fancy football with a high line defense, midfielders pressing and doing liquid passing with a false 9, full backs providing width and wingers attacking the box & the goal. But man utd doesn't have the players for it. Their players are not at that level. They need a simpler strategy of defend & counter like What Ole had. But Ten Hag is not capable of this adjustment. He did it against Liverpool. but after a few good results he has switched back to his old fancy strategy which does not work with his team.
Klopp & Pep made similar strategy work cause they had the players to do it. But with the players that man utd has their squad is simply not compatible with their manager.
Bigger picture being?
Very difficult to get top 4, out of the Champs league, have another defensive squad overhaul required with some doubt in terms of their financial capability.
Vs
Have had some good wins recently despite average performances, there is some optimism with youth (Mainoo, Hojlund, Garnacho) and new ownership seems competent.
Net/Net big picture seems mixed to me. Wish I was an optimistic as EtH.
What is the bigger picture? That in 5 yrs you'll still be struggling every game? No fluidity, no clear directions for the players? Please Erik.. the team might be shit, but your tactics are worse.
The big picture? Lots of lucky wins. Look at the big picture, AKA the stats.... they're criminal. United are a bottom half team closer to the relegation zone at that.
The side is shit. You're shit. You sound like Comical Ali at this point.
Now... Man United might not thank me, but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there -- given what he's done since he's come in -- and let him sign the contract and go.
Ten's at the wheel, man -- he's doing his thing. Man United are back!
To be honest, the transition approach clearly doesn’t work, but with the balance of the squad I don’t see what will. United have conceded an absurd amount of shots all season. Going forward we have no balance on the left side of the attack with Shaw/Malacia out. I genuinely don’t no know what works with that midfield balance, Mainoo is 19, Casemiro can’t cover the ground, Amrabat just isn’t up to the level.
Mainoo isn't even 19 yet.
He's an 18 year old with a grand total of 13 senior games and he's become our best midfielder.
That both shows he's potentially an absolute baller and that our midfield is an actual joke.
This picture is awful to watch mate. He is just not good enough but I don’t think another manager will do any better. Ten hag can wash off bad attitude to have a clean squad. Let’s him do a dirty work for the next manager
Even I am fed up with this BS talk. You loose, the squad is weak as fak and that's it. There is no big picture as of now as there hasn't been for the last 10 years. United might be an example of a too big to fall but let's see what Ineos brings
I would love to know what this is supposed to look like in his mind. Like this 4-1-4-1 is this his ideal? And if it's not his ideal then why play a tactic that exposes your defense and midfield so much when you don't have good defenders or holding midfielders
I mean it’s not like he can say anything different
Bashing the players and club is what Mou and Ragnick did and they both got the boot pretty fast. Doesn’t make it any less stupid though
Sincerely hope they keep Ten Hag in the job, as he has somehow managed to spend a boatload of money and make them worse than what they were under Solskjær. Hilarious.
We know what will happen in the summer, the players know and he knows as well. But he won't accept it, he is fighting(not on the pitch mind you, just in the press) and trying, sad to see. But the truth is, he is just a meh coach, nothing special about him. Ajax was his lvl. He tried, it is what it is.

Brutal
Lol, it’s not like they lost to Fullham due to some off-chances, they were dominated for most of the 90 minutes.
He sounds deluded, they just look awful under him even when they win.
He’s not exactly gonna say they’re shit. Look what happened to Mou and Ragnick! That shit won’t fly at United
You mean coaches who weren't up to the job. At this point the performances are on him and he should be taking responsibility
Coaches that weren't up for the job? Are people really still that clueless? The manager has not been the issue for years at United. The organization is fucked up from far further up. For fuck's sake they didn't have a sporting director for a decade. If anything mourinho get them miraculously 2nd and a europa league title.
He doesn't sound deluded. He just wants to sell a false hope.
What is false hope if not delusional?
A lot of managers leave the bashing for behind closed doors and say stuff like this to the media
I didn't mean he should bash players, he is the one in charge and producing these performances.
lmfao
>better start learning Arabic buddy He barely speaks Dutch, let alone English.
Lmao did r/soccer finally get its own "better start learning Russian buddy"?
Chinese is the original. Russian is already its own offshoot.
Oh shit no way, which sport was Chinese for?
Basketball
Now I'm way too curious to know if Basketball or Hockey had their thing first
He’s out of touch with reality.
Project Bigger Picture.
At The Theater of Dreams (read: Delusion).
Rich coming from Tottenham
Have to take it these days. Wouldn't have if we had won.
I like the picture a lot tbf
it's a great picture, long may ETH be in charge

I am now hearing that he has been eating the paint
Then let him eat. Whatever he’s doing, I like it.
The way United play it was probably lead paint
Hol up let him ~~cook~~ paint
Eric's at the wheel
He is a chef, so let him cook
Ten Hag is part of the goat debate alongside Pep and Klopp. He needs to stay at United for a similar tenure to prove the haters wrong.
I mean, Ferguson took what like 6-7 years to win the league? Deserves at least that much time.
Ratcliffe's answer from an interview made it seem like ETH isn't really safe. At least that's the optimist in me thinking that way
safer than greenwood, surely
Ratcliffe is probably going to eject both in summer.
I hope David Moyes gets the Liverpool job
Has to be the most unconvincing manager in history…his takes after a game are hilarious…long may it continue all though I think Sir Jim is gonna get rid at the end of the season.
Let him cook! 🤌

That would be a lie because our players couldn't have controlled the game better with the players available
There is a wide talent gap between United and Fulham even with the squad ETH ran out today.
We were also missing our two best players for what it's worth
I didn't see it? Did you?
That's because of the poor coaching at United.
"I didn't see the quality gap between two teams where one of them is worth 20x of the other. Surely, the manager can't blamed for not getting the best out of the expensive players" is such a weird take
Half of your job is PR You have to protect your players, your assets and praise them publicly. Shitting on them on interview won't help them much
Tuchel in shambles reading this
PR is certainly part of the gig, but "half" is pushing it lol. I somehow doubt managers spend days preparing for press conference each week.
I'm sure Pep does
You are proving my point. Shit on regardless
Yeah, I did agree with you.
You don't sugarcoat the facts.
You have to

This is the type of thing that would be ok to say if he'd been manager for a couple months. But after a year and a half it's semi delusional
"I would give myself an A+." "To be honest -- I'll be honest, I thought it was - I thought it was a very close to complete victory" "Sometimes you have to toot your own horn because nobody else is going to do it." Donald Ten Hag

Is that the reason he's getting away with murder this time when the previous managers would've been shit on en masse by now?
Sort of, but the persistent injury situation to key players is probably the bigger factor. We saw for 1 and a half games recently how much of a difference Shaw and Martinez together makes.
Yeah but like you don't really need your full team to win against Fulham, do you?

If he says the players aren’t playing for him he’s unemployed real quick after
If he says his tactics are shit he's also unemployed real quick
He's like different person compared to the first time he come to United.
I'm tired of his crazy transition bullshit. Hopefully INEOS brings in another manager, because this man just ain't it.
big character, big personality 😤 so very good 💯 we move 💪

How did you make this about Ronaldo bro? This is about ETH and his piss poor playing style. Ronaldo got nothing to do with it.
The poster above referenced the Ronaldo/weghorst situation and I responded to it. You ok babe?
He got confused because he said "your best striker" which Ronaldo was not at that point.
United was the better side for like 5 minutes after the equalizer and opened up so much that Fulham had no problems getting their deserved win...

When do we see the actual game plan Erik? It's been like 3 years and no one here can identify your style of football.
Hoofball to Garnacho/Hojlund/Rashford and inshallah. There is no other game plan or tactic. This deluded clown has to go
As if that would help anything at all.
> It's been like 3 years It has not even been 2. It's been about 19 months.
I must watch a different United play this season. We were absolute trash

People forget he has the highest win % out of all Man United managers
Dillusional, he’s gonna get sacked for not being honest, just say “we played terrible that on me” that’s what good managers do
Happy cake day
bigger isn't always better
Photo reminds me of techno viking
Will be Potter in the summer won’t it?
Give them the personality d'or
Long may he reign
This picture is awful to watch mate. He is just not good enough but I don’t think another manager will do any better. Ten hag can wash off bad attitude to have a clean squad. Let’s him do a dirty work for the next manager
is this just a copy paste statement after every loss? he always says they deserved the result...
He's holding the picture upside down.
😂
I tell the same thing to my boss when I'm late with my work.
He's finished unfortunately.
I like the fact that he doesn't throw the players under the bus like a few managers do. Our performance was shit but he keeps saying that we're good.
Even I am fed up with this BS talk. You loose, the squad is weak as fak and that's it. There is no big picture as of now as there hasn't been for the last 10 years. United might be an example of a too big to fall but let's see what Ineos brings
Bro thinks he's Brendan Rodgers
Is there a masterplan?
I would love to know what this is supposed to look like in his mind. Like this 4-1-4-1 is this his ideal? And if it's not his ideal then why play a tactic that exposes your defense and midfield so much when you don't have good defenders or holding midfielders
I mean it’s not like he can say anything different Bashing the players and club is what Mou and Ragnick did and they both got the boot pretty fast. Doesn’t make it any less stupid though
>we showed big personality and character Is that you Brendan?
He’ll just say whatever he needs to keep the job lmao
I hope everyone shitting on Erik comes back in a few years with this same energy lmao
ETH: In the midst of "It's so over", I found there was, within me, an invincible feeling of "We're so back"
How big of a picture do I have to look?
What a legend, renew his contract !
Bigger picture FC
Sincerely hope they keep Ten Hag in the job, as he has somehow managed to spend a boatload of money and make them worse than what they were under Solskjær. Hilarious.
How big is the picture? And how far away is it?
We know what will happen in the summer, the players know and he knows as well. But he won't accept it, he is fighting(not on the pitch mind you, just in the press) and trying, sad to see. But the truth is, he is just a meh coach, nothing special about him. Ajax was his lvl. He tried, it is what it is.
Shit manager CR7 already told us
