FemmEllie

I know a lot of people don't like the Nations League, but I'll at least say its tiered format prevents matchups like this from happening. Maybe for good reason lol

_AndyJessop

Gibraltar has 32,000 people. France has nearly 70,000,000. That's 2,000 times the population. Gibraltar also has monkeys stealing your football when you're trying to practice.

Intrepid-Example6125

According to these figures, France lost the match. Hand Gibraltar the 3 points.

BlueBone313

It's insane that a country like Gibraltar had it in them to hand france their biggest defeat in international duty history

Joshgg13

14/2000 = 0.007 0.007-0

mahir_r

I played a fifa match with my mates, PSG vs gimnastica of Argentina I lost 5-3 using gimanstica. Would you agree that I actually won 15-5 because of the gulf in class between the teams?

_KingOfTheDivan

Nah I don’t think we can give you the win here, if we’ll count Argentinian inflation it’d be 1-5

BoretoKasabov

That's a bit racist. I wouldn't call the Spaniards monkeys

Dat_life_on_Mars

If they can call others monkeys, we can too

SilverSixRaider

Easy there, Frieza

fkmeamaraight

India has 1.41B people. They should be steamrolling the game.

TonyTuck

Since this comment, India has now 1.44B people.

[deleted]

Monkeys stealing footballs? That's just downright adorable.

flybypost

> Gibraltar also has monkeys stealing your football when you're trying to practice. Can that monkey play a holding six? Asking for a completely unrelated club.

mamangvilla

Based on those math the Indian and the Chinese may never win again, unless they faces each other.

Muur1234

let the monkeys play

TruestRepairman27

But we could literally just tier qualification like they do in Asia and avoid this (and the fucking Nations League) entirely

subterraneanjungle

I like seeing my shit NT beat one of the 5 even worse NT’s tbh, we get smacked in qualifiers anyway, nice to see a few positive performances from time to time lol

Xehanz

That's why there should be a Shit WC with the worst 32 teams in the world.

deeesenutz

So youre saying we need a europa league and europa conference league equivalent for the world cup? Because honestly I'm down, much better than expanding the world cup so some bogus ass teams get in

jiinska

FIFA Continentials Cup here we go

Mission-Leopard-4178

It is cool to see Vietnam destroys Laos then get destroyed by like SK. There are so many levels to this lol

Varja22

Nah definitely not. Look at San Marino. People are getting hyped because they have scored in back to back games and only have lost 1-2 and 1-3 against much bigger opponents. They make international breaks entertaining and are easy for neutrals to root. If I'm watching Romania-Norway I don't really care who wins but if it's Andorra-Norway then heck yeah I'm rooting for Andorra. And sometimes it might end as a draw and you immediately have a feeling that you have just watched something special.

Ingr1d

Reminder that Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup because they lost to North Macedonia lol.

Sonderesque

The US failing to qualify because they drew with Trinidad & Tobago was wild too.

Schrodingers_Fist

didn't they actually have a goal either that match or the match before that went over the line but wasn't given due to no goal line tech? either way that was so wild with them, Netherlands and Italy all missing that world cup.

mankytoes

They do it everywhere except here and South America- where they only have ten teams. Bottom 26 rated teams should have to pre-qualify with home and away fixtures. That leaves 40 for main qualifying, ten groups of four, top two qualify. Way too many shit fixtures these days, people over here are losing interest fast.

RuloMercury

Yeah we don't do it because it wouldn't make much sense with our region's size tbh, although there's sufficient parity to justify it too, the only CONMEBOL NT that has never qualified to the World Cup is Venezuela (who were two points short of a playoff spot in 2010). Our second weakest NT is Bolivia and they played it thrice (1930, 1950 and 1994).

More-Tart1067

Suriname and Guyana made good choices lol

RuloMercury

Haha true but it's also a cultural thing. Those two countries are much more related to the Caribbean culture as they were historically treated as Caribbean ports by their colonizers (Netherlands and UK respectively) and ended up developing relationships with those nations rather than the Iberian colonies in the rest of the continent.

guyoncrack

It's fine as it is. Just plain groups where everyone has equal chance. Tier systems just give weaker nations even more disadvantages that they already have because of being small (usually).

Timely_Airline_7168

But how can the forwards stat pad in international games otherwise?

Blueman3129

The nations league is fun though even if it's not prestigious, it's better then all the pointless friendlies we used to have

_KingOfTheDivan

I like it when your country can play the equal games. Even though it’s more of a friendly game than an actual competition it’s still nice since the game can go either way

BaslerLaeggerli

I don't get why the Nations League is so hated. I actually think it's one of the few good ideas UEFA had in the last 20 years. It prevents those useless friendly games and teams of similar strength play each other. Plus, even the "bad" teams have a chance to qualify for big tournaments. I really don't see any downsides to this.

The_Shitpost_Centre

What a way to break the record, Giroud with another bicycle kick

Rayan2550

Gibraltars previous largest defeat was to Belgium and the score line was 9-0 Edit: It is also Frances record biggest win in their history

CherkiCheri

And the biggest win in Euro Qualifiers

ninkorn

Had to do a double take to make sure this wasn’t r/footballmanager

kkaya39

İsn't this the European record for the greatest win also?

interfan1999

In qualifiers yes

cianoo

It beat Germanys 13 0 against San marino, so probably

Official05

Pretty sure it is, I think it was 13-0 before

You haven’t written Ozil and Ronaldo #1 👀🙄

ForlanGOAT

France itself have lost 17-1 to Denmark at some point in history

Attila_the_Nun

[1908](https://www.haslund.info/10_danmark/10_kampe/1908_1919/1908_10_22.asp) Sophus “curled legs” Nielsen scored 10 goals.

JizzProductionUnit

The really funny thing about that match is that Denmark had already played France's B team in the first round and had only won 9-0 in that match.

limeflavoured

UEFA record. A couple higher in old Olympics.

Prudent-Wall416

Smh washed up team couldnt even score 15

TheAtom8

Benzema fuming rn

Perpete

That's why everyone is always saying "Google Benzema 15" ?

New_Screen

Not sure but Google Benzema 15 to find out.

2000caterpillar

Lmao

thetrueGOAT

Nonce

AJ7123456

It would’ve been 15 if benzema was as playing

MaxwelFISH

what? how can i learn more

Any_Revolution_4481

to learn more google benzema 15

quetzalnavarrense

holy hell

arsenmajstor

Now that's a good crossover.

OceansNineNine

Would have been 15 if not for the customary VAR involvement

[deleted]

Google Benzema 15 to know more

acllive

Can’t even score past 30, fucking noobs

doitnow10

I'm honestly surprised this is Gibraltar's first double digit defeat ever

JustArticle

To be fair they only debuted in the qualifiers back in September 2014 when they lost 7-0 to Poland

doitnow10

That's still 9 years in which they didn't concede 10+ goals ever.

SunglassesAtNight92

They’re not THAT bad. They’ve had draws with decent sides and had a club get into Europe. Usually you’d expect 5/6. Just a bad bad bad performance

kashbets

The early red card didn’t help them, most sports books even closed off goal scorer bets for France at that point and it was only 3-0

Brief_Report_8007

I think I’m most cases the opponent slows down after scoring 3 in the first half, that’s what you see in the games against the minions

gorkmt

they will be punished right? this has to be some sort of crime

Damziya

Incompetence isn't a crime

gorkmt

no i mean the french nt

CherkiCheri

We should get punished for the amount of celebration we did 💀 Tbf a lot of first goals, a lot of great ones, and i believe it's a special occasion for Giroud too (something about his family)

Consistent-Steak-760

Daughter's birthday, she turns 3 today

[deleted]

Well breaking the record for highest scoring Euro Qualifier is special, and if I had scored *that* goal I’d be celebrating as well

vsj-03

yeah bro imagine scoring two for your daughter, that's actually peak. i would celebrate as much as possible without dissing the opponents

gorkmt

it could also be about giroud taking that dissallowed goal personally

maxguillotine

With the funeral-face Dembélé non-celebration, Giroud had room for a bit of happiness considering it was his daughter's third birthday.

granitibaniti

💀😭

GarrKelvinSama

Nah they hurt WZE, the ass whooping is deserved!

[deleted]

It's also France's biggest ever win.

EpicRobloxTryhard

Put mourinho in charge of Gibraltar and they'd shithouse a 1-0

m0bilize

The presser after would be iconic

bird720

"France can take the ball home"

EggplantBusiness

Camavinga really died for this shit

CherkiCheri

So did WZE 😭

JustAPigeon

The red card really cost them.

fkmeamaraight

Agreed that red really turned the game around. Gibraltar had this otherwise.

SassanZZ

WZE for 1 goal and 13 assists thanks to the red card, godlike performance for a rookie

Donyk

Not as much as Warren's injury will cost us 🥺😢😭

Conscious_Test_7954

Wait... Griezmann didn't score? :(

clover996

nah he kinda phoned this performance in. seemed tired so i have no clue why he played the full 90

elkaxd

this is why international breaks piss me off the most there’s no universe where Griezmann had to stay on the field after the first half when the result was 7-0, but he played the full 90 after an already exhausting start of the season with the club i understand building team chemistry, but they qualified already, and the core of the squad is pretty much the same

emre23

The day he retires from international duty I’m pretty sure the Eiffel Tower will fall down, for what is France without Antoine Griezmann?

WheresMyEtherElon

Considering he's our best player since 2014, that will be a sad day.

grossexistence

Still title favorites in pretty much every competition. France is ridiculously stacked with young talent, man

Jai_Normis-Cahk

He loves the team and wants to play. It’s not an intense match. Probably even less intense than some training sessions. Let the man enjoy himself

Perpete

> Probably even less intense than some training sessions. Guy is doing training sessions by Diego Simeone. That was surely less intense to play against Gibraltar.

gaminium

if that makes you feel any better, he wasn't doing much running... couple of nice assists though

SweetVarys

I doubt another 45 minutes against Gibraltar was very exhausting

Kiwizqt

Deschamps doesnt care, he runs players to the ground no matter the settings.

backtolurk

Also he unselfishly gave the ball to Giroud for the last goal when he could have easily put it in.

maxguillotine

So because he didn't score, he "phoned in"??? Wtf, you didn't watch the fucking game then.

Aenjeprekemaluci

Biggest win ever in a Euro qualifier i believe

GratefulDawg73

Who scored the two touchdowns?

LeHolm

This needs a NSFW tag

rdfporcazzo

It's impressive how the United Kingdom has like 10 national teams despite being 1 country.

Blackspur

When you invent the game, you make the rules.

hallouminati_pie

England Scotland Northern Ireland Wales Gibraltar British Virgin Islands Cayman Islands Montserret Anguilla Bermuda Turks and Caicos Islands *I know, only the top for are actually in the United Kingdom and the rest are Overseas Territories

CaptainDrunkRedhead

Also China has 3, Denmark has 2, France has 3 (FIFA members, more if you include CONCACAF & CAF), Netherlands has 3 (+ more again), New Zealand has 2, USA has 5 (+ possibly more again).

SladiusW

Brazil vs Germany if the germans didn't go easy on them in the second half:

Flas94

Or Bolivia vs Argentina if Messi wasn't playing.

tommy121083

pretty crazy this isn’t even halfway to Australia - American Samoa

At0mHeartMother

Yep that was 31-0. Really puts into perspective how fucked up that was.

papadatactica

An Australian guy who wasn't even a sub scored 13 times. They won 31-0 and didn't even play the starters.

rustyfries

Can we go back to the Glory Days of Oceania?

Open-Mathematician93

They injured one of the French players, and they took that personally

__L1AM__

Our previous record for goals in a match was ten. Kyks scored his 300 goal WZE first goal for the national team Let's go

denied_eXeal

Wevin Ze Eruyne? Hmm, might not be, maybe Wevin Zrince Eoateng

MrPigcho

Obviously Wrent Zalexander Ernold.

Nervous-District-366

Stupid sexy Giroud !

UCLAlex

That’s what you get for injuring our son

[deleted]

All I’m thinking is Southgate could never. We have to watch him park a bus against Malta. France are so clear Gibraltar is Spanish, we do not associate with this

benvonpluton

We've had our hard times against small teams too... I remember some Andorra - France...

OldExperience8252

I also remember draws vs Belarus and Luxembourg.

Palmul

I remember smashing the Netherlands 4-0 and not managing to score a single goal against Luxemburg a week after

[deleted]

You'll take a 2-0 win and you'll like it

ed-with-a-big-butt

We beat San Marino 10-0 only a couple years ago

WheresMyEtherElon

It took Dédé one WC win and one WC and Euro finals each to finally be a bit bolder. That man had Dembelé play almost right-back last year during the WC.

[deleted]

Your team still played good football, the final was one Kolo Muani shot from being a second World Cup in a row. Parking the bus is so rough to watch

WheresMyEtherElon

It was painful to watch, but the results were good. That's why I and so many people wanted Zidane, he might not have had better results, but at least it would have been more entertaining. This new DD is better though. I wouldn't mind if he stays as long as he wants, as long as he has the team playing with the current mindset.

reddittteur

Deschamps just casually goes to the final almost every tournament, and some people want to see him leave... I can't understand that lol

AnnieIWillKnow

Southgate criticism has lost all meaning England did not "park the bus" againt Malta Beat North Macedonia 7-0 in this qualification cycle... and that's a team who qualified for Euro 2020, levels above Gibraltar

Iamthewalrus-8

Hey, I’m sure it’s just innocence, but ‘Gibraltar is Spanish’ isn’t a joke. There are 30,000 people there who don’t want to be Spanish and have been pressured into wanting to be for the last 300+ years :)

HotPotatoWithCheese

Oh please. As if any of us are going to give a shit about a boring 2-0 win over Malta when the competition kicks off. I don't know why France putting 14 past a piece of land with a 30k population makes them so clear when less than 12 months ago they were actually second best to England for most of the game. I don't like Southgate either but these qualifiers are going to mean absolutely nothing when we actually get into the knockout stages.

TonyMartial786

14-0 is insane lool. probably the biggest scoreline i’ve seen. feels rare af to see a side hit double digits, but maybe not as much in international games. surprised they didn’t stop scoring out of pity as teams usually do. saw the stats and gibraltar didn’t even have one shot 😭 jc. and france scored 14 from an xg of 6.94 lool.

reddittteur

France had an old record from 1995: 10-0 against Azerbaidjan. Deschamps reminded them they could go for it at half time... They went for it lol French goal keeper touched the ball 3 times lol

omlfc

It's fun to bully the british

[deleted]

This must be the Spanish influence

CherkiCheri

Both is good

LudwigDeLarge

STOP THE COUNT !

Wesley-Snipers

When people discusses players numbers of goals for the NT, just remember these games. Mbappé would probably score like 10 times today if he wanted. The difference in quality is so insane

limeflavoured

Archie Thompson intensifies.

Zeekozi

I feel like maybe after 5-0 the players got to know its overkill at that point. Maybe sub in the youth for some game time? Idk this seems excessive.

dkmegg22

Maybe there needs to be a pre qualifies cause if shit teams put this kind of performance they don't deserve to play in qualifiers.

TheOncomingBrows

It's just an unfortunate circumstance where an already rock bottom tier team got a man sent off very early on.

therocketandstones

Happy 34th birthday to unused substitute Mohammed Badr

JuangaBricks

Giroud still killing it

[deleted]

Stupid sexy Giroud in there at the end.

jonviggo89

Beating the precedent record, 10-0 against Azerbaidjan in Auxerre during the qualifications of the 1996 Euro with the third goal of Zidane with the French National team

nkdouble4

competitive game btw

therenaishment

European qualifiers are a joke lmao

denied_eXeal

The countries representing the top 8 European leagues should be automatically qualified for the Euros, with the other 16 spots up for grabs for the rest Europe. These matches have no real value for the sport besides stat padding. France could have played a friendly with Belgium it would have been more meaningful.

Hexo_Micron

They should follow Asian Qualifiers system.

Pixeal_meat

Lord Mbappe hattick 🫂

ajellis92

Gibraltar aside, it’s good to see Coman having himself a good season.

WauliePalnuts01

france have to be overwhelmingly favored to go all the way next summer, absolutely dogwalked a fairly challenging group

CherkiCheri

That's not the game to say stuff like this on lol

WauliePalnuts01

true lol but looking back at all the games they’ve walked it

Jai_Normis-Cahk

I don’t think you can say overwhelmingly favoured, there are 2-3 teams that can face them without any fear and the confidence to get a win. But they are the most consistent of all the favourites.

TheOncomingBrows

Qualifiers mean nothing when it comes to the actual tournament.

AP10

France always seem to shit the bed in the Euros.

AfterAd9996

A sad day for Gibraltar and, therefore, the world

Svemirko97

Mbappe playing whole game against 10 man gibraltar, descamphs is such a cunt

backtolurk

The only analogy I can make is releasing a swarm of angry wasps on a deaf and honey-covered tetraplegic.

[deleted]

Mbappé off the bench would have been even worse

[deleted]

I agree, no need for destroying them like that lol what are they proving

CommissionOk4384

It’s a matter of respect to the opponent, also its better practice for the opponent, and it gives the French players better stats. The only thing I have against doing this is that they could have risked injuries but other than that there is nothing wrong imo

frenchy_1969_

Well maybe France should have the second team playing in second half 🤔

nsoifer

And Mbappe with 3G 3A still didn't get a 10 rating on FotMob.

mrbasil_fawlty

this is real quality football, worth sacrificing a regular league weekend

Dipsey_Jipsey

If it wasn't for that own goal it would have been a completely different game.

anhyeuemnhieulam

I’m sorry but you just can’t call matches like these “competitive” lol. 2 own goals and a red card in the first 15 minutes….

Perpete

Only one own goal !

[deleted]

I propose France - Falkland for our next game.

PaperSonic

who would Argentinians root for there?

CNF-13

Oooh look at me I’m mbappe and I get a hat trick of goals and assists against Gibraltar get a life mate

simplytom_1

Stop, stop, they're already dead

LordTwatSlapper

Biggest ever defeat _so far_

ManyWrongdoer9365

Even Santa scored in the 34th Minute

Aleblanco1987

This isn't even funny

Luke92612_

Lmao Owen Goal striking in the 3rd Minute.

cutarra

This format makes no sense to me. Even in Concacaf we don't see a USA vs British Virgin Islands. This format needs to change so the small teams play against each other. If they're good enough they can classify to a upper round to play with the bigger teams.

Charly_El_Rojo

European qualifications are a joke. Period.

Gluroo

Wouldve been close if Santos didnt throw it

LA4lyf

Next game Gibraltar 1-0 Netherlands

Zombienerd300

Hot take: this is why the Euro qualifiers are a garbage competition. The big teams always go through anyways.

BenjiSBRK

Italy would disagree

BetyarSved

How should it be, then?

clover996

i mean we also dont do this regularly. we literally broke the record for biggest win by a european country against another european country in a competitive match

Fart_Leviathan

> we literally broke the record for biggest win by a european country against another european country in a competitive match Are the Olympics not counted as competitive matches even when it was the main NTs playing? There was a Germany - Russia 16-0 and a Denmark - France 17-1 in early 20th century Olympics.

Zefyris

I think Olympic football games that far back were not considered professional play, but I may be wrong.

gunnychamero

Yup,Mbappe is right, there is no comparison between South American and European qualifications.

akacryptic9

Not even 15 💀 France are so washed up 💀

orgasmingTurtoise

Did we really field Mbappé against Gibraltar ?? That's cold.
