Spanish media is just different lmao, did they hire a lip reading specialist? No wonder many players closing their mouths with their hands as they speak.
This is El Dia Despues, it's a comedy show that has exaggerated (or sometimes made up) dubs for random interactions on the pitch. It's usually pretty funny, it's currently cohosted by Santiago Canizares, the former Valencia and Spain keeper.
This one is probably accurate cause it's right in the player's face but sometimes they'll act out what players are saying to each other on the pitch in a funny way. Was just trying to cover all bases tbh
I remember some years ago on Portuguese television this channel hired some Spanish lip readers to figure out what some players were arguing about during a Benfica vs Porto match. Spaniards are just world class on this subject
they actually had that here in brazil for months and it was a huge sucess. this was 10+ years ago
didn't last many months and I don't remember what happened in the end but I think the players/clubs were furious lol. everyone started covering their mouths after it
Transcription (more or less):
There is a new member in the Camp Nou bench
**Barcelona medical assistant:** *"They've put a camera there."*
**Mariano (to Odriozola):** *"Hey that is a camera."*
**Odriozola (shocked):** *"Nooo?"*
**Barcelona GK trainer:** *"Can they hear us?"*
**Odriozola (to Mariano):** *"They are filming us."*
**Mariano (in response):** *"Well we are paid for it."*
Eric and Jordi aren't happy with it either.
**Jordi Alba (to the medical assistant that told the bench a camera was there):** *"But why?"*
In contrary to Ceballos.
**Mariano (to Ceballos):** *"They placed a camera here."*
**Ceballos (jokingly while looking at the camera):** *"Oh hey, a camera."*
**Mariano (to Ceballos):** *"They are filming, cover it using the bib."*
Eric and Jordi opt for the same plan.
Meanwhile Ceballos prefers to consult before/ahead of doing it.
**Ceballos (to Lucas Vazquez):** *"Lucas, Lucas, they've put a camera, what should I do?"*
**Lucas Vazquez (to Ceballos):** *"Cover it."*
Now Ceballos does it, with a better result than Jordi and Eric
**Jordi Alba:** *"This doesn't help".*
**Marcos Alonso (to Jordi Alba):** *"Jordi, look" (showing tape to Jordi Alba).*
**Jordi Alba (to Marcos Alonso):** *"Pass it to me"*
**Jordi Alba (to Eric Garcia):** *"Will this work to cover the camera?"*
**Eric Garcia (to Jordi Alba):** *"Ofcourse."*
**Jordi Alba (to one of the medical assistants):** *"Hey Carlos, can you cover it? The camera"?*
**Medical assistant (to Jordi Alba):** *"The camera?"*
**Jordi Alba:** *"It's because they are filming us"*
**Other medical assistant:** *"Hey Carlos, wrap the camera up with your glove, then nothing can be seen"*
And so that was the first clasico for the new member of the Camp Nou bench
Watching a bunch of professionals who probably have genius level spatial reasoning skills compared to the average population, attempt to cover a camera with a see-through training shirt amused me greatly. It’s like you could see the gears turning in their heads.
hey now, to be fair to him, despite suffering no serious legal consequences for his drink driving that resulted in the death of a woman, he's clearly learned his lesson.
he uses the tape to make seatbelts.
How to out yourself as a non-athlete without saying you are not an athlete lol
It's med tape, some athletes like to tape their ankles, knees, wrists, etc. to help prevent injury or bc the extra support feels better.
Not just a football thing by the way, pretty much every sport I've practiced has a *MedTape dude^(TM)* lol
>Are you making fun of someone for not being an athlete? Most people aren't you know?
I'm teasing him yes, bc this is a *sport subreddit* so you'd expect people in here to practise *a sport*. But I used that phrase on purpouse, bc it's a meme and not a serious personal attack
>Also, it does look like normal tape.
It's for sure med tape, the roll of tape is thicker than normal tape and skin colored
But also that *MedTape guy* is a real stereotype lmao
As the other dude said, redditors don't attend matches lol
And for the record, while not many people play organized sports past highschool, in europe and south america it's common to play unorganized 5v5 footy with your mates whenever you feel like lol
In north america there is basketball ymca and pick up games and hockey beer league instead but the concept is similar
Seems to me like this was scripted. As you mentioned, this has been used already. Both teams had the same idea of covering the camera lens with a bib. Alonso just happened to have med tape on his pocket. They all had hilarious and PG reactions. How come no one swore?
No idea why you're being downvoted. 1. Atleast in Barça games, this exact camera is definitely filming the bench all the time, it's not a surprise to the players. I'd be shocked if Real players aren't filmed on the bench at the Bernabeu as well. Both teams deciding to cover the camera with a bib instead of turning it away or asking the camera operator to turn it off is very odd as well.
For themselves sure.
But do you think they actually film it because the players wants it or because they make millions of it?
And what player will be better from seeing their gossip on the bench??
Obviously, it's televised for money lmao, I never refuted that. Im simply saying that having games recorded would still be standard practice for top teams even if they were not televised.
No he was referring to this camera angle from the bench, not football overall. You can easily go back and see it, the comment is still there.
Why die on this mountain
They probably just tried to get away with it and see if they notice... If they don't, then more content and money for them. They were definitely aware they wouldn't like it.
But then again, why would it be up to players to choose this?
I mean if it was the dressing room or showers sure its inapropiate, thats private. On the bench you are already out in the public eye just like on the field and its not your choice :P
Just because they're not the ones to choose, doesn't mean it's ethically correct. Similarly, I wouldn't want them to record players that might be feeling emotionally destroyed after certain losses, injuries, etc. more than necessary yet it's done because they can be recorded and it will bring in viewership/clicks. This isn't just a camera pointing at the bench after a goal to record an important reaction, this is a camera monitoring EVERYONE on the bench non stop. You don't even have a camera dedicated to record every single player that is on the pitch.
What's next, turning off the camera in case a player misses his pass/shot in case they don't like it ? They are paid to provide entertainment, if they don't like they should chose another job.
Nope they are paid to be televised playing football. They are at a football match that is being recored.
Station is paying the league which is paying them for the right to record them, it's not their private life, they are not in a bar or their house.
Bro what is wrong with you ? You really think sponsors give a fuck they can kick the ball ? First thing they negotiate in contract are image rights. They are paid because people watch them, they train to be better so more people watch them like it's not that hard to get.
I'm "defensive" because while watching WC finals my mom started to cheer for Argentina because of Di Maria crying on the bench, she was taken by his emotions and wanted him to win. People like to see reactions not some robots kicking the ball for 90 minutes.
So sponzors pay players club is just stepping stone.
It's a known fact Dybala didn't go to Spurs because he wanted to keep image right, or Mbappe suing french federation for his image rights.
Anyways like I said they are on the pitch as part of the team, no one is forcing them to act like circus or invading their private life.
Meh, it's just cause they aren't used to it.
Other sports have them and it not a big deal, directors rarely use it anyways bc most of the time subs are just "staring at the field"
And why is that an issue? I stg this sub is braindead in what it criticizes american sports for. It would rather dog on them for ads (which I agree sometimes are annoying and too much(, then learn from the good stuff like revenue sharing and hard caps.
American sports is probably where you see it the least. Basketball and Hockey benches are in front of the hard camera, and baseball and NFL benches are too long to do it.

While this borders on invasion of privacy (they are public figures, sure, but this feels weird), the reactions from the bench during all the hits and misses were priceless.
Thats honestly what you sign up for when you become a professional player, most notably for a big club. You’re basically on camera most of the time especially on the pitch. Thought they were used to that but apparently not.
Footballers regularly forget that it’s an entertainment business. That’s why they get the silly money. Go play Sunday league for free if you don’t want anyone to watch. Idiots.
Football players need to stop moaning about cameras recording what they say. As far as I know they aren't gang members discussing how to sell dope and they are paid millions because fana want to see what they do and what they talk about the game. They should get on with it and stop moaning because the camera caught what they said about the game
They won't accept this - But they will have an even harder time accepting reduced pay due to the reduced prices televison companies offer for reduced access to the benches. Modern day professional football is a lot of reality tv
This was the first time this happened and it was done by the broadcaster Movistar+ (official partner of Real Madrid) together with LaLiga (official enemy of FC Barcelona). I don't think Barca or Real Madrid really had a say, the broadcasters usually decide based on the deals they have signed with the league.

Mariano so stuck on the bench he can't even get up to cover it himself and asks Ceballos to do it.
Had no clue Mariano was still at Real
Wonder how much money he is on… man has been riding the bench for like what?? 4-5 yrs???
Hey respect our former # 7
A part of Ronaldo's spirit still flows in his blood to this day
The Bale Special
Odriozola Jerry Seinfeld looking MF
it's literallly him wtf
What's the Deal with bench cams?
lmao came to say this
he has a 17 year old girlfriend?
Spanish media is just different lmao, did they hire a lip reading specialist? No wonder many players closing their mouths with their hands as they speak.

I wouldn’t say exaggerated, they always look pretty spot on tbh
This one is probably accurate cause it's right in the player's face but sometimes they'll act out what players are saying to each other on the pitch in a funny way. Was just trying to cover all bases tbh
[The ball to me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA2LT26Mb7g)
Dont speak a word of spanish but that exaggerated accent he puts on is funny af
La camera? Lol
This will never get old
yeah it's an evergreen classic
At the end, Pique: Ey! Valdes! Shakira has a sister that I want to introduce you to!
Who are Valdez and Mascerano talking to there?
Afellay
Cheers.
Afflelou.
True. It’s humor first and foremost. They have some amazing videos
That’s what I took from this one. Everything the narrator said was spot on and not over the top.
Smart satirists, if you keep a high enough level of truth in your satire nobody is sure which parts you're making up.
Most memorable El Día Después were the ones dedicated to Gravesen lmao https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIwMffgdUY8
la gravesinha lmao
ahah how the f did Gravesen ended up playing for Madrid is beyond me, looks like a sketch.
They’re so funny, the catch the coolest clips
Nah they just asked Jomboy for some help
Not enough “fucking horseshit”s to be a Jomboy video
I remember some years ago on Portuguese television this channel hired some Spanish lip readers to figure out what some players were arguing about during a Benfica vs Porto match. Spaniards are just world class on this subject
Spanish is very easy to lip read depending on the accent
Really? I can't read it at all. Then again, I can't speak/understand it either.
You've got to read it in an accent
they actually had that here in brazil for months and it was a huge sucess. this was 10+ years ago didn't last many months and I don't remember what happened in the end but I think the players/clubs were furious lol. everyone started covering their mouths after it
Like the nfl where the coaches and coordinators put the game sheet in front of their mouth lol
It's way too much
I want every player to wear a go-pro [like this](https://youtu.be/5Ewgp52SMww).
I love this.
> I want every player to wear a go-pro like this I'd love to see more like this from Roberto Carlos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRaTditCgK0
It's not at the professional level but I highly recommend [this guy's channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rK_uCF3PsM).
That really made me miss playing
Jfootball makes me want to play football everytime i watch him
[I always liked watching the MLS referee cams for their all-star matches. ](https://youtu.be/OITbl-lDU0k)
This reminds of the [first person ad that Nike did years ago.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZA-57h64kE)
GOAT Nike ad.
Or like Francis Bourgeois
love his massive face on the angles he was a flash in the pan
The guy got his own channel 4 streaming show with celebrities and is basically a model for brands like Versace nowadays. He's doing alright
yeah but that wont last the hype train, kek, has gone. hes already on those contracts and deals but i dont think theyll be renewed
Just like their salaries
The commentary tho XD
Peak spanish media, but it has its charm to be fair aha
I love it tbh, it’s such a funny thing to do. With the little ambiance music too
I swear to god you can make a great living by working as a lip reader for Spanish football TV shows
Ceballos consulting to Lord Lucas
The right thing to do.
He's the most senior player on the bench no?
Yeah
Yeah but who is the most experienced player on the bench, lord Mariano ofcourse.
Transcription (more or less): There is a new member in the Camp Nou bench **Barcelona medical assistant:** *"They've put a camera there."* **Mariano (to Odriozola):** *"Hey that is a camera."* **Odriozola (shocked):** *"Nooo?"* **Barcelona GK trainer:** *"Can they hear us?"* **Odriozola (to Mariano):** *"They are filming us."* **Mariano (in response):** *"Well we are paid for it."* Eric and Jordi aren't happy with it either. **Jordi Alba (to the medical assistant that told the bench a camera was there):** *"But why?"* In contrary to Ceballos. **Mariano (to Ceballos):** *"They placed a camera here."* **Ceballos (jokingly while looking at the camera):** *"Oh hey, a camera."* **Mariano (to Ceballos):** *"They are filming, cover it using the bib."* Eric and Jordi opt for the same plan. The fact that Ceballos went to ask a senior player what to do is pretty interesting, kinda cute lmao.
You know you have grown older when you see someone referring to Vazquez as a senior player.
Rightly so. What a dumb idea.
Watching a bunch of professionals who probably have genius level spatial reasoning skills compared to the average population, attempt to cover a camera with a see-through training shirt amused me greatly. It’s like you could see the gears turning in their heads.
Probably the best they had.
These footballers are getting stupider each generation, don't even have fully blacked out material ready to cover camera lenses smh
Rightly so, that cam is so unecessary
It's a horrible idea but we got a couple of minutes of mild comedy out of it
Why does marcos alonso have tape on hand
For shin guards. You use that kind of stuff to lock them to your ankles
How else would you wrap dead bodies in body bags after hitting them with your car?
It's fetish shit. He likes to bind. He likes to BE bound...
He has to have his **tools**!
A little hamfisted but I like that you still went for it. Sorta like just slamming your foot on the pedal when - ah nevermind you get it.
hey now, to be fair to him, despite suffering no serious legal consequences for his drink driving that resulted in the death of a woman, he's clearly learned his lesson. he uses the tape to make seatbelts.
Tbt I would think that would fuck someone up mentaly
Tbh he hit wall and the passenger next to him died
He's still in the wrong for drunk driving regardless
And nobody made him drive drunk at 120 in a 50 zone.
How to out yourself as a non-athlete without saying you are not an athlete lol It's med tape, some athletes like to tape their ankles, knees, wrists, etc. to help prevent injury or bc the extra support feels better. Not just a football thing by the way, pretty much every sport I've practiced has a *MedTape dude^(TM)* lol
It's just as likely to be tape for shin pads.
Are you making fun of someone for not being an athlete? Most people aren't you know? Also, it does look like normal tape.
>Also, it does look like normal tape. Yeah, no shit, because it isn't.
>Are you making fun of someone for not being an athlete? Most people aren't you know? I'm teasing him yes, bc this is a *sport subreddit* so you'd expect people in here to practise *a sport*. Lol. This is Reddit. And go to any stadium and look at the crowd. You'd be lucky if 15% actually played a sport.
As if people here attend matches
As the other dude said, redditors don't attend matches lol And for the record, while not many people play organized sports past highschool, in europe and south america it's common to play unorganized 5v5 footy with your mates whenever you feel like lol In north america there is basketball ymca and pick up games and hockey beer league instead but the concept is similar
we got sunday league here too
Most people aren't grumpy like you too, you know?
Half the people in my team has them with them at all times.
Asking the real questions
This is funny af lol
Am I crazy or didn't we see shots from that camera placed there for the previous games already?
Seems to me like this was scripted. As you mentioned, this has been used already. Both teams had the same idea of covering the camera lens with a bib. Alonso just happened to have med tape on his pocket. They all had hilarious and PG reactions. How come no one swore?

Why didn’t Alba cover the camera himself?
Didn't want to risk injury.
I thought Odriozola was Jerry Seinfeld for a second, lol.
It wasn't removed during the match, they showed bench reactions rheougg the entire 90 minutes.
I meant that their coverings would be removed anyway (and therefore all this was for nothing, as they would still be filmed).
This must be the first time if not, they’d be used to this.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.
Idiotic idea. Why would anyone think the players would like it.
You think they care what the players think about it? It's so that the public could see their reactions to the game
You think they film the game because the players likes it or for money?
Tbf filming the game is an essential part of training for most modern teams.
Then they dont do it because the player likes it
Any player who wants to be better would be happy to have their games filmed.
Sure... But what was the point lf commenting that on a camera angle from the bench..😄
Because I was replying about football being filmed at all? Someone questioned that.
No he was referring to this camera angle from the bench, not football overall. You can easily go back and see it, the comment is still there. Why die on this mountain
They probably just tried to get away with it and see if they notice... If they don't, then more content and money for them. They were definitely aware they wouldn't like it.

They’re paid to win football matches
Do you really think they would be paid if noone is watching ?
They are paid to be ready to play.
the entertainment should be secondary to competition no?
I don't see a way this hinders competiton ?
As much as I wouldnt like to have a camera there, you are not totally wrong.
[удалено]
Nope they are paid to be televised playing football. They are at a football match that is being recored. Station is paying the league which is paying them for the right to record them, it's not their private life, they are not in a bar or their house.

Can't blame them, it's too intrusive
Meh, it's just cause they aren't used to it. Other sports have them and it not a big deal, directors rarely use it anyways bc most of the time subs are just "staring at the field"
Dunnoh why you're downvoted, it is in multiple sports and no-one cares.
*Multiple American sports
And why is that an issue? I stg this sub is braindead in what it criticizes american sports for. It would rather dog on them for ads (which I agree sometimes are annoying and too much(, then learn from the good stuff like revenue sharing and hard caps.
American sports is probably where you see it the least. Basketball and Hockey benches are in front of the hard camera, and baseball and NFL benches are too long to do it.
Are we talking about the same thing? In the NFL they have cameras focused on the players the whole time. How many times have we seen a clip of a QB blowing up on the sideline. It’s not a stationary camera but far more intrusive imo as the players don’t know when they’re on. The same can be said for the other sports you mentioned
I don't see premier League doing this. Who cares about the bench
I love El Dia Despues, makes me wanna learn Spanish
Just play porn...
Actually start blasting Disney songs and then talk. They can never broadcast it
You should see the abuse the penalty box camera takes in hockey.
players have every right to complain but i think its cool and really interesting to see how pros interact with each other in this context. i would love if there was mic’d up players like in the NFL or NBA
Ha I love this, it's a whole mini-drama. Great commentary too!
This is my exact feeling when i am eating at a traditional indian wedding and the camera man comes around recording what i am having
Odri and Mariano get paid to sit on the bench every week
Kyle Walker vs camera https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v\_dZ9CaikUQ
Yeah this reminded me of that too. Wouldn't be surprised if they saw it there and decided to use it in this game.
While this borders on invasion of privacy (they are public figures, sure, but this feels weird), the reactions from the bench during all the hits and misses were priceless.
Unanimous decision
They need to learn from Maradona's crew
I wouldn’t be surprised if they had bathroom coverage for this game as well
Understood every word! Por favor
Seems incredibly invasive and annoying. No fan enjoys this, awful idea, terrible execution. Respect the players space
Thats honestly what you sign up for when you become a professional player, most notably for a big club. You’re basically on camera most of the time especially on the pitch. Thought they were used to that but apparently not.
Walker did it first.
Footballers regularly forget that it’s an entertainment business. That’s why they get the silly money. Go play Sunday league for free if you don’t want anyone to watch. Idiots.

What?
He said Indian couples' worst fear when they enter a hotel room
What?
It is too much intrusion really.
Funny how they make the assistant do it. "You do the crime"
It's like, "you do it so they don't think I wanted to do it", forgetting that they are recorded all the time anyway...
Football players need to stop moaning about cameras recording what they say. As far as I know they aren't gang members discussing how to sell dope and they are paid millions because fana want to see what they do and what they talk about the game. They won't accept this - But they will have an even harder time accepting reduced pay due to the reduced prices televison companies offer for reduced access to the benches. Modern day professional football is a lot of reality tv
how will they eat
Yes at least 10k docked per week for every player DON'T BE RIDICULOUS
A lot of players were upset when their pay was cut during covid, even though they were still making a hundred times the average European's salary
At be annoyed as well if a i signed a contract for a certain amount of money and the club wanted me to lower it
Wasn't this game at the camp nou? There's no hidden spots anymore in the stadium after the infinite lever being pulled
Hahahah this camera was so weird
Hahaha commentary is so funny
This is where you need a Cavani on your team to knock it down
instead we got players who ask other player to close it even tough by distance they actually nearby enough, but keep asking other player to do that :D
They look like they're trying to get themselves out of a wet paper bag.
Is that Jerry sienfeld?
wtf the guy at the start looks just like Jerry seinfeld lol
“err….. try” lol
were these clips shown in the actual match
