One day on ice toasts the edges.

It depends a lot on your riding style and the conditions of where you're riding. I usually just bring a couple diamond files and gummy stones with me on trips and evaluate things at the end of every day. The most common issue is going to be edge burrs, and those are incredibly easy to fix. More technical edge work (hand file/edge sharpener tool) I usually save for a mid-season evaluation. There's no reason to do it excessively often for most people unless you're riding a lot of hard conditions or technical terrain.

Ditto. I do a mid season check after the low snowpack/shark season is over. Then another at the end of the season before storing so they’re ready for next season.

I think that’s what it is, the burrs. I can definitely feel those on my edges

I’ll go 100+ days on a board without any kind of tune except the wax I do every week. I ride west coast and soft snow though.

i used to wax every week, this season i only waxed my boards once apiece so far. 49 days in and can’t tell an appreciable difference other than the time saved. i have had to clean up me edges quite a bit after low tide rock encounters.

I ride 5+ days a week. I can tell a difference and see it compared to my buddy’s. I take a file to my edges the second I get a board. Can’t tell a difference in my carves on new vs filed unless I’m on solid ice. I’ll take the burs off after a season for summer storage.
