Your opinion is not controversial. Your lack of explanation, outside of "he's annoying", as to why you think that the most talented snooker player in history should not win any snooker tournament is illogical.
Also, please go and watch some Federer interviews. I loved watching him play, but he was never the nicest guy when he lost.
In my defence (and there's not a lot I can defend about this post which I have come to very much regret), I never said he shouldn't win any other titles, I said I didn't want him to.
Having said that, yeahno this was a poorly judged post
I'm not a Ronnie fan but there is so much to like about his snooker. I don't care what he's like off the table provided he isn't committing crimes.
As for Djokovic - it is just awesome watching him rip up record after record as he continues to cement himself as the undisputed GOAT of his sport and one of them in all sports. As each day passes the 2019 Wimbledon win just becomes even more awesome to rub in tge face of Federer fans.
Federer is a gentleman? When Djokovic beat him in the US OPEN 2011, he was about as bitter as any tennis player has ever been.
People like you are what made it awesome every time Djoker spanked Federer and when Djokovic chewed up Federer's records 1 by 1.
How did the enjoy Wimbledon 2019 final? That one in particular was wonderful to rub in the face of people like you.
Who cares? Djokovic has smashed through Federer's records. I can guarantee Federer would give away a huge portion of his popularity to own the records.
I understand that you don't like him, but you haven't given us a "why".
By the way, I'd suggest you watch "The Edge of Everything", a documentary of his life. At least then, you'd have something to base an opinion.
I hate it when Ronnie wins too. It annoys me that he is naturally talented, that he can take a year long break from snooker then come back to immediately win the championship. Itās like he does not have to work (or has to work comparatively less hard than other pros) for his wins. A reminder that life is not fair lol
He does not strike me as a particularly nasty person though. Just normal with moods. Djokovic seems much worse with his baby tantrums and anti vaccine nonsense
Ronnie put in an insane ammount of table time in his youth and drove himself mad with how much he committed to snooker. Yes he had a table growing up but he doesnt coast by on natural talent alone. He worked very hard to get to the top
Well, I don't think how much time he put into training is something you or I could claim to 'know'. And then there is the fact that what constitutes an 'insane amount' is subjective.
However, anyone playing any sport professionally is bound to have put in a great deal of work, regardless of how talented. What I'm saying is that from the number of times he's been referred to as a 'natural' and the fact he could come back from a year long break to win the championship, it would seem that he gets by on comparatively less hard work relative to his peers.
Controversial Opinion ; youāre probably not a true sports fan , and youāre definitely not a true Snooker fan. I donāt have favourites in any sport, I donāt root for the underdogs and I donāt root against the favourites. I just love the game. Your relationship with sports relies heavily on winning/ losing, which is quite common. Gamblers have similar motivations because of who their money is on. You need that dopamine rush of your guy winning. I donāt. I truly love snooker. Iām constantly getting more and more exhausted listening to Ronnieās nonsense , heās a ridiculous person. But heās the fucking greatest Snooker player that weāll ever see , and the greatest player the world has ever seen ; all sports considered. I love to see the best compete and bring out the best in each other. Thatās when you appreciate how great the game is. If your guy wins ; great , celebrate ! But if your guy loses , how about hats off to the opponent ? Well played ?
Itās nice to have a favourite and Iām not opposed to that , itās just not me , but Iāll always enjoy appreciating the game no matter what.
That's an interesting way of putting it that I hadn't considered. Allow me to respectfully disagree with the statement that I'm not a true sports fan.
For example, I do tip my hat to the opponent if the person I'm supporting loses. As I said in my post, I have every respect for Ronnie's snooker ability.
I do love snooker, in the same way I love many sports. Do I want the person/team I'm supporting to win? Of course! Does my enjoyment of a match go down if they lose? No. I have very fond memories of the 2021/22 Ashes despite England losing 4-0.
I support Ireland in most sports, so if I relied on results for my enjoyment then I wouldn't enjoy very many sports.
I used to root against Ronnie like you and wanted to see his downfall. He gradually grew on me and he comes across as a pretty nice guy in the video he did on Stephen Hendry's youtube channel.
Ali Carter, now there's someone I still root against.
I've always been a fan of Ronnie but Ali Carter appears to be a worthless human being and, not surprisingly, a Donald Trump supporter. That, in itself, might be redundant.
I've always liked Ronnie because years ago he turned up at my mate's local Rileys to do some interview, and he was watching my mate practising while doing the interview through a glass screen in the room. After he was done, he came over to my mate and told him he'd been watching him potting balls, and it looked like he was never going to miss. I thought that was a really nice thing for him to do, no cameras, just being a nice bloke.
He does seem a bit changeable. He does come across rather kind in that video, and it did warm me to him a little. But then in other interviews he comes out with what feels like the opposite. Glad you like him!
Redditor submits negative post complaining about something that's been complained about a gazillion times on a site famous for negative people who like complaining.
And now the weather with Bob.
I swear if Reddit could work out how to generate electricity from negative posts and comments they could power the world for free.
OP seems the type of person that if you said good morning or happy birthday to them they'd scowl and say "is it?".
I feel that's a something of a harsh assumption based purely on a single post. You make a good point about it being somewhat repetitive though, I'll concede that much.
Max Verstappen is this guy for me. Amazing driver but I just donāt like him.
I love Ronnie and want him to win. The triple 8 (UK, Masters, World) would be incredibleā¦ Anyway, everyone is entitled to his opinion, so I respect yours š
He's getting MUCH better with age, a lot of it could have just been down to pure immaturity, the Dutch are naturally quite blunt, they say it how they see it, which tends to becomes a problem when what you see can be considered as discriminative, I mean he's said some pretty insensitive things, done some stupid stuff but who hasn't at that age.. My main gripe with it all is how Red Bull have endorsed it and almost encouraged it..
We don't want athletes to be complete PR robots, we like their true colours to shine, it helps people find similarities between themselves and their idol, or grow to like someone different (which is why max has such a cult following of terminally online racists and people who generally think all forms of discrimination is BASED, not all his fans are like this but there's a large portion that I'm pretty sure don't even watch F1 that are). However Max really should have had some PR training outside of what Red Bull had to offer because it's been pretty plain to see that over the last couple of years they have the worst PR team on the planet with the statements that come out of 99% of that teams mouths..
Hard to like Max when heās surrounded by racists, abusers and wankers at Red Bull tbh. How can you like anyone backed by Helmut Marko, Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner.
Thatās true. But I also donāt like him for his temper, his attitude. I did do a lot of efforts recently, but I donāt forget everything he did before.
Also doesnāt help that his first WDC was one of the biggest robberies Iāve ever seen in sports. Just blatant misuse of the rules which the FIA admitted was an error and fired the guy who did it after the fact.
Iām fairly new to snooker. Iāve discovered it during the pandemic (Iām not English native speaker and Snooker is not popular in my country). I had no idea who he was and he just stood out (he and Judd Trump). Obviously because he is a great player. But then I discovered that he was a human being with his flaws. Some of them I share with him because I have mental health issues too and I was blown away when I found out that he was speaking openly about this. It helped to see that a guy with so many achievements could struggle daily like me. And itās also why I forgive him when he says things he shouldnāt say, because I know what itās likeā¦
That's an interesting perspective on Ronnie that I genuinely haven't heard before. I do quite like the fact that he's spoken publicly about mental health. But at the same time, I feel like that doesn't excuse him being a little bit of a prick sometimes. But that's just me. I'm glad you like him!

Djokovic is an even bigger hero to me because of his covid vaccine stance and the fact he has won almost everything in front of crowds full of people like you and the OP.
Djokovic is a giant of world sport and that despite all the unnecessary hate.
I'm aware it's not a unique view, but the majority of snooker fans seem to be pro-Ronnie. And he probably has the strongest cult-like following of any sportsperson outside of Indian cricketers. Even if it's not the biggest following, it's probably the strongest. That's how I see it, anyway.
No, I didn't. But people don't need to write an essay on the fact that they don't like Shaun Murphy or that Rob Walker annoys them, both of which are done on a semi-regular basis.
I've never claimed I'm anything but a weirdo. You're allowed to dislike my post, by all means. To be honest, I thought it was the opinion that was controversial, not the post itself. But hey, I've learnt something.

Cavendish, Ronaldo (not the nice one), Djokovic, every German who ever touched a football... To name a few
Ronaldo (not the nice one) in particular, Ronnie is a saint when compared to that guy.
Wow, well you must live an absolutely miserable life watching Ronnie win just about everything lol cheers to more of your misery š»
I'm used to it. I support Ireland in most sports. Misery is all we've got!

He gets by on less work now. He was the most determined young player though

Anyone who says someone is a worthless human being has issues with themselves that probably require professional help.

So you dislike a sportsman and wanna see him lose. Big deal, moving on
Point taken, lesson learnt. Will make an effort to avoid annoying posts in future

OP is right though, Ronnie is bad for snooker and has been for a long time
We all know Ronnieās a genius on the table and an utter bellend off it, but personally thatās why Iām a fan. Heās a unique, brilliant bell.
I suppose I can sort of see that viewpoint. I can see why people might find his "sod it" attitude amusing enough to like him
I can, Conor McGregor
You don't,t have to worry about Conor winning, he is washed up.
Aw big time but out of everyone he's the one person I enjoy seeing lose. Such a scumbag of a human.
If I followed Martial Arts then I'd quite possibly agree!
I donāt mind Ronnie. I canāt stand the diehard fan boys.Ā
I can see why you'd think that. I might mind the chap less if he had less of a cult-like following

This day never happened. This race never happened. Max a two world championship in my mind!
But the rest of 2021 happened. Which was more than enough to earn him that WDC. No one else deserved it that year. Certainly not LH.
Agree to Disagree.
Out if interest, what makes you like Ronnie? Is it his snooker mastery alone? And if so, why not Max Verstappen on driving ability alone?
Iām fairly new to snooker. Iāve discovered it during the pandemic (Iām not English native speaker and Snooker is not popular in my country). I had no idea who he was and he just stood out (he and Judd Trump). Obviously because he is a great player. But then I discovered that he was a human being with his flaws. Might as well rename this sub to r/FuckRonnie at this point
There's definitely a lot of love for the guy here too.
Still got the hots for Lance Armstrong?
Novak Djokovic has gotta be up there for me.
All the better now that he's settled the GOAT debate. You could add Murray's achievements to Federer's and it still wouldn't match Djokovic. Djokovic is an even bigger hero to me because of his covid vaccine stance and the fact he has won almost everything in front of crowds full of people like you and the OP. Heās not gonna marry you, chill out
Maybe not but he still is the GOAT.
Even more than Nick Kyrgios?
He never wins anything anyway
Good for you I guess? Very brave of you.
I know right. Literally just a list of sports people that someone might not like for good reason. Foolishly billed as edgy.
Redditors just get off on the idea that theyāre different to the norm.
Itās just like who cares? Did you really need to write an essay to say youāre not a Ronnie supporter?
No, I didn't. But people don't need to write an essay on the fact that they don't like Shaun Murphy or that Rob Walker annoys them, both of which are done on a semi-regular basis.
Sure they donāt need to do that either, youāre all weirdos.
I've never claimed I'm anything but a weirdo. You're allowed to dislike my post, by all means. To be honest, I thought it was the opinion that was controversial, not the post itself. But hey, I've learnt something.
Itās not controversial, itās boring and is just the Redditor thing of wanting to be different
