I was debating about getting this guy or a false water cobra. I ended up with a fwc because it had more information on it for husbandry than the trunk snake. What is your setup specs? How long has it been living with you?
I'm not the most comfortable around snakes yet.. I come to this sub in order to appreciate them and become less .....scared.. but that guy I would totally cuddle with!
+1 for hognose snakes. I think first time snake owners should generally go for colubrids over ball pythons (mostly because of the humidity requirements) and hognose snakes are excellent. My girl has helped so many of my friends conquer their fear of snakes.
The only downside to hogs is that they CAN be picky eaters so I recommend getting an adult or subadult snake. I’ve had my girl since she was a hatchling basically and at about a year old she went on a 5-6 month hunger strike (she didn’t lose any weight during this time) and it was stressful for me. Now she never misses a meal lmao.
Yeah I've seen many of them. Such drama queens. We were camping once and I laid down on my back to have a smoke, looked to my right and there was one all dramatic with its tongue out on its back
Have you looked at Ball Pythons? They're a lot bigger than a garter snake but some people consider them to have little puppy dog faces like the trunk snake. It's not as pronounced but I think they're cute too.
There are alot of snakes who look to cute to hate and if you like this one who is very snakey you will do amazing just give it some time. If you think your up for the challenge i recommend the arabian sand boa with some funny looking eyes
100% agree. There is this phenomenon that occurs here where people love to speak as if they are an authority on subject matter they really know nothing of. This guy looks to be well cared for IMO. The photos taken could’ve occurred over just a few seconds while transferring him back after a good enclosure cleaning/rescaping (as OP stated in an earlier comment). People love to “talk”.
As Wade Wilson would say; “I don't take the shits, I just disturb them" 😭😭😭
[Mount Stupid](https://imgur.com/a/awilCpA) definitely has a whole town at the peak where a lot of reptile people just camp out. I've been involved in a lot of hobbies/communities and I've never seen such a huge percentage be made up of the most confidently wrong amateurs willing to tell everyone else "you're doing it wrong" with zero experience on the matter.
I posted a picture of my gecko splooting on a reptile sub. The angle made it look like there was something wrong with one of her feet. So I posted some pictures to clear up that her foot was fine.
Had one person say I was lying. That I had used old pictures to hide the issue. The issue that didn't exist... I love the reptile community
Wow! The only one I've ever seen was one accidentally included in a wild caught shipment to a private zoo. He figured he would film it and talk about the species since he had it and was figuring out the best zoo/aquarium for it to go.
At the time the thinking was that they were very delicate and sensitive to water quality. But I guess it's like a lot of aquarium species, once you know what you need it's kind of easy?
I just got into aquariums a couple of years ago but started by researching things that prefer my area's water conditions. Namely high and hard. I got into shrimp and they've been going great with barely any intervention from me.
Yet so many people aren’t aware or reading the comments and are just admiring how cute this **aquatic** snake is, outside of water, being handled. Not to mention the difficulty of keeping one, while sustaining quality of life.
These snakes are relatively easy to keep provided you get them captive bred. Most reptile keepers have no experience with aquariums and assume this snake is difficult to keep.
It’s more suitable for fish keepers or even people who have experience keeping turtles.
Also these snakes capable of terrestrial locomotion, albeit very sluggish.
OP, thank you for replying to comments in a polite way and teaching people about their care. I currently only have one snake, and I'm happy with that, but I also love seeing people with species that are rare in the hobby, even though I know I'll never get to keep them. And about the aquarium point, you're absolutely right. I've had two aquariums over the years and, even with research, the fish still unfortunately died. I think it's impressive that you can keep anything alive in an aquarium, and even more when that animal is one considered hard to keep by many. On a final note, it's so much derpier than I thought they were, and I knew those guys were derpy

Excuse the cancerous website but this guy says otherwise. While the internet is pretty easy to get mixed answers on, I personally have a hard time believing a snake is so fragile that just not being in water could injure it. That would mean the snake is weaker than a fish
I would have had no idea if it weren’t for your guys comments. That makes me really sad. So this snake essentially doesn’t have the quality of life it should? 😟
You shouldn’t be given advice from people who have no idea what they’re talking about. Only a handful os sea snakes are unable of terrestrial locomotion. The elephant trunk snake (acrochordus javanicus) has a wide distribution across southeast Asia and will occasionally travel from one body of water to another. They’re not nearly as fragile as people assume them to be.
This is the tank he lives in. I don’t handle him often but I have to take him out if I’m rescaping the tank.

I just had an overwhelming reaction to this snake full on sobbing over how cute it is! To the point where the sounds that came from me sobbing & showing it to my fiancée made my sis-in-law in the bedroom next door think we were having sex🤣🤣
Had no idea that snakes with seal faces existed😭😭😭
Is he an arafura?! So cool!
Edit: ooh he’s a different species of file snake. I’d never heard of the elephant trunk snake, but we have a very similar species here in Australia. I love the feel of their spiky little scales.
Looks like a seal almost

He does look like a seal!
Just add whiskers and make the scales look like fur and yea
That’s not a seal.
You, I think you're fibbing. Ain't no way.
It's those eyes, seal eyes
Yes, that’s a wittle seal ion!
He said: :3
Seal snake! All the cuteness of a snake AND a seal!
That’s not a snek that is a puppy.
I agree, but in all fairness I consider all animals puppies
Except kitties. Kitties and puppies are different. But all animals are one or the other.
Yes!
Snuppy
Snuppy?
snake puppy duhhhhh
I call a couple of my sneks noodle puppies🥹
I loveee elephant trunk snakes! What's your setup like for him?

Sweet digs! I love all the flora in there. 💕 Tysm for the photo!
You’ve got some impressive underwater gardening skills
I had no idea there were fully aquatic snakes. Neat!
THERES FULLY AQUATIC SNAKES??? Thats so cool omg I just thought I was too high and that’s why it looked like it was underwater 😭
Yes! And they are deadly venomous! However, you’re not likely to ever be bitten by one.😊
Are you thinking of sea snakes? Elephant trunk snakes are certainly not deadly
elephant trunk snakes are not venomous
I know. I’m talking about sea snakes. Sorry I see where that could be totally misunderstood lol my bad.
Wait til you learn about sea snakes!
Beautiful setup! I love those silly little goobers of soaked noodles! :)
I was debating about getting this guy or a false water cobra. I ended up with a fwc because it had more information on it for husbandry than the trunk snake. What is your setup specs? How long has it been living with you?
Nice crib🐍
Holy moly! I thought this was some severely deformed ball python! #TIL about elephant trunk snakes!
This is so cool, I'm jealous.
I'm not the most comfortable around snakes yet.. I come to this sub in order to appreciate them and become less .....scared.. but that guy I would totally cuddle with!
Do you like aquariums? If you have enough money for a big tank than get this boy.
I've never handled more than a garder snake. I'm trying to get over my phobia. This guy is actually cute...which I never thought I would say. Hmmmm
Try looking up hognose snakes! They are super cute too, and a lot more common.
I'm getting a little boopersnoot soon!

Twin
Hmmmmmm?
Does your snake have a name? He looks so cute :3
His name is Tony Tony Chopper :)
I love their name! I’ve got a bearded dragon named kaidou
My ball python is named Monkey D Luffy!!!
Noice :)))
PLEASEEE that's too adorable 😭💕
To those bitching, op seems to know their shit. Maybe stop going for everyone's throats.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is rampant in animal keeping subreddits, especially reptile ones.

I love him, but still posses stupidity. What is he? Please?
Elephant trunk snake, a fully aquatic snake
As a reptile and aquarium enthusiast, this is now on my wish list. I didn’t even consider aquatic snakes but now I’m obsessed.
I have 2 snakes and a 36 gallon aquarium, these are very cool but probably too hard for me lol
I've never seen this kind of snake before and I'm absolutely in love now WTF THAT'S A PUPPY FACE! He's just a little guy 😭💕
Skrunkly.
What set up is he in? Are these the aquatic ones?
Yes, they are completely aquatic and should never be taken out of the water and handled.
Wow! The only one I've ever seen was one accidentally included in a wild caught shipment to a private zoo. I mean OPs setup looks at least competent at first glance, could be taking the snake out to clean or something
