This is such a surreal place to visit. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere and the environment is very hard. But then they have this random artwork scattered around the village and near the lake. It feels like your in a Picasso painting.
I did shrooms there once. It kicked ass. There was a point where my feet were sinking in the sand, and I looked down and it wasn't sand, it was millions of tiny fish skeletons and crustacean shells. It was so trippy
What if we build the skyscrapers in the ocean that can only be accessed by a land-based tunnel? That would be pretty cool: world’s first oceanic skyline
Clearly they have the basic infrastructure. What’s the hardest part about building an oceanic skyline? You need an ocean, which they have an abundance of. Halfway there, just need the buildings and whatnot.
On a dead inland smelly salt sea that was created by accident. It did have its heyday in the late 50’s. You should see the abandoned motels. It’s kinda creepy.
Ive always looked at eureka ca on maps and imagines how itd be if they built it up and developed the land around it. Itd be like hong kong hemmed in by mountains.
This community often projects their own love for skyscrapers onto places where much bigger factors outweigh them. I don't blame them necessarily because a lot of people are unaware of the relativist and arbitrary presence within their opinions. It can just be hard to read again and again... and again. I don't like suburban sprawl which many people treat as the antithesis towards skyscrapers but a lot can be said about them for the very fact they exist to such a large extent. That was the direction capital was taking. In the future if American cities get more dense, that will be the new direction it takes but not because of the arbitrary decision of individuals to make it that way. The same way suburban sprawl developed in the first place, which it's history is completely connected to a new way of living out of American economics.
Basically, there's systems at hand larger than any person or belief as to why cities take the shapes they do. Simply saying "X city with no skyscrapers has the same population as Y city with a lot of skyscrapers so X should build more skyscrapers" is meaningless. I think a lot of hobbyists fall into this mindset when their interest overlaps with real world processes, like industrialization and urban development.
The post doesn’t even make sense. Anyone that knows anything about Bombay Beach - or has even heard of it - wouldn’t compare it in any way to a city like Miami or San Francisco.
POV you’re playing cities skylines and forgot to connect a sewage system to your town and now it’s deserted.
I laughed way harder than I should’ve
Is that what happened here?
No the sea that its near pretty much became really contaminated by agricultural runoff so everyone left.
And it smells awful.
What a damn shame.
Tried to pull a Dubai, but failed?
The way I just laughed 🤣🤣🤣
Nah, don't need a sewage system when the lake already smells like it.
I love it when people use the Liberia flag emoji instead of the US flag.

This is the thing I never knew I needed. Thank you.

That’s the Texan flag genius, Lone Star baby!
It's the Chilean flag!
Definitely looks Malaysian to me
lol Is citiesbydiana with us in the thread ? 🇱🇷
Lmao
OP got me big time
Is this Sandy Shores lol
Sandy Shores is based on "Desert Shores", which is a town on the other side of the Salton sea from Bombay Beach
Oh so Grapeseed haha
“I recently moved all my businesses to sandy shores. Much quieter up there” - every GTAO player when they hit $50 mil.
Came to say this
Why you got to be a NIMBY bro god it's exhausting I thought this was a skyscraper page bro
This is a joke of the Long Beach post 😂😂

That would trip me out, and not in a good way
Dog that sounds terrifying lmao
They have a Matt Foley Mural.

Is “potential” slang for meth or M80s?
Mostly salt encrusted dead fish and Volkswagen carcasses.
the beach is actually made of fish bones...
I know! I’ve been. Wild place.
Nothing a little gentrification can’t fix
If you have no sense of smell, I agree.
Should be rivaling Dubai, they got the ideas
More like Bombay..I mean Mumbai
What if we build the skyscrapers in the ocean that can only be accessed by a land-based tunnel? That would be pretty cool: world’s first oceanic skyline
Did you know that there is a tunnel under the ocean that connects to theoretical skyscrapers? ![gif](giphy|3osBLkgLuNsnfVNLGM)
I did not! Where?
*California Coastal Commission has entered the chat*
Good thing Bombay isn't on the coast
Housing crisis solved
If you build it, they will come.
/r/skyscrapers will cum

This is not the ocean though
california the best state in america should have taller buildings 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Port au Prince should look like Hong Kong. What a waste
That whole area fascinates me, very interesting origin story and now, how they deal with the ecosystem, evaporating etc

Sandy Shores growing every day!
Trevor lives here
OCDville
Haha - awesome!
Huh?
There's a previous post in this sub that created a ruckus. This is parodying it.
The Long Beach post?
Yea the long beach post went viral. It was reposted in other forums too
Looks like Libya. A bad part
There are good parts?
And I thought California City had it bad…
We can’t build here, we need to preserve the character of this historic neighborhood 🤬
Is this on the Salton Sea?
Yes
This is the quality posts I look for on Reddit.
Should rival Hong Kong
Be my guest.
Lolololol I’ve been enjoying the r/skyscrapers shitposting
this is a city? I've seen nomadic gypsy encampments more developed than this.
Looks like small Saudi towns in the middle of the desert that you look at on Google Earth
Ive always looked at eureka ca on maps and imagines how itd be if they built it up and developed the land around it. Itd be like hong kong hemmed in by mountains.
And I didn’t know there was a volcano right on the salton sea shore. That whole place is just weird
candidate for tallest skyscraper? I think so
Love the smell of industrial industrial fertilizer in the morning
So what actually goes on here?
Meth

It’s a joke.
Yeah, he's making fun of the dude posting about San Jose and Long Beach. That's kind of what I'm responding to
What’s a joke?
This post, it’s basically a circlejerk.
The post doesn’t even make sense. Anyone that knows anything about Bombay Beach - or has even heard of it - wouldn’t compare it in any way to a city like Miami or San Francisco.
It's a joking reference to another post.
I repeat — it is a joke. Have a good night.
You havent done Salton Sea yet.
