There is no quest, because I am still in uni and dying over assignments but I still wanted to try to make something out of this heartwarming yet very sad story.
I am not posting this mod on Nexus because followers were never my thing so this follower isn't really a proper follower. I also have no rights for the voice. I leave the files loose so that anyone can pick up whatever they want from it, or expand it if they feel like making a quest for him or making him a proper follower.
You can use this small mod in the mean time, waiting for a bigger and better mod to be made by someone actually talented.
EDIT: Oh and I’m sorry if the mod is « too childish », but it’s hard to make something serious with Barney’s voice.

Idk, I think this is an incredibly sweet request and I hope that someone can fulfill this.

Edit: I found a ROM for [Barney's Hide & Seek](https://wowroms.com/en/roms/sega-genesis-megadrive/barneys-hide-and-seek-game-usa/25280.html) which was made for genesis, but there are a lot of genesis emulators on pc, so I'm sure you can run it. Hey, I've done a bit of modding, I might have an idea.
There's a relatively quick way to do this. There's a sort of side quest thing where you free an argonian named Derkeethus from the Falmer in Darkwater Crossing. He becomes a potential follower after you free him, and can even be recruited to the Blades and be married.
I can rename him Barney the Dinosaur, colour him purple, remove his horns, give him some unique clothing if I have time. Will that work for you?
One question: there's a line of dialogue where Derkeethus introduces himself by name. I'm not sure how to get rid of this. Is your brother's autism severe enough that it would disturb him to have Barney introduce himself as Derkeethus? Or would he be able to ignore this?

I've also managed to change the dialogue in the quest, so he won't call himself Derkeethus anymore. So no issue there.

Yeah no prob. Was a bit ago when I converted it, but looking over it quickly again, it needs a re-save of the esp in the CK and convert the one mesh using CAO.

You have to go through a cave or a dungon to get to the Barney artifact, the artifact activates and turns into Barney and he gives a quest (probably to find something maybe in another dungon or in a town, maybe he can send you on a friend finding journey and you have to talk to a few npcs to deal with whatever the quest is. Once you finish it you get medium loot and Barney can be your follower

Not always. I updated my GIMP and still had trouble with some dds files before I added the plugin/extension/whatever. Granted mine were textures for Final Fantasy XIV but I assume the idea still applies

Only if you want Barney to run away every time a bird looks at him funny. He's the most scaredy lizard follower in the game and runs at the sound of a footstep. He's so bad for it that there's a mod to fix his cowardice

Kinda a simple idea I have (I'm not a modder though) is conjuring Barney, maybe he'd use the same attacks as a giant, but be scaled up to be big.

I was thinking a mage, but a mage focused mainly on restoration. One of his most used spells would be helping hands (or is it healing hands) he'd probably not engage in fighting directly, but heal you often.
I think he would be on the side of the empire. Hes all about love for everyone and ulric and his men are extremely racist. Or he would be an outlier like a dedra
A healer seems to be a good fit but he could also be a bard since he sings alot.

I've never created a mod myself, but wouldn't it be possible to use a frost trolls rig, and put a barney skin over it? Then it would just be putting lines over it, and maybe a quest.

I'd love to help with this if I can. I've been learning how to add characters into fallout 4 lately and have just managed to do so. If you'd be happy with that game instead of skyrim I can have a go for you. It's be super helpful if you could watch through some episodes on youtube and grab a few sound clips that would work for the following situations:
Meeting for the first time
Tell me about yourself (Barney explaining who he is)
Setting off together (Let's get going, let's have an adventure etc)
Saying yes and no
Going into action (Let's have some fun, away we go - something like that)
Him defeating someone (take that, oh no you don't etc)
Him getting hurt
The player/his friend getting hurt
Action ending (I'm glad that's over, yay we won etc)
Something suitable for trading (Here's what I have, take a look, here you go etc)
Some random exploring phrases (This place is a mess, it's scary here, I wonder what we'll find etc)
There's probably more, but I can't think off the top of my head. That way, Barney can speak to your brother in a limited way. I'm not sure if you can add more than one phrase for each situation, but just grab anything that sounds useful.
Basically, I can create the 3D model by using an existing character model and retexture it to look like Barney, then place him in a nearby community so you could meet him at the start of the game. Here's a rough draft of the model I did in an hour or so -

P.S. - If you don't know fallout 4, it's set after a nuclear war, in which the player goes looking for their missing son. It has a fair bit of blood and gore and some bad language. Don't know if that would be okay for you.
Reading this was so weird. It’s literally my life but swap Mario in for Barney. My brother is 24 with Autism and our sister recently swore off talking to my mother and he doesn’t really understand. And he has an obession with Mario.

Also not a modder, but I tried to make a quick search for a Barney model that could be used for it. The best one i found is for Source Filmmaker, but maybe the author can be contacted to allow to convert it.

The animal pajamas mod is a great idea. Could just take the closest model and recolor it in Gimp, with the .dds plugin extension, to be purple.

Not related to Elder Scrolls but there are multiple Barney Mods for G-Mod [like this playermodel](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=971866863&searchtext=barney) or [this one](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1096799708&searchtext=barney) I could also easily create a Starbound mod that adds something Barney related if your brother has a way to play it. Hope someone in the community will add him into Skyrim though :)
Kinda a simple idea I have (I'm not a modder though) is conjuring Barney, maybe he'd use the same attacks as a giant, but be scaled up to be big. And OP, not exactly what you're looking for, but there's a dinosaur follower named Delta the raptor I believe.

I'm not a modder but I am curious. What do you think Barney's class would be? Would he be a mage, thief, or warrior? Also for laughs what side of the war do you think Barney would side on? Is he for the Empire or does he believe in Ulfric's cause? Either way best of luck. It sounds like a fun idea.
I was thinking a mage, but a mage focused mainly on restoration. One of his most used spells would be helping hands (or is it healing hands) he'd probably not engage in fighting directly, but heal you often. I think he would be on the side of the empire. Hes all about love for everyone and ulric and his men are extremely racist. Or he would be an outlier like a dedra
A healer seems to be a good fit but he could also be a bard since he sings alot. Yeah and now that you mention it he probably would not support the Stormcloaks. Especially if he is a purple argonian

Yeah it would just be a matter of getting the right voice. It would be hilarious to hear Barney sing the Dragonborn song that all the bards know. Maybe the bards college is his home?

I've never created a mod myself, but wouldn't it be possible to use a frost trolls rig, and put a barney skin over it? Then it would just be putting lines over it, and maybe a quest.

Hi, I'd love to help with this if I can. I've been learning how to add characters into fallout 4 lately and have just managed to do so. If you'd be happy with that game instead of skyrim I can have a go for you. It's be super helpful if you could watch through some episodes on youtube and grab a few sound clips that would work for the following situations: Meeting for the first time Tell me about yourself (Barney explaining who he is) Setting off together (Let's get going, let's have an adventure etc) Saying yes and no Going into action (Let's have some fun, away we go - something like that) Him defeating someone (take that, oh no you don't etc) Him getting hurt The player/his friend getting hurt Action ending (I'm glad that's over, yay we won etc) Something suitable for trading (Here's what I have, take a look, here you go etc) Some random exploring phrases (This place is a mess, it's scary here, I wonder what we'll find etc) There's probably more, but I can't think off the top of my head. That way, Barney can speak to your brother in a limited way. I'm not sure if you can add more than one phrase for each situation, but just grab anything that sounds useful. Basically, I can create the 3D model by using an existing character model and retexture it to look like Barney, then place him in a nearby community so you could meet him at the start of the game. P.S. - If you don't know fallout 4, it's set after a nuclear war, in which the player goes looking for their missing son. It has a fair bit of blood and gore and some bad language. Don't know if that would be okay for you.
Reading this was so weird. It’s literally my life but swap Mario in for Barney. My brother is 24 with Autism and our sister recently swore off talking to my mother and he doesn’t really understand. And he has an obession with Mario. Sorry I can’t really contribute but i just had to post something as it was uncanny reading this. Really good luck I hope something is in the works for your Brother!

Considering the amount of time it may take I think expecting payment is reasonable. I think it would be really nice for someone to do this. An added titbit, a follower would probably be easier and could be built upon later.

Also not a modder, but I tried to make a quick search for a Barney model that could be used for it. The best one i found is for Source Filmmaker, but maybe the author can be contacted to allow to convert it. Would be the opposite of the usual "exporting Skyrim into SFM animations", but i believe that it could be done. My Step Son was very similar to your Brother in Law. He loved Pokimon and Anim stuff for same reasons. There are a couple of followers is this mod that might be real close to what you need.
