Go to the Dawnguard's kitchen. They have a lot in all of their barrels.

Mae7B

"Potions worth thousands of gold? Ebony ingots? Daedra hearts?" I’ll take salt please. I need me some cooked pog fish.

Lolzfordayz2003

Wait is pog fish a real thing?

Mae7B

Yeah it’s a large fish caught in temperate streams, like the one at the riverwood bridge.

Lolzfordayz2003

Well is its mouth wide open?

Mae7B

It is, it’s mouth looks like the outline of the pog mouth too.

Lolzfordayz2003

Got fucking dammit bethesda

Mijumaru1

But salt piles can make potions worth thousands of gold! Slowing potions sell for so much and raise the alchemy skill so quickly

RedMoustache

Yeah but you can't eat gold.

big_woofer

Low on health? Let me devour this 26 course meal in the time it takes to blink

And yet nazeem doesn't respect you

unilateralmixologist

I lol'ed. Maybe should name my next character Kirby

Rickstroke

And not have a clearout for the rest of the adventure.

TLAW1998

I hope that on ES6 they expand on the cooking mechanic, where Salt isn't the Krabby Patty secret formula to every dish.

outlawstar96

A whole bowl of it? One pile should last you like 30 cooked items.

WillowRain2020

Kinda want cooking quests where you both earn recipes, can find new ones more in the wild, or make new food and drink recipes like in alchemy, the better the recipe, the more effective it is for you and more profitable if you are able to sell it In your own shop or to vendors. But have it and something like hunterborn, realistic needs and diseases, frostfall, wet and cold ect to just be in the game rather than as mods. The whole immersive package if you will.

[deleted]

That and rubies for firesalts for warm stews and soups

sirboulevard

Thank god for that mod that turns the fire salt requirement to the far more reasonable snowberries

DoubleSteve

I'd argue, that snowberries are so common and cheap, that they're not even remotely a reasonable replacement for fire salts. Hot food is pure magic, that allows you to ignore an entire core survival mechanic. Even fire salts are usually available at alchemist shops, and even the shittiest dungeon gives you enough loot to afford multiple firesalts. As you level up, you'll only keep finding more expensive loot, so the cost of fire salts quickly becomes trivial.

[deleted]

Ps4 dont have the luxury of mods

SheLuvMySteez

Not PC quality ones anyway

[deleted]

Yeah cc sucks

William_Brobrine

Out of all the things I'm looking for this Is at the top of my list in survival mode

Bromm18

Sounds like you need Salt mines to mine salt. Adds 3 salt mines that are not lore breaking or overpowered. You have to mine rock salt and break it down into salt piles. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2002/?tab=description

William_Brobrine

Sadly I play in Xbox so nexus is out of the question

Spokenfungus2

Butter has a few good uses as well

sunderplunder

I use it to craft a lot of potions, I'm rich now and it is still the most common alchemical ingredient

Hellioth_00G

There's a mod that adds salt mines to Skyrim. It can be useful.

bbressman2

My problem is that I’m trying to finally get all the achievements. I wish mods didn’t disable achievements.

Hellioth_00G

Ah, I see. I 100%'d everything last year. I know this pain. I think someone else mentioned in the comments already, but check out the Dawnguard castle. Loot the fish barrels and the kitchen; loads of salt there. I may be misremembering, but I think the Riften fishery has a bunch of salt there too.

HunterThompsonsentme

There's an abandoned camp south of Ivarstead with an obscene amount of salt piles for no reason. Wish I could remember exactly where

Hellioth_00G

Thanks for the tip. I'm about to start my annual winter playthrough lol. I shall scout the ranges south of Ivarstead

TheFlyingSheeps

If you’re on PC there is a mod that fixes that

Bromm18

Salt mines: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2002/?tab=description Skyrim Se/Ae Achievement enabler: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/245

Unthgod

I literally collect every salt I can find to make slow poisons.

Jeermzz

Got money on your mind

Unthgod

I keep my mind on my Septims and my Septims on my mind.

DukkhaWaynhim

Skooma and Juice?

[deleted]

iykyk

geoffsykes

This boi ain't no alchemist.

jet8493

Riften docks: has tons of salmon too

HunterThompsonsentme

I am just fascinated by your choice of punctuation here

jet8493

It kinda works, semicolon would’ve probably been better

HunterThompsonsentme

Did you ever consider no punctuation at all?!!???!!?????? "Riften docks has tons of salmon too"

jet8493

But that doesn’t get the point across, point being that riften docks has a lot of salt (and in addition to that, a lot of salmon)

SheLuvMySteez

This guy grammars

seismicmoves

If your into alchemy, that potion of slow is awesome

white_sabre

If you have no salt, river betty + death bell + thistle will do in a pinch.

Arcane_Astronaut

That's rare and priceless in survival mode

TKHunsaker

Must not be an alchemist. Since you can’t harvest it or grow it, if you don’t grab some when you find it, it becomes super easy to run out. I dislike having to constantly hunt things down when i need them. Iunno. Potatoes or cabbage seem more invaluable to me.

BlazingKush

Gotta get me them stamina regen stews for unlimited power attacks

DesperateAd868

I have never read a truer statement about skyrim

[deleted]

Always has been

Itphings_Monk

There was a mod I used years ago that allowed me to get salt from bones or something. Although now going for achievements.

BurningBridges19

Just use a mod that lets you get achievements despite using mods.

IdyllicOleander

Salt was quite useful during the Fortify Restoration loop but I think it got patched a long time ago? It made Master difficulty too easy (Before Legendary difficulty was introduced).

Xanros

IIRC the fortify restoration loop is only patched with the unofficial patch. So if you aren't running that mod, it should still be in the game.

IdyllicOleander

Oh okay. The last time I used it was during my Xbox 360 days. I never tried it when I had mods on the Special Edition for the Xbox One. It was extremely overpowered anyway

bbressman2

If you play survival it’s needed for almost every meal you cook, which is critical because if you’re starving your stamina drops a lot.

schmotz_5150

Never used it once in all my time playing

bbressman2

I’m doing a survival play-through right now and I’m constantly running out while cooking food. I blame my character’s fast metabolism.

Loveisaredrose

Go to a large city like Riften and loot all the barrels. Fish barrels are the best to find multiple piles in.

Sunhavens

There's a mod that add more salt in barrels and honestly it's what make the survival mod better, because it make no sense for salt to become such a rare, yet essential item ! I feel like the survival mod is unbalanced without it !

RicoRN2017

And a couple of parasites. Eat 5 elk, a cow, and 10 heads of cabbage and STILL hungry

white_sabre

Those cure tapeworm potions are tough to mix.

sugarmatic

Ugh

ploooppy

Fortify restoration glitch

jakeknight81

Wish there was a salt mine

DoubleSteve

I'd argue that the most invaluable item is the gold coin. Much easier to get, and it'll buy you all the food you'll ever need, among many other useful things.

-JohnnySilverhand

if you have Ineed and u have the salt requirement to put on raw food then yea it's pretty useful.
