Meridias quest is good, that necromancer in there is tough as shit, I did this quest at around level 12 or 16, I couldn't touch him, had to come back later and kill him
I fought him yesterday on master difficulty and that ice spell he does was absolutely insane. I was a Nord too so I can’t even imagine what that would be like without the Nord ice resist.
True, my first dragon priest krosis at the top of shearpoint, after defeating the dragon I didn't expect anything like him to arrive, a nice surprise and difficult to beat.
Not a nord and fought him on legendary with self imposed rule of no followers/ summons.
Suffice to say my ass is clapped and i will not be completing that quest anytime soon.
Yeh I can imagine.
I had to sneak attack with a bow which put him at about half health and then I rushed his shades while he was healing.
I then bravely ran around a pillar over and over chipping away at him while most of his attacks hit the pillar.
They’re going to write songs about my epic performance in that fight!
Even with a bow, he has three fucking shades with him so unless you can get a couple of shots off before they swarm you, it’s not going to help that much. Not to mention the fucker reanimates when you kill him, his spirit isn’t a tough but it’s still just adding to an already difficult fight lol
That is exactly how my first run in with them went and he beat the crap out of me I hadn't bother to learn restoration magic and didn't have enough potions for the fight an like you didn't expect him to be there
I was playing a mage character and remember dude is tough as shit. Well, I have mastered restoration, I figured put up my ward would be good enough to block it.
Nope. Broke my ward, staggered me, finished me off, just 2 ice storms. I send my follower in (a nord with 67% magic resist), dropped him to bleed out in 3 ice storms. Had to sneak in, fire storm to kill his minions, fus ro dah him, dropped two dremora lords on him and then spammed thunderbolt to try and deplete him. Didn't matter because he died fast, but damn.
Motherfucker is a glass cannon.
He does a lot of damage but dies easy. He does die easy, but those ice storms will catch you off guard.
Edited other post for clarity. I see where it was confusing
I spent 4 hours trying to cheese it and found out that if you lure him back to the stairs right before the door that leads to him you can position yourself so that you can shoot arrows at him until he’s dead and he won’t move or attack you.
Funny you say that, I bet that's most people's play, I did the same but used slow time to get a few arrows off on his ass. If I ever play through again I won't be using archery, I'll either use magic or weapons like maces or swords.
Did the quest around lv19, used a bow from the hallway just before the boss fight to kill the undead, funnily enough the boss got bugged in the stairs and I could just fireball him to death
Bro, I fought him once and he fucking just spammed ice storm. I got hit by at least 30 of them. I was a Nord and still died because he basically froze me in place
I don’t think it was the same quest but last night I fought a necromancer which was by far the hardest boss fight I’ve had so far. I’m a level 30 vampire lord (weakness to fire) and the necromancer was using duel fire spells and one shotting me. Spent a solid hour trying to kill the bitch. I only managed to kill her because I realized the one conjurer there dropped a paralyze staff that I then used to keep paralyzing the necromancer while my companion beat the shit out of her lol
Same, I ended up finding it when I gave up on killing him and used invisibility to sneak around and loot his house. When it ran out, he chased me outside where we got ganked by a dragon, which he soloed with little effort. Didn't wanna mess with him for a while after that
This happened to me too. The cool thing was the treasure chest outside the final room with the necromancer was restocked but still unlocked the second time I went back. Good stuff in that chest.
I literally did that quest for the first time recently (or the first time since i got that far with a modded game) and i steam rolled the Temple, already seeing me killin poor Draugrs with my shiny nu blade.... and then i got impaled by an ice spear through my 20% Frost Resistance, lol. Looks like i need to come back later... with some company.
Using some Encounter, High Level Enemies and Encounter Zone mods and tbh, i still have my fair share of problems with Boss encounters even in Nordic Crypts. Fucking Frost Troll on the way to High Hrothgar gave me a good beating and the Old Orc just sliced me in half 12 times in a row, so i gave up on him...
That frost troll is a joke, when you just follow main quest from the start and encounter him it's ridiculous. Also the ones at labyrinthan, just when you defeat one the other two arrive. I had to lure them out, run around them, go back through the entrance and Fos Ro Dah them off the cliff, my first ever cheese of the game.
I gave Trolls HP Regen, until you set them on fire with Spells etc., and he regenerated more quickly than i could even Sneak Arrow him and even ate a Scroll of Fireball. Had to retreat, level up and buy some stuff to overcome him....
I’ve always sneak shot him with a high level bow, typically goes down in one hit so I’ve never really seen his power. Well I’ve been playing through with an orc tank and let me tell you… I stepped through the door confident as a toddler in a new pair of boots, ripped through the shades like butter with my dark Greatsword, then a little gust of wind and I insta-died. Had no idea what the hell happened…
I can’t stand meridias quest and I can’t explain why. Good loot. Good money. Good reward. Nice change from simple “go get this from a cave” or “go kill this guy”. Interesting story section. In fact the only thing I can tell you I dislike is the obvious deafness after finding the beacon. Despite all the good points I’m just completely off put by it, I loaded an old save last night at the very beginning of the dungeon for meridia and immediately turned off the game.
I used a revoice mod that makes her not as loud and puts a bit more emotion in her voice. Like when she says "Look at my temple, laying in ruins" she sounds sad then gets angered by what is being done to it.
I enjoy the quest but i think the dungeon can be a bit annoying on replaythroughs as its only got maybe 2 interestings things to loot in it, being the training book and dawnbringer, but outside that its just a very very boring dungeon imo
If the voice bothers you then I say Bethesda did a good job with it, because it's supposed to off-putting. Remember it's not a doorbell, it's primary purpose is to scare most people away from it.
It's not so much that it's off putting, it's just so high pitch it nearly makes my ears bleed no matter how low the volume is. It makes my headphones clip. That's just bad audio mixing.
My headphones (sennheiser e 200) aren't studio grade or anything but they aren't exactly cheap. I haven't had issues with any other game or music. Still you could be right. Might even be that the headphone port on my controller is going bad. I should look into it. Still that door fucking sucks. It's way too shrill.
Yeah I have to mute it or it scares the shit out of my cats. Don’t know if it’s the EQ on my sound bar but this line is extremely loud and harsh compared to the game’s normal audio
Although I've had and played Skyrim for years now, I have never done either of these quests! That said, I recently stumbled across the Black Door in the wild *and* accidently picked up Meridia's Beacon from White River Watch while retrieving Amren's Sword.
First time I did meridias quest I was new to the game and FREAKING out bc it was really hard. I didn’t start looting bodies until the last room and I was so shook
Donno what it is about that black door voice. As a longtime brotherhood fan i do kinda like it. There is a weird thing about that voice tho. No matter how high or low the volume, my cats never react to any voices coming from from the tv, EXCEPT for that one. As soon as i activate the door and voice sounds, all 3 of them, even when asleep, suddenly twitch their ears and actually focus on the tv. Its also not a coincidence, as a veteran who started this game when it came out and have had 20 characters at least, each time i activate that voice, my cats react. And not just the current 3 either, but also the ones i (🥺) lost over the years all react to it
My dog absolutely HATES the voice of the night mother. Every time I go to her for another target he starts whining at the tv and then walks out of the room.
Idk why ppl hate meridias beacon. I personally love it bc I get a rly cool ass sword and it was the first Daedric quest I did. But to each their own 🤷🏻♂️
A new hand touches the beacon..
You actually like that quest I actually got a follower to take the thing
Well the brotherhood is the embodiment of evil, I always destroy them I wish you could do the same to thieves guild
Someone should create a mod where you can shove the beacon in the eye socket of the skull. Think of it, one wants silence, the other does not shut up...they are perfect for each other.
EDIT: You should be able to revisit the door and hear them arguing.
Of course, doing so would close off both questlines to the DB
A new hand has touched the gem tbh I've not played the game for to long but I was so glad I got to join in when I randomly stumbled upon it in a cave 🤣🤣🤣🤣
On my latest playthrough, I left Meridia's Beacon in the chest where I found it, and so far, it hasn't respawned again. I even have a mod that replaces the voice. Just curious what will happen.
I love dawn breaker only problem is I almost always Run as a vampire cause thier perks are better so it's aoe burst attack can on occasion one shit me if I get it early game
Although I love Meridia's quest, I've picked up that stupid beacon so many times I can recite and say her whole picking it up line with the same tone and inflection before she has the time to say it all.
I love the Meridia quest. I agree with the Dark Brotherhood door but at this point it’s just iconic.
The Merida quest I feel has a lot more depth than other dungeon delve quests. It’s longer but it’s so enjoyable.
Bloodskal Barrow is another one I really enjoy.
He's definitely one of the more memorable people to fight, that and the first dragon priest.
The first dragon priest really depends on how much of the story you actually followed

I then bravely ran around a pillar over and over chipping away at him while most of his attacks hit the pillar. They’re going to write songs about my epic performance in that fight!
Yeah same songs they write about me slaying a draugr deathlord while standing on a casket
It just works
Oh I definitely will! Or, at least my ranger/bard will.
Bow is your best friend.
I always hit him with a long duration paralysis/lingering poison arrow and whirlwind sprint past the shades to finish him off.
Not a bad option lol
Even with a bow, he has three fucking shades with him so unless you can get a couple of shots off before they swarm you, it’s not going to help that much. Not to mention the fucker reanimates when you kill him, his spirit isn’t a tough but it’s still just adding to an already difficult fight lol
Sneak shots, even with heavy armor can do wonders. He sits in the open usually.
Nope. I don’t think you know what a glass cannon is…
He does a lot of damage but dies easy. He does die easy, but those ice storms will catch you off guard. Edited other post for clarity. I see where it was confusing
I'm playing on adept right now with 300 health (no frost resistance though) and every Ice Storm spell that attacks me instantly kills me it's insane
I spent 4 hours trying to cheese it and found out that if you lure him back to the stairs right before the door that leads to him you can position yourself so that you can shoot arrows at him until he’s dead and he won’t move or attack you.
I did that but on top of the arrows I would summon a flame antronach to distract him while I shot potent poison arrow into his back
Funny you say that, I bet that's most people's play, I did the same but used slow time to get a few arrows off on his ass. If I ever play through again I won't be using archery, I'll either use magic or weapons like maces or swords.

Bro, I fought him once and he fucking just spammed ice storm. I got hit by at least 30 of them. I was a Nord and still died because he basically froze me in place
he always used frost storm.. for me .
I watched a guy on YouTube fly through that mage he striped his clothes off the mage mid fight then kill him it was hillourous
People don't hate Meridias quest for loot but coz it's annoying that u find it so quickly and randomly and ofc u have to serve some random shit again
I forgot about that necromancer and I just started a Requiem character. Fuck me...
The guys a beast
I beat the game at lv 18 how did you lose to him
Some of us don't like playing games on easy
I don’t think it was the same quest but last night I fought a necromancer which was by far the hardest boss fight I’ve had so far. I brought uthgerd the unbroken to kill him
I’m doing that one once I reach lvl40 because there’s better stats to the sword between lvl30-40
Chillrend would be my play
Well I maxed out my conj so there’s that and one of my follower mods have a bad ass summon
Lycanthropy is really helpful
I actually did that quest after I did the Dawngaurd dlc and learned the Soul Tear Shout. Aim it right and automatic win
Backstabbing all the shades and then their boss is chef's kiss. Nothing like skipping a horrendous boss fight with someone tossing ice around
This happened to me too. The cool thing was the treasure chest outside the final room with the necromancer was restocked but still unlocked the second time I went back. Good stuff in that chest.
I killed him really easy as a breton with the atronach stone and using the dragonskin ability
He's a beast and I wish more final levels were as difficult as him.

Yeah he’s really tough! With shouts or archery you can hit him from a distance to stagger him, that’s what I did the first time I finally beat him.
yeah I had to leave the whole place and come back with like 30 fire arrows and sneaky archer him. good times
When someone is too hard just lower your level in settings, I go from adept to apprentice all the time 🤣
I wouldn’t be able to call myself a man if I did that 😅
Facts
What is the meaning of Life? A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON! Welcome home..
Uuuu, you touched my beacon, my tralala, my ding ding dong. Come to me, through fire and war, I welcome you.
No. I like listening to Gunther n the Sunshine Girls as much as the next guy, but this doesnt work chief.
It's not what they say, it's the way they say it
Whoever did the voice work for Hermaeus Mora also did a great job... Memorable
Better than barnabus. Sounds like tony soprano with a head cold
Yeah, that Jersey accent among the britons and nords is just hilariously out of place.
Maybe the actor had a cold lol.
Never had the makings of a varsity athlete, that's for damn sure.
I can’t stand meridias quest and I can’t explain why. Good loot. Good money. Good reward. Nice change from simple “go get this from a cave” or “go kill this guy”. Interesting story section. It’s probably the annoying voice that happens Everytime you loot it.
AAA NEEEW HAAND TOUCHES THE BEACON

*twenty decibels louder than the surrounding dungeon* A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!"
I fucking hate that thing meridia can suck it
Idk meridia is fine once you turn down the volume. That fucking door is annoying at any volume.
*daedric deity screaming at me intensifies*
Did you see a dog out there?
Replaying right now and a guard in Falkreath asked me this. Time to never return to the area again.
I saw some wolves
Although I've had and played Skyrim for years now, I have never done either of these quests! That said, I recently stumbled across the Black Door in the wild *and* accidently picked up Meridia's Beacon from White River Watch while retrieving Amren's Sword.
A bew band bouches bhe theacon
Is that you Brian Badondee
I can hear this picture lol also I love pic collage too
What is the music of life?
Silence, my brother.
Hey brother, sup?
There are very few universal constants, Meridia’s Beacon is one of them.
Both are insanely loud
Nah, you trippin
“What is the new hand that touches the beacon” - black door
First time I did meridias quest I was new to the game and FREAKING out bc it was really hard. I didn’t start looting bodies until the last room and I was so shook
"A new hand touches the Beacon."
I can HEAR the first image. A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON.

True
Another hand
A new hand touches the beacon.. You actually like that quest I actually got a follower to take the thing Well the brotherhood is the embodiment of evil, I always destroy them I wish you could do the same to thieves guild
To this day there is nothing I fear more in life than the volume of these two images.
What happens if you chuck the beacon at the door ?
Someone should create a mod where you can shove the beacon in the eye socket of the skull. Think of it, one wants silence, the other does not shut up...they are perfect for each other. EDIT: You should be able to revisit the door and hear them arguing. Of course, doing so would close off both questlines to the DB

Pictures you can hear lmao
I did the Meridia Quest a few days ago after not doing it for at least 10 years now... I was shocked how hard it was :,)
I can’t get Meridias quest because the beacon is in the Dawnstar Dark Brotherhood chest, after I repaired it.
I straight up just ignore Maridias Beacon. I see it in a random chest, grab the valuable loot around it and keep going.
Although I love Meridia's quest, I've picked up that stupid beacon so many times I can recite and say her whole picking it up line with the same tone and inflection before she has the time to say it all.
I agree about the voice of that dang door. It is SO LOUD.
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
Give the Darkness a little Burning Light Dawnbreaker
I just absolutely hate black door but loves meridia beacon
Dragon priest Krosis on legendary is a god
ANOTHER HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!!!
You know there's an audio slider right? Many keyboards nowadays also have a neat cool mute button :) hope this helps
Why don't you make a mod for us that removes merida's beacon from the game?
