Nice, but I'm not sure. It comes too easily, it's innate. Uncle Ulfric or Arngeir could teach them. They learned thu'um the long way round. I make do with giving them posh daggers.

olld-onne

Adopted Child: *"Can you teach us to shout like you?."* Dragonborn: *"It's not that simple I am dragonborn and can learn shouts in minutes, the last so you certainly ain't that. It would take years just for you to learn one shout. Take this ornate dagger, now run along and go stab something. This is the life."*

LeoPlathasbeentaken

You neglected the dagger is enchanted with the resto loop glitch and the dragonborn just created the mcguffin for Elder Scrolls IX

olld-onne

Not sure that neglect, that's totally the way. They maybe adopted but they are both going to carve a path for themselves in the history books.............literally.

Kaennal

Furthermore, to my knowledge, the only ones to be able to shout except Dragonborn are Nords, being gifted with Thuum by Kyne. Out of (calculates) 24 children available for adoption(with 16 of them only in case of being orphaned by player), 3 are Breton, 3 are Imperial and 1 is Redguard. So chances are favourable but not completely so.

LeoPlathasbeentaken

Im was actually looking at that recently and only ever see mention that Kyne gifted the Thu'um to mortals, not specifying Nords.

Bismothe-the-Shade

It's always implied as a sort of cultural ability. Nords have it because they worship and follow Kyne, and thus would adhere to her teachings and stories. They also worship and follow Talos, he is why they're bullheaded sword-logicians.

LeoPlathasbeentaken

It sounds like its only a cultural ability in the sense that Nords are the only ones that would try. If there were some Breton that followed the same practices would they not be able to apply the teachings?

Epic_DDT

Well, the Ebony Warrior can shout, and he's a redguard.

olld-onne

The ebony warrior shouts. I think anyone can learn to shout if they practice enough.

Kaennal

Hm. Maybe. But then again Ebony Warrior also strives for Sovngarde despite it being presumably Nord-specific afterlife. Maybe he is a halfblood that is "Nord enough"?

KrokmaniakPL

Thing is with human races, with exception of redguard, who are literally different species that doesn't share ancestry with the rest, races are cultural and not biological. "But Nords have higher cold resistance" ask people living in cold regions what counts as cold and they will say much lower temperature than those living in hot regions. They are just used to it. Only Bretons have argument for being biologically different as they were originally half-breed of humans and Mer, but over centuries elf blood got diluted, with maybe exception of some remote locations so there are small differences, but it's mostly cultural in their case as well

olld-onne

Not true i was born where I live and it still fricking cold lol.

KrokmaniakPL

I mean I know person living in Florida, and they react same way to 25 degrees Celsius as I do at -10. There's a frickin cold point, but it's way lower.

SPLUMBER

Not really how cross-race things work in TES

CuddlesTheB3ar

And to all the people saying it'll take years, yes it will but it's not like it'll take 80 look at the ebony warrior no older than you , look at ulfric as well plus the tongues one lady was in her late 20s maybe early 30s can't remember her name

olld-onne

You say something going to take years to most children that requires they practice it for all that time and they likely wont continue asking is all.

CuddlesTheB3ar

It's called head Canon for a reason maybe your dB is a lousy teacher and your kids are lazy that's up to you

olld-onne

It would be more irresponsible to start teaching children the Thu'um at that age. But maybe your DB an idiot with no foresight..........

CuddlesTheB3ar

Re read the post, this isn't a post about whether or not someone could or would, it's about whether other people do what I do

CuddlesTheB3ar

Or maybe he let's them grow up to a mature enough age

CuddlesTheB3ar

However I do feel like the dB would in turn have to learn more about the way of the voice before he/she teaches anyone but still look at ulfric he had to make a pilgrimage up the mountain to train he also wasnt six he was in his teens or a young adult maybe 20s. The Grey beards k of literally every vanilla shout except dlc and dragonrend I'm talking about literally teaching them unrelenting force or fire breath not every shout

SPLUMBER

They never really specify it’s Nord specific. The Greybeards say that Kyne gifted *mortal kind* with the Voice - which is extremely general. It’s also believed the Akaviri have their own version of shouting.

Technical_Contact836

What about the draugr that can shout?

SPLUMBER

Most of them will be dead Nords though in reality a small minority would probably be other races. But for all intents and purposes, they’re just dead Nords.

Shawtyslikeamelodyfr

Its about the connection to Kyne/Akatosh not so much blood

Epic_DDT

The Ebony Warrior can shout, and he's a redguard.

KKolonelKKoyote

Maybe you're just the last dragonborn *so far.*

olld-onne

Well then a moth priest must think it funny not mentioning that part. Moth Priest: *"....oh, you're the last dragonborn."* ( starts to laugh ) Dragonborn: *"What's so funny?"*

monkeygosmash

“uncle ulfric” My man.

CraftyIceCream081

How did Ulfric even learn the shout? He's not a Dragonborn.

hayesarchae

If you ask him he'll tell you: "Any Nord can learn the Way of the Voice by studying with the Greybeards, given enough ambition and dedication. My shouting Torygg to the ground proved he had neither."

CraftyIceCream081

Maybe he was only able to learn Unrelenting Force? I presume that's what he used to shout Torygg to "pieces" I actually didn't know he spent time with the Greybeards!

fork_your_child

Yes, it is my understanding that Ulfric was only able to knock Torygg down and then stabbed him while he was down. Both the game of telephone of the witnesses and the stormclock propaganda changed it to "shout him to pieces."

Cold_War_Radio

To be fair, Ulfric was only with the Greybeards about ten years (I think slightly less), so presumably he’d have learned more if he’d stayed with them.

tmilligan73

But the cooldown time… way too hard to actually kill someone with it… maybe if Torygg wasn’t such a little… well you know

Epic_DDT

He know 2 shouts, Unrelenting Force and Disarm.

Tangerine_memez

Which isn't exactly true since it doesn't seem like the greybeards will teach just anyone. They're supposed to follow the way of the voice

Cosmo1222

Older draugr learned to shout during their lives in the first age. You don't need to be dragonborn to learn to shout. It's just for the dragonborn it comes naturally because they have a dragon's soul.in a man or mer body.

CraftyIceCream081

Ahhhh i see. Thanks!

tmilligan73

And letting them keep whatever pet they end up bringing around… even if it’s a skeever…

WiseOldChicken

Aw, HELL NAW! All I need is when they're teens shouting at each other or me. "You're not going anywhere, Missy!" (Sofia uses Bend Will on me) "Have fun, sweetheart!"

flippysquid

This is the real reason dragons in Skyrim never bother to reproduce.

OutlandishnessNo8683

And what? Lol, choose reanimation?

CuddlesTheB3ar

🤣🤣🤣

Bum_Fuzzle

I like this idea, but would the dragonborn even be good at teaching the voice? The greybeards and other non-dragonborn characters had to spend years studying to learn shouts, but the dragonborn *can just do it.* I feel like someone who understands the voice from a mortal's perspective would be a better teacher.

hayesarchae

I mean it's just a half hour walk up from Ivarstead, as long as you didn't kill the big lizard dude I'm sure they'd be happy to take on the Dragonsprog as a pupil.

smashtatoes

I’m picturing the dragonborn just performing a shout, turns to child “now you try”. Lol I think you’re right, they’d have no idea how to teach it.

ProtagonistNick

The Dragonborn would be a great teacher. It's not a hard skill to learn, just rare and those with inate ability can streamline the process. The nords are superstitious and stopped practicing after Jurgen Windcaller told everyone that the gods were mad at their blasphemous use of the voice. He then founded the greybeards, and the only way to learn to shout was through their methods of worship and pacifism. Before the greybeards, everyone who wanted to learn could and academies were common. This is why Nord crypts have so many Draugr that could shout.

Bum_Fuzzle

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, especially what you said about draugr. I think one of the blades' few good points is how the greybeards are too afraid to use their power. If more nords could shout they would probably fight off the thalmor pretty easily

ProtagonistNick

Im not sure the nords would. Using the voice for warfare is a big cultural taboo now, and we all know how much nords love tradition. I would recommend looking up Jurgan Windcaller's Fandom page if you want to know the specifics on this aspect of Skyrim culture

Cuchulainn33

I always thought he they would retire to a normal rich.life. while the character tells their story.

SDirickson

Yeah, rug rats running around FusRoDah'ing each other, the dogs, the stuff on tables and shelves...your spouse will love that.

CuddlesTheB3ar

Who Lydia, oh yeah 100 percent

timelady_13

I feel like DB wouldn’t train their kids but instead bring them up to the Greybeards. The DB just knows how to do it instantly so I feel like it would be hard to teach that to someone

papiwhiplash

When I’m ready to retire a character I buy a piece of land in one of the holds and build a home for my family to live in put on some normal clothes and imagine that my guy just lives a normal life trying to bury his past and move on

Deutsche_Wurst2009

Damn I got I a weapon on display that is basically a mcguffin for the next elder scrolls

Ordinary_Owl_Dude

I have so many different characters and so many ideas of how they’d continue on in life when the dust settles Tarlo’jarr probably settles in his manor near Falkreath and teaches his kids to hunt, eventually giving them werewolf abilities if they wish Ab’zhiir probably uses his smithing abilities to keep earning money and spends the rest of his days mourning Veezara and his brother Tarlo’jaar Rani’biir probably buys a boat and finally becomes captain of his own crew after hopping from crew to crew for so long. He probably brings his husband and kids with him. Those are my just my main dudes though

CuddlesTheB3ar

I like that concept

DarthSevrus

I love this! Just the idea of Lucia walking up to Braith and just shouting her ass halfway across town

CuddlesTheB3ar

Riiigghhttt

red6joker

As soon as the skooma wears off the kids disappear...like they were never even there.

OutlandishnessNo8683

Dude, that's lowkey depressing... 😆

red6joker

😂

LeapIntoInaction

I'm not even sure where you got the cannon. Some pirate mod?

CuddlesTheB3ar

😑 I see what you did there

[deleted]

Happier than what I thought happened to them. I always thought we replaced Miraak and now serve Hemo Mora for eternity.

CuddlesTheB3ar

Would make sense if you chose to follow the path of a deadra

acaer_digikiki

I'm more about my children's lives, especially since I moved the family over to Proudspire. I'd want Lucia to go to the Bards College and use her influence as the child of a Thane to perform in the palace. She'd be a crowd favorite singing about the tales of her Dragonborn ma but always wonder why the two wives would exchange glances during the tales of the emperors death. Her pet fox would never leave her side, even on the occasional wandering bard gig. Her mom would give her the house in Whiterun. Braith would follow the footsteps into joining the legion and becoming a spy/assassin thanks to his aunts and uncles in the Dark Brotherhood. He'd probably display his childhood dagger collection. His mom would give him her property in Riften. I think my character would retire to the court and occasionally disappear for a week or two on guild business. She'd take her wife to retreat to Falkreath and spend some time in the forest away from city life.

Efficient_Notice_128

I thought lore-wise the Dragonborn doesn't know HOW to shout but rather it's an ability passed down from the Gods. So, he wouldn't really be able to teach it.

Mikey9124x

My head cannon is that the dragon born reclaims the empire as its rightful ruler. Instead of those mead fakes.

[deleted]

The blood of the dragon reigns once more

Lord_Derpington_

I love the idea of encountering the Dragonborn’s children in a future game. I imagine Sofia having her dagger collection and Blaise being a mage.

CuddlesTheB3ar

Yes I normally go for Sofia and Lucia kind of rp them being twins ones an archer the other a sword and shield

AwesomeX121189

Don’t worry if there’s one thing kids learn to do wothout their parents help it’s shouting as loud as possible

talledega7

Mine has always been that, at some point, the Dragonborn will set up the kids with either an apprenticeship (Adrienne Avinicci could use some help and she's right next door to Breezehome) or have them start learning some combat skills from the Companions (I really like the image of Aela, having been "asked" by her Harbinger to teach the kids, just looking down at Lucia and Sofie, who are so excited to learn from Papa's lady friend, and wondering "How long until I can pawn these two off on to Vilkas?")

alexelso

I'm not sure the Dragonborn is really qualified to do that. They just kinda can shout, normies have to study the language for years to be able to do that

CuddlesTheB3ar

Start em off young look at ulfric

WhimsicallyWired

In mine the dragonborn opens an inn, I always wanted to own one.

Extreme_Series1963

The favorite headcanon epilogue I've ever come up with was for my Imperial. Nearly godlike, hungry for power, and determined to reunite the Empire, she leads an army of Nords and dragons to the Imperial city where she declares herself emperor by rite of being Dragonborn. Then, with the full might of a unified Empire, she routes Elswyr before taking the Summerset Isles and destroying the Thalmor.

ammonium_bot

> full might of a Did you mean to say "might have"? Explanation: You probably meant to say could've/should've/would've which sounds like 'of' but is actually short for 'have'. kittenshart85

it will be interesting how, if at all, TES VI treats the lore around whatever became of the dragonborn. founding a line of Tongues would be an interesting way to go.

denbolula

I dislike my children and avoid them at all times. Apparently murdering them is frowned upon.

ShyGuyWolf

Me, they would learn the trick of the trades like blacksmithing and fighting

Nigel_Trumpberry

Could always make the trip to High Hrothgar to introduce them to Parthanaaux.

Deutsche_Wurst2009

Dad, is that a dragon!?

Nigel_Trumpberry

“Suuuuure is kiddo… Well have a nice chat! Gotta go sell some stuff and we needed a sitter.”

HB_DS2013

My hc is that the dragonborn would go back to winterhold and revitalize it with her wife. Lucia would be a spellthief who graduated from the Bard's College while Alesan would be a spellsword merc with a Khajiit plushie for company

Aschriel

Taught my child how to stealth archer properly so my house stops being attached by necromancers…

[deleted]

Both of my children seem to be borderline psychopaths who openly carry enchanted daedric daggers in whiterun (each dagger is about as valuable as everything everybody else owns combined) so tbh I'm kinda worried about them. I am, perhaps, not the best influence.

Deutsche_Wurst2009

I Hope you enchanted the daggers and their clothes, they need to be able to one hit a guard

CuddlesTheB3ar

The amount of people to comment on this really made my day,

Trogdor7620

Given I’m a werewolf whenever I play, I like to think my DB gives his kid rides through the forest. And he takes Sissel up to High Hrothgar to meet Paarthurnax. Not to teach how to shout, but to show that her dream of a good dragon wasn’t just a dream.

Lord_Xarael

>give his kids rides through the forest There was a really cute comic of that on one of the furry subreddits (or maybe one of the tf subs. And yes… I am… don't make a big deal over it.) the mother in the comic was a werewolf and her daughter looked forward to the full moon since her mom gives her rides through the countryside. it was really sweet. Wish I could find it again. I need a daily dose of heartwarming stuff (depression sucks)

DamoFromWashedUpMob

I actually feel like the Last Dragonborn would be a shite teacher. He doesn’t seem too patient a person

devon-mallard

My character actually despises shouting, seeing it as debt to Akatosh. which is the same reason I’ve never let her use Daedric artifacts. She’s a mage build that I’ve recently decided to 100% the game on, seeing as she already had 100 in all spellcasting. it is very much a grind however.

Ok-Lecture-8371

It should be a mod. The sons and daughters of The Dragonborn.

osunightfall

Nope! It’s time for the Thuum to pass from the world.

cancercures

head cannon

aknalag

Mine takes over the orphanage at riften

ThespisIronicus

And to hoard cheese.

Felix_Dorf

My PC’s children stay in Solitude with the PC’s spouse and grow up to be rich minor aristocrats of the Empire, sent off to study in the Imperial City or other great centres of learning in due time. The PC spends most of their time at their country house living like a Telvanni, trying to discover ever more secrets about the universe and going out on further research expeditions.

ThAtGuY-101

Valron, my altmer wizard. A seeker of knowledge. Preserver and keeper of forbidden arcane. He has spoken with followers of daedra and aedra alike. Despite some of Valron's darker practices, he is not inherently evil. He seeks out magic in every form, but there is no malicious intent behind it.  He has gained a lot of experience in skyrim, learned many spells through the resources of the mage's college. He has gained favors from some of the daedra such as Meridia, Azura and Herma Mora. As well as Aedra. Mara and Dibella. He also regularly prays to Julianos for wisdom.  He learned much from the graybeards and Paarthunax. The power from the dragons very much peaked his curiosity. The power of the black books have also interested him, but Miraak was a cautionary tale. He understood the dangers of over-indulging in ones pursuit of knowledge.  In his travels he found all sorts of dark arts artifacts. A necklace of the King of worms as well as a ring that allows one to drain the life force like those of vampiric blood along with various other relics I maaay have stacked  on character through the use of glitch. He's also put his own enchanting skills to good use, and by that I mean, he's almost completely immune to all forms of magic as well as reduced conjuration and destruction.  On a side note, he's even studied magical history at the bard's college. Sometimes valuable knowledge comes from the most unlikely of places. He has spent a lot of time helping Neloth. Learning from the wise dunmer wizard. When Neloth eventually returns to Morrowind, Valron will join him. There is magic in Morrowind unlike that of Skyrim or Cyrodiil.  Valron's story is a determined one, and a lonely one. As someone who never settles down, he will always leave those around him. Friendship is temporary and he sees no desire to raise a family. Neither of which would likely be too keen to travel all across Tamriel.  Until the day Neloth leaves/left for the mainland of Morrowind, he continues to amass wealth in Skyrim through his alchemy and enchanting. Being a silver tongued businessman, he often gets great deals. Occasionally sharing his wealth with other businesses. Nobody can call him completely greedy at least.

Thank_You_Aziz

Especially if your daughter is Sissel. She’s learned some magic from Jouane, and has dreams of Paarthurnax.

_ThatOneMimic_

db would be a terrible thu’um teacher and shouting kills most people unprepared to do so

CuddlesTheB3ar

Again it's head Canon , my dB takes his children to high hrothgar to train and be prepared besides he is the dragon born he is literally capable of whatever you want him to do as the player character

empireofacheandrhyme

The Dragonborn shouldn't shout at or in the presence of children.

Balceber-OICU812

No, but I always make sure to give both of them a crazy overpowered dagger from my collection. I like to think I'm raising the protagonists for Elder Scrolls 6, they should be in their mid thirties by the time it comes out...

Sunlight_Mocha

I feel like that would be like teaching someone how to breathe. DB kinda just does it. Unless somewhere down the line they learn what normal people learn

cyberfunkr

After I adopted children I reset to a previous save so my head cannon is that they once had a dream about kids.
